If your team can distribute the prize equally that should be fine. But it should be noted the contest is not aiming for extremely large entries as the objective is to design or redesign in the style of official LEGO sets. Quote

Alexandrina Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 Just a quick clarification before I devote any actual time thinking of what to make for my entry: Option 1 is to design a new classic-style set. Does this strictly have to be a set that could have existed during the original Pirates run (1989-97) or would it be acceptable to do an entry based on an imagined 1998 or 1999 wave? There's an idea poking around in my mind but I don't want to spend too long thinking about it if it's going to fall foul of the rules. Quote
Dreamweb Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 (edited) Well, the rules do say this: On 6/17/2023 at 8:13 AM, Mister Phes said: What does "Classic-Style" mean? It implies a design heavily inspired by official LEGO Pirate sets, released 1989-1997, 2009-10, 2015 or 2022 Barracuda Bay. So I think an imaginary 1998 set would fit quite well. I am considering participating in the contest myself. Not sure I will be able to find the time right now though. Edited June 20, 2023 by Dreamweb Quote

If your entry is congruent with the design precedent of the LEGO Pirates theme and the parts available during 1998-99 that could work quite well. 27 minutes ago, Dreamweb said: I am considering participating in the contest myself. Thomas Waagenaar Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 That sounds like a fun contest! I sadly won't be participating, but I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Good luck, and mostly, have fun with building everyone! ^^ Quote

Asking because there may be other opportunities to win prizes... The following is just my personal opinion. I don't like the concept of contests in my hobbies (Unless it is for some RPG and you can not win physical stuff) I like cooperation and dislike competition. When there are winners, there must be loosers. And usually some people show up at Lego contests, often grab the prizes, and you will never see them again and they never comment on other people's mocs or engage in the community. That is not my kind of hobby Quote

CDKiii Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 For the 1st option, is it possible to use parts which came out after 2015? Or do we have to stay with old parts ? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 21, 2023 Author Governor Posted June 21, 2023 1 hour ago, CDKiii said: For the 1st option, is it possible to use parts which came out after 2015? Yes, you can use parts which became available after 2015 - the FAQ specifically mentions you may build Barracuda Bay style, which was released in 2020. There's no real restriction over the parts, just so long as the overall creation looks as though it could be an official LEGO Pirate set. For example: you might be able to incorporate a Bioncle part or two into your design, but if half your MOC is built from Bionicle, then it's not to resemble the classic-style we're aiming to achieve. Eggyslav Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 What about mixing parts that were avaible back in 1989, and 2009/2015? Quote

I've been busy with other hobbies as well as a bit of a creative block the last few months sadly :( Maybe I'll find the opportunity to join in, but that's not very likely! Either way, it's nothing to do with Lego in and of itself, just doing other stuff as I recently got into airsoft thanks to a friend! :P Quote

Sure, you can combine parts from any era. What matters most is whether you can mix parts and make the design look cohesive. 3 hours ago, Thomas Waagenaar said: Maybe I'll find the opportunity to join in, but that's not very likely! My reasons for (probably) not participating, but observing: - two kids, one being three months old - space to build - experience with MOC's On 6/21/2023 at 2:54 PM, Mister Phes said: That's fair reasoning... but we have a very effective solution to newcomers commenting on other people's MOCs.
