Fabuland MOC: Croc Brothers Riverside Cottage
Cecilie replied to Cecilie's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks . The carpet was kind of a last minute idea I had when I felt something was missing . Thanks . I tried to give it a cozy and relaxed feel, the way I think of Fabuland . Every genre is as cool as you make it . Glad you like it . Who knows? Thanks . Yes, I'm not quite pleased with the choice of tan to mix with the yellow for the door posts either, but I didn't have enough round bricks in yellow . I guess I should have gone with a bunch of round plates or some more contrasting color instead (just couldn't find one I liked, that wouldn't stand out too much...) -
Since Hinckley pressured sweet talked me into making a home for my lonesome Fabuland figures yesterday, I've worked almost non-stop on this little cottage for the Croc brothers. The Croc brothers enjoy the quiet life at the riverbank... And the interior: This is my first Fabuland MOC, and I quite enjoyed making it. If (when) I can get my hands on some more Fabuland figures and hopefully other Fabuland pieces, there might be more coming .

Now I'm really feeling the pressure...

Yes sir! Right away sir! (I actually have two Fabuland crocodile figures that I got in a small bag of LEGO that a non-AFOL friend of mine found at her parent's house and gave me, but that's it...)

That is a really cute house with lots of nice details . Makes me sad I don't have any Fabuland from my childhood () when I see the excellent ways those old Fabuland elements are blended in with more modern parts and colors .

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Cecilie replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Assuming these are legit (I guess it is the right time to start seeing leaked pics of series 6 now...) - Finally an alien head that looks the way I had hoped for the first alien in this series (but like others have pointed out, what's the deal with that torso and those red hands? ) - Loving the T-bone steak, hat and cleaver of that butcher . - Toolbox and Elvis-hair! The mechanic is great! - Very nice torso and legs on the female skater, and the hair looks good too. But I'm not really liking the striped arms, and that face has way too much make-up and another stupid grin. (and seriously, another skateboard? ) - The genie is most impressive. - That's a really pink spacewoman.... (nice face and hair though, and great to get a female astronaut.) - Really cool Statue of Liberty (and I don't understand how there's any doubt that it's in sand green, and that it should be sand green and not any other color) Can't wait to see pics of the remaining 6 figs! . -
Pirates of the Caribbean Contest - MOC Forum Division Voting
Cecilie replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
I think I've spent enough time contemplating the entries now... time to vote! hammelgeier - Attack of the Kraken - 3 points (This MOC is just so lively, it's really very well done!) Sebeus Iniwum - Hello Beastie - 1 point (Because I think your Kraken's mouth is excellent) Cecilie - The Fountain of youth - 2 points (Arrrr, of course this is the best entry ) -
That's exactly what I was thinking, what on earth is she(?) hiding in there? Other than that, great job on the sculpting at that scale. Love the belly button .

Another nice little Zelda vig, lovely interpretation of the ice cave That pose for Link brought the sound that comes when Link pulls something important out of a chest into my head... Gotta go play some Zelda...

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Contest - Bonus Points
Cecilie replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd like to claim Mailing list bonus point VERIFIED Total: 6 Points -
This building just screams bank, very well done! . But what really catches my eye is that fantastic dollar sign. How on earth is it holding together, or even attached to the building? My head just won't accept what my eyes see .
-
Without a doubt a worthy contest winner! This looks just like a snapshot of a real street. I'm just loving everything about this creation. The roofing, the window boxes with flowers around the curving windows, the fence around the trees, the tram, the cars... everything adds to the authenticity of the scene.

Wow, you can really feel the intenseness of the scene by looking at this MOC. The tentacles look excellent, and the ship is just perfectly shattered. Also like your microfig, although he does look like he has one leg too many .

