  1. On the U.S. website, I've seen products return after having been listed as 'sold out'. So, 'sold out' is not necessarily synonymous with 'retired'.
  2. Well, what you are proposing then is an infomercial. Because even the most obscure cable TV program has to have enough viewers to attract revenue generating sponsors. Unless, of course, it's an infomercial.
  3. I have no problem with another haunted house type situation. A building in another product line/theme that is easily converted to a modular building. I bought two HH to do just that.
  4. I'm building 10240. The stickers are so big that, if my roof ever springs a leak, I can use them as a tarp.
  5. Yep. Another modular is needed. Fast. I'm building 10240.....X wing. I must be out of my mind. I know better than to buy a set with this many Technic parts. If I wanted something with this many pins, I'd learn how to sew. Please, TLG, I'm need a modular.
  6. A lego reality based TV show reminds me of a skit from Saturday night live back in the mid to late 70s. Gilda Radner opened a scotch tape store at the mall. A commentary, and a funny one at that, of having too narrow of a target market. I can't imagine a lego reality show drawing anywhere near the ratings it would need to survive.
  7. I can do without a Ghostbusters intrusion on the modular building theme. Besides, every GB HQ that I've seen resembles the FB a bit too much. The museum would be a great addition. And since the modular line is aimed primarily at AFOLs, it would be nice to see a large piece count that would satisfy those who are looking for an impressive building and those looking for 'playability'. But, I'm sure the accountants at TLG have a formula that will keep the piece count in the low 2,000 range.
  8. Not to worry, it's an inexpensive addiction. :-)
  9. I bought the super star destroyer but never even opened the box. It's been sitting around a while. Grey, grey, grey is right. It reminds me on a carp that's in the lake behind my house. I've got R2D2, the Death Star and Jabbas palace. I've tried to stay away from sets that are mostly grey. I thought about the sand crawler, but way too many pieces are devoted to the treads. Not wanting to get too off topic, just discussing alternatives to the modular series since lego has not announced the next modular and it appears Modulars will be an annual event. Got to find something to fill the void.
  10. Ordered to the Apple Store at the mall by my wife to replace my iPad. After determining I was not going to stand in line with members of the apple cult to spend $1000, I headed to the lego store. They had PC, PS and PR in stock. They said they still get a couple of TH from time to time. I don't know what that means, but they wouldnt use the 'R' word (that being 'retired'). Not wanting to leave empty handed, I bought a few of the small seasonal sets and a Star Wars 10140. Given the thought and effort Lego puts into The SW theme, I may have to become a SW fan. I bought the boxed set of six SW DVDs from Amazon and will start watching them. Btw, nothing at store level on the next modular. Apparently, TLG has done a great job of plugging leaks. I have to say the Lego store is always so clean, well organized and friendly. I spent $4.23 at Starbucks, $22.46 on socks at JC Penny and $256 at Lego. I guess I'll spin it to my wife by telling her I saved $700 by leaving the Apple Store line and not buying anything there. I'm sure that'll work, eh?
  11. Thanks for being even more cynical than me! :-) At least you didn't play the 'investment' card.
  12. From looking at pictures of classic train stations, seems like many of them have large, multi story, open interiors. If I start an MOC, I'd almost need a 64 study wide platform to work with. I've expanded TH to 64 wide and GE to 96 wide. I've got a lot of bricks left over, especially the tan/light yellow ones, from GE. Maybe I'll put a couple of my left over plates together and see what happens. I've got an extra PC that I can open up for arches, windows etc. You've got me thinking...........
  13. I would say a modular train station highlighting the primary street facing portions of the terminal would be welcomed. I think what's behind the building, as far as tracks, trains, etc, could/should largely be left to MOC and the individual train enthusiasts creativity. I love some of the old, restored train stations in the USA.
  14. If I needed GE or TH, and had an opportunity of buying them at regular retail price, I'd go ahead and do it. All signs point to retirement. Could a classic train station be handled in the same way Lego handled the Imperial Hotel in the archetecture series? That is, you didn't get the entire hotel, just the landmark, classic portion of it.
  15. I have to walk by the American Girl store as I go into the mall. What a success! Long lines, always. People have driven for hours to get there and actually make a weekend trip out of it. Actually, a modular toy store based on American Girl would probably be a huge seller. And Jamie has the skills to make it happen.
  16. It's a great idea. But, the world of Modulars seems to be torn between building an adult oriented city (where your idea would be great) and those who want to duplicate their little sisters doll house (PR and probably the rumored detective agency.....a building way down the list of my priorities). Anyway, great idea. But as long as Jamie the designer is in control, you're more likely to get an American Girl store theme than you are a railway station.
  17. I didn't want one, but I called anyway and was also told it was no longer available. There really isn't a need to have this revolving door of status when a product is near the end of the line. In my opinion, once released, it's either in stock, back ordered or retired.
  18. Welcome! Warning....the Modulars are as much an addiction as they are a hobby! Enjoy!
  19. Yep, when necessary, the Swiss will shoot at you. Just go back and look at what happened to some pilots (from both sides) in WWII. Anyway, enjoy. Sounds like a great experience for a young person. Make the most of it!
  20. Will the archetecture line survive another two years? It's my favorite, but it just doesn't seem to have a broad enough appeal. Plus, if all we get for next year are the two rather lack luster offerings that have been discussed in detail, it appears that TLG is losing interest in this line, too. Your thoughts?
  21. Is there a certain amount of unreliability, inaccuracy or whatever on lego.com as far as a couple of subjects are concerned? The reason I ask is because I see questions like 'which set should I buy' or 'how big is the set'? If I'm trying to decide what set to buy, I simply pull up the instructions. They seem to give a complete picture of what you're getting yourself into. Same with questions concerning dimensions. I've always found those listed on lego.com to be accurate. I know subjects like inventory control or retired sets can be 'iffy', but lego.com seems to make a lot of things perfectly clear. Just askin', no offense intended. .....
  22. Procrastination.......still intending on finding a picture hosting site. I'm also wrapping up construction of a Mini Cooper dealership. Had to build one after accumulating four poly bag mini coopers. It's two stories, 64 studs wide with a showroom and a service department. As most of my stuff, it seriously lacking as far as interior goes.
  23. It's not solely about taller or wider. It's about proportions. I have a GE that's on 6 32 x 32 base plates and is five stories tall. It works. My town hall is the same height as designed by lego, but with three extra windows on each side, each level. I think the TH and GE are too square in their original form and beg for expansion. Not so much for GG, PS or PR.
  24. Well, to take it to a Monty Python level, we're not really talking about turkey per se, but more about the rather large whole bird.
  25. Ate at them? I can't even pronounce them.
