The dark brown and olive green look stunning, as others have mentioned. Love the texture of the base and the way it gradually increases in height. The wargs look good and the scene is well decorated. Great work!

Love the stonework on the building, and the landscape is incredible. Another great mixture of olive and sand green with dark tan, it looks very natural. Loads of lovely little details such as the mailbox, lamp and croissant as a bird, very nicely done. As others have said a few windows wouldn't have hurt, and there's some gaps in the path at the front, but those are minor things in what is otherwise a fantastic MOC.

Wow! Stunning temple! So many great parts usages, from the roller blades, to the swords as candle holders, to the Ninjago spinners, everything adds so much to this MOC. The story was fantastic too, really "believable" (for want of a better word in a fantasy creation) characters, you certainly made them come alive. And I totally love those temple guards, the dark blue Gondor torso with the eagle headdress is a great combo Also the mosaic on the floor is brilliant, all in all a masterpiece of a MOC!

Another very strong build from you David! Love the mill design, being raised up it should reduce the chance of dampness spoiling the grain. Colour choices are great, medium dark flesh, dark tan and olive green go well together. The base is really nice, and a nice change from the usual black borders we see. The story is a good addition too, although I'd suggest that the lord could probably press Yngvi into his service if he really wanted him to join. The flesh minifigs go really well with this colour palette too.

As others have mentioned, the lighting here is top notch - the windows, the fireplace, it all adds atmosphere we don't normally see in LEGO MOCs, and adds a lot of depth especially for an interior build. The architecture is basic, but it doesn't really matter, because all the little details make the scene come alive - the books, the ladder, the chairs - and the story helps tie it all together. Great work!

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Basiliscus replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very interesting backstory @MaasEffekt! A great potential point of conflict between a Gaia like faction, and the rest of us litter lout "strollers"! And welcome to Varlyrio! ******** I've not had a great week LEGO wise - slipped a disc in my back last week for which the pain is just subsiding, and now battling with an ear infection. Hopefully get a bit more time towards the end of this week, as we really need to get some freebuilds out or we are going to be left behind! -
A load of really nice details, and a great story to boot! Fantastic work.

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 10: Royal Dance
Basiliscus replied to LittleJohn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Another really great entry to the collaboration! Loads to like, such as the panels for the red carpet to slightly raise them above the floor, the tapestries, the minifig posing, all done very nicely. I'm also honoured to have given you the inspiration for the floor mosaic, it's a shame we don't get a better shot of it. You could always take one and out it up on Brickbuilt if you haven't taken the MOC apart yet. Fun fact: having done a few mosaics now, I noticed that trans clear and regular cheese slopes have a slightly different thickness, which means that translating from one to the other can pose a challenge.- 19 replies

Certainly sounds like someone not to be messed with! Lovely story, love the little touches for example the tower raising the oars, adds a lot of depth. Others have pointed out that the builds are a little basic, but it's your first GoH entry so plenty of time to develop your building style as time progresses. Hope to see more of the chaos left in Captain Mesabi's wake!

Really nice piles of snow either side of the road, and love the way you've made the horse looked packed. Nice work!

Welcome to Varlyrio @Mesabi! You made the right choice. I like the character and backstory, you'll fit in well here. -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 9: Mophet - guardtower
Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wonderful architectural details on the tower. I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing tan and dark orange together. Like the partially paved road leading up to the tower, certainly helps to keep it interesting! -
Lovely colour scheme and overall vibe, certainly something different than what we are used to!

Positively excited! -
Lovely colour choices, I always keep olive and sand green separate but you've integrated them together well here. Love the base idea, and the trees are nice too. Great little MOC!
-
Great little MOC! Lovely parts usage on the cart and you've done a great job of integrating the light yellow, it's a nice addition to the landscape.

Judging by challenge entries and free builds I'd say Varlyrio!

EB LEGO Star Wars Forum: Factions (coming this fall)
Basiliscus replied to goatman461's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Excellent! As someone who has seen Star Wars, but only has a passing interest in the lore, would you mind explaining what the factions are in the reveal above? A quick Google suggests that, from left to right, they are: Havoc squad (republic special forces) Imperials of some kind ?? ?? (some kind of galactic republic faction maybe?) Black Sun Confederation of Independent Systems It'd be good to be able to read a bit of the lore to get me in the mood for the rules being released! -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 7: Swineherding in Wadi Khinz'ir
Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
I think that in the last few years the general standard of LEGO building has advanced dramatically - so much so that certain techniques (such as having a flat, single colour studs up ground) have become almost obsolete by virtue of the fact they no longer look realistic. I don't think the other MOC was that bad, just that in this day and age it makes the MOC look somewhat dated. Just my thoughts!- 20 replies

EB LEGO Star Wars Forum: Factions (coming this fall)

Given the lack of Andromeda's gate action, I might have to join this to sate my sci-fi urges for the moment. Would be good to get a rough timescale of when this might drop. -

Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely little MOC! I take full credit for the improved ground design Love the mixture of dark orange and tan, looks just like I'd imagine a dried out river bed in Kaliphlin. Great work!- 20 replies

Basiliscus replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
A wise choice! Varlyrio would welcome you with open arms. All you need to do is create a sigfig to join up, everything else flows from there. Hope to see you in the Varlyrio thread soon! -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 6: Ha'ri the potter
Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Another nice slice of Kaliphlin here, lovely colours and presentation. Others have mentioned the simple ground, I don't quite understand your response about how the city is underdeveloped so this results in more studs up? I still think that mixing in other colours such as dark bley, olive green or tan into the dark tan would make it look less LEGO like and more natural. It's a lovely MOC though, well done!- 14 replies

Thanks for that @Peppermint_M! I didn't know you could do that, I'll give that a try as that seems the most likely answer. Thanks for that. I was aware of Flickr's resizing capability, but in this case the picture was hosted on Brickshelf so I couldn't use this option.
