Are we allowed to post instructions up? Such as on rebrickable?

After the contest you can do whatever you like with the MOCs you build for your entries.

And there's no rule against posting instructions during the contest either - but why would you want to give your competitors the advantage of observing your techniques, which they could then use themselves in their contest entries?

So, is it one entry per category for everyone or can we enter more than that? I know it‘s unlikely, but it‘s one of those obligatory questions for contests :pir-sweet:

You can submit as many entries as you like, in one category, or both.

Just so long as each entry has its own topic.

I'm already planning a build, but it's not a ship!

Oh... this is good to know because I consider entering this with a ship (if I manage to find time build one) we will find out soon enough :pir-triumph:

Official LEGO sets have a more limited part count than MOCs and the onus is to convince everyone your creation is an official set

Imperial flagship is 1.6k and POBB are 2.5k... I estimate my 'contest' ship to be in the neighbourhood of 2k pieces. However, If I go overboard, I can always loose the tiles on decks to make it more LEGO stingy classic looking. :pir-grin:

I need a little help here @Mister Phes. Is there a part-limit in this first builders category, say 3000 like on LEGO Ideas, or this is simply a guideline for designers not go too big?

Doesn't mean I won't end up building one. I have a solid idea for a non ship build, and some partial ideas for ships.

Hello all, this is my first post and I am excited to join your community.

I am wondering if I can use a set that has been remade in the specified timeframe? I want to remake shipwreck island (6296) I think it came out in ‘96. But it look like it may have been a remake of shipwreck island 6260 (1989)? I would really like to use the ‘96 version as it is one of the few pirates sets I actually owned as a kid, but I understand if that isn’t an option. Thank you!

Yes, you can remake any official LEGO Pirate set.

6260 and 6292 are quite different to each other anyway.

That's actually a great choice - I've seen very few MOC remakes based of this set. :pir-thumb:

Well I've been working on something ever since, it's not quite good looking but I'm sure the other mateys on this forum can help with it!

Oh, I'm flattered that my Cross Bone Clipper has been featured as an example :pir_laugh2:.

Now to think of a different set to remake...

Another question has come to mind which I don't think will be an issue but wanted to clarify:

In addition to custom decals, are we allowed to use bricks in colours that were never actually produced but which realistically could have been produced? For instance, I have my eye on using 30156 in white. In reality it was only available unprinted in dark grey and tan, but I don't see any reason why Lego wouldn't have made it in white had a set at the time required it.

I specifically included it because remakes tend to be larger than the original set, but in this case, your remake was a downsizing.

Yes, that's fine

Would like to warm up for the commenting part of the contest!

I must admit that Pirates is probably my next favorite LEGO theme to Star Wars, but I really don't lurk much around here for this part of the forum is too focused on the classic style. The inspirational threads are not that inspirational to me, since it seems that some of the creations have been stuck in the previous century. I would really prefer to see some high quality modern MOCs using all the advanced parts, techniques (even the 'illegal' ones) and licensed minifigure parts. Also I guess that the 'Build a classic set styled creation' rule is too vague and usually people taking more risk tend to have more chances for their creations being far more appealing. Anyway, just my $0.5 and looking forward for a more modernized competition around here in the future. Which does not mean I will not try to squeeze in an entry!

Also, guess using fleshy heads in recreations is not an option? Asking for a friend, who happened to get rid of all his yellow figures - what a dumb thing to do (;

So what was the consensus on

Quote

The creation can be any existing LEGO Pirate set except for 6276 Eldorado Fortress and the 6285/10040 Black Seas Barracuda because they've been remade (but feel free to appeal that in this topic).

???

Check out the BoBS mocs for modern pirate kit ideas. There are some truely tremendous builders in there.

Hi there! I've been working on my build for this contest, but it's far from ready. Is it worth posting progress pics?

I've got two entries now built, waiting on Bricklink orders to show up to finish them. Now working on a third. So exciting!

I've been reading the rules, but I just wanted to clarify something. Is there a separate prize for each category (remakes versus classic-style sets), or is it one prize for both? I notice most of the entries so far are modern remakes, and I was wondering if it would be difficult for people to vote when considering two potentially very different styles of building.

How will the voting be done? Will there be a thread showing all entries with a picture? Because there will be many many entries and it will be very complicated to keep an overview as a spectator :pir_laugh2:
