  1. I read the review after ordering it, but it certainly confirms the anticipation of building this set. Jaime did an outstanding job with the design on this one. Pricewise, it looks very good for just over 4,000 parts.
  2. Went to Toys R Us today. Indeed they are price gouging to the extreme. They had all of the new sets out, and all of them were marked up significantly. Here are some prices that I remember compared to what is on the S@H site: Batcave Break In----Lego 99.99 Toys R Us 124.99 Jokers Notorious Lowrider Lego 49.99 Toys R Us 64.99 Arkham Asylum Lego 149.99 Toys R Us 179.99 Lego Batman Movie minifigure Lego 3.99 Toys R Us 4.99 All other sets were marked up in similar fashion. I guess we can wait a couple of days for them to make it into the Lego store.
  3. If multiple parts are missing from multiple sets, I would inventory each set with the parts list at the back of the instructions just to be sure. It might be a little time consuming depending on the size of the set, but it indicate exactly which parts you have.
  4. No missing parts in my sets, and we have bought several dozen at least. Sometimes it will appear that something is missing, but it is usually either confusion over the color of part needed from the instructions, or I failed to completely empty the bag.
  5. Well, we finally saw it. It was a great movie, although there are a couple of puzzling issues I have with the plot. Spoilers ahead *********** First of all, why use the Death Star on Scarif? Not only did the archives have the plans to the DS, from the look of it there was a lot else there. It would be like blowing up your own Library of Congress. It seems like they would have been better off just sending a force to the ground to mop up or chasevany remaining rebel forces for the sake of preserving the archives. Then there was the ending. It was enjoyable, however the continuity between Rogue One and A New Hope seems puzzling. We end with Vader watching Leia's ship making the jump and in the very next movie, he is bearing down on them over Tatooine with a star destroyer. It would appear that Leia made poor choices if indeed Tatooine was the next stop. It would have taken some time for Vader to leave the inoperable rebel cruiser and get back to the star destroyer to begin his pursuit of Leia. Plus, he would have had to have known where they were going. So how did the imperials catch up then? Did Leia stop at a Sonic on the way in? Did she go somewhere else first such as Alderaan? Since they have the only copy of the Death Star plans, it seems like they themselves could have beamed them to another rebel source and/or transferred them to a safer location. That way, you have backups and the rebels can now start analyzing the plans. Continuing to Tatooine with them does not seem smart. I would have brought them to Yavin IV first and then gone off to look for Obi Wan. Regardless of what transpired between the two movies, I do not get how Vader knew where to find them and caught up with them so quickly.
  6. Looking forward to buying this one on Jan 1st. I will be at the Lego Store when it opens to ensure one that day. The only thing about January 1 release is it is somewhat of a bummer for teachers and students. By then, we will have had two weeks of down time, and for many of us, January 1 is the very last day of that down time. So, I have the rest of the day to build some of it before getting hurled back into the workweek the next day With that said, it is still probably better than ordering it and waiting a week or so for the set to get in and not even have New Years Day to do a little building. It seems like all of the sets that interest me either do no exist yet (looking at you, Saturn V) or release on Jan 1 like Assembly Square. The reviews I have seen so far give the impression that this is a nice build with lots of fun details. It is still a shame that the three buildings are not detachable from one another in the spirit of the Pet Shop. On the plus side, only the sides of the buildings at either end have no details. Even the backs have doors, windows, and even a balcony. It is nice to see details return to some of the lesser seen sides of the structures.
  7. There would also have to be an established definition of what exactly a minifigure is. If you go by Bricklink for example, things like the brickbuilt Star Wars B'Omarr monk, mouse droid, and Imperial Probe droids count as minifigures. Bigfigs and things like the statue in the Hobbit Dol Guldur set also qualify as a "minifigure". Skeletons in Castle Fantasy Era count while those in Lord of the Rings and Hobbit do not (having almost exactly the same part makeup). It would be interesting to see what Guinness would consider a Lego minifigure to be.
  8. Glad to see the diner finally make it. I remember voting for it a while back. It could be a successful project especially if the Fishing Store does well on release.
  9. Given that Guinness makes you jump through hoops to prove your record (justifiably so), a lot of people might be unwilling to go through the process even if they indeed have enough unique minifigs to break the record. To prove this particular record, you either have to hire a judge (expensive) to verify the collection or you yourself have to document all of the minifigs to prove the size and diversity of the collection. In this case, it would be massively time consuming and difficult. A few years ago, we made a word search puzzle in school that actually exceeded the size of the current record holder. When we found out what it would take in order to get it into Guinness, in particular the cost, we pretty much gave up on attaining official recognition and just had to accept that we had the largest puzzle, but few would ever know about it. I suspect this is possible with this record as some large collection holders are not going to want to go through the trouble and cost of attempting the title. So if someone does come forward to claim the spot, who really knows if that is actually the largest collection? Remember, there is always a bigger fish Also, could minifigs constructed and acquired through the BAM bins at the Lego store count towards the total? That would put the number of unique minifigs possible off the charts. It would be interested to see if you are limited to official Lego minifigs which appeared in a set or product or if you could add those purchased loosely at a BAM bin as well.
