These sets are new interpretations of the original stuff using newer pieces and techniques as they come along and different minifigure designs, they're not supposed to be ''the original set but better''.

yeah certainly, but at the very least it would be nice if they weren't worse: if they're supposed to be modernized forms they could at least build off of what came before. the x1 charger is iconic despite its scene being one of the most blatant commercialist displays in the show (which fortunately doesn't happen often), and virtually a masterpiece in the original rebooted lineup; this new one is a model that doesn't have the angles or style or bravado of the original and ultimately will disappear from your mind as soon as your eyes leave it.

like, take the titan mech: that's a clear upgrade from the original, a mech that was largely composed of the conventional brick-on-brick build and lacked the visual splendour of, say, the original fire mech or earth mech at the same scale. the boulder blaster pulls from an impeccable set that functions well as a lego nerf gun and adds details like landing gear and the noodle machine decoy and spices the colors up with sand green and orange. the earth driller and lightning jet from legacy wave 1, back when the subtheme looked to have more potential than old ninja vehicles with different interpretations, turn relatively shabby models into larger, more show accurate vehicles with more flair and greebling than the originals had.

besides that, certainly part of the point is to get more accurate vehicles and characters with hindsight: there's no giant stone warrior to reference in the lego sets, yet we got one with the earth driller; the ultra dragon in the sets was a mess of green and grey and brown, but in legacy form it's a wonderful white and tan with hints of grey. the ninjago design team can absolutely create legacy models with the original sets as a good benchmark of what to improve or what aspects to model after, but with this wave and especially as a 10th anniversary wave it feels like lego's skimping on the figures that are actually theme-related, and notably in tournament (condrai cultists, clouse and chen, jade blades which i can kinda get) for a guy in a turban, a guy in an afro and a guy with a beard (and they're cool and i get it but i can't imagine they pulled too much out of the budget to design).

so yeah, for 10th anniversary i think they're nice but relatively disappointing for a winter wave: even one legacy location would've been neat; frankly, im just glad i can save 8 dollars by buying the 2014 x1 charger for $8 less than the new one's msrp

Some of these are really cool! I'm certainly not the target audience for Legacy, as I've been following the theme since 2011, but I do try to collect the minifigures when I can. It is disappointing that Legacy 2 Nya and Zane still haven't shown up yet. For how Zane-centric Rebooted was, it's surprising that there have been no Legacy Rebooted sets featuring him. Hopefully the summer wave will fix this. I'm also surprised by the lack of gold Zane. I could understand if they only did the four original ninja, but having Lloyd and not Zane doesn't make sense to me. Is there any possibility he appears in the 4+ set?

I'm also curious about the ninja designs in the battle sets. As far as I can tell, they're all very different and not based on anything from the show. They kind of feel like worse avatar suits. I think it would have been a better move to include variants of each ninja from the history of the show (e.g. blacksmith Kai or dancer Cole). Maybe these suits will feature in the next season?

On a more positive note, the fact that we're getting 3 new elemental masters in one set is fantastic! Now we're only missing one. A lot of these sets look great and I'm very excited for them. Looking forward to seeing the rest!

I agree with the other people here on the X-1 Changer. I thought the original set looked cool, but this new Legacy one looks awful... a huge downgrade from the OG set IMO.

Zane's Titan Mech looks like a good Mech set. It's nice to finally get a modern Mech set that has knees. The large shuriken piece recolored in silver is also nice. But it's a little disappointing that we only got Zane's Mech and not the posessed Samurai X Mech, which was the highlight of the OG set.

Those 10$ Battle sets are kind of lame to be honest. Outside of the exclusive Ninja variants, there isn't anything interesting about them.

The Boulder Blaster is pretty standard... Just the original set but with a few little modifications.

The Tournament of Elements Legacy set has some nice exclusive Elemental Masters which we haven't gotten in minifigure form before, but the build itself is pretty lackluster.

Overall, a pretty disappointing wave. The only set I like is Zane's Titan Mech, the rest are pretty meh. Outside of the new minifigures, there isn't much of interest to me in this wave. I am so sick of all those Legacy remakes of the Ninja vehicles (which IMO are the least interesting part about the Ninjago theme). We need either more location-based Legacy sets, like a remake of the Temple of Fire or the Temple of Light, or at least some Legacy remakes of the Villain vehicles (which I always found more interesting than the Ninja vehicles, personally).

So yeah, the Legacy sets have been pretty disappointing, but let's hope the S14 story sets are going to make up for that.

I feel like this advice applies to LEGO as a company overall, not just Ninjago or Legacy. Especially in the last few years they've really been focusing on vehicles, most of them repeats of past products with next to no innovation (which is pretty sad for a company centered around creativity ). I've personally always preferred location/scenery sets over vehicles so it's disappointing to see LEGO go down this route.

luckily, the biggest season 14 set is a villain structure, so yippeeeeeee!!!!1

Pretty sure the island is the only structure for S14 and that the biggest set are those catamarans :sceptic:

Kind of a serious question: with the passing of Kirby Morrow would you guys prefer Cole to be organically removed from the story or replaced with a different actor? I know this is very different than a normal tv show as the LEGO products are a big part of the franchise as well and it's unlikely for LEGO to take out on of the ninja but I'm really curious what you guys think.

honestly, I think the next season should have Cole in for the first few episodes, with Coles voice being taken from other recordings from thru out the show, and then have him die mid way through. I definitely wouldn't want him to be replaced. this would give a dark turn to the season, and I think it would be the perfect ending for the ninjago tv show as a whole. I would say that are probebly putting the final touches to the last season as we speak. it would also give closure to the fans as a whole bc Coles death has been implied throughout the series. RIP Kirby morrow.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next season has already been recorded and Kirby’s voice is able to be used that entire season. I think they often record lines well in advance for shows like this. Personally, I’d either like them to replace Kirby with a new voice actor or, if they choose to remove Cole from the story, find a way to work a new master of earth into the team.

