I agree with @Paperballpark that it's inevitable that a service like Flickr will need paying for in the end. In many ways it's perfect for AFOLs to share MOCs - automatic image resizing for forum links, ability to upload full resolution images, on image notes (to highlight areas of a MOC), groups and comments. On the downside the mobile app (on Android anyway) is atrocious and some of the site is a bit dated. I don't mind paying the $50 for Pro as long as the community doesn't abandon the site en mass, because if that happens there will be little Flickr community (and I've already seen a big reduction in the community over the last few years) and therefore little point in staying there. Hearing what everyone else is going to do will be a big part of my decision as to whether to stay or not.

Some great parts usage and love the rather unusual design.

I know GoH Book III is in full swing, but is there any update on this? Reading about the coding woes I am not exactly a web developer but I am proficient with D3.js for work (and HTML, CSS and general Javascript) so could possibly offer a hand here if required. Don't want to step on any toes but let me know if there's anything I can help with in the mean time. I've been playing a lot of Endless Space 2 recently and quite fancy a wee space RPG.

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 4: Mophet - stable
Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely architecture and colour choices, feels like a vibrant part of Kaliphlin! The narrow streets and compact feel adds to the sense of realism (if you know what I mean ), and overall this is a smashing MOC! -
Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Basiliscus replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
@soccerkid6: looks amazing, love the dark brown base. Interesting to see behind the scenes like that too! -
The Expanse was an excellent sci-fi show, I really enjoyed it. Your rendition of the MCRN Donnager is amazing, in particular I love the shot of it fighting the stealth ships. I'd love to see any other ships from the show you fancy building.

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Basiliscus replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
So, with Kaliphlin overturning their free build deficit quite aggressively, how are the Varlyrio members getting on with free builds? I'm planning on advancing the Conzaga family storyline with three scenes (three separate builds), and I've got a number of things I can use here and also for the CCC. It'd be great to hear how others are getting on! -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 3: Spice Merchant
Basiliscus replied to LittleJohn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Really nice job on this one. Just shows you don't always need to build big to build well. So many nice parts being used for spices and the surrounding decor is well done. Love that you presented it as an all LEGO scene too, makes it feel like a real slice of Kaliphlin.- 20 replies

Kaliphlin at Work - Day 2: Qarkyr Box Gardens
Basiliscus replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great job on the plants and flowers, they look very realistic. Love the all LEGO shots, particularly through the pillars, gives a nice sense of perspective. This Kaliphlin at work thing is not too bad at all! -
I like the quill holder and the parchment built into the table to make it seem flat, those are nice touches. Personally I feel the tan floor and walls looks a bit odd, I think I'd have chosen another colour for the floor to give the room a bit more variety. I really liked reading the letters, they were well written. Nice work!

Book III - Challenge I: A Time to Rebuild
Basiliscus replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Whilst the scoring system still feels a bit of a mystery, I think given the reasons that @Rogue Angel gave above this could be a good thing. I like the description that free builds are mostly for fun and people shouldn't obsess over the points they are awarded - that's a good philosophy. It's important to remember this is only a game and ultimately the points don't mean as much as it might first feel like. We're all here to have fun and that's what matters! -
Kaliphlin at Work - Day 1: Mophet - Juz'albieta farm
Basiliscus replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice little slice of Kaliphlin you've got going in there! The aqueduct is nice, if a little deep to be realistic IMO, and the crops are simply designed but make a good effect overall. The dark tan patches on the house are well done and add some wear and tear to the building. Nice work! -
Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Basiliscus replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
@MaasEffekt: if you read the guild description for Varlyrio the western part of the island has a lot of non-human tribes similar to Nocturnus, so check that out if you want to keep a relatively dark vibe to your builds. -
Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Congratulations @narbilu, hope parenthood treats you well! My daughter is 3.5 years old now so this is me really just getting over the hard bit and getting a bit more time for my own hobbies! -
The Isle of Druidham [Avalonia Task III]
Basiliscus replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
So many really nice part usages, from the grill bricks as steps from the pier, to the grill tiles as windows, and the sideways headlight bricks as narrow windows. The overall design and aesthetic is really nice, and I can totally imagine this being a bit like Mont St Michel or something like that. The last shot with the annotations is a nice touch and I enjoyed seeing your thought process. Great work! -

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Nice costumes @mccoyed, cosplay isn't really my bag but you and the wife have clearly put in the effort! Shame you didn't dress up as a lionel, missed a trick there! Great to see we aren't lagging too far behind despite only having two challenge I entries! I presume the character introduction vignettes we all did were why we ended up with so many freebuild points, can you confirm that @Rogue Angel? I'm working on a set of freebuilds to advance the Conzaga family storyline, then hoping I can enter something from Varlyrio into the CCC when the categories are announced tomorrow. -
Thanks man, I wanted to try and make each vignette a small insight into each character, showing a bit of personality with the background. Made good progress on my next freebuild, hoping to have it up some time next week! Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for that!

Obviously the stand out piece is that amazing thatched roof, really great job on that. I'd love to see how you held them together so tightly, if you are willing to share it'd be well appreciated. Fantastic landscape too, I like the way you've used 2x2 L plates as foliage, never seen that before but it works well. Finally, the story you've concocted is great, enjoyed reading that and I can just imagine hundreds of grieving fathers, wives and children all across Historica dealing with similar feelings.

Avalonia Task 1 - Laelarielian Army & Crest
Basiliscus replied to en_zoo's topic in Guilds of Historica
Really nice work on the ruined wall, it looks very realistic. The soldiers you've made are nice too, the insectoid armour works really well here, although I've never been sure about those Brickforge nasal helms, I always feel they look too big for a minifig's head. The banner is well made and good choice on those shields -
Thanks! I had no idea about the Centarios, but I searched for them in the forum and a distant connection might be a nice plot twist... Ha! Originally I was going to make him my secondary character, but I decided to go for the more straight laced Mychel and make Bernaldo the family antagonist. I think it could be interesting for us to Cheers! I hope you can be more active too, I'm hoping to participate in all the challenges for Book III. Interestingly you've preempted my next free build storyline...

Thanks Henjin! Yeah if I had a little more time I'd have come up with something better for the curve, there's probably a solution that doesn't leave gaps (or as big gaps) but I didn't find it. Cheers for the kind words. I think it's a great technique, parts intensive but I already have a lot of light bluish grey plates and tiles, so it wasn't a problem in this case! Glad you spotted the Varlyrio colours in the base, I do like the white and gold, it's a nice choice.

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Basiliscus replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
@Wiltar: nice introduction and fig, love the idea of a mercenary company (I'm assuming by the name Sforza you've taken a large dose of inspiration from the Italian city states of the 14th - 16th centuries and their condottieri) in Varlyrio, seems like a perfect fit. Look forward to seeing more of your character's story.
