I am glad they didn´t as that would require the legs to be formed like a bar, which makes the mould look weird with not really much of an advantage on the other side. I mean you can basically display everything with the Phoenix placed on the hand rather than the hand around fawkes legs. Quote
InfiniteUniverse Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) Am I the only one questioning why the bathroom doesn’t have a door of sorts? Like, the other side being open makes complete sense, but there being no divide between the bathroom and the rest of the middle section sorta irks me. Edited May 2 by InfiniteUniverse Quote
brickbride Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) I might be the only one here who's very underwhelmed with the East Wing's interior. Such a big, expensive set, and that's all they could cram in there? The Slytherin Common Room and the Library are probably the best part (and the latter only because I really like the shape of the room, the antistud ceiling still looks bad though). But other than that? They did the bathroom better in the 2021 system and most of the rest is just corridors. The 2021 system managed to cram a pretty good Lockhart's Office into the space where Lockhart now stands in the pics! (And I said from the beginning that the place where Filch now stands would not be Lockhart's DADA class due to the lack of tables. I got shouted down.) The Chamber of Secrets is the most pathetic version ever, again they cribbed the good parts (the Salazar head and the two Ninjago snakes) from the 2021 system, but the entire thing just looks underwhelming. There is nothing whatsoever going on in the roof area, I would at the very least have expected them to use the two larger turrets for Astronomy (since they've been cribbing everything else from the 2021 system) and possibly Divination. Bottom line: They're clearly marketing this thing to the completionists and minifig (and patronus) collectors, but very little effort seems to have gone into the design. And that's really a criticism of the entire new modular system going right back to the Great Hall which also just looks empty and underdesigned apart from the fig selection. I'll be so glad when this new system is over. Hopefully they'll go back to smaller sets and hopefully those will at least look somewhat worth the price. 13 hours ago, RODDY said: Personally think the most likely scenario is that we get an Umbridge’s Office as the GWP this year with the Ministry of Magic and maybe a Divination Classroom standalone set in January to finish up the classrooms and help bridge the gap between this system and the next. I'm expecting Umbridge to be in the Ministry set, she's one of the charactes who are the most associated with the Ministry. Divination on its own would be a pretty boring classroom set (the Moments book is mostly stickers of teacups) with the Parvati and Trelawney minifigs being the only draw. So sure, we might get it (since lack of design and attracting minifig collectors are LEGO's current go-tos). Edited May 2 by brickbride Quote

So sure, we might get it (since lack of design and attracting minifig collectors are LEGO's current go-tos). Don’t forget my main man Bem, you want to talk minifigure draw now that’s a draw. He’s the last student I really care for we that we haven’t got yet and he’s most prominent in Divination explaining the Grim. I would say I’d buy it Day 1 for Bem but it’d buy it Day 1 regardless, I think Divination would be nice $20 set and god knows I like a mini heater. As for Umbridge, if this is truly an Order of The Phoenix take on the set, I honestly hope they exclude her. The minifig lineup is gonna be tight given the sheer number of Death Eaters, Dumbledore’s Army, and Order Of the Phoenix members that show up at the Battle and all of them should take precedent over Umbridge who just makes a blink and you’ll miss it appearance at the Court Hearing. The GWP allows her to be a good bonus figure as she’s not essential to the Ministry at least in Order of The Phoenix imo. And given Lego’s recent trend of GWPs being connected passageway areas like Room of Requirements/Hogsmeade and Burrow/Borgin & Burkes, an Umbridge’s Office would fall right in line with the Floo Network connection to the Ministry. It looks severly unfinished like most of the line. I will replace the stickers with custom prints. That's why I didn't place any of them on all of the sets... especially the not so great hall just looks pathetic purely buildwise. Even the Minifigs in this set are just ok-ish in most cases. Myrtle again having plain legs is a disgrace. The only reason I thknk about getting this set is through a buddy working at a lego store with 40% as a foundation of a moc. Quote

