The Pearl - Conclusion

Bon Voyage!

img_6104.jpg

The crowd had surrounded Betty / Ferrik and two different security guards arrived to escort her away.

img_6105.jpg

"Not so fast, megablocks! Reach for the sky!"

"Where did you hide that gun?" someone asked, noting Betty's swimsuit.

img_6106.jpg

The two expendable security guards hit the deck immediately, fearing for their lives as the others raised their hands in distress.

img_6107.jpg

However, Betty had clearly forgotten about Bill, who produced a rod and hit Betty over the head with it.

img_6108.jpg

The diamond fell out of her swimsuit, revealing Betty / Ferrik to be the last and final Thief.

"Where did you get that rod, Bill?" someone asked.

"It's my Johnson Rod." Bill said.

img_6110.jpg

"Not so fast!" Susan / TinyPiesRUs said.

"Holy hell, how many factions are in this game?" someone asked.

img_6111.jpg

"Now I have the diamond!"

"What are you going to do with it?" someone asked.

"I'm not sure. My role pm doesn't tell me what to do with it once I have it." she replied.

img_6112.jpg

Susan put the diamond down and walked off out of the Ice Lounge. She was a Criminal.

img_6113.jpg

"I am a scum too! Why won't you guys lynch me?! I've been telling you I'm scum for the past two days!" Michael / badboytje88 said.

img_6114.jpg

blam!

img_6115.jpg

"You're welcome, Phil."

"Thanks!" Phil replied off camera.

Michael / badboytje88 was an Amateur Thief.

img_6116.jpg

"I've checked the roster. It would appear that we've gotten all of the thieves, master criminals, criminals, non-players, and amateur thieves."

"Hooray!" the town called out.

"Unfortunately, I'm afraid that the passengers aren't going to make it. Staff!"

img_6117.jpg

Each member of the staff produced a weapon.

"Seriously. Where are you guys hiding these things?" someone asked.

img_6118.jpg

And with each passenger cut down and gone, Captain Bob / Bob, the Super Mastermind and the Pearl's Staff could rest easy knowing that they would be safe from all lawsuits and potential spoilers of future mystery cruises.

"Bring up the convicted." he said.

img_6119.jpg

The living scum assembled in front of the Staff while Jordan / Tamamono, the only surviving passenger, waited to the side.

"I'm sure you're wondering who your mysterious benefactor is."

"Yes, who?!" the scum asked.

"It was us. The staff of the Pearl. Myself really. The others just played along."

He turned to Jordan.

"And you, Jordan. I trust you will not mention this to anyone?"

img_6120.jpg

"Baby, baby, baby, you can count on that." Jordan said.

Host Feedback / Notes:

There's definitely several things that I would change, chief among them is removing the whole theme day idea. It was rather useless and there was going to be an MOC contest using the set numbers, but that just ended up confusing everyone because people thought that the set numbers correlated with allegiance. Additionally, the scum didn't stand a chance in this game. There were technically five investigators, and in this game it would be to the neutrals advantage to work with the townies rather than the scum. Something I didn't account for is what badboytje88 did on Day Three. He went and revealed that Peanuts was indeed scum. So, that's one thing that I would drop. Adding the amateur thieves team was also another mistake. They were always supposed to be introduced, before I'm accused of adding them in to attempt to bring in a new balance to the game. That is why, if you will notice, they're the only other husband and wife (other than Rufus and Ferrik, and Ferrik is already aligned with scum) so they make a natural scum team. Nobody picked up on this, really.

I'm ready for a brutal thrashing, so have at thee.

Once again, thank you for playing.

Easter Eggs:

Ernst the Chef from Day One and Two is from Mystery Castle.

Johnson Rod that Bill is holding is from TheBrickster's Murder On The Emerald Express game.

Excalibur's Engine Room is the same as the Pearl's Engine Room.

Jordan Blieber is Justin Bieber.

Thanks for letting me play, Bob! I really enjoyed this one. And not just because we won.

Host Feedback / Notes:

There's definitely several things that I would change, chief among them is removing the whole theme day idea. It was rather useless and there was going to be an MOC contest using the set numbers, but that just ended up confusing everyone because people thought that the set numbers correlated with allegiance.

The numbers thing was interesting. It gave everyone a talking point at the start of the game, and actually helped us clear Bill (Redblade) on the last day: he missed his number, which the revealed scum (Pie, Danny, and Peanuts) hadn't. There was no way the scum wouldn't have talked about them. If it affected the balance at all, it therefore gave scum a slight disadvatage, but would have had little effect if the scum hadn't been unlucky early on.

Additionally, the scum didn't stand a chance in this game. There were technically five investigators, and in this game it would be to the neutrals advantage to work with the townies rather than the scum.

That's not necessarily true, but it certainly appears that way. They were unlucky to be up against Hinck and def. If Hinck hadn't caught Pie out on day 2, things could have gone very differently; if def hadn't decided to work with town - helping to clear several people - then at least the remaining scum would have lasted a little longer.

