I can see Construction getting the royal treatment this year. I don't have a bulldozer in my collection, mostly because the scale of the last one was just humorously colossal in comparison to the figs. So that's good news, I suppose. I'm also curious about that snowblower-- there's a special bond between a man and his snowblower, and it needs to be expressed in Lego form! What I'm really REALLY hoping for next year is an updated service station/convenience store, hopefully in the $60USD range....

LEGO Ultra Agents 2014
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I must admit... I entirely blew this theme off when I first saw its unveiling. But HOLY CRAP INFEARNO IS THE COOLEST MINIFIG RELEASED IN YEARS!!!!! Great set too-- all those SuperHero collectors ought to just forget abut all the con & video game exclusive figs and just collect this theme instead for the villains alone! Hats off, Lego -

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
You guys are acting like is a surprise that they've confirmed sets for Avengers 2... We've heard long ago that this is going to be one of, if not possibly the largest, most diverse and potentially most profitable licensing campaign in the history of movies. In short, A2 is going to be EVERYWHERE. In terms of Lego, I'm wondering if we'll get more than the traditional $10/20/40/50/80 price point breakdowns for the theme. And if we'll end up with as many Ultron figs as we did with Loki's last time.- 9,756 replies

Some people seem to forget how subjective Lego is as a hobby. What you might consider weak could be a treasure to someone else. I liked the pilot too. In fact that head is now the wise countenance of my Chief of Police.

Agree. Great build, esp. when you consider the piece count. I think the only thing I don't like about the Blackbird set is that it doesn't at all resemble the Blackbird as I recall. But yeah, a gorgeous design and, of course, the epic figures,- 9,756 replies

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Have you guys been following this story about Marvel wiping out any and all appearances and/or references to he Fantastic Four in the comics? According to places like CBR, Marvel recently issued memos to all artists and creatives to refrain from using any of the FF characters or villains. Presumably it's further fire in the feud between them and 20th Century Fox over the movie rights to the Fantastic Four, and Fox's plans to reboot the franchise. Supposedly Marvel doesn't want to promote the FF brand at all, up to and including publishing its oldest super hero team comic!!!!! If this is indeed true.... I suppose we can kiss any hopes of a 2015 Fantastic Four set goodbye. Anyone know anything?- 9,756 replies

With the green syringe, the Dino Tracker seems to be an homage or extension of the 2012 Dino line. This fig just seems to be a bit of a reach. It's just so vague... We said since the very beginning that if and when the CMF series becomes a bunch of figs that need explanations & back stories, then it's probably reached the end of the line.... this is just a random aberration, I think-- the rest of the figs are pretty great, really. I still think there's just too much attention being given to the Greco-Roman era in the CMF line that leads me to believe a full-fledged theme is being pushed and/or considered in R&D. Too many new parts, and SOOOOO much potential. *Fingers Crossed*

Just built the Arctic HeliCrane.... Yeah, only 262 pieces and the scale is still waaaaay off, but I must say, it's pretty big. The fuselage is a bit thin and flimsy, but I like it! And the sled dogs are EPIC. TRULY ADORABLE!!

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
LOVE IT... Any word on price point? I worry all those brick-built reindeer will tun a $60USD house into a $100 set. -
Just built the truck from the 60035 Arctic Outpost. This is a great little theme-- very colorful and unique in both parts and storyline. Also, this rig is HUGE!! Already knew I was going to complete the entire sub theme, and building my first set from it confirms that. Very impressed so far!

That TV adds to the authenticity! Sometimes things are hard to come by in the Arctic. Our scientists posess great ingenuity and use what they can get their hands on, haha!!

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The last Falcon is still on shelves for some retailers. Though it hasn't officially stopped TLG before (X-Wing), I'd think they'd like a bit of a cushion between a re-release of the same design. -

I noticed in the "Maximum Overload" webisodes Thor had the helmet... And just about every other fig was spot on to an actual released fig. That, plus the inclusion of so many existing set pieces, such as Nick Fury's green car from the Spidey set, makes me wonder how close Thor's helmet came to actual production in the Hulk Lab set. I'm betting there was some late quality control issue that forced them to go with the blond hair at the last minute...- 9,756 replies