  10. I found the review to be entertaining. In fact, one of the things I always hope for in reviews is an honest impression of what is in the set. It is fun to see varying points of view regarding the same subject matter. Maybe it makes the world a more interesting place. Some of what was stated might go against majority opinion, but it was a fun read nevertheless. I got a good laugh at "Wolverine Batman", "Tooth Fairy Batman", "Hello Man", and others. Whoever provided the link, thank you! Again, it was a fresh perspective.
  11. After emerging from my Dark Ages, the Lord of the Rings sets came out. In order to collect the whole wave, you needed to get "Battle of Helm's Deep", which had a MRSP of 129.99. To this day, it is probably the best "castle" or fortress setup I have seen in recent years. It is a very fun build to watch it come together.
  12. My sons are still learning to take care of Lego. Actually, one is learning and the other we have given up on. We bought them nice sets in the last few years and they basically took everything apart and did not look after them. Some parts are chewed, more are lost, and others just sit around in a plastic bin. I painstakingly restored a classic X-wing fighter and a First Order TIE fighter. The parts have been bagged together and have been put away until I know the boys are ready for them. I almost completely recovered all of the parts for a Resistance Troop Transport, but one piece is missing. I know it is in the house somewhere, but it is nowhere to be found. Probably, I will Bricklink the lost part on the next order and then bag that set as well.
  13. The majority of parts that use this feature are round 1x1 plates and some minifig heads. There are a few others like spiders, but they are very uncommon.
  14. Wow, this is grand! I love the throwback to the look and feel of the sets of old. You know the NIMBY's would be having a fit over this!
  15. Best small set: Green Lantern vs Sinestro Best medium set: Fun in the Park Best large set: I do not own it, but probably the Disney Castle Best minifigure: Series 16: Hiker I really do not have a category for worst since I avoid pretty much anything that does not interest me.
  16. With the second wave of sets and the minifigs coming out on Jan 1, it appears that I may have to be at the Lego Store early for its opening on that day. I am hoping to purchase Arkham Asylum and maybe a couple of other sets/minifig packs that day. In addition to those sets, there is a whole lot more coming out Jan 1 in other lines, so I suspect there will be a lot of people there that morning. We went last year on New Year's at opening, and it was busy. Everyone in line knows exactly what they want and will make a beeline to the set(s). It is funny watching everyone look through the store windows plotting the course they are going to quickly take once they get in the store and probably deciding in their head which set to grab first. If I did wait until midnight the night before and placed an order, then by the time I got the stuff (assuming S&H does not crash), it would be the middle of the workweek and the holidays would be over. I hate having to compete with everyone else to rush into the store at opening, but I really want to start the build of Arkham Asylum on New Year's Day.
  17. It would be nice to see them finally in a set. They would obviously have to include transparent blue or white/clear to simulate water and ice. Then, you have the question of how many animals and which one(s) would they include with the set. It seems like you would want more than one type of animal to have options.
  18. It is a very nice corner modular and would be great as a stand in for the Cafe Corner for those of us who never acquired that one. I am not sure about the large "Soda" sign on top of the structure, otherwise I like the colors and details. A soda fountain seems like a good choice for a modular since they do bring back the feeling of days gone by. We still have several smaller towns not too far that have them.
  19. The first four sets are now available, at least on S&H in the States.
  20. That park is amazing! Time to log in to Lego Ideas......
  21. Great review! Hopefully someday I make it back to London. The PAB wall did not seem much larger than that of the typical store. I think downtown Disney in Orlando is still the largest I have encountered so far. What did you think of the PAB wall in the new store?
  22. Disclaimer: Not saying the upcoming Assembly Square is bad OK, not that I got that out of the way, THIS is what I wish it had been.
  23. That is a great setup. The barn on the right reminds me of the famous Mormon barn in the Tetons of Wyoming.
  24. In the past, there has been a one hour event before the normal Lego store openings the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It was once for the biggest spenders and had a lot of freebies and other deals. Last year, more "commonfolk" like me who did not spend more than four figures were also invited. It had the same exact benefits as the early VIP online and Lego Store deals, except you got to go in the store before regular opening and shop in a relatively uncrowded environment. This year, we have not heard anything about it. They might have phased it out altogether.
  25. You are not alone. It makes me think more of Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King's It. It made me finally break down to buy the Dimensions pack with the Joker and Harley since it might be a while before we get anything other than this new version.
