(For any mods wondering that's the first line of Beowulf in the original old English, translated as 'Listen! We --of the Spear-Danes in the days of yore, of those clan-kings-- heard of their glory. how those nobles performed courageous deeds.') Turning to a rather earlier part of the middle ages than most Castle builds, this is the first in a three build series I made last year based on the Anglo Saxon epic poem Beowulf, the longest surviving work in Old English. The story of Beowulf revolves around three fights between Beowulf and different monsters. First up is Grendel, a lumbering giant descended from the biblical Cain, who terrorises the golden hall of Heorot every night to stop the music and feasting there. Beowulf wrestles with the monster and tears off its arm, leaving him to run back to his lair to A few more pictures can be found here. Fun fact: in the lord of the rings books, Meduseld was very much based on Heorot, both Golden halls of saxon-esque kings. Astute fans here might notice that, in this case, the visual influence has definitely flowed in the other direction! Constructive feedback welcome, but this is long since demolished and so I may be unable to take it on board with immediate effect... :P Parts two and three to come!

After a long absence, that I am presenting today it is the single largest MOC and challenging I have ever done so far. This MOC represent a medieval winter district with 4 houses, a cemetery (on the back) and a rock mountain with a castle used today for tourism visits. Around the block it consists of 6 Baseplates 32x32 and will be part again of my famous Winter Village. This project took me nine months of work and the use of 16,000 pieces. All the houses and the whole castle (and the basement of the castle) are embellished with furnishings with many scenes and details. The entire moc consists of 45 Minifigs and there are various curiosities scattered to embellish the work. I put on Flickr over 100 photographs to observe every detail of this moc. You can ask me all the curiosity and I will try to fill all your questions. This MOC will be presented for the first time in Lecco (Italy) during the two days of the exhibition at the end of July 2016. Flickr Complete Gallery: Greetings to all! Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic 6 Album A Lego chess set based on the Nexo Knights theme. Altogether, including parts that aren't available on LDD (8 Scurrier figs and the helmets for the 2 Ash Attackers), this model would add up to 1022 pieces. The base features storage space for the chess pieces themselves, and two modular sections visually based on the good and evil factions in the theme. The board itself is also modular and separates into four 16x16 sections. The two halves of the board can be separated and stacked on top of one another for storage. The chess pieces themselves all have simple yet uniform bases that allow for easy color-coded identification. The "good" Nexo Knight faction features King Halbert (King), Queen Halbert (Queen), two Royal Soldiers (Bishops), two hover horses (Knights), two Nexo Shields (Rooks), and eight King's Squirebots (Pawns). The "evil" Lava Monster faction features Jestro and the Book of Monsters (King), Lavaria (Queen), two Ash Attackers (Bishops), two evil hover horses (Knights), two Shields of Absorption (Rooks) and eight Scurriers (Pawns). I would love to build this physically and/or submit it to Lego Ideas, but am hesitant due to how obvious the idea is. Lego has released many chess sets in the past, most of them based on Castle themes, so chances are Lego is already considering releasing a chess set for the Nexo Knights theme. I would not want to buy all the necessary figs and parts on Bricklink only for Lego to release a similar set on their own!

As the fierce struggle against the invading Algus continued, it became obvious that Mitgardia needed to strengthen its defense against the frozen beyond. Thus a new fortress was to be established in the north, to serve as the main bastion against this chilling foe. The construction of such a castle was no small feat, and troops and supplies were rallied from all of Mitgardia. Upon its completion, the great fortress Rekkrfell was manned by the Kylma Katsella. This was built back in April of 2015, and was really too big for the parts and time I had available then. Thus, while there are several sections I really like, I'm not very pleased with the MOC as a whole. There are more pictures available on my website, link. C&C always welcome

Sadly, my LEGO collection is neither the cleanest, nor the most organized, so some pieces may not be of preferable quality. And, due to shaky hands, I am not the greatest photographer.

