And they gave him no print on his hoves, so he is inferior xD https://www.stonewars.de/news/lego-icons-mayor-manor-11383/ What do you guys think about the medium nougat cat? Crookshanks material?
-
I highly doubt the Astronomy tower would match the required scale to fit the current system, if the new one is classic play scale. I think the most we can not really "expect" but at least not rule out is finally a propper crookshanks and maybe a new lesser known teacher.
-
I never understood why people expected the clock tower. It would be on the backside of the main tower with a completely open inside left and right from it, if it was connected in the right place. The fact we didn't get the astronomy tower is really dissapointong. It is desperately missing in the silhouette. Skipping it while giving us 2 non-connected sets and the poorly done hospital wing that doesn't add to the silhouette at all is such a stupid decision.
-
So... time to moc the Astronomy tower then xD
-
3 (owlery, flying lesson greenhouses)... to be honest i really don't get what they were thinking giving us unconnectable (not just unconnected) stuff in a modular system again while skipping the Astronomy tower :/ that being said I am looking forward finishing my last lego project (rebuildimg the (not so ) great hall, fixing the connection to the main tower, mocing a bunch of Insert rooms, adding the astronomy tower and an underground section for the green house.... and of course replacing every sticker by custom prints. The only thing I want at this point from Lego is a solid Crookshanks.
-
I really don't get why lego is again and again releasing non-integrated sets into their modular lines. They could have at least skipped the flying lesson and instead given us something like the hospital wing nonnectable to the east wing to complete the siluette. Then there would really just be the astronomy tower missing.
-
Another question: do you guys use custom prints and pieces? I like Brickwarrior's wizard sleeves upgrade for robes and got a bunch of different printed potions for example.
-
You were misunderstanding. I said as an adult collector I am also fine with certain things being a huge downgrade because I have the superior things already and get a few new things like a more accurate Mrs. Norris. I just think it sucks for the newcomers to get an ugly face print instead of the old moulded headgear. Leaving out the core characters was a exaggeration of the point "I own the good old one. I'm fine". Of course they have to be included, because not everyone already has a dozen of Harries...
-
Me too, but to be honest i'dd be fine with them not including Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid and Dumbledore in the whole system owning superior versions already. For new buyers it is pretty bad in my opinion.
-
Well, to be fair the faceprint looks severly inferior and her cat head was a headgear piece. They could have easily given her both with pretty much all car sets I ever had came with a driver's helmet and hairpiece. Glad I'm owning the old version.

I have to say I am happy to have all the House Ghosts and even 2 unexpected teachers now. Additions like printed arms for McGonnagal and Snape are neat. I can moc the Astronomy tower myself using Sinistra from the last castle and upgrade all of the interiors besides the allready 100% perfect portions classroom.... The only 2 official things desperately missing by now in my opinion are Crookshanks and printed medium legs for Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Guess it's time for my next custom printing project... If they are casting a cat at least somewhat similar to the books there might be a slight chance we get it with the series sets.

I think the largest issue for Superheroes is the lego batman movie and the treatment of it's moulds. They were pretty much all great interpretations by Lego. Poison Ivy is one of the most gorgeous minifigs ever done. Twoface's boxershorts visible through a hole in his molten pants are hilarious. Their later versions were all severe downgrades with standard hairpiece for poison ivy and so on. Catwoman is as far as I know the only character that reused the perfect cowl mould (which made her the perfect arkham city catwoman). The few new moulds were often wasted like the ugly new hairpiece of the Twoface in red jacket or completely useless new bat-cowl-moulds. HP canibalises on other themes budget like Hermiones Hair in the cmf sleepy girl or lupins Wolf in a cmf. It gives us rarely something specific like the hat of mcgonnagal, but if they do, they keep those moulds llng term instead of just devolving.
-
On top of that I am sure we would never have gotten Kettleburn and Vector in one set. They are both the kind of character, that catches hardcore fans/collectors but does pretty much nothing for the average comsumer besides "oh, no idea who that is but the torso print is neat"... If there wasn't Kettleburn the minifig selection of the main tower would have been very weak for collectors.

I want a little history classroom-set woth the playfeature of students leaning more and more forward until they are sleeping on the desk xD
-
I doubt anyone knew before the last chamber set that the black lady was professor Sinistra when the box art told us the name. 99,9% of people have probably never heared of Professor vector being the witch with the red hat mentioned only in the lego videogame once. I do not see any issue for Lego choosing the most interesting looking background wizard asking Rowling for a name... I will have all the Teachers in their classrooms, so I'll gladly take any new staff member for the teachers table in the great hall.

