  1. I felt I was in the same situation when I got back into the hobby. I didn't know what to build, and when I did have an idea, I didn't have nearly enough bricks of the type/color I neeeded (and I hadn't discovered the wonders of bricklink yet...) This is actually what sparked it all for me. Contests. I entered the vig contest for the series 1 collectable minifigures, and after that, I had the idea to build a vig for every figure in the series. That way I had to focus my creativity to solve a given problem. Now I'm up to 64 vigs for 64 figs and counting . Vigs is also a great place to start if your collection is small, and as time goes, and your collection grows, you can move onto bigger things . I have entered many contests since that first one, and every time I enter a contest, I feel that I broaden my horizon in terms of what types of things I feel I'm capable of building, and also what themes I actually find interesting to build in that I hadn't thought of before. Now I have a long mental list of things I want to build, but just haven't found the time to yet .
  2. That's a nice little vig, great use of the log bricks for the walls, and the porch and roof are both excellent. Great job, and good luck in the contest .
  3. Thanks everyone . Just had to be a female figure of course . Even better than LEGO gifts, I got a couple of studio lights from my husband, so now I can take better photos of my MOCs, in proper light .
  4. I'm glad you built this in real bricks, it looks way better than the LDD version , in fact, it looks totally awesome now . And very nice picture sequence, kind of like a stop motion film .
  5. Jessy was the most feared bandit in the entire west. Rumoured to be completely ruthless, people would run for their lives upon seeing her. (If there's any doubt, the custom figure is the woman )
  6. Thanks guys Works for pretty much any occasion where cake is fitting I think, as Quarryman says. But I think I would be more interested in those wrapped candies rather than the cake itself (I'm a chocolate lover! )
  7. NPU overload!! The entire thing is just brilliant, love it!
  8. So cute . And so awesome . And so realistic! Great posing in those photos too. Excellent job!
  9. Thanks . I wanted the snake to look threatening and open it's mouth wide. I think the frog does a decent job with the angle at least...
  10. Thanks Izzy . I'm glad not everyone is trying to find something I can change . Thanks. I wasn't sure whether to include the wagon or not, I'm glad I did though . Thanks . Sadly, I was in my dark ages during LEGO's western theme, so I own none of those sets or parts. I pondered whether to get some of those parts on bricklink, or just go for brick built solutions. Well, I guess you can see what I chose . Thanks. Those were some of the things I really struggled to get "right". Persistence is the key!
  11. Love the cobra . You are really really good at this!
  12. Instantly recognizable, and very cute! . Love it .
  13. Thanks everyone for your nice comments . The totempole actually started out with the idea to use those mummy wings on a totempole . I don't even have any cloth, but I think I would have made it brick built any way, much more of a challenge, and way cooler in my opinion . It's a very strong horse! Who cares, it's LEGO ! And, ehm, they brought the totempole with them from where they were before they came to settle here . I kind of wanted a snake that was a bit more intimidating than the molded snake LEGO makes, so that the boy had something to be scared of . I always stock up on more 1x2 trans plates as often as I can, such a great little piece! And I love making waterfalls in LEGO . And yes, precisely, it's LEGO, it's not historically accurate, and was never meant to be . See my previous comment, not trying to make this historically accurate . It was really hard to make those tipis look right, they're a bit too fragile to be an official LEGO design though . You flatter me . It was a pain to stack all those 1x2 (yes, 1x2) plates to achieve that rock texture . But it was worth it! There is some relief on the plain, but I ran out of tan plates .
  14. Great job converting those buildings to 16-wide! Nice touch to add the MMV in there too, as it's not a modular building to begin with. It's great to see that not everyone is so frightened to take their modular houses apart in order to make them into their own creations. It is what LEGO is for after all, taking it apart, and building something new.
  15. Here's my entry for the Spaghetti Western competition, category 2: Brickfoot tribe village. The small tribe named Brickfoot has chosen to settle near a waterfall where fish in the river is plentiful, and passers-by are usually friendly.
  16. I love cheese . As Ralph_S mentions, I view most of the sets I buy as parts packs, and cheese are wonderful parts for MOCing, so no, I don't think there are too many cheese in sets.
  17. I wish people would stop badgering the poor crash test dummy . It's one of my favourite figures from series 1, and I think it's a brilliant idea executed well. It also reminds me of this t-shirt design by glennz which was the inspiration for my vig for this guy in my modular vig shelf: But I guess, being a crash test dummy, he's used to that kind of treatment... And I really love all those figs so much , I just can't single out any as "worst". They all contribute to provide diversity in some areas, if not only for a nice torso print or funny face. But I do think the race car driver from series 3 was sort of pointless... So I guess he's my least favourite of the entire batch (poor fellow...)
  18. That is indeed an awesome looking super cool flying skateboard . Now you made me wanna get some for my own crocodiles .
  19. I did . I'm in it deep now .
  20. Yey, new title . Crocodile Architect - I'm going to take a wild guess here and assume this has something to do with my sudden jump into Fabuland building with my two crocodile figures. Hinckley I presume?
  21. Thanks Pandora . I guess I'm a natural . And, I'll try not to snatch all the good Fabuland stuff before your nose .
  22. Thanks . LUGBULK  indeed . I did consider including a boat, but I'm struggling a bit with the "anatomy" of boats in LEGO, so I chose to drop it this time. I took it as a challenge . Glad you like it . And yes, I had a good look through the Fabuland Builders' Guild index to get a feel for the genre, couldn't just jump into it without doing at least a little bit of research . And I'm quite impressed myself at the speed with which I put this together. I guess I work well under pressure .
  23. Very cool! That snowy landscape is very well done, and nice way to blend ice and fire by using a lava stream in a winter landscape . Love the temple as well, the feel of it is just right .
  24. Congratulations to all the winners! It was well deserved .