Hello! This is my first MOC, created a few months ago using LDD. The idea is an adventuring party has set up camp for the night, and while the members make their preparations for the journey ahead, the bard plays by the fire to entertain them. I hope to build this scene "in the brick" one day, and I know there are several things I want to change already. But what I'd love is to hear from some of the expert MOCers here on ideas to improve. Please, feel free to rip it to shreds - you can't hurt my feelings. I'm just looking for ways to improve my skills. Thanks in advance everyone! Part One Sir Edwyn looked around the room, squinting as his eyes adjusted to the dim firelight. “Evidently The Graesker is not here. Ah well, I was not expecting to be able to meet him so easily.” “Nor was I,” his contact replied. “Please sit down, and tell me your plan. There must be a serious matter afoot to force you to seek him.” Edwyn glanced at the door nervously before settling himself on the low wooden stool. “Indeed,” he replied. “You see, there is a certain member on the council whose influence is growing too strong. He is undermining my interests left and right…I find that I am no longer able to reckon with him.” “So you wish to…ah…see his influence removed then, yes?” “Indeed. However, he is a hard target to reach. I’ve heard whispers about a man whose facility for cover arts is beyond description…. never a name, and no one seems to have made contact with him directly. There was an old man who referred me to you, though. He said that you’ve dealt with him before.” “Not directly…” Edwyn sighed wistfully. “So you are just like the others. I am beginning to think he is but a legend.” “No! The Graesker is real enough. Unless of course you are foolish enough to believe that Duke Richtenheim dropped dead on his own accord.” “So you’re the one who was behind that?” “Well I – what was that?” Both men turned around as they heard a low rasping sound emanating from the doorway. “I thought you said no one would find us here!” Edwyn demanded. Suddenly the room grew dark and cold and Sir Edwyn felt as though he was falling into a deep sleep….

A rare snow day here in NC has allowed me to catch up and post some pictures of my second real attempt at a MOC. I built the landscape first, focusing on the small ridge and the carved staircase. I wanted to add some ruins next, but they looked pretty bad since I had no real idea of the original structure in my mind. Ended up building a small fortress. The idea is that this is high up in a pass, so resources were limited and its not the most imposing barrier ever built; just something to keep small raiding parties from using the pass to enter the Kingdom. Long term I would love to actually build the mountain walls on either side as well as some space behind the fortress for the garrison (which may prove cost prohibitive); for now, you will just have to use your imagination and trust me when I say its in a pass Front: IMG_2864 by John Compton, on Flickr Back (to be filled in later) IMG_2923 by John Compton, on Flickr Passage in IMG_2932 by John Compton, on Flickr Watch out for Rocks! As im in the process of cleaning up all of MOC´s that i have staying around to prepare for finishing my Hanging gardens of Babylon, im kind of rushing through my shelves. So much have been staying around for so long with no progress going on. Also just to get a new start after my Dark age. Some are going straight to the trashbin, some i feel is ok to post. This was yet another that i felt was good enough to post, i would have done so much more to it. Change the clouds underneath, a lot of stuff i felt needed changed on the spaceship and the minifigs as well. However this along with so many others have been hanging around for over a year and i never got the inspiration to finish it. So just to get a fresh start being able to only focus on my Hanging gardens of Babylon, i just want to get rid of everything else. So this was wrapped up rather quickly as you will probably notice some holes and gaps around the build. However i felt it was fun enough to post. I will let the moderators decide wether its in the right forum as its sort of all over the place. All feedback is welcome as usual. KlodsBrik.

As I was brainstorming ideas for a new build, John suggested a castle with four phases, showing how it, and the landscape, changes through each season. Realizing a good idea when I heard it, I set to work on the castle. Since I will need to modify the landscape for each phase, I planned to have the castle lift off so it’s easy to rework the base. As usual there’s a full interior, this time accessed by both a hinging section, and pull out rooms. The castle itself was inspired mainly by the creations of Eklund, DNL, and Aliencat. Simon S. suggested the addition of a moat. The castle features a working drawbridge, gates, and shutters. This is one of my biggest builds, weighing in at over nineteen and a half pounds; the base is 52×52 studs, including the border. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Spring brings new life to the countryside, as the snow finally melts, and animals awake from hibernation, or migrate back to the area. It’s a busy time of year, as fields need to be plowed and planted, and supplies restocked. Drawbridge closed: As always, you can see more pictures on my website: link I hope you like it, summer will be coming next

The second phase of my project to show Arangr Castle through all 4 seasons. See spring here. The landscape changed most, though there are some changes to be found inside the castle as well. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Summer sees the continuing growth of plant and animal life. The warmer weather dries up the spring rains and encourages outdoor activities. More pictures can be found on my website. Thanks for looking

Oh and I've just realised I've never done a render of the building closed up. Oh well. Sort of considering whether it's worth putting this up on Ideas as an individual model or including a second building in the vein of the old MMV. I've begun work on a companion building, a guildhall with a half-timbered front and a stone rear, but it's proving a somewhat tricky build at the moment. Oh, the bakery, yes. It's designed in LDD but uses only production-colour bricks (aside from the minifigs, natch). I shamelessly copied the idea of the front shop window from the Diagon Alley set, and of course the building proportions are all from the original MMV concept.