I am a bit confused. I meant the statue should be a few studs wider not deeper in the room. Of yourse it's a matter of taste. I like cartoony and think it still feels very lego-like. There is a reason pretty much all large buildable figures of a certain scale include stickers/prints for the eyes. The old hall had the option to remove the lower jaw, so you could have the mouth open to di exactly that. I doubt you can do it in the new east wing with a wall right behind the the pullout room.
-
You say it as if it was a bad thing!
-
That's not even my issue. I am perfectly fine with things not perfectly matching scale-wise. It is in my opinion part of the cartoony charme, if everything looks a bit crouded together. Otherwise i would buy 3d printed scale models. To me the problem here is that the statue just looks terrible. With a few more studs on every side they could have done at least something comparable to the last iteration in terms of design - which I really like. I can't wrap my head around how the most detailed version can be so much inferior.

This. My issue is that everything is white/grey in the lego miniatures. In the movies they have translucent, but still flesh coloured skin and everything. There the blood in red works. The Lego Version removed any colour on every single ghost (i'll ignone cmf Myrtle. She is completely blue, because the light in her sceenes was blue) except for the red blood. That feels wrong to me. That's the thing... it takes a fan to get many references lego builds with just a few bricks. I have no issue that someone who does not know stands in front of my display wothout a clue. To be honest I am also very surprised lego didn't do it silver, because they are censoring so much on movie characters. I did not expect them to give us a blood soaked character so easily readable by kids. Fair point. To be honest I think they just changed the colour so it would not be the same as before. I thought about the middle part, too. Could that middle part be replaced to look like in the new version with existing parts in olive green? I think so. The East wing suffers in my opinion very much by the lack of another new teacher. I can build students with robes myself so I do not care about those "new characters", if there are no new kid face prints. What bothers me about the system is the fixation on the pull-out-room-sizes... the chamber desperately needed a slightly langer face for slazar slytherin like in the last chamber. With the devils snare in the main tower and the slide next to the chamber it isn't like anyone would put the hufflepuff common room or something like that there, so they could make it a few studs wider, if needed.
-
I made my own lee joarden with the exact same hair piece and the reddish brown face from Harry's classmate I forgot the name of, who got several versions. I think lego recycled this exact face, too. The slytherin girl seems to have the same face as the one in the potions class room. The only relevant minifig is the bloody baron and to be honest... seeing him with the red instead of silver blood I am questioning, if I want hihim. Owning the basilisc in the much prettier olive green I have to say the great hall offered much more to me for less money.

I collected the cmfs until series 19. There were allways 14-15 figures I 100% adored and one that was kinda cute, at worst ok-ish. Got that last one to have a complete collection. The in my opinion disgustingly ugly care bear made me stop that. Yeah... I stopped hunting trophies when I saw ridiculous ones like batman arkham origins online Trophy. you only get ut, if you use every way of taking out another player each method with another player (you do not see who is who) in one single game. Litterally everyone who has this trophy got together with a group of other trophy hunters, who placed their characters in the spots where they have to wait for him. No reason to feel pride about wasting my time that way. At this point I just want my perfect little lego Hogwarts in a glass livingroom table... still thinking about, if I should even buy the east wing... there is so much mocing to do I could pretty much build it from scratch.
-
I guess it is the same reason people are watching guides on youtube where to find the 200 pigeons in GTA4 so they can unlock a trophy saying they completed the game 100% and later complaining how video games ain't fun... or watching every Single Simpsons episode to have seen them all while telling the world everything after the simpsons movie was trash... or complaining about 40k releasing too many models, while I am just happy to buy one that appeal to me, when I am happy with my current one completely painted. Completionism isn't rational and it is hard to fight, if it is in you.
-
Nope. It looks severly unfinished like most of the line. I will replace the stickers with custom prints. That's why I didn't place any of them on all of the sets... especially the not so great hall just looks pathetic purely buildwise. Even the Minifigs in this set are just ok-ish in most cases. Myrtle again having plain legs is a disgrace. The only reason I thknk about getting this set is through a buddy working at a lego store with 40% as a foundation of a moc.
-
Well, it is difficult to argue people need Lego at all xD That's why I put it in quotation Marks. I just think it is not that unlikely that a child (or childish adult like me) thinks "I would love to play how all the students do their patronus spells" ... the golden Figures were in my opinion the perfect fomo-collectors item, because nobody who just wants to play with his stuff, do stop motion clips and so on will miss those.
-
In my opinion the golden figures were perfectly fine, because nobody "needs" them. Making patronus moulds exclusive collecting objects in some cases only available in unrelated non-minifig scale display pieces worthless for play would be morally wrong towards kids and casual fans.
