  1. More contests, yey! *contest junkie*
  2. Series 4 already? I'm so jealous... But thanks for the thourough review WhiteFang . I'm really happy to see that so many of these figs have back printing, it makes them so much better for MOCing, as they will look good from all angles (not like the hideous back of the life guard for example). But it makes me sad to hear that there won't be 3 complete sets of figs in this series either . The mad scientist isn't my favourite, but the beaker is really cool... LEGO did however state that the reason there were only 2 fishermen in the first boxes of series 3 was because of a production problem, which was later fixed, so maybe this is the case here too.
  3. My entry is for the fisherman. The fisherman thought he had found a quiet place to fish, but a surfer looking for new thrills suddenly appears at the top of the waterfall, ready to dive down, while his friend is getting ready with an underwater videocamera to film his jump, both above and below water. An image with the fisherman can be seen here.
  4. My entry is for the samurai. The shogun's most trusted samurai has been assigned as a bodyguard for his daughter. But what the shogun doesn't know is that the samurai secretly has a crush on his daughter, and is using this opportunity to take her to romantic places. But what does the ninja lurking in the shadows want? A picture with the samurai can be seen here.
  5. Aww, that's so sweet . The best gifts are the ones that come from the heart. And the snow globe you linked to is very cute . I wish my husband would make me such gifts (he's not an AFOL... yet... ). I really hope your real face isn't quite that green though .
  6. (Probably too late in singaporian time, but not in norwegian time ) Happy birthday WhiteFang .
  7. I see Christian had the same idea as me, but since it's all I can manage here at LegoWorld, I'll post my almost identical entry anyway... 4 promo figs from LegoWorld Copenhagen.
  8. Great idea TazManiac, and you beat me to it . But I'll be showing my effort along with the rest of my series 3 vigs when I have them all ready (for my modular display shelf). But I think yours is better than what I have on my drawing board right now, so I might have to work a bit harder on it .
  9. Excellent job on that logo, you really nailed it . And those windows on the upper floor are superbly done, not to mention the smooth black stairs inside.
  10. I wish... I've been so busy planning my 16 vignettes that I haven't got round to planning my contest entries. And my own restrictions on my vignettes are harsher than those of the contest, so I don't think any of them will be suitable .
  11. Finally! Now to think of some good ideas for A and B... Even though I've had it in the back of my mind for several weeks already, I just can't seem to settle on anything . Well nothing's better to get the mind going than a deadline
  12. Lots of great ideas in this thread already, but I'll try to add some of my own thoughts, beeing a girl myself I think pink mostly appeals to the youngest girls, and it isn't the way to go to get girls into LEGO. I overheard a girl talking to her dad in a toy store last year, and she was contemplating the sets while her dad was helpfully suggesting sets she might like, but even though she agreed to liking the sets her dad pointed out (I don't really remember which ones they were, but it was in the City theme), she kept saying she wanted a hospital. In the end, they walked out without bying anything, her dad saying something about trying to find out on the internet what stores might sell a hospital. It doesn't come as a surprise to me that a hospital would appeal to girls, when I was a young girl myself, I played a lot of doctor/nurse/patient with my cousins (girls) and younger brother (we always made my brother be the patient, poor guy! ). As others have mentioned already, animals also appeal to a lot of girls. Some girls are really into horses and/or ponies (heck, being an anti pink and anti girl stereotype, I still have to admit I owned a pink toy pony as a child ). But girls really seem to like playing with animals, so any theme including a lot of animals in a friendly setting (zoo, veterinarian, farm, safari...) would probably appeal to girls. Other than that, I think the city theme already has some good sets that girls might like. As a child I quite liked police and fire too btw, and owned two firestations, one police station (and wanted a second one, it was so much bigger than the one I had! ). And the creator houses are great sets for girls too. And then, of course, there was paradisa... ah, if only they could bring back paradisa... But I'm sure there are a lot of girls out there who like the action themes as well (I know I did as a child. Had lots of pirates, castle and space stuff), but unfortunetely, a lot of parents won't buy that kind of stuff for their daughters, thinking they won't like it, or that it's inappropriate (I'm glad my parents weren't like that ). (Wow, that became a really long post...)
  13. Sorry, more off-topic, but you asked... Yes he's a member, and he has posted about at least one of these here at EB: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43390 (I went to search for it, because I knew I had seen it here before )
  14. good idea! I'll have to try that
  15. Very nice . It is instantly recognizable as a miniature version of the minifig-scaled one . (I've been admiring both on flickr already )
  16. Aw, that's so sweet! It's my first time seeing a birch tree in LEGO, and you've nailed it perfectly, instantly recognizable . That arch is also lovely done. Good luck in the contest
  17. The Kinkaku-ji! . I love this temple, and your rendition of it in LEGO is just stunning, awesome, perfect . The great roof technique, the lovely walls, the cute little bridge in the back. Love it all! I'm going to keep staring at this for a little while now, dreaming of making one myself...
  18. What can I say, you never seem to disappoint . I really like those slightly curved windows, and that door fits in really good. Awesome MOC again . The whole thing looks so real...
  19. I think of SNOT as a way to achieve a look I'm not able to without. And I don't really give that much thought into using SNOT or not, I just think about how I can achieve the look I want in my MOCs. If it means using SNOT, I'll use SNOT. It's a very useful technique in a lot of ways. Here's an example of a MOC where I have no idea how I could have achieved that look at that scale without using SNOT: When using SNOT for water and such that comes down to taste I guess. If one likes the look of a smooth surface, then SNOT can be more cost-effective than tiling a large surface. But I haven't tried creating large smooth surfaces yet. I don't have the space in my current place .
  20. Thanks for the nice comments guys Yeah, might be a bit too much dark red, I'm struggling a bit to be able to "think" at this scale . I might try that, cause I should listen to the experts, right? Sadly, no It sure does! I tried that, but it just didn't look right, too bulky imo. Yeah, I'm mostly a lurker in the SW forum... Gotta do something about that
  21. I created this Chibi landspeeder for Luke for the ongoing contest over at FBTB.
  22. I love a good japanese themed MOC, and your's is superb . The roof, the walls, the sliding door, the pond, the nicely done black-and-white picture. What's not to like? Looking forward to seeing your big samurai castle .
  23. That sounds pretty lame, yeah, but she doesn't seem to be portayed as a damsel in distress in the actual sets. I just got my hands on the new 2011 catalogue (in norwegian though), and it shows she'll be getting her own spinner-pack in april, with two daggers as weapons. Her bio in the catalogue roughly translates (from norwegian) as follows: "Name: Nya - sister of fire Weapon: Two daggers Strength: She's psychic Fixes her big brother's mistakes. Kai's sister is a little spitfire who loves to fight" Sorry if this is all common knowledge (this thread is getting waaaay too long to backtrack for info), but at least it makes me happy to see they don't make Nya out to be a damsel in distress.
  24. You never build anything that isn't gorgeous, do you? This one is just as stunning as the other ones I have seen from you. And I wonder how you have the patience to stack that many 1x1 round plates on top of each other... Oh, and that little boat is really cute . Nice touch with curved edges on the base too. Looking forward to seeing your next work
  25. Congratulations to the winners, it's well deserved! Btw, Hinckley, I think there's something wrong with the link in the frontpage post about this thread... Seems to be the wrong post id, and gives an error message when clicked.
