  1. Dang, what a train wreck this thread has become. I think it would immediately resolve itself if a select handful of members just started sending more personal messages to one another and refrained from using this destination to record every waking thought they have concerning superheroes. When it's working well, there's a lot of great, knowledgable people here who share unique viewpoints and contribute to a collective perspective of the Superheroes theme that is far more expansive and thorough than any one single person's perspective. The sum of opinions and viewpoints is far greater than the individual's. That gestalt concept cannot work when the thread is monopolized. On the other hand, we're all welcome here until we are not. EB should always be a fun, lighthearted experience to all, and who am I to criticize someone just because they're exuberantly passionate about something we all enjoy? Temperance should abound and is very much a two-way street. In short, let's all relax, get along, and not try to dominate or steer the conversation. Let it germinate organically and be polite to each other. ---- As for Spider-Man, I think it says a lot about TLG's approach to the character that they're already hitting the wall in terms of bad set ideas and unnecessary vehicles. Sure, you need a build to go with the figs, and it's not exactly feasible to start throwing tiny scenes of Manhattan city life into a superhero set ideally marketed to 10 year olds. I suppose the Spider-Man property really isn't an ideal fit for the Lego treatment (not like, say, Batman, which at least can be vehicle driven) and it poses a true challenge for the creative minds at Lego. Clearly they want the Spider-Man mini figure to be in every kid's collection, and they want it to be easily identifiable and consistent. "Hey Look, we're Lego and We Now Have Spider-Man." So alternate costumes or even the Peter Parker identity is absent. (I can't believe we didn't get Parker in the Bugle set, to be honest.) there has been a real push to give us a supporting cast, driven exclusively from the cartoon.which has left many of us with a bittersweet aftertaste. Sure, I enjoyed getting an Iron Fist fig, but am disgusted he came before the FF or my beloved X-Men. I guess the question I would pose the rest of you is... IF YOU WERE PUT IN CHARGE OF DESIGNING A LEGO SPIDER-MAN LINE, WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE IT???? Let's assume that Lego didn't want any costume variants and every set had to include the same blue and red suited minifig... What sort of product line would you build around that? To me, the answer lies in his villains. Spider-Man's rogue's gallery is truly a unique and colorful bunch, and a great starting point for set ideas. Give us an aerial encounter with The Vulture, a wooded park scene with Kraven, the lair of Mysterio, etc. But who knows, maybe the research shows that 10 year olds really want Spidey driving a wall-crawling car with suction cup wheels! Again, how would you build a line around Spidey?
  2. I'm anticipating that this summer's X-Men set will be a breakout smash for TLG, and they may already have anticipated this and are prepping further X-men sets for rapid release in January. After all, the set was initially labelled "X-Men 1," right? With that being said, I hope TLG always treats the X sets as straight-up comic adaptations and ignores the Sony movies altogether. This will deliver better figs with better costumes, better variety and better character design overall. For example, who would rather a rogue fig of Anna Paquin in some cheesy black leather jumpsuit over the iconic comic book Rogue?? Save Miss Paquin herself, I'd imagine no one, haha. Personally, I'd be one happy Mr. Timms if we get COLOSSUS & JUGGERNAUT in the next set. You got that, Lego? -- Also, I don't need you to personally respond to my comment, 'B-Lister.' Monopolizing a thread only makes it less enjoyable for others.
  3. These are great, Baron!! Don't ever stop... Or at least not until you do the Dumb & Dumber dog groomer van!!
  4. I ordered mine on March 11, several hours after FBTB first posted the news that Shop At Home had cancelled the promotion. I actually called the order in by phone, and tried to sound really agitated by the thought of this promotion being cancelled after only 10 days (it really wasn't much of an act, to be honest). The associate was super friendly and even put me on hold to check with a supervisor to be sure that I would get the free fig. And she said I did! In the next few days I read several stories about people still having the MM show up automatically in their cart, only to receive an email that the supply had been exhausted. So I held my breath, and waited... Until today!! Martian Manhunter happily arrived at my door, free with purchase! I'm so glad I didn't follow through with the temptation of ordering one on Amazon... As for how I got one, I doubt that TLG has separate inventories for online vs. phone orders. I think what probably happened is Lego leaked the story to the online community early, and in truth the supply was quickly dwindling but still not completely out. Perhaps they gave operators instructions to only include the figure in orders where the customer explicitly asked for it... Who knows? Either way, I got my MM several hours after the supposed cut off, six hours in fact. A classic case of a time when the 'gray areas' of logistics worked to the consumer's advantage! Thanks Lego!!
  5. My friend, you need to scale back your authoritative tone, I think it's what's getting you into so much trouble around here. How do you know it isn't out yet, esp. In the USA? Do you have a TLG logistics plan in your possession? It's funny, because I've held that very set in my hands on at least 2 occasions, on American soil. Enjoy yourself, and as I say, let the conversation roam where it may. We're all friends here.
  6. Yeeesh. Even if kid collectors were able to join EB, I doubt they would because of all this immature behavior. It's a toy, friends. It should be fun, and the conversations should be friendly.