The fourth and final phase of my project to show Arangr Castle through all 4 seasons. See spring, summer , and fall. What was your favorite season? Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Winter brings snow and ice to the countryside, and an unusual quiet, as most animals are in hibernation of have migrated to warmer climates. Fortunately a good harvest has provided plenty of food for the castle’s residents. Inside a feast is begun, and the minstrels are just arriving. See a large res picture of all 4 seasons together, here. And see more pictures of 'winter' here: link Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed this series

The third phase of my project to show Arangr Castle through all 4 seasons. This was a fun season to build, as it being the time of harvest, I was able to have lots of fun minifig details. As well as some fall foliage, which is always neat. Arangr castle is located near the Avalonian border, in Mitgardia. Fall sees the harvest of crops, and storage of provisions for winter. The leaves fall, as the weather gets colder, and animals also make preparation to hibernate or migrate south. As usual, there are more pictures on my website: link Thanks for looking, one season left

My entry into the Desert Kings challenge, opposing the Desert King. The second MOC down is the one I am entering. On his way to visit his friend Eredhalion on Peregrinus, Lord Parimere and a band of his High Council supporters have been captured by a band of the Desert Kings soldiers. Intent on transporting him to the capital for trial for treason against the Desert King, little do the guards realise, they are the ones who are now being hunted. As they approach the Akhenaten delta, the Desert King’s forces are caught in a surprise attack of Lord Parimeres friends and fellow High Council supporters. They managed to free Parimere but are unable to free the rest of the prisoners before the Desert King’s soldiers rally and repulse there attackers, forcing them to flee into the delta. As the convoy approaches Petrea, part of the force of guards departs to swiftly travel ahead to bring news of there coming, the tables are turned and the remaining guards are sent fleeing to the capital by a group of cavalry. Little do they know that the force of cavalry is made up of only three war horses, the rest are steads borrowed from supportive locals, and are just used for intimidation. Anxious to save his honour, the captain of the cowardly guards exaggerates the size of the cavalry, leading the new ruler of Kaliphlin to send his forces to capture a large force of cavalry. Little does he know that the ‘large force’ has already returned there mounts to there local allies. They have already returned to Castle Parimere, hidden near the inland sea.

After several requests, I have made an MOC of a Sherwood camp, including Friar Tuck and his faithful dogs, Marian, and another member of the Merry Men roasting a fish. The MOC includes: A hut covered in vegetation, with loopholes on the sides for archers, a table for eating using gold dishes, plenty of food in barrels and crates, and some tools and cooking utensils on the wall A campfire surrounded by rocks and places to sit, with a fish rack and a bipod for making stew The target, conveniently "borrowed" from the tournament grounds, with which Robin Hood split his opponent's arrow Three minifigures, as mentioned above: Friar Tuck, Marian, and another member of the Merry Men roasting a fish over the fire. Since Friar Tuck is such a difficult minifigure to design with existing Lego pieces, I decided to give him his characteristic look using a yellow sticker over the bowl cut hair piece (after deciding that painting made the hair indentations even more conspicuous). He is accompanied by his trusty dogs. You can see better pictures of the camp on Flickr at https://www.flickr.c...157659507712026. This is also a project on Lego Ideas if you like it enough to support it or share it: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/119057 I have always wanted to portray Robin Hood through Lego bricks. I hope you like it, and if not practical suggestions are always welcome!

My entry for Category A of the Frozen Beyond contest. There's a full interior in the manor, via pull out rooms: dining hall, armory, storage room, barracks and bedroom. The doors and trapdoor are functional. Sir Glorfindel and a group of valiant Mitgardian warriors have been serving as a task force to help defeat the Algus from destroying more Mitgardian lands and homes. Lord Thandril had let them use his Manor as one of their bases, but now even that is under attack from the frozen invaders: See more pictures here: link Thanks for looking, I still have another build or two to come this month, including a biggy

An entry into the Forbidden Fortress category of the Colossal Castle Contest. A collab between John (LittleJohn) and I: John built the landscape, while I built the fortress. The build is based off of the story of Beren and Luthien from the Silmarillion. There's a full interior inside, and the drawbridge is functional. Sauron's werewolf form, and Huan were both inspired by Dunedain and Blake Baer. Luthien and Huan, the Hound of Valinar, rescue Beren from Sauron's fortress of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Sauron takes the form of a werewolf to battle Huan. "Therefore he (Sauron) took upon himself the form of a werewolf, and made himself the mightiest that had yet walked the world; and he came forth to win the passage of the bridge... But no wizardry nor spell, neither fang nor venom, nor devil's art nor beast-strength, could overthrow Huan of Valinor; and he took his foe by the throat and pinned him down" (Tolkien 175). Gates and drawbridge closed: There's a lot to see, so check out additional pictures here: http://www.brickbuilt.org/?p=1687 C&C welcome
