  1. Also had a mobile crane this year, although in the first half. I don't think there will be another one soon, but a 4 or more axle fully RC PU mobile crane feels somewhat inevitable at some point.
  2. Yes fully pneumatic, with more functions than 8 potentially. Add front bucket opening, backhoe side shift, telescopic section, there isn't an upper limit to functions you can have when it's pneumatic!
  3. Yes, a fully functional backhoe is very difficult and my hats off to anyone who can pull it off cleanly with all the functions. I'd love to see a roughly 23 stud wide scale, pneumatic, non RC backhoe. This is where TLG could produce something better than any MOC as, for example, they could have a new piece for the base of the back hoe and side shift, which is where I feel all MOCs and official sets get a bit messy, two piece opening front bucket and, just to really be awesome, a new compact (about 3 stud diameter), six piston axial pump!
  4. No Technic set fails because of the subject matter it is based on. It's all in the execution. They could make a model of a reliant robin, make it have a new realistic gearbox and new leaf springs for the rear suspension and I would want it more than the Sian. Of course it would be silly not to combine those cool mechanical details with a cool subject to base a model on but you get the point. The mechanical realism and details are where it's at for me. New helicopter, so what? New helicopter with full cyclic/collective control and swash plate and pitch control of the tail rotor, yes please! New forklift, who cares? We've had plenty of those before. But what about a new forklift that's the flagship, full RC and fully pneumatic with new micro motors/servos to control the valves, 3 section telescopic main mast with reeeeeeeeally long cylinders to raise the middle section directly, with the inner section being raise by chain/string and side shift on the forks and the power to pick up and move the Sian, oh any why not throw in a new rotating beacon light. Take my money!!!!
  5. I'd still like just a regular helicopter but with a realistic swash plate and full cyclic and collective control of the main rotor and pitch control of the tail rotor. https://images.app.goo.gl/g8FsxSfFQF7PdNhy5 Maybe something like this could reuse the bell licence and parts in dark grey and orange.
  6. From my experience it is true that high rpm drive trains are a bit less efficient, but I generally prefer them because you get less jerky movement at the output.
  7. Yeah in the Sian threads there are the complaints. However there are several Sian threads. There was a lengthy discussion somewhere about the cause of the issue but I can't find it now. I think you are half correct when talking about the limits of the medium. They are pushing past the limits if we only consider the current parts assortment. However if we are allowed to think if new parts then we are nowhere near the limits. In this case an 8 speed gearbox can be done very easily, simply and reliably.
  8. There have been reports here of the gearbox having too much friction and even locking up/breaking gears in certain gears.
  9. Wow, that's got some serious power. That idea with the 3 lipos is great
  10. How many sets have they released with design flaws due to mechanically unrealistic drive trains over the years (42009 outriggers, 8043 LAs, Sian gearbox)? They didn't cancel those. So I doubt the design flaw of the of 42113 was the reason for cancellation.
  11. Ah right. That's what I get for reading too fast while at work!
  12. Any new model with the rotors in black wouldn't need 6 as they would then be available on bricks and pieces
  13. Yup. They could hand you the set from a high shelf and say "i'm just going to open the box for you to make sure it's all there". The reaction will tell you if they are scalpers. I'd be happy for them to check. This really is a one off set. Never before, and likely never again, will Lego release a direct replica of a current military vehicle of any kind. I don't know why, it's only Lego as they say, but seeing the scalpers first hand trying to take what should be in the hands of the fans has really pissed me off!
  14. I am very confident that the parts needed to build this set will appear in future sets. The battery box for sure.
  15. Just saw the prices of these on Ebay. And I just know the woman that bought hers before me, as well as the guy that tried to buy one after me, were planning on putting theirs straight on ebay. I took quite some pleasure in opening the box knowing that this particular set isn't gonna remain MISB to be some scalpers quick buck, that an actual fan is going to build and enjoy this thing as it was meant to be. And kudos to Smyths for only allowing one per customer. The old lady in front of me looked proper miserable because she couldn't buy mine to sell as well. Shame . I just wish there was some way they could have sold these only to actual fans and not scalpers. If I wasn't second in line to enter the store when it opened I would not have ever got one. And people are paying hundreds on ebay because of these scalpers. Now that really is a shame.
  16. QUICK, if in UK get to Smyth's, not listed on website but they are on the shelves, however the two copies at my local sold in the first 30 seconds (luckily I snagged one of them)
  17. No need for such a petition, as they love making 4 function selector switch models. There will definitely be another. I would rather see a civilian Bell helicopter with full cyclic/ collective control (with new swash plate parts) and pitch control on the tail rotor, made in dark grey with orange and light grey/silver accents.