Thanks guys for the nice comments . Yes yes, the fountain is flat and a bit too tall. My main focus for the fountain itself was to get the shape right the way I remembered it, and my first attempt was actually even taller. Because it's only one stud wide, it's hard to add texture and have it be at least remotely solid, but I could probably have added a bit of texture with some headlight bricks. However, I actually like how it turned out, I think the smooth surface of it makes it stand out from the rocky background, and I think it's ok for the fountain to look like the rock has been polished (although a little moss wouldn't have been out of place). Probably could have had som ripples around Barbossa and Blackbeard yes, but was it not forbidden to move bricks around for the different shots? And I don't remember there being bones in or around the water, but then I have only seen the movie once... Wow, thanks

I'm not exactly a regular poster in the Pirates forum, but after seeing the new PotC movie I've become slightly obsessed with the PotC movies, and it has brought back a lot of fond memories of playing with LEGO pirates as a child. I had been wanting to create a PotC MOC when I discovered this contest, so couldn't resist. I have chosen a scene from the end of the new movie, when they find the Fountain of Youth. It is based on only one viewing of the movie, so the movie accuracy might not be exactly perfect... Now, enough chit chat, pictures! Jack finds the fountain: Barbossa comes along: Blackbeard: "You brought him!" Barbossa: "I'm not afraid of you this far from your ship" And an overhead shot: Oh, and if I were to be so lucky as to win, I'd prefer the Mill.

Excellent work! That is just so cute . Wish I had one for my own desk at work...

Hat's off to you. You are an expert at using parts in untraditional ways to achieve some stunning details. That broken glass is just wow... and all those other nice details such as the lamp, the plant... The whole scene just looks perfect!
-
Lovely vig, and some ingenious parts usage you have there (urinals, door to cabin, toilet paper), but I can't say I've ever encountered the situation .
-
I saw this on flickr yesterday, and I absolutely love it . It's just so beautiful! Both the wave and the air mattress are excellent, and I spent some time figuring out how you did that air mattress, as I haven't seen that technique used before.
-
That's a very cute lion! And it's quite accurate for such a small scale. Well done!

I have built a vignette for each of my figs, but they are 8x8 and holds up as a display shelf on their own, without a display case. You can have a look at them in my flickr stream, if you need inspiration.

Here's some of my thoughts about this: - If I were to comment on every MOC I see in a day, I wouldn't have time to do any building, do my job properly, sleep enough, or whatever else I want to fill my days with. I come across a lot of MOCs (not all on EB), and most I only cast a glimpse on and move on. - If I am to comment on a MOC, I want my comment to be positive and to point out at least a couple of details that I like (maybe because that's the type of comment I like to receive?). For this to happen, the MOC has to catch my eye so that I'll want to spend enough time looking at it so I can see all those wonderful details. And this will most often happen with MOCs in categories that I like in general. - If I love the MOC, but it's in a subforum where I don't feel comfortable expressing my opinions (for example if I rarely visit that subforum), I might be more reluctant to post a comment, but if the MOC really really impresses me, I might still make a comment. - I don't feel skilled enough in any areas (at least not yet) to provide any good constructive criticism, so I will generally avoid that type of comments. I also don't want to risk hurting the feelings of builders, so I'll rather not comment if I can't be solely positive. - Many really good MOCs might fail to impress me because I don't see the beauty in that type of building, hence I will not comment. There's no point in me saying something stupid about a MOC that just isn't my cup of tea. Another point might be that because there are so many of us out there building and posting images of our creations, we are spoiled with excellent MOCs, and so we might neglect those that don't reach into the "extreme wow" category. Which is actually a bit sad...

You need to have 10 posts before you can send PMs, so only 4 left, that shouldn't be too hard?

REVIEW: 8805 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5
Cecilie replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the excellent review WhiteFang . I'm still undecided about whether I like series 5 as a whole... For some reason, it doesn't give me the wow feeling. But when I look at the individual figs, I can't help but like them. I was thinking there were only a few of the figs in this series I really liked, but when I started listing them for myself, I found that I actually really like most of them... The only fig I think is a bit of a letdown is the aerobics instructor. And besides, I am a bit manic compulsive about collecting all of these collectable minifigs . Gotta catch'em all!
