  1. I'm just really glad that a relatively desirable figure is being made available in something which will be readily available rather than is having to resort to some kind of hoop-jumping exercise such as continental exclusive promos etc
  2. There's been a large discussion about clone brand products over in Community. There's a good chance this discussion will get moved over there. There's already a discussion about clone brand figures although discussion of anything copied from Lego isn't allowed and the same goes for any sets copied from Lego. As with anything there is good and bad quality. When it's good it's very close to Lego and when it's bad it's very bad.
  3. I think the CMFs going on sale is down to nothing more than the next series of regular CMF figures going on sale.
  4. Anybody who posts in the SW forum should be made to tick a box that confirms they've read Stash's header: Stash2sixx Not particularly leaky Star Wars Moderator That should tell you everything you need to know about how things are done. Not that I was even vaguely aware you weren't in that position anyway but I can already feel some of the adolescence withdrawing from this part of the site. You know that scene in Rebels when the Inquisitor beheads those two Imperials for incompetence? That.
  5. Stash... no questions... just thanks. Big bags of thanks. Sounds like an absolute blinder!
  6. I popped into the Lego store in Liverpool for the monthly build tonight and they had both light bley and dark bley 1x2 plates in the wall.
  7. It's a perfect event exclusive. Nothing unique, but a nice little build packaged nicely and available for people there to have as an exclusive 'keepsake' set. I'll probably BL it as it's a nice little diorama. Everyone's a winner!
  8. The Freemakers screengrab is of real interest to me because up until that point I got the feeling that the BP release was a random thing or at least linked to the fact that the Skiff was available with Boba Fett and it gave people the ability to pick those things up at the same time and have a pretty good bounty hunter collection with just two sets. For some reason I had it in my head that the Freemakers sets were branded as such but checking back they aren't. So looking at it the BP is actually a Freemakers set.
  9. Seeing that Zuckuss has really made my week with regards to Lego. I remember seeing 4-Lom in that animated short and thinking how good it would be as a physical figure. Seeing this has really made me hopeful it'll make an appearance at some point. If Freemakers did nothing other than provide us with 4-Lom and Zuckuss it would be such a worthwhile thing... and I actually enjoyed watching it.
  10. Cheers!... and replied!
  11. The print on that torso actually looks decent. Probably be worth changing the head out but it's not bad at all. Do you have a photo of the Comic Con Batman figure that was part of the recent DLP wave?
  12. The £169 price for this set seems like a reasonably priced breath of fresh air compared to the recent pricing of exclusives such as Assault on Hoth, 66 Batcave & Death Star all being over £200 and then £400 respectively. It just looks like really nice, well proportioned and well made model of one of my favourite ships in the SW universe so I'm perfectly happy with how it's all turned out including the price.
  13. Offering a printing service that is cost effective is a great idea but I'd be careful to make sure your costs are being covered. This isn't an altruistic venture where you're covering the cost of the printer just to offer items cheaply. OLS sells figures from around $30 and I know that since PPM upgraded their printer their figures have also been listed at that price. If you really think you can source torsos and print them to sell for between $2-$3 each then great. But Is that really factoring in the price of the torsos as well as having them shipped to you? As well as the cost of the consumables and a very small fraction of the cost of the printer as well as your time to set everything up? Like I said it's great if you think that's possible but I know that if I was doing something similar I'd be checking how many items can I print with a set of inks, how much was the printer, how much are services on the printer to make sure it's running well and the product I'm selling is at the best quality? From there you know what you can realistically charge for something that makes it a worthwhile venture. I think the pricing should be more down to things like that than what some people will tell you they're prepared to pay. While you may only be offering a printing service it may be worth looking into offering figures (even if only generic things such as Gondorian soldiers etc) to help generate revenue. People wanting figures is fine but they may not have designs themselves or be able to generate something of printable quality which could put them off. Having stock designs for people to populate their armies could be an option. Even if you don't sell the full fig with helmets or accessories (people can pick those up separately) it's a viable option. Also... If people are sending you designs to print I'm assuming you won't be limiting what you'll print to just LORS/Hobbit related?