  18. Jangs view doesn't quite add up. According to Lego's own very specific rule, violence and military type vehicles are fine so long as they are fantasy. However Jang also states that a civilian rescue version of the v22 does not exist, which makes it fantasy, and therefore fine by Lego's own rule, right? He also said that it wasn't the actions of 3 protesters outside of a store that caused the cancellation of this set, then later says that Lego were called out for (apparently) breaking there own rule, but by who, that same organisation who he says was not to blame for getting the set cancelled after the set had already been approved by their own internal approval process. So it absolutely was them that got it cancelled. He also says that, although the rule is dumb in his opinion, it was based off of the idea that the founder of the company did not want kids to play war. Star wars may be fantasy, but it is still playing war, the clue is in the name starWARS. But this Technic v22 is the opposite of playing war. It is a fictional rescue craft rescuing people FROM war or from any other situation of peril. It's not like its a VW beetle that was commissioned by Hitler or an Indiana Jones set where kids get to play with Nazis. This is a fictional rescue version of a real craft. Finally he also says that he is most upset by the fan base for making this "innocent" decision so political. Well I can't speak to much about that here due to Eurobricks rules about talking politics. But what I will say is that as none of the points mentioned above was discussed or even allowed to be discussed, they just wanted it to be cancelled and that's it, I would say that stifling of any sort of discussion on the matter is just exactly what is so wrong with cancel culture, and while the cancellation of one toy may not be a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it is sad to see Lego not have the backbone to stand up to it. The solution could have been as simple as a change of name for the set. Just re-brand it as a civilian rescue v22, and maybe even donate a portion of net profits from the set to war relief efforts, and that would make it clear that this is a fantasy re-imagining of a real craft (which is exactly what it is already, so no other changes necessary), designed to save lives, not end them like in war. Problem solved and everyone is civil and we all move on, and the world is just a slightly better place. But no, the unreasonable cancel culture that can't be bothered to even entertain the idea of a reasonable discussion gets it's way yet again. BTW, if the argument is that partnering with Boeing puts money in the war chest so to speak, if you pay taxes then some of that money goes to the governments war chest, there's hardly a financial transaction that you make that doesn't go partly towards war in one way or another, and Lego's own rule has nothing to do with that anyway. Now I realise my opinion is rather firm on this, but here's the thing. If you disagree with me, that is absolutely fine. Disagree all you want, I will not be offended by the fact that you happen to have a different point of view that I do. That's because I am a reasonable person (or at least try to be). I dunno, I guess I'm just sick and tired of the unreasonable being the ones that get their way all the time, this is just one tiny straw on an already overloaded camels back.
  19. I have noticed and commented on this also. I guess without a B model there was no need for it, as the functions of the A model can now go on the back. It is a shame thought.
  20. This is just sad and typical of today's cancel/sensor/ban culture, always doing more harm than good, always creating more division between us than it removes, and I really wish TLG would stop going along with/supporting such socially harmful non-sense, stay out of politics all together and just stick to making the toys we love. I know they have to be responsible, but feeding this current cancel/sensor/ban culture that is stifling conversation is NOT responsible just because that's what many other big companies are doing. That's the opposite of responsible.
  21. That's what I do also for sets that I want to keep separate from my parts collection.
  22. I too may have been too quick to dismiss this set. There's actually some things to like here: 1) First motorised RC set with transmission (as in real, not fake like Top Gear car) 2) First ever automatic transmission, plus it has the option to be used in a manual transmission mode. 3) First transmission brake (very rudimentary and unrealistic form of a brake but still, first ever brake) 4) Is it just me or has the colour coding been toned down a little? Nice to see the old diff in DBG again and better use of instructions to prevent mistakes instead of colour coding. Although purple for the gearbox selection limiter is probably the ugliest choice of colour coding yet! 5) Metallic colour of the pipework looks nice. 6) Working steering wheel. YAY! 7) Better diffs from Top Gear car. YAY! 8) Price is about right. But still there are some things that could be better, such as: 1) I think they missed a trick with the automatic transmission. Surely the app could sense that once the motor stalls in second or third gear, it could automatically shift down to first, couldn't it? Lacking the ability to automatically change gears to suit engine load makes it less of an automatic transmission. 2) Why not use the planetary reduction hubs from 42099 for more realism and torque, maybe it could improve it's off-road performance? The off-road performance is overall quite poor. 3) LAs! 4) Upside down cam shaft engine. I hate these. Would much prefer fewer cylinders over this. 5) Only one new part, that's not really new. 6) Flimsy middle joint. 7) No suspension. 8) Unrealistic placement of transmission in the rear of the vehicle. It should be mounted directly to the back of the engine. 9) cab looks unrealistically ugly. 10) Poor steering performance. It's sloppy, goes out of sync too easily and reacts too slowly to driver input. So overall I don't think it will win any awards for "best flagship evar!", and as a control+ set it still suffers the control+ problems, such as lack of physical remote and no ability to make custom control layouts. But those are issues with control+, not this set itself, which may be fixed in future. So I'm not rushing to buy it, but it's not all bad, it's better than I initially thought. I'd like to know more on this too. I assumed that the motors would have some built in position sensing due to the 6 wires of the control+ system. But with how easily the steering of this set can go out of sync, and it's apparent inability to correct that automatically, maybe they don't, or maybe it's just not in use by the app, or maybe position sensing only works while the motors are being driven and so don't work when the motors are forced or are coasting to a stop?
  23. I like that the rotors appear to spin quite fast.
  24. The "dumb" hub reminds me of how the battery box and switches were set up in the space shuttle 8480.