Lego Loosing the Ball with Superheroes Sets
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've already heard some rumblings in NY about the potential numbers being discussed for licensing and promotion of Avengers 2.... They could be record-setting, on a scale that'd make George Lucas blush. Avengers merchandise will be EVERYWHERE next summer... And we'll get a full line of sets, no doubt about it. I'd bet they'll be out early, about 12 months from now. -
Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I just built the new 'Batwing' this morning, but I hesitate to call it that since a.) we already have a Batwing design and b.) it looks nothing like the signature Batwing shape we've enjoyed since Burton's first film. I didn't know what to think of this vehicle since the photos first leaked last year, and wasn't expecting too much... But I was pleasantly surprised. I actually kind of like it. Yes, the 'play feature' is the issue-- the wings are designed to swing in and catch the Joker as some sort of claw. I'm not even sure if the novelty holds up after the first hour for an 8 or 9 year old. But a funny thing started to happen as I looked at the plane with its wings extended straight out in front (as you'll all recall in that horrible box art)-- it actually isn't that bad. Shocking, right?? It sure looked idiotic to me in the images I had seen... But it's actually still sort of, well, swoosh able. And as the more I looked at it, examining it in hand, I concluded that yes, this is ridiculous and stupid as some sort of flying ship in this mode... But it's entirely believable as a submersible underwater craft. From there my imagination took off. It's a traditional sort of plane flying out of the BatCave, armed with missiles and even aviation lights on either side. But after a mission, or when the going gets rough, this vehicle is designed to dive beneath the surface, perhaps allowing for Batman's escape out to sea or even disappearing into the murky waterways of Gotham. The build is also loaded with tons of trans-yellow wedges and 1x2 plates, which could lend themselves to deep sea running lights. The plane transforms into a high velocity submarine vessel....? Sure Lego, I can buy that. Either way, once I'd arrived at this mindset the BatPlane suddenly makes perfect sense, and I like it a lot. It doesn't really pair up so well with the Steam Roller any more, but I'd invite anyone to consider if in this way to justify adding it to your own BatCave. Now if I could only come up with a better name for it than BatPlane...- 9,756 replies

Lego Loosing the Ball with Superheroes Sets
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
Whether or not they are "Loosing" anything hinges primarily on each individual's expectations. Let's be honest with one another, when the license was initially announced how many people actually thought "Oooh, the Fantasticar in Lego form, can't wait!!!" Of course we didn't... It was all about minifigs, and the more iconic, the better. I will agree, we've gotten far too many cartoon and movie costume designs for my taste, which might look better on the screen on real people, but are inferior to the more colorful comic designs in the medium of minifigures. The best figs we've received so far are undoubtedly those most faithful to the comics. But as for WHY we've gotten so many cartoon and movie sets... Well let's remember whose assets these are in the first place. In other words, it's not TLG obsessed with building from "Ultimate Spider-Man," it's Marvel who's trying to cross-promote a brand here. This is the real problem here-- if Marvel & DC would just get out of Lego's way and let them put together a solid series of product line without any interference from Hollywood marketing execs, we might all be a bit happier. That, along with unrealistic production deadlines are hurting this theme. Marvel's expectations of turnaround is presumably SO TIGHT that they force Lego designers to throw together sets with little or no visual feedback at all just to get the products on shelves in time for a movie or cartoon release (See Iron Man 3 sets). Perhaps that's what happened with the Electro set. We don't know... But it certainly was a rushed design built to fill a price point by a certain deadline, and the results speak for themselves. In my opinion the best hero sets we've gotten so far are designed more for their own sake, not just to promote a movie or show. I feel the best we've gotten out of this line so far is the 76017 Captain America vs. Hydra tank set and the 6862 Superman vs. Power Armor Lex sets. They were built from a Lego designer's imagination, with a strong reverence and loyalty to the classic iterations of the heroes themselves. They JUST WORK great on their own. joker's Funhouse could easily be included here as well, or even Arkham Asylum. I just think that, yes, this line could be much stronger, but the problem may very well lie within the corporate partnerships of the comic entities than within Lego itself. -
Alternate builds for 76014: Spider-Trike VS. Electro
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Godtshep's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is actually a great idea for a thread, perhaps even an EB community activity or contest. Unfortunately, it requires the participant to buy the Electro set, and I'm decidedly undecided on the whole thing. Especially now that TLG has released a second, and in my opinion, far superior comic-based Doc Ock just a short time after the TV adaptation.... I loathe the idea of spending any money on this blue fig only to see Lego roll out a comic Electro, crazy mask and all, in 2016 that I would prefer. But if I do spring for this set, sure, I'll try my hand at actually making something worthwhile out of the pieces of this monstrosity.- 2 replies

