Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
With all of the ice cream parts out there, it certainly could be possible. Then again, hot dogs seem to be the staple food in the world of Lego. Perhaps some type of hot dog establishment sharing space with the ice cream parlour could work. -

Excellent colorful display! -
Nice review! I was fortunate enough to get this on the May the Fourth as a discount and really appreciate both the ship design and the minifigure selection.

LEGO Ideas Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wonder if this means they want to do Voltron, but are still trying to negotiate licensing, thus the delay and the deafening silence. So, I am expecting one of these scenarios: (1) Voltron gets licensing, and it alone is approved from the round, thus the long wait in an announcement (2) Voltron gets approved, along with one or more of the other entries. I too would like to see the Diner (and/or the Tram) make it. Then it would all be announced after Voltron is resolved. (3) Neither Voltron nor anything else gets approved, ala your plot twist. Cue the disappointment on all Brick sites. -
My biggest layout so far: 9 running trains

Excellent display, and a real incentive to start looking for that "forever home" with enough space for a big layout like this. -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
It would make sense since the last set was a train. Such a set will do well as long as the ability to buy the train remains. If it is a station, perhaps it is the North Pole Depot? -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
AFOLguy1970 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I cannot remember if it is earlier in this thread, but there were several people, including myself, who had missing parts in the set when it was released. There does not seem to be a pattern regarding which parts are missing. Mine was a 1x4 brick, either bley or dark bley. -

Looks great! It is good you had the vertical space for it. -

Incredible! This is in a class by itself. -
Looks great! The lighting really adds to it. Wish I was a little closer to Virginia to see it in person.

I just sent in a review to Lego regarding one of the battle packs and pretty much cited the blaster stud shooters as the only negative in the set. Perhaps if Lego put in both stud shooters and the realistic blasters, there could be a happy medium? That would mean including only four more parts--does not seem like too much to ask.

21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V (LEGO Ideas)
AFOLguy1970 replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I completely agree with this. It would have a very limited market in the absence of the Saturn V. Probably a lot of us who bought the rocket would not feel the need to purchase the launch tower as nice as it probably would be. It would have to be fairly large and costly given the scale of the rocket. With that said, I think there are plenty of space related projects that could be feasible such as space stations, unmanned spacecraft, other rockets, etc. The Saturn V and Mars Rover projects are obviously successful, and likely the Women of NASA set will be on backorder on the day of its release as well. Perhaps Lego will look into this and actually begin designing and producing space and aviation sets without waiting for them to surface on Ideas. -
Pick-a-Model in LEGO stores officially discontinued?
AFOLguy1970 replied to Legopold's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. On every Lego store visit, I did not ever see anyone buy it, let alone even look at it. The only advantage was,as others noted, that it sometimes brought in some nice parts to use for the PAB cup. It is not surprising that there would be shortages of parts used to build the model. It would be impossible for Lego Store employees to consistently ensure no one fills a PAB cup to the point where it exhausts the supply of a crucial element. Lately, some of the stores have been stocking some parts in the bins that have been requested by customers. Maybe this will continue. -
I would still call ahead before going to the Lego Store and have them hold one for you until you get there. There are still plenty of resellers trying to clean out local stock in order to flip them for a quick profit.

Very nice build! I once lived in the St. Louis area and have fond memories of visiting downtown. The suggestions I might make are to (1) Try to extend the base legs of the arch out a just a slight bit more to get that classic shape. Also, the courthouse aligns with the arch on its long side rather than short side. There are some nice photos from the riverfront including both. Agreed that the Climatron is not as well known, but it is a nice rendering of a central part of a popular city attraction. Another impressive structure to consider in the city is the cathedral.

The scariest thing to me about this is that it is possible some of it will circulate into Bricklink stores. Lepin is easier to spot because it does not have the Logo, but this is much more problematic.

The idea of being able to scan your own minifigs into the game is certainly interesting. Hopefully in theory it would not clash with nonparticipating licences so far in the game --for example Star Wars. How many of us would scan Darth Vader, stormtroopers, your favorite Jedi, etc. in and play as them if you could? It would also be fun to be able to get a homemade character such as something you created at a Build-a-minifigure station in the Lego Store. I suppose you could take the photo, upload the JPG, and then something in the software would recognize it as a minifig and pair it up with all known heads, torsos, and legs in a database. Then, there is the issue of abilities. Could you assign an ability to a character, especially one that you do not currently have represented in an official pack? Lego could be uneasy about allowing that as it would bypass the need to buy certain characters to gain all abilities in the game. It does sound intriguing though.....

There have been plenty of times where Lego has ended a line but not announced its cancellation. Lord of the Rings comes to mind. Everyone was hoping for a Minas Tirith or at least something Gondor in an assumed third wave. Some Hobbit sets were made, because the movies were out, but LOTR went out with a whimper and not a bang. I do not remember any cancellation announcements regarding things like Scooby Doo, Chima, Castle, or Pirates either, yet they are gone. While it would be nice to have more packs for Dimensions, the warning signs are all there. The only two packs I found in the Lego Store last week were in the little clearance bin near the register. Toys R Us and Walmart both have significantly less now than they did when the year started. It really does not look good.

Still lots of people hoping for a Winter Train Depot to go along with last year's train. Maybe it could be the North Pole station.

Great job you did! The park fits in well with the structures.

Did you order from Lego S&H? I too ordered as soon as it was possible, which was about an hour after midnight in the US after the website recovered just enough to allow me to pay. It still says "In Warehouse" for me though. I am nervously awaiting for that "item is shipped" email or an indication it has done so on the site. As for backorders, that is certainly better than the dreaded "out of stock" situation where it does not allow an order. A limited production run would equate to a huge missed opportunity as the demand is obviously there. I honestly think this can endure as long as the Death Star if Lego wanted to go there. Some resellers who managed to snag some from stores are apparently having some fun with this. Ebay is full of them right now for some fairly inflated prices. It sometimes infuriates me to go to Brickpicker and read quotes like "I hope they only made one production run so we can unload for a pile of money" when there are plenty of people out there who just want one for enjoyment. <end rant> Anyway, I know you will certainly be waiting earnestly for the mail or Fedex vehicle. -
Funny how Lego has acknowledged that sets can travel. This month's freebie with online orders is a minifigure travel set. It is essentially a minifig with some travel accessories such as a camera, umbrella, and some other things. It even comes with passport that can presumably be stamped if you bring it to Lego stores.

AFOLguy1970 replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Edit: Now showing 30 day backorder online Hopefully it will not go to out of stock status where it no longer allows you to place an order. Now the fun begins for those who plan on going to the Lego Store today to get one. If last night was any indication of demand, then my suggestion would be to get there early before it opens and try to look through the windows to figure out exactly where they are going to be in the store. It would honestly surprise me if the Lego Stores allowed 5 per customer like the online site does. Imagine the tension that would create of someone bought the last 5 and there were people in line behind them wanting just one. The store in Dallas is not that big, so they only have room for so many of these at any given time. Glad I do not have to go there and compete with everyone else to get one. I am going to go out on a limb and say this will probably be the most successful Ideas set ever, if not one of the most successful Lego sets of all time. It has a very broad appeal to various groups. -

One hour later, and the order goes through! Funny thing is that I got the site survey request about 20 minutes ago. Probably the only negative survey I have ever given The Lego Company.