Now, the Eastwing does have its problems, and admittedly has less room than I would like for the price (even though I enjoy it overall), but let's not make the 2021 system out to be some masterpiece. The Salazar head in the previous Chamber was ridiculous. The 2021 Bathroom admittedly was a lot better, though. Wish this version had a better stall. 2 minutes ago, Roebuck said: https://brickset.com/article/131537/summer-lego-harry-potter-sets-revealed! Is this the same Snape from the past couple years? brickbride Posted May 2 Posted May 2 (edited) 6 hours ago, Legofan04 said: but let's not make the 2021 system out to be some masterpiece. I never said it was. In fact I called the Chamber overpriced when it came out, and have criticized sets like the Fluffy Encounter and Sirius Black's Escape for their poor design. But those two (along with the office part of Dumbledore's Office) were the low points of the system. All the things I've mentioned in my post were much better done in the 2021 system and specifically the Chamber of Secrets and Polyjuice Potion Mistake sets (yes, the Salazar statue, too), and again, at a significantly lower price point than we have here. Are the two corridors next to the bathroom able to house slide-out modules? If so maybe that's the point, but it looks ugly and unfinished. The East Wing is supposedly busy and full of classrooms, and we haven't even gotten one. Edited May 2 by brickbride Quote

JS038 Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I was hoping that once the sets were on Lego.com that we would see some lifestyle marketing images of the east wing combine with the other castle sets. That has been the fast with all previous large castle expansions. From what I am seeing, there does not appear to be any images showing the castles combine beyond the one we keep seeing. Quote

Mom builds lego Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I love the East Wing and Dumbledore’s Office but man they are pricey! In Canada it’s 379.99 for the East Wing and 179.99 for Dumbledore’s Office. Hopefully I find a sale eventually - I’ve been holding out for a deal on the Main Tower but I’ll soon have to bite the bullet before it goes EOL. Quote

The Bathroom was an own module (and set) back then so it beeing better doesn´t really surprise me. They could have fleshed it more out, but for that they would have made the whole build wider to have more space inside, which would have just further increased the price though. 9 hours ago, brickbride said: The 2021 system managed to cram a pretty good Lockhart's Office into the space where Lockhart now stands in the pics! (And I said from the beginning that the place where Filch now stands would not be Lockhart's DADA class due to the lack of tables. I got shouted down.) Lockharts Office was a full module in the last version whereas now he stands in the entrance, which would be what a half module was back then - not to mention that it is the entrance and to me it just wouldn´t make sense to place any room in there as you need space to open the doors and let the minifigure move through them and all. 9 hours ago, brickbride said: The Chamber of Secrets is the most pathetic version ever, again they cribbed the good parts (the Salazar head and the two Ninjago snakes) from the 2021 system, but the entire thing just looks underwhelming. The 2018 version consisted ouf of harry, fawkes and the basilisk, and basically you just had to play the secene on the floor and not sure what was better on the last version really. I mean you could argue whether the ecexution in the new version or the last one was more for your personal taste, but overall they are not really different. You got Harry, Ginny, Lockhart, Riddle, the Gryffindor Sword, Diary and Sorting Hat, Salazars Head, the Basilisk, two Snake heads and the slide in both versions and I see nothing the old version had which the new one doesn´t have, while the existing one includes Myrtle, Ron (which you would get easily elsewhere) and most importantly fawkes and you can actually let the Snake come out of Slytherins mouth. Again, the overall design is sure up for everyones own taste, but I don´t see what would make it "the most pathetic version ever" 9 hours ago, brickbride said: There is nothing whatsoever going on in the roof area, I would at the very least have expected them to use the two larger turrets for Astronomy (since they've been cribbing everything else from the 2021 system) and possibly Divination. I´d actually say the main appeal of this system is the exteriror Design. The only other versions that came even close to that would be the 2018 Hogwarts Castle and the Castle and Grounds Sets, while both previous Systems really weren´t that great if you wanted to Display a Castle. 7 hours ago, Legofan04 said: The 2021 system was mostly just corridors (such as in the Fluffly set, Sirus escape tower, and final battle), and not just that, but the floors were mostly grated, with very little room to actually place figures. Especially when you compare it with the Main Tower Set is really looks small. The main tower is just way more impressive with its size, compared to the new Sets where many parts are used to build the viaduct bridge, which does make it look great. In the end I can understand that they didn´t want to make the east wing even bigger and with that more expensive and I would expect them to have build it about in size compared to the other castle sections.
