  1. Agreed. It's USC label combined with the lack of "specialness" that is causing most of the complaints. What would have happened if the designer behind the upcoming Batcave set had been asked to design a $250 Hoth set?
  2. I share everyone's disappointment with this set. The Ewok Village was so good, and this doesn't measure up. • I would have traded fewer elements for better scaled elements. For example, one accurately scaled turret instead of two 4-wide ones. • It's time for Lego to update the snowspeeder design. They've been using the same design for about 10 years, and it's not that accurate. The X-wing (TFA) and Tie Fighters have been improved significantly during that time (including new cockpit pieces). • Has Lego seen the DF.9 turrets in the movie??? Lego's versions aren't large enough and aren't designed accurately. • Like the Ewok Village, Kenner designs offered several possible paths forward on this. • It seems Lego opted to make this set more for kids than the adult collector. Flick fire missiles and all. But doesn't ESB have greater loyalty among the adult demographic? As someone has already noted, you can buy the separate sets that make up this set for a lower price.
  3. Liking these sets. But someone explain to me why every Lego aircraft needs to have a dark grey underside.
  4. I would very much like to see a re-release of that set using the new girder parts.
  5. Nice work. Excellent amount of detail in a 4-wide design!
  6. For the past decade, Lego has been doing an excellent job with the city fire sets. Compared with the sets of the Town Jr. era, the minifig design and set design are much improved. That said, it does feel like Lego has hit a plateau with year’s releases. We're seeing lots of re-done ideas with the new fire station being an almost exact copy of the previous one. Here are five practical things Lego can do to improve and freshen the lineup. 1. Update the main fire minifig. With Lego’s renewed emphasis on minifig design in other sets, this is an obvious area for improvement. The space-era air tanks aren’t accurate (they should be one cylinder instead of two). Helmets need printing . Most helmets should be black and not white (we have too many chiefs). Lego should add other helmet colors (yellow, blue, red, white) to indicate rank. It would also be nice to see new mini fig designs to the lineup. We’ve long been waiting for a hazmat firefighter, a heat proximity suit, and an accurate paramedic. 2. Expand accessories. Somehow, police sets get a lot of new parts but fire sets haven't. A properly sized and colored axe and Jaws of Life are a couple of the items missing from Lego’s parts offerings. 3. Redesign the stretcher. The current design is from World War I. A stokes basket is long overdue. 4. Expand the sizes and colors of compartment pieces. The 1x4x4 lift door needs 3-high and 2-high variants. It also needs to be available in red (most important) and lime green. 5. Put the same thought into the fire sets that you’re doing with the Speed Champions sets. More research about the vehicles, more realism and more detail. Yes. you’ll need some simpler sets with lower price points for kids, but include some things AFOLs might buy, too. How about an update of set 1656, or a life flight helicopter (please don’t make the underside dark grey) or a hazmat truck ? Thank you! -Steven (my MOCs)
  7. Agree completely with you on these. And, yes, a snowcat would be excellent. http://store.mohawkl...0_marquee-w.jpg
  8. Couple of additional thoughts on the fire sets. • Looks like we might get a new compartment piece behind the cab of the larger fire truck in the fire station. If so, this could be good. • On 60116 and 60108, I can't figure out Lego's obsession with making all the aircraft have dark grey undersides. It would be nice to get those parts in different colors. • I'll be curious to see if we get a new rescue diver torso in 60106. That might make that set more valuable. Things are so much better than the Town Jr era of the early 2000s. That said, this year's fire trucks, fire station, helicopter, ATV etc are recycled designs and feel uninspired.
  9. Actually, Lego has had a history of sets that involve accidents. They just don't make them graphic. Skateboarding accident. http://ecx.images-am...CL._SL1500_.jpg Bike accident (see below). http://brickset.com/sets/4431-1/Ambulance Boat fire. http://brickset.com/...005-1/Fire-Boat The other option would be to just make the "jaws of life" part of the accessories on an upcoming fire engine. And they could release a collectible minifig with the proper air tank, helmet with printing, and jaws of life. -Steven
  10. Very nice!
  11. I agree that these are significant holes in Lego's fire lineup. (Added links to your suggestions.) We're also missing a stokes basket. It's a nitpick, but the firefighter air tanks really should be one cylinder instead of two. And the helmets should be primarily black (at least in the US) with printing on the helmets. Having all the helmets as white means they're all fire chiefs. I would strongly encourage the Lego fire designers (and I respect Lego's current city designers a lot) to engage with the adult Lego fire community and/or do additional research on firefighting. -Steven http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=15136