I'd agree with that - Badboy's reveal hastened the scum's demise. I did spot that Badboy and Nightshroud were husband and wife (and had adjacent numbers) but it was obvious that Nightshroud was Badboy's 'partner in crime' even before he admitted it, so it wasn't really important. I was bothered about Betty being my wife - I wasn't allowed to kill my own family - which is why I worked quite hard to clear it up in the day thread, because I couldn't kill him at night.

Additional Easter Egg: Ossie (Rufus) and Is (Pandora) from IMHOTEP.

I spotted that one!

Rufus, I did not even realize you were the vigilante, and not that Hinckley was the Protector either. I did not ask, because I felt I did not need to know such things. The only things about roles I paid attention to was the fact that I had figured out Tinypies and Sandy must have been the tracker and the other master criminal, but I did not know who was who at that point, so glad I got that correct, not that that mattered.

I am genuinely happy how I did in this game, I wasn't a dick! Woohoo, everybody rejoices, root vegetables for everyone! I think the role I had helped, now I need to learn how to play vanilla and scum I guess. Speaking about my role, it was very powerful, being virtually unstoppable. I investigated Ferrik on the last day because of what he said, and that was the right decision it seemed! Bob, may I suggest that if you use a Godfather, you make the result (vanilla) Innocent/Town, because if there's a result like this, I feel it's always going to be followed up on.

I actually thought Redblade was the tracker. I figured the tracker would have known Pie was lying, and maintained their vote - which only Redblade and Danny did. Danny was obviously scummy (sorry Danny, but you were), but Redblade looked a good candidate - there was even a suggestive exchange with def. As I pointed out in PM, the actual tracker - Sandy - even unvoted Pie! That goes to show how good Pie's defence was.

I didn't tell anyone I was the vig, apart from Hinck, and then just before he died. I wasn't sure if I trusted anyone enough. I didn't even trust you - I thought you might be a scum role-cop (don't know where I got that idea from :innocent: ) and had sacrificed Peanuts because he was likely to be lynched anyway. It was only when I saw that Peanuts had repeated accused you early on that finally convinced me.

Ferrik could have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for us meddling kids. All he had to say was, 'I have no idea why you got that result, but I swear I'm town,' and we'd probably have lynched Badboy, buying him another night. I did wonder whether he had some sort of 'undercover' role, like mine - I was actually a CIA agent only posing as a toaster salesman ( ) - and the fact that he was my wife ( ) made me wonder if he had some other town role. That was why I PM'd him, but his failure to answer blew the whistle on that. Still, I agree, having him investigate as Town would have made it much more difficult for us.

What an interesting turn of events!!

I am suprised to find out that it's already over! :cry2:

I really had fun with this game; I was uber-convinced Def was pulling a fast one on us and I may have played that card a bit too hard.

I now realize that my gut feeling was bang-on seeing that the only persons, besides Def, I was in communication with (and trusted) were all PRs ... Sandy, Rufus, Hinck and later Scuba!

I guess this means I am getting better!!!

Well Bob, thanks for hosting. It's lovely to have a win, but I need to give you some feedback. (It's important to give the same feedback whether you win or lose)

-there was no incentive for me to play. I simply needed to have a successful night action once. So I told Rufus day one about my role to prevent things being boring. Since he blabbed to Hinck, yeah, it boosted my participation. Pies deciding to share his info was his own discretion. I can't think of a way to make this role work.

-Coin flips suck. "I won!" "Was it through hard work and cunning strategy?" "No, coin flip." It removes most of the joy in mafia.

-you meddled in the thread too much. Sure, thinking the set numbers corresponded to allegiances was a dumb idea, but the host shouldn't end that discussion... twice. And confirming Scumba's claim on the last day was bad.

-Ferrik shouldn't have had two night actions his last night. There needs to be a cost to the scum of losing players, and the actions pile-on is a cheat. He should have chosen to either steal or kill.

<edit> Forgot to mention, Sandy's tracker results shouldn't have said 'unsuccessful.' It was a cheat that let me play longer.

I think that's it. Thanks for having me play. It was my first time in a Bob mafia, and quite an experience!

@Def, It wasn't a pile-on. The Steal was added when we lost our Diamond. Everyone got it in addition to their Actions.

Well, that's equally frustrating. One action per person per night. Maybe that's just me though, since I've seen other hosts do that before.

Danny, one of the things that gave you away was that you kept going on about Excalibur 1 in the day thread. It was obviously in your mind. The main thing, though, was that - during the Pie lynch - it was obvious you knew Pie's allegiance. At the time, I thought Pie would prove to be town, which made you look even worse (I'd have been less likely to kill you if I had thought Pie was scum). Hope that helps for next time!

Why am I telling you this? :look:

So I told Rufus day one about my role to prevent things being boring. Since he blabbed to Hinck, yeah, it boosted my participation.

