Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
Robianco replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
Well my SY210 set arrived within 2 weeks of me ordering it but unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world! When I ge back I'll be making an order for a few things so anyone interested can let me know. -
Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

They've been around for about a year now I think... -
As I had Aquaman already and, like you, had the Scuba head from the Penguin set and the full Bats figure from the Grodd set I just BL'd Black Manta and ordered Scuba Robin as part of an order from Bricks and Pieces to the UK.

If you can wait until I'm back in the UK in a couple of weeks I'll be making an order so I can add things as needed and send them out to you. -
Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?

I recently got a new Superman set but the legs were still tapered although the torsos were rounded and the print was excellent. I've got a feeling some of the Batman waves still have tapered toes. -
The unaltered editions, to me, are the original theatrical releases. I got to see Empire and Jedi at the cinema when I was a kid so they're what I base 'original' on... Star Wars was a few years before I could go but I think a vhs I have was from way back... The despecialised actually use an original print of SW for part of its release.

If J2G isn't pulling our pud for April, and he's über reliable, then I'm really looking forward to that set... But also with a tinge of disappointment as a huge OT set should maybe look towards Cloud City... But hey ho.

A thing of beauty! Cue mass meltdown from some quarters.... ;)

I've got VHS of the original three somewhere in my parents I think. The despecialised editions are outstanding in their quality of the original theatricals and there was a 6 disc DVD set a few years ago where the bonus disc for each film was the theatrical release. I think I also had laserdisc rips of them at one point.

Well I had confirmation on my tracking that it left China a few days ago for my SY210 set. After seeing Digger318's review I'm really looking forward to it arriving. The print and design looks spot on so once I've added a legit head, cowl and cape alone with legs and arms it'll be 99.99% perfect from the front with just a change in the print colour for one section on the back to gold instead of silver (which will be covered by the cape anyway). I'm really impressed with how they've handled that figure... It's something we've been missing for a long time and I couldn't be happier with how we've now got it. SY have now done a really good job in recreating the SDCC figures... I genuinely don't think it'll be long before they produce a Spiderwoman. They've only just done Phoenix, 2011 and 2014 Bats and the Collector as well as redoing their older Superman set with near perfect torsos for Black Suit Supes and Bizarro... and Green Arrow isn't that long ago. I can see them doing the symbiote Spiderman and Spiderwoman in either a figure wave or a vehicle wave pretty soon. -

Maybe not a big deal to WAers but I did manage to pick up a Milano for $70 from Big W in Mirrabooka. That's close to half the UK price so I was happy. If I find a Hydra Fortress for around $70 with reductions of be tempted to take one of those home to the UK too! -
They're a bit of a pain to get hold of them... or they used to be as they were only shared on a private torrent tracker. I'm not even sure I can remember where I got mine but they were a real labour of love for a fan group who wanted to put the original releases out at a quality to rival the blu rays available of the butchered versions. I can always try and help share them to those that would like them. They're around 7GB each film though.

The Despecialised Editions are just the theatrical releases in the best quality available. In the original theatrical release Han made the shot first and killed Greedo. Lucas then made the amendment to make it a 'self defence' shot for later DVD releases. Some of the other amendments such as Jabba being in Mos Eisley, while absolutely terrible, are more forgivable as he was originally meant to be there but Lucas couldn't make it work at the time but adding Greedo's shot was just superfluous rubbish to soften Han's character. I like him as someone who will happily kill for his own survival so I'm standing by the theatrical releases.

If you want minifig scale rather than system scale then the AT-AT isn't minifig scale. The 9492/9493 X-Wing and TIE were minifig scale as is the new Slave 1... the Snowspeeder is pretty much minifig scale too.

I actually think Yularen is quite a good figure to get. The protocol droids are relatively nice as colour variations but having a senior member of the Imperial Fleet and someone who appeared in the OT as well as TCW is quite a nice figure to have, however obscure. Better than a slight variation of an existing character, for me anyway.
-
Of course Han shot first. Greedo's shot wasn't added until much later. Get hold of the Despecialised Editions of the OT as they're Bluray quality rips of the theatrical releases.

I'm assuming as it's a response to my comment I'm one of those to be considered emotionally fragile? Really? And asking people not to hate you, repeatedly, is considered emotionally secure? I really don't care whether you hate Disney or not. I don't care what the possible reasons for it are either. There was nothing emotional about my response at all. Time will tell whether you have anything to add to the conversation... if you just continue with 'I hate Disney' then it'll get old very fast. I'm not interested in dragging this on any further so I'll just ignore any future 'it's crap because it's Disney' comments but I'll also happily engage in conversation with you if you do happen to venture from the mantra.
-
I wasn't hating on you... if anything I might question your age. I would hope that on a forum with a minimum age of 18 someone might be able to offer up an opinion backed with a valid reason. I don't consider 'I just don't like Disney' as a valid reason, at least not without one or two reasons why they don't actually like Disney or why they feel they're not the right people to take SW forward. 'I just don't' is the reason my five year old gives me for not wanting to eat certain vegetables. It's basically trolling, to me. It adds nothing to the conversation other than to provoke a reaction which I've unfortunately fallen for.
-
Until the films come out and we have something to actually judge can I ask why people 'just don't like Disney'? 'I just don't' isn't a good enough reason or a particularly good argument for or against something. Lucas has pretty much buggered up SW. He made three terrible prequels containing some of the worst character development I've ever seen and somehow managed to coax some extremely wooden performances from normally decent actors. Lucas also did his best to ruin the OT by modifying it to his 'original vision'. Isn't Disney at least looking to release the original theatrical releases of the OT? That's far more than most have done in retaining their legacy. Lucas danced on the EU with the ridiculous and leaden introduction of little Boba without any care for his EU background. If half the written EU was great but half wasn't then why pussyfoot around it? Just shelve it for now and introduce the stuff worth keeping as and when it's needed... As someone said... It's a fictional universe... It's still there so take what you need. I personally don't care about the myriad of Sith fighting styles someone has made up in a book or whether Maul was chosen for his aggression while being a generally weak force user... Great if you do but it's not important to me. I think Disney's success or failure as custodians of the SW universe will be down to their cinematic releases and any future canon material. And let's not go down the 'Mickey Mouse will be Darth Vader' route either!

Wasn't Dr Doom also in the Future Foundation? Might work for the black and white? -

Tom Zhou at MRF does tend to list things very quickly to get the early orders but he'll take the delivery time to the wire. I've never had an order not arrive though so he's very reliable. I'm hoping the SY208 set shows up soon so I can order several sets at once! I'm sure Decool are still in the game but they're always second best to SY for me! -

I think the new Harley will look great and them not using the new CMF pigtail hair is down to maybe using it on a future release... I'll be respraying one anyway. It would have been nice for them to do Bizarra and Greenzarro figures although they may come in the future. The length of the waist sash on the leg for Dr Strange gives me the impression they've used a Penzore or Pop design rather than the MRM (which is the best version) but who knows... They may have modified a design themselves or made a new one. Having Mjjolnir in silver and a good helmet for Thor will be nice... We don't all have Agoodfella's skills with a dremmel. I'm also interested in whether they've copied PCB's or Lego's Collector... PCB has darker rings round the eyes which is closer to Del Toro so maybe that what SY have tried to do. -

Same here... I've got the MRM Dr Strange already and the Batzarro as well as the PCB Collector. The helmet for Thor is welcome though... I wonder how close it is to Agoodfella's version?