  12. Agreed. But they need to make it in lime green or blue with no printing.
  13. Agreed. Like this rig http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/420625?
  14. Some thoughts on the fire sets (as a Lego fire enthusiast). Overall, the lineup is good but not exceptional. I realize these sets are targeted at kids, but I think Lego slightly underperformed on some things. 60109 Fire Boat I like this set. Nice to see Lego using a larger hull piece (more realistic) for the fireboat. It would be nice to be able to extend the length of the boat. Would it make more sense to have the shack on fire instead of the lighthouse? Grade A- 60110 Fire Station This set is almost exactly like 60004 (which I liked) but not quite as good. It does look like we get roll-up garage doors. The revolving door seems more at home in a hotel than a fire station. And, while I get the playability, I cannot figure out why there's a fire pole outside the front of the fire station. I do miss the baseplates that came with fire stations in the 80s and 90s. Water guns are just silly. Really, Lego??? Grade B- 60111 Fire Utility Truck I like the idea of a Unimog fire truck, but I don't get the snorkel trailer. It doesn't make any sense (this unit is for the forest?), and the boom doesn't reach high enough to be of any practical purpose. If it were towing a bulldozer instead you'd have a MUCH better set! http://brickset.com/...Evacuation-Team Grade B 60112 Fire Engine It's nice to see a hook-and-ladder truck back in the lineup. The design is fairly good. Unfortunately, the thing is designed backwards!!! The ladder should be on the front of the trailer and not the back. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/51537 I'd also like to see them make the ladder so it can extend. Grade B- (grade reduced for being backwards) What's missing Lego missed a couple of opportunities with this lineup. I'd like to see them • Re-release the 1x4x4 lift doors in red. They're going for about $20 each on Bricklink. • Consider a hazmat team. It's becoming common in the United States to have this as part of the standard fire department. http://farm4.static...._ea315bd0be.jpg • Release a 2x6x2 windscreen that's flat and not sloped. This has been a huge missing piece for fire apparatus builders. Also, it looks like we finally get a yellow fire helmet in the Mixels sets. Yay! -Steven http://www.brickshel...ery.cgi?f=15136
  15. Here are some ideas for these themes that might be nice. Dozer Unit http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/414182 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1004786 Hazmat team http://www.klickypedia.com/sets/3180-hazmat-crew/ Life Flight helicopter http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/wtxl.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/c/67/c674f546-2430-11e2-ae83-0019bb30f31a/509288715c689.image.jpg The line of town vehicles that were released this year (snowplow truck, racing bike transporter, etc) have been excellent in their greater attention to realism and detail. It would be awesome if Lego could give us a couple of fire/rescue sets with the same quality.
  16. Awesome! I really like these. Can't say I'm a fan of the cut windscreen. That said, I agree Lego definitely needs a better selection of six-wide windscreens. In addition to the one you mention, a 2 x 6 x 2 non-sloping one would be good. Similar to this http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=4594 .
  17. I'm hearing lots of rumors about a Hoth playset and a UCS-scaled AT-AT. A 10188-scaled Hoth set could be awesome. Something like this http://galeriemoreau.deviantart.com/art/Hoth-Echo-Rebel-Base-139770946 One thing we haven't seen from Lego is a properly scaled Hoth defense turret. http://battlefront.wikia.com/wiki/Hoth_Defense_Turret As for the AT-AT, please Lego make it a quality build like the one on Lego Ideas. I'm concerned Lego will go for a cheaper house-of-plates style like the current AT-AT and the Sandcrawler. That building style just looks awful and, in my opinion, ruined the Sandcrawler set. The UCS Imperial Shuttle building style was so much better. I realize cost is a concern, but if you're going to do it and pitch it to the serious collector, then do it well.
  18. The new ship looks very good to me. I was a huge fan of the original divers sets and would welcome a return of that theme if it's well designed. In particular, I think http://brickset.com/...Deep-Sea-Refuge is one of the better town sets ever. With the exception of the Pirates theme, Lego ships in general tend to be significantly undersized. To me, a larger hull size is a much better scale, provides more customization options, and offers more playability. My only concern is the length of the ship. One problem with previous Lego town ship hulls (post 1979) is the inability to customize the length. If Lego can address that concern, they'll have a winner.
  19. Thanks, everyone, for the comments! Here are the rescue vehicles that go with it http://mocpages.com/mocs.php?id=291
  20. I've uploaded photos of my Fire Station. It takes up 2 XLarge baseplates and uses more than 2500 of Lego's new brick pieces. Photos can be found here. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/385007 The design is roughly based on a fire station in the city of College Station. Let me know what you think. -Steven
  21. Agree with Brickmamba. Good improvement over the last Lego Sandcrawler, but disappointing compared with the CUSSOO one. House-of-plates design doesn't look like an adult collector model. Not as aesthetically pleasing or as sturdy. For a set that's advertised as UCS (and at that price point), Lego needs to be delivering brick-built designs and not house-of-plates.
  22. This year's lineup has been great, but the Sandcrawler is disappointing. It's better than Lego's previous version, but compared with the CUUSOO winner and the rumored $300+ price point I had hoped for a lot more. House-of-plates construction never looks as good or holds together as well as bricks. http://www.geeky-gad...Sandcrawler.jpg I'm wondering if Lego was concerned about having too many high-priced sets and scaled back on this one. It's a safe bet this plate-based construction is less expensive than the brick built style in CUUSOO. For me, I'd prefer to pay more to get a more complete looking design.
  23. Airport Fire truck could be awesome - if it's done in lime. http://r2.cygnuspub.com/files/cygnus/image/FHC/2011/JAN/600x400/11496.jpg_10464483.jpg Why hasn't Lego released 1x3x1doors in lime??? http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3822 We need these in lime, too. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6155 Fingers crossed.
  24. Agree completely. The city theme now rivals the town lineup of the early 1990s. The new Star Wars sets look better than they ever have. Vikings are awesome! Great exclusives (Boeing, Star Wars UCS, Advent calendar, chess sets). And juniorization is at a minimum. Keep up the great work, Lego! Let's hope profits stay up so Lego will stay on this course. -Steven
  25. You mentioned the brand of sticker paper as Avery (the same kind I use.) But where do you get the lamination? Is it available at Target or Office Depot? -Steven
