[MOC] [Steampunk] Dr. Teslisons Airship
rodiziorobs replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I thought your elephant was great, but this is even better! There is some very smart part usage going on here, and some wonderful color and contrast! I really need to get around to some more steampunk myself; I have done a bit recently, but it's one of those things you can never have too much of...! Keep these awesome creations coming -
LEGO Ideas Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to The Real Indiana Jones's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Ha! I think I was one of those on Brickset giving grief! I just worry the set--no matter how spectacular--will have a hard time proving its value. Separate question, do we have any hard numbers on how big of a production run Ideas sets get? 1 million, 100k? I realize it probably varies from set to set but I'm curious if anyone knows. -
I liked the longer story, and of course the detailed pictures tell the story all by themselves. Lots of amazing detail inside and out of the labs. It took me a second to realize what the purple pods in the background were!

The whole scene looks great, but the plants look wonderful!

Fun story, the mission impossible stuff cracked me up. I love the scene in the ventilation shaft with the holoprojector. The computer terminal is also nice

You get extra points for awesome use of official chrome pieces, right? Great drone, and the microscale Octan ship is nicely done, too

What a sweet green machine! The shaping and color scheme are perfect

The rocky shoreline looks great! Nice nod to Valentinali's day, as well
-
Awesome hovercraft! The island also looks really good and though I'm not usually a fan of scattered studs for water, the way you used the different colors as you approach the shore looks great

I totally get the frustration of trying to stretch those blue baseplates as far as you can! My last three weeks have taken forever to take pictures because I have to keep moving them around! (Of course, I didn't go to the added effort to cover mine with transparent plates or cheese slopes, either!) Great story, great build! Edit: oh, and I love the MANTIS Depth Ray!

Location: E02 (Jurin II) Tags: Water vehicle Entries from the last two weeks: The End, Pt. II: Hunted The End, Pt. I: Spying **************** Made it, and in one piece! But...now where are we? Nav system is recalibrating...hmmm. That's odd... What? I'm picking up a lot signals on the scanner, but I don't see anything out here...not a ship in sight. They're not submarines, are they..?! No, the signals are too weak to be any kind of a ship...it must be... Oh no! Kill the engines! What's wrong? We're in the middle of a minefield. That's what all these signals are! AG week 34 by rodiziorobs, on Flickr That explains why Octan stopped chasing us. I'll try to raise HQ on the radio, see if they can redirect the rendezvous to airlift us directly from here. Sounds good. Meanwhile I'll take the controls and see if I can steer us around these things. No Scorpio don't touch that! LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
rodiziorobs replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Picked up the last ones on my list today: 2 more Scary Knights (total of 3 now) and Winged Warrior. I might still want to pick up a faun, but I don't really have much use for him. Still amazed at the how consistently fantastic this series has been, I hope s16 is just as good (although my wallet hopes not!) -
I just spent several minutes looking at the pictures and trying to reconstruct in my mind how this operates. This model is absolutely brilliant! I don't own any of the other Fairground sets but am tempted to MOC my own after figuring out yours. I think I'll even dig up my Ideas account (which I haven't accessed since the CUUSOO days) and support, well done!

I had a similar thought, but that maybe Jestro has a redemptive arc (the knights convince him of his errant ways, eg) and tosses the book into the volcano to destroy it (a la LOTR). However, rather than being destroyed, the book actually corrupts the volcano and perhaps the earth around it, which leads to the other forest and water monsters emerging from the land itself as the evil spreads. However, I don't know how they would ever make the volcano character into a set, and I am still not sure we will ever see those other monsters in set form. Usually TLG keeps things like that quiet until right before release so that knock-offs have to play catch-up. Revealing these characters so early kind of thwarts that tactic.

Well, it's your turn anyway, you guessed the last one.

Do modern white bricks still turn yellow?
rodiziorobs replied to ProducePrincess's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As I understand, older bricks would yellow because of bromide compounds included in the plastic. This was especially true for blues and whites. As the pieces aged, the bromide would slowly and naturally separate from the plastic and appear on the surface. H2O2 does a pretty good job removing this; in my experience, adding OxyClean doesn't change it--just soaking in H2O2 in sunlight took less than a day to make them white again, and I didn't notice any change in texture. Once I tried cleaning with Magic Eraser, and that did cause a noticeable textural change. In the 90's TLG changed their plastics and sources, so the bromide was no longer included. These newer bricks should not yellow unless they are exposed to sunlight or similar harsh lighting conditions. I wouldn't worry about it much, and if your collection does yellow a bit, H2O2 should do the trick. -