  7. I originally told myself I'd wait for March to come before picking up the new Avengers sets, to get "whatever his name is." That was before I saw the sets out I'm the wild.... That said, the Cap-Red Skull set is amazing, a fantastic value and design at the $20USD range. The tank is a quick build but very aesthetically pleasing. Certainly it doesn't feel like something thrown together just to sell more minifigs. As far as the figs themselves, the colors on the Hydra soldier really pop. Red Skull, meanwhile, is just perfect. Very, very pleased with this set. I guess the question now is.... What to buy to get the Whatever-His-Name-Is?
  8. Picked up the Avengers Lab and Penguin sets today. Absolute home runs in the figure department. Obviously comic Thor and the purple pants are the stars of the show, but Taskmaster's great, and Falcon is easily the diamond in the rough here. Awesome fig. And the build's not as boring as it looks. Nice play set with a fair amount of playability built into it.
  9. At the risk of veering back on topic... Yesterday I built the new Spider-Man Doc Ock set, and I'm relatively pleased with the results. What I hadn't known before purchasing is that there's a play feature in the back of the van that compromises the entire roof of the vehicle, essentially there IS no roof, and instead it is composed of money boxes that can "explode" with the press of a lever. What I do REALLY like is the fact that this is not a SpiderTank or some other ridiculous vehicle, but instead a realistic and believable build that could integrate itself into any City layout. I think e $20USD-range hero sets are the perfect range for kids and AFOLs alike, not only as a means of releasing new and exciting figures but also involving a substantial build that doesn't break the bank. With that being said, I love that TLG included the armored car and not some ridiculous "super vehicle" that the hero doesn't need. Most SuperHero adventures take place in a contemporary urban setting anyway, so I prefer that they include city vehicles or even structures that can serve either SuperHero OR City collections. If they continue with this ideology I can see the $20USD range continue to be popular for years...
  10. Wow... Love the Icebreaker but I'm also intrigued by all these additional components in these pics. The plane, and the tracked vehicle with the plow-- new set? Also, what about the little installation behind the ship, also with its own 6-wheeled track vehicle? That's not the same Mobile Lab design we've seen earlier... Strange!! At any rate, thanks for the pics, EIKER86!!!
  11. YES!!!! 66 Batmobile would be a GREAT set!!
  12. Got this set this week and have been repeatedly impressed both with the design and the parts. Kind of lost in the shuffle here is Dr. McScrubs-- he's, in my opinion, the nicest doctor minifig we've ever received! Beautiful print on a beautiful color-- really love it!
  13. THAT BLUE CARGO TRAIN... MUST... TRY TO... RESIST.... Aawwww who am I kidding! I love that set!!
  14. Sure. In the Winter Village Cottage.
  15. I'd love to hear that the "inserted 2015 DC range" is actually a DC range, and not an "inserted MORE YES MORE BATMAN range...
  16. Thought we had a confirmed $80USD for the Dropship?! I'll admit, that Intel seems a bit unreliable with the spectacle of 8 MINIFIGS INCLUDED is staring you down...
  17. I don't know if we need this Ponda Baba guy as a minifig, whoever he is.... But I sure hope that this time around the Cantina comes with a WALRUS MAN!! (Aaaaand relax. I KNOW. It's a joke.)
  18. Ahhh yes, remember it well! Peter gets dumped by Kitty, so Logan & Nightcrawler take him out to drown his sorrows... Don't read anymore, but I m gonna guess Uncanny #180... something?!Also like your idea for the hockey pads... Would help simulate his classic costume nicely!
  19. I noticed the BlackBird's construction in the game as well... And I just don't see it happening in production. First off, those wings would NEVER stay on, with or without swooshing! Plus, even if a fig could fit in that cockpit space (looks to be 2 wide), TLG would rather include a clear canopy piece in the design. Playability, functionality, call it what you will. But there's no way that's the production model.
  20. At one point Juggernaut smashed through the facade of the X mansion... And he was fighting fiercely with young Piotr Rasputin. AND IT WAS GLORIOUS.
  21. EUREKA!!!! (Not really.) I think at this point all we can do is over-accentuate our own expectations of this set to standards insurmountable of meeting. I love leaks as much as the next guy but it's already clear that this set will not please everyone... But at a $50 price point, is it even fair to expect it to? As I said before, the most important thing TLG has to gleam from this set is how big the demand is for more X-SETS!! Then well have ample room for more complex builds and a more diverse spread of minifigs. Until then, I'm trying to be patient over here...!
  22. As a City builder, this was easily the biggest draw in the entire Movie line. And the build did not disappoint-- I took my time and really enjoyed building the van (forget the flying machine-- I'm not even sure if I saved its instruction book). As said above, the biggest criticism is the white printing on the figs, and the scale issues in comparison with City great vehicles. I built this and the logging truck on consecutive nights, and in conclusion it just makes City trucks seem small in comparison-- I think the problem is that the Van is fairly accurate in minifig scale, whereas typical 6-wide vehicles are scaled back slightly. Still, a great set and a MUST for City builders!
  23. I have a dozen myself. And I must admit, they pop off all too easily, and seem to swing open or shut at the slightest movement.
  24. Well, in my experience with contemporary Arctic expeditionary pursuits, I... Oh, wait-- I have none. So I'll take your word for it. And don't get me wrong-- I'm still super-excited about this theme!
  25. Kind of disappointed they went ORANGE AND BLUE for the Arctic color scheme. Heck, we just had the same for Coast Guard (although it's dominant hue was primarily white, while Arctic seems to focus on orange molds). Still very excited about this one-- loving the look of that Mobile Outpost.