I didn't have much of a choice. Hinck, Scuba and I were in a group PM, and Hinck was finding you suspicious. If I had sat on what I knew, it would have blown what little trust we had already built up if it had been revealed later that you had told me, so I had to say something - and I felt the best thing was to share the entire conversation. Perhaps I should have told you to contact him yourself, but at that stage I wasn't 100% sure I could trust you, so I felt that was the best thing. As it turned out, it helped catch Pie - he probably wouldn't have been lynched if it weren't for your mention of the other tracker.

-Coin flips suck. "I won!" "Was it through hard work and cunning strategy?" "No, coin flip." It removes most of the joy in mafia.

A better thing might have been to have the first action received be the 'winner' in these cases, but that might caused timezone problems. There will always be some luck in Mafia, even if it's only in the allocation of teams, or a lucky guess by an investigator; however, I do agree that roles shouldn't generally have random elements.

I didn't have much of a choice.

You told me that, and I believed you... then in the Deadboard, Hinck said that you told him because you didn't trust me. It's a case of he said/she said, but you know what? I believe your story. Why wouldn't he have found me suspicious? I publicly said he was suspicious, and Hinck's shit doesn't stink, or whatever phrase Jonathan used

I know the word blabbed has negative connotations, but Hinck is such a loose cannon, that I would have preferred you told pretty much any other person, who I would have been able to reason with :classic:

Diane

Passenger Number: 9468

You’re Diane, an ordinary passenger aboard the Pearl. You’re taking the voyage with your husband George and your son Phil, and his wife Betty. The four of you researched the trip and decided that it would be fun to get away from all the work and such that you’re forced to deal with.

You’re innocent, you have no night actions.

Here's my role information. I took out the picture because it was apparently deleted.

Same here, which is why I dropped out. Sorry I couldn't stick it out with you guys. :cry_sad: Bob, the presentation/story was good and it looked like it was an enjoyable game for those who participated. I am glad to see some of the newer players really starting to get into their stride and look forward to having another go at all of this at some point soon.

My role:

Barbara

Passenger Number: 7785

You are Barbara, a purveyor of fine jewels. You came aboard the ship to steal the diamond, but found that somebody had made his or her move before you. Damn, that really blows, doesn’t it?

You are a master criminal (third party). To win, you must be in possession of the diamond when the game ends, no matter who is the winner. To do this, each night you can choose to steal the diamond from one person. If you try and steal it from a member of the thieves’ team, you will obtain the diamond. Be warned, you are not the only third party criminal.

Then I asked this:

If I have the diamond and die before the game ends, do I win?

To which I got this reply:

Yes. As long as you've had it at one point you win. You could lose it and it wouldn't matter.

I thought I needed to maintain possession, but then I just needed to have it once. This was part of the reason I was sure Pies was the same as me. When he first contacted me, he described my original win condition... Hmm. Not the best situation.

Also, I have to say that after Day 2 I was convinced or at least pretty sure that ADOH and Legonator were scum based mainly on how quick/willing they were to follow me in my blind rage-fuelled attacks on Def and what I thought was a lie-of-a-town block!!

It's over? That was fast.

Thanks for a fun, albeit short game, Bob! I think this is my first win, actually.

George

Passenger Number: 7093

You’re George, an ordinary passenger aboard the Pearl. You’ve decided to take the cruise with your wife Diane, your son Phil, and his wife Betty. You were promised with fun and relaxation.

You’re innocent, you have no night actions.

I forget if I had an action or not in Eurodina, but if I did then this will have been my first game without a night action.

I have to admit, I didn't expect it to be over so fast.

This was like Gotham, where the neutrals helped the town and the scum didn't have much of a chance. Def's clearing of me and BoyWonder helped focus on other targets, and badboy outing Peanuts like that really helped turn the tide.

Thanks for letting me play, Bob, and well done to the Innocent PRs, great job.

Thanks for hosting, Bob; your games are always enjoyable to read/play. :sweet: And congrats to my fellow townies and to def and TP! Good job, guys. I'm glad youdidn't let me down. I'd have certainly been disappointed if my martyrdom was for nothing.

Like def said, adding third parties who can complete their objectives before the game is over upsets the balance. Once someone's won the game, they have no reason to continue playing, so they'll either A. ask to be modkilled/just stop playing (thus upsetting the balance of players) or B. tip the scales for one faction or another, again ruining the game's balance. Even if they have another win con, it's important to make them play the entire game just as town and scum do (such as def did in BB1 when he made Sandy kill 3 people and survive to end)

In addition, it's important to make sure you don't have any neutrals that can cooperate with town; the way the game is played now basically invites any neutrals to townside and thus make the game even more stacked against the scum than it already is with the current playerbase.

Anyways, all in all a good job! Very enjoyable game!

I wouldn't even use that role now, just for the record. Too easy for them to work with town as a vig. The SK has to kill everyone or else! :sadnew:

You were active, which was great. As I told you in PM, as much as I thought you were doing something scummy in not wanting to lynch Peanuts, I could say that you were being active and aggressive enough that you were likely town. The scum here are just so quiet that having a vanilla player be active is so important to town. And no town used a night action on you, nor were you targeted by thieves. I think you can be satisfied with that.
