  1. I didn't like the panelling at first. I preferred it when they concentrated on making the lines of the vehicle look good as opposed to filling in between the lines. For a number of years it just looked like a patchwork of panels full of gaps, neither fully filling in between the lines nor even making the lines. But the designs and the parts have evolved slowly over the years, I am slowly beginning to like the panels. The Arocs looks as beefy as an old beam built design like 8868 (though still doesn't feel it) and the Porsche may win out over even 8880 for best looking supercar depending on how it's finished. for me, that is a huge compliment as I love 8880!
  2. Try a good grippy elastic band in the rim of the wheel.
  3. Next year, a hamster trebuchet! I'll make one for my cat, and call it a cat-apult
  4. I did buy an 8082 because of him. I never really wanted it before but after seeing his review I had to have it, and it's great!
  5. Aw you didn't have to spoil it so early
  6. Porsche has been postponed indefinitely and MAY not ever be released. My source (who absolutely cannot be named) didn't know much else, just that the designers had really high ambitions for the set and it has been in development for over 4 years now but sadly they are not able to reach what they wanted to achieve with this set just yet, maybe in a few years time which is why it's postponed and not cancelled entirely, though the feeling is that they might have to. Plastic Lego pieces can only do so much. Would love to know what their ambitions actually were with this set. APRIL FOOLS OH YEAH BABY!!!!!!
  7. Looks like the chassis should be longer in the middle to be more in proportion to the real thing. Looking good though.
  8. Agreed. As of now I don't have enough info to say if this set is worth the 300 Euro but if it is the more adult orientated set that we hope it's going to be and if it has some more awesome new parts (like the new wheels which look really good and have a large positive offset) then I'll definitely get it. But if it turns out the be a mechanically unrealistic/simple/boring RC crawler like thing but with a porsche body then no thanks.
  9. I wonder if they can be combined with regular gear racks to make a monorail.
  10. Yup. Would really like to know why they think it's necessary to colour code parts bright colours or shades of poo in kits designed for older kids (Technic) when they don't colour code parts in regular Lego meant for younger kids. All axles and friction pins black, all friction pins with an axle, all axle with stops and all gears that can slide under gravity dark grey, all other pins and gears light grey. Of course axles can also be coloured to suit the model (like the barcode truck) but I really don't see the need to colour code any more than this and these neutral colours would look so much better.
  11. Well the Porsche doesn't come in Lego orange either, so I guess t won't be that then?
  12. Chrome would look great on an American truck. Not so good on a Porsche.
  13. @ Blakbird Well, you could take all your clothes off and ride a tricycle down the street with lit sparklers in your ears while whistling the theme tune to Dallas. That would get loads of attention! Um, do we have any more questions for the designers?!
  14. Orange seems like a strange choice to me. It isn't a safe colour, only marginally safer than purple, and the real car's lava orange looks much closer to Lego red than Lego orange.
  15. Ooooops! Sorry Um, well my question was would the designers consider these new parts . Is that not enough of a question? I will change it if you want EDit, on second thoughts, you are of course right. don't want this topic to be cluttered by wishes. I will edit or delete my post.
  16. AFOL INFLUENCE So how much of the part design process is influenced by AFOLs? If an AFOL wants a new part, is it best to just suggest it, or to also come up with as many reasons as possible as to why TLG should release it, and through what channel is it best to do that? Do you have a wish list of parts and if so what are they? DESIGN CRITERIA When designing a new part safety is obviously number one priority. Outside of a part being made of an unsafe material (like lead!) or sharp edges, how can a part be unsafe? Are there any parts that did not work out for whatever reason (like perhaps the 1M worm gear with a 1M bush on either side)?
  17. Well it's not what a set is based off of that makes it good or bad. So despite there being so many cranes already, I could see someone wanting another one if there was a new interesting feature or interesting new parts to it. Take a fire truck for example, like this one: Ok, well it could turn out really dull and boring OR if it had live axle suspension, white or red 2x11 pneumatics, a way to actually pump water and lots of chrome parts including new chrome wheel hubs with a large positive offset so that two can be directly pinned together back to back (like the real wheels) and have enough room inside them for proper steering, Ackerman steering geometry and a light and sound module that can power an array of flashing emergency lights and sound a siren, and for the extendible ladders a new way to build lattice sections, well now we have something that feels completely fresh and great, despite the fact that it is essentially another crane with a very similar form to 42009 but with a ladder instead of a crane and no out riggers. Oh, and if I was designing it, I'de bring back the Technic minifigure for this set and have 3 of them, just because it would be cool! So it doesn't matter what the set is based off of, only what you do with it. That's why in this thread, I think it's useful for people not just to say "I want a set based on ......", because a set based on anything could be great or total crap. I like it when people try to give a more complete picture of their desired set with what new parts and features it might have.
  18. Sometimes when you operate one pneumatic function, this will cause the pressure in the system to drop, so if by operator error you have another valve open which is being used to control a cylinder that is holding up some weight, that weight can drop unexpectedly. By placing a one way check valve in front of the valve it would prevent air rushing back out as another function is operated. Of course a check valve needn't be a separate part, it could be integrated into the in port of the valve for example.
  19. My wish, a UCS this: With rear tyres from new Claas Xerion tractor and new front tyres to match. 4 wheel drive with planetary gear reduction inside the wheels. Pneumatic functions powered by possibly new very powerful motorised compressor driving the following: front bucket raise/lower (two 2x11) front bucket tilt (two 2x11) front bucket open/close (two 1x5) rear stabilisers (two 2x11) rear digging arm slew (one 2x7) rear digging are slide side to side (one 2x11) rear digging arm raise/lower (one 2x11) rear digging arm bend (one 2x11) rear digging arm telescoping (one 2x11) rear digging arm bucket (one 2x11) totalling 14 pneumatic cylinders! front wheel steering front tilting axle rotating seat fake engine Highly detailed exterior Possible new parts could include: new motor with similar speed and torque of buggy motor in a PF format new wheel hubs with planetary gear reduction, new pneumatic manifold (like a t-piece but extended with 5 or more outlets and one or two axle holes for mounting), new pneumatic in-line one way check valve new pneumatic control valve with ports one the rear (instead of on the side) so they can be placed closer together and much finer (tapered) control. new excavator style bucket for rear new two part opening front bucket new tyres for front to match rear tyres but smaller size new compressor, same form factor as current fake engine cylinder block, one or many more can be seamlessly integrated into a fake engine. Estimated cost: Don't care just take my money! And as if I wasn't dreaming enough (what I have already wished for here would be amazing and the best ever!), a whole new system that would be better than LAs and pneumatics, HYDRAULICS using water which would include a little rotary pump with a similar form factor of the hockey spring block but with ports on either side. Added estimated cost: really don't care!
  20. You can use heat but you will need to slide something inside the tube while you bend it to stop it kinking, like a flex cable perhaps? Hold it place while it cools then remove the flex cable. Be careful you don't melt the two parts together though! These are very small and will heat up very quickly.
  21. Wasn't 41999 a limited run S@H exclusive?
  22. Their grip is good. Very soft and grippy rubber. Way better than todays plastic rubber.