They started working on the 2022 storyline a few months ago. Season 14 is probably just about done by now. Season 15's script might be written, too, if it'll be done by summer.

On the topic of who could be a suitable replacement for Kirby Morrow, I would suggest the guy who voiced Morro (the villian) in season 5. He is the only person I can think of that sounds remotely similar to Kirby's voice.

New VA

They won't kill him, because removing 1 ninja will mess up plans for upcoming waves of sets. They probably already have mapped out the show/ LEGO sets for the next 3 years or so

And having him being a silent characters would be too weird

just curious, how would you all rate the legacy sets we have seen so far, from worst 2 best. mine would be:

x-1, epic battle jay, epic battle Cole, epic battle kai, epic battle zane, Coles boulder blaster, ToE set, and Zanes titan mech. I think the x-1 is crap, looks absolutely nothing like it did in the show, battle sets are cool, but the other sets are cooler, the boulder blasters fine, great for £35, ToE is a must buy, and Zanes titan mech just looks amazing. it is actually a terrible legacy set, but its an amazing normal lego set. 3-4 exclusive figs, an sick mech with knees (yes, you heard me right, knees!). its only missing waist articulation, and a blade on the right arm. all for £65, its just2good! (if you get that reference....). what about you?

ive also seen some speculation that the gardens set could be being pushed back until a spring or even summer release, I dont think this could happen. from what ive heard, its gonna be a lego exclusive release on jan 1st, then it will become wide released on march the first, and the overlord dragon and the season 14 stuff will also be march 1st. I dont think it will be a march 1st  or summer release due to ninjagos anniversary on the 14th of jan, and if it does lego will certainly have riots on their hands.... now, if it has been delayed by Covid but there's the opportunity that they can get it out before the 14th, I think they will try. this means that it could be rushed for release for the anniversary, and when people rush, they make mistakes. this means that we could see it earlier than expected, or we will see it around Christmas. unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure. im really hoping that this is a jan first release, bc if it isn't my Christmas is ruined. im working on a backup play to try and get Ninjago City, 70620 instead but its soooo expensive now. anyone got any tips or sites where I could pick up Ninjago City for £100 or less of its retail price? some lucky guy managed to snag Ninjago City docks before I could bid for only £220, less than retail value. whoever you are, I envy you..... have fun building!

There have been no delays caused directly by the virus, just some sets getting delayed because they're based on a now delayed movie. There was ofc that period where the US wasn't getting the new waves concurrently with the rest of the world because of the factories in Mexico closing down but afaik that issue has now largely been resolved and it didn't affect the releases on other markets. I highly doubt they'll delay the set.

I'm also not really sure what you mean by ''lego will certainly have riots on their hands''. As far as LEGO is concerned we have no knowledge of this set, they neither have a moral nor legal obligation to inform of us of any delays or changes so if something does happen people are just gonna have to suck it up and go on with their day

Anyway, I highly doubt any of these proposed scenarios will happen. Just expect it to release as planned.

Ironically we did have kind of a Legacy wave with the season with Sensei Yang as villain. So many sets have been remade to this point.

Some they could still do:
- Proper Samurai X remake
- Fire Temple
- Zane Ninja-jet thingy from S3.

The latter one could be the dessert of all the jet remakes.

Im just sorry we dont get much in terms of Nya legacy suits or builds. She really deserves a proper dragon and a jet of her own. In the show she always has quite a big role and the vehicles arent even advertised. I think in the last seasons they get broken after like 1-2 uses. I wonder if this is intentional :pir-grin:
I think except for the Bounty, the most advertised set was the Oni Titan. It appeared really often and was presented as immensely powerful.

Anyway for Nya they should still do her old civilian outfit again

We still need Camille, master of Form. She'll probably be in an accessory pack. Super excited to see these 3 new ones.

On a similar note, Golden Zane and Nya have been confirmed. Probably in the Legacy Overlord Dragon and the Legacy 4+ Lightning Mech set respectively.

I don't absolutely love this Legacy wave, but I committed to buying every Legacy set and it's OG counterpart, plus I'm only a few figs short of every Ninjago fig. So, I can't really skip out. That being said, I do like the Bolder Blaster quite a bit.

The $10 sets are the biggest disappointment personally. The transparent weapons are weird and the suit choices/background sets are questionable.

I'm looking forward to what the Overlord Dragon and the Ninjago City Garden sets bring to the table.

I assume you mean the ninja. Pic on Instagram. Pic from the back of the box shows a "Collect all six Golden Ninja" table.

We just see Kai on the table with 5 other silhouette figs.

Fig placement is merely speculation based on sets we havent seen.

I gotta say, I love Zane's Titan Mech! It's on par with Lloyd's Titan mech in terms of detail and I'm really happy it has knees. I know a lot of people are sick of mechs but if they can keep making them at this scale and quality I'll be very happy. I'm also a big Gundam fan and these 2 mechs really feel like Gundam homages in a number of ways and I love it. Heck, just the fact that Zane's has skirt armor on ball joints that can accommodate leg articulation makes me happy because I build a lot of gunpla and that's almost always how it's done on Gundam kits. Honestly getting one mech that looks this good and is this big is worth them leaving out the ghost mech. I always liked Zane's better anyway but I wouldn't say no if they remake the ghost mech later down the line too.