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Dang, what a train wreck this thread has become. I think it would immediately resolve itself if a select handful of members just started sending more personal messages to one another and refrained from using this destination to record every waking thought they have concerning superheroes. When it's working well, there's a lot of great, knowledgable people here who share unique viewpoints and contribute to a collective perspective of the Superheroes theme that is far more expansive and thorough than any one single person's perspective. The sum of opinions and viewpoints is far greater than the individual's. That gestalt concept cannot work when the thread is monopolized. On the other hand, we're all welcome here until we are not. EB should always be a fun, lighthearted experience to all, and who am I to criticize someone just because they're exuberantly passionate about something we all enjoy? Temperance should abound and is very much a two-way street. In short, let's all relax, get along, and not try to dominate or steer the conversation. Let it germinate organically and be polite to each other. ---- As for Spider-Man, I think it says a lot about TLG's approach to the character that they're already hitting the wall in terms of bad set ideas and unnecessary vehicles. Sure, you need a build to go with the figs, and it's not exactly feasible to start throwing tiny scenes of Manhattan city life into a superhero set ideally marketed to 10 year olds. I suppose the Spider-Man property really isn't an ideal fit for the Lego treatment (not like, say, Batman, which at least can be vehicle driven) and it poses a true challenge for the creative minds at Lego. Clearly they want the Spider-Man mini figure to be in every kid's collection, and they want it to be easily identifiable and consistent. "Hey Look, we're Lego and We Now Have Spider-Man." So alternate costumes or even the Peter Parker identity is absent. (I can't believe we didn't get Parker in the Bugle set, to be honest.) there has been a real push to give us a supporting cast, driven exclusively from the cartoon.which has left many of us with a bittersweet aftertaste. Sure, I enjoyed getting an Iron Fist fig, but am disgusted he came before the FF or my beloved X-Men. I guess the question I would pose the rest of you is... IF YOU WERE PUT IN CHARGE OF DESIGNING A LEGO SPIDER-MAN LINE, WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE IT???? Let's assume that Lego didn't want any costume variants and every set had to include the same blue and red suited minifig... What sort of product line would you build around that? To me, the answer lies in his villains. Spider-Man's rogue's gallery is truly a unique and colorful bunch, and a great starting point for set ideas. Give us an aerial encounter with The Vulture, a wooded park scene with Kraven, the lair of Mysterio, etc. But who knows, maybe the research shows that 10 year olds really want Spidey driving a wall-crawling car with suction cup wheels! Again, how would you build a line around Spidey?- 9,756 replies

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm anticipating that this summer's X-Men set will be a breakout smash for TLG, and they may already have anticipated this and are prepping further X-men sets for rapid release in January. After all, the set was initially labelled "X-Men 1," right? With that being said, I hope TLG always treats the X sets as straight-up comic adaptations and ignores the Sony movies altogether. This will deliver better figs with better costumes, better variety and better character design overall. For example, who would rather a rogue fig of Anna Paquin in some cheesy black leather jumpsuit over the iconic comic book Rogue?? Save Miss Paquin herself, I'd imagine no one, haha. Personally, I'd be one happy Mr. Timms if we get COLOSSUS & JUGGERNAUT in the next set. You got that, Lego? -- Also, I don't need you to personally respond to my comment, 'B-Lister.' Monopolizing a thread only makes it less enjoyable for others.- 9,756 replies

REVIEW: 5002126 Martian Manhunter
Mr. Elijah Timms replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in LEGO Licensed
I ordered mine on March 11, several hours after FBTB first posted the news that Shop At Home had cancelled the promotion. I actually called the order in by phone, and tried to sound really agitated by the thought of this promotion being cancelled after only 10 days (it really wasn't much of an act, to be honest). The associate was super friendly and even put me on hold to check with a supervisor to be sure that I would get the free fig. And she said I did! In the next few days I read several stories about people still having the MM show up automatically in their cart, only to receive an email that the supply had been exhausted. So I held my breath, and waited... Until today!! Martian Manhunter happily arrived at my door, free with purchase! I'm so glad I didn't follow through with the temptation of ordering one on Amazon... As for how I got one, I doubt that TLG has separate inventories for online vs. phone orders. I think what probably happened is Lego leaked the story to the online community early, and in truth the supply was quickly dwindling but still not completely out. Perhaps they gave operators instructions to only include the figure in orders where the customer explicitly asked for it... Who knows? Either way, I got my MM several hours after the supposed cut off, six hours in fact. A classic case of a time when the 'gray areas' of logistics worked to the consumer's advantage! Thanks Lego!!