  14. I've never seen a fully printed custom figure sold for $8. I think that's an unreasonably low guide to give someone. I know there are people, myself included, who only buy pad printed figures but for a subject such as LOTR there's such a shortage of custom figures that digitally printed would probably suffice especially if they're at the kind of quality Onlinesailin sells. I think it's reasonable to make a profit in your figures. Otherwise what's the point? You just need to factor in the cost of parts, the time to design and set up the print as well as the cost to print itself including a very small amount towards the cost of the printer itself. Factor these things in and you should get a good guide for what you should charge. I think offering torso only options is a good one for people who just want to pick those up. PPM offered a torso print option a few years ago at $25 for 5 torsos (5 of the same design. Torsos had no arms) as single sided print. The quality of those weren't great though.
  15. I think the hair is the same but looking at it the only difference I can see if the blue being lighter, as you said.
  16. I remember one year the first picture we saw of something was it being on shelf. Was that the last MMT?
  17. If I was to hazard a guess I'd say it was based on one of the Arkham game suits. Here's FigNation's Arkham Origins custom: This is the DLP/SY Arkham Knight variant:
  18. The torso design number of 76382 and the element ID which is 88585 show up different amounts of torsos. 700+ for the former and just over 480 for the latter. Maria Hill's torso shows up under the 88585 number.
  19. Thor as shared by Jerry Kritphiwat on Flickr today.
  20. Quality is just one aspect of a custom minifigure. Although it should be a very important one. Any figure needs to be designed and it should be done well.. this design cost should be factored into the finished sale price of a figure along with the price of parts and the print. Obviously the cost is shared out over an amount dependent on the quantity of figures printed. Digital printing presses cost different amounts and so do the consumables so better printer and better finish means higher cost (probably) although the digital printing process means that the amount of colours used probably doesn't have an effect on the cost to print as it works similar to an inkjet printer. Pad printing is done differently so every colour in a particular place means a new plate... that way a 3 colour print would cost half that of a 6 colour print to produce, although you still have to factor in the cost of the parts etc. Also, not all pad printers are going to charge you the same price for that service. As with any area of printing some printers will charge a premium for their service but you would hope that the cost would be reflected in the final product. Figures from Christo and Phoenix Customs have incredibly sharp and detailed print and you've probably got more chance of receiving a figure from Lego with any slight misalignment than you have from them. In fact I've never heard of Christo or Phoenix sending a figure that isn't perfect. There's also now the addition of custom moulded pieces whether through injection moulding of high definition 3D printing which are then dyed to the correct colour (which should be cheaper than injection moulding but still give an excellent finish). You then have to factor in good old collectibility into the mix. Christo now limits all new figures to 40 pieces. So collectors want them as the after market prices are ridiculous. That way he gets to set a price for each figure if you order direct from him (all figures are one set price). I've bought figures from LeyileBrick which were pad printed on genuine Lego in China for around £20. I'm going to say that pad printing services in China are very inexpensive allowing the figures to be done in large quantities to be sold at very competitive prices. The quality is excellent. But I can then also see where the Phoenix figure of Episode VII Luke Skywalker was closer to £60. Pad printed onto the torso, legs and head with chrome hand and hairpiece dyed into a non-production colour by another customiser. You really get to see the quality of a figure when the customiser adds another colour just for facial expression lines etc. A lot of people don't go to that trouble. The cost stays a little lower but you miss out on some of the finer detail. The collectibility factor really comes into focus when you have something like Christo's original First Avenger Captain America figure. From and side leg printing, arm printing, from and back torso printing and head print with side printing for the wing flashes... very collectible figure nowadays and sells for around $150. Phoenix Customs is producing his version now and it blows the Christo out of the water with an injection moulded helmet piece which has the wing flashes printed along with a superbly designed figure throughout. That figure is less than half the price of the Christo. I've recently sold some Christo figures for up to $500 each. There are people who will pay that. It's ridiculous but true.
  21. I'm assuming 405 is the Injustice Gods Among Us series although I'm not too sure about that particular design. I've seen Damian Wayne as Batman from a comic and he wore an overcoat with upturned collars so I'm assuming this is meant to represent that.
