Mini-Dark Ages Sale (over 40 different sets)

That 9V cross over should work just fine with the PF tracks. But I have to laugh - they're making a pack of track accessories for duplo, but not "regular" scale LEGO. It's kind of insulting, in a way. I'm wondering how many four year olds are demanding crossovers and gates for their duplo trains.

Great review, thanks! It's a nice little house for the money. I think I could find a spot on my some-day train layout for it.

This is really great, guys; great charity and great prizes. Good luck! I hope whoever donated Mr. Gold can deduct $US600 or so off their taxes, at least! That was quite nice.

Very nice job, there, Legofin2012! That's a really nice scene you've created.

Maybe we can have a sticky thread suggestion where members can post links to their brickshelf/flickr/whatever LEGO collections and MOCs. Edit: For the record, you can generally find your way to mine by clicking on one of the images in my signature.

Wow... step away for a few months and it feels like I missed years of information... The Simpsons would be awesome. I'm sorry, nay-sayers, but I would commit to buy right now if possible. I'm a huge Simpsons fans, and even though it's an "old" property, it's still extremely popular with adults and kids - whether it's managed to keep you interested all these years or not, it's still a huge hit. My kids both watch (11 and 14) and love the show. I remember having these arguments about the LOTR (before it was announced), while people kept saying it would never happen, that there's not enough set possibilities, that LEGO makes it's money off of vehicles, and there are none in the LOTR... it's the same tired arguments, now. Not enough locations, not enough vehicles... hundreds of possible characters with many more hundreds in variations, especially when you add in Halloween themes. Whether it's just figures or complete sets, I'm happy. In fact, EB should have a building contest to celebrate - build a Simpson's location to get ready to put your characters when they're available.

Is Chima not doing well? I got one, too. No idea what to do with it. A few decent parts, and figures are neat - but I don't know what I'd use them for. Was thinking about giving it away, but at the same time there are decent parts (mostly the "gems" and plant parts). Seems like a waste to cannibalize it just for those, though. Still, nice of them to throw it in, I guess. It would be cool to put it on the slip, though, as I was getting ready to call them about their "mistake." I also got a second Han Holo. I'll just go ahead and keep that one.

Ludzik +1, and BigRedGoat +1 Thanks, guys! -
I think it's a good value, objectively, I just can't afford it. If you put a value on those figures, and then calculate what's left, it's not a bad deal at all.

No, they really don't. They don't sell for collectability; they benefit from sales to collectors, but the vast majority of sales - their target - goes to people just buying sets for their own use. The have NO obligation to collectors.

Mini-Dark Ages Sale (over 40 different sets)
fred67 replied to fred67's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I am now offering free domestic shipping and packaging, and discount on international shipping up to 10% of the negotiated price of the item(s). Open to offers. -
I bought one despite the fact I'm trying to sell off a large chunk of my collection (shameless plug: see signature). Long ago I'd already limited myself to OT ships that I didn't already have - it didn't matter which version, if I had one, I wouldn't buy a new one. I had a non-UCS B-Wing, and still bought this - it was just too good a deal to pass up. As far as collectors and collectibles go: too bad. TLG doesn't make LEGO for collectors, they make it for kids and enthusiasts. That it becomes collectible is not a concern of TLG. Collectors take their chances when they "invest," just like investors in any other market. As for the people who paid full price - they would not have bought it if it wasn't worth it to them. It's happened to me in the past, and it's annoying, but you have to shrug it off and get over it. EDIT: want to add this, after some more though about it: I'm sorry that people overseas are charged so much for LEGO. I would never have gotten into the hobby at all given those prices. That doesn't change the fact that, no matter where you are, LEGO is very expensive. I haven't looked lately, but their increase in profits over the last few years well outpaced their increase in sales, which means their profit margins have gone up, and they are doing quite well... good for them, but I still feel that, even in the U.S., LEGO is expensive. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to whine about it - I choose with my wallet. I buy far less LEGO today than I did five years ago - I vote with my wallet, but let's be honest; I wouldn't buy it at all if it weren't worth it to me. Now, I doubt they would sell B-Wings at a loss, so let's just put it at that - I believe they are still making a profit at $100, just not much of one. The point is that, IMO, there's no such thing as "too much" of a discount on LEGO.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
fred67 replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You haven't legally committed to buy anything, and I never said anyone could possibly hold you to it; after all, the price might be drastically different - the set itself might end up being drastically different. Something could happen in your life that makes you not able to buy it.... but the questions are pretty simple - how much would you pay, how many would you buy - if you put you'd buy more than zero when you have no intention of doing it ever just because you think it's a cool set, you're not (in my opinion), using the system the way it was meant to be used - it's not voting on "cool" sets, it's voting on viable sets. -
Yes. I ask myself. Like some people have mentioned, I often question why a 46 year old likes "playing" with LEGO (despite the fact that I build and display - although I do have trains that I run - but then a lot of adults are train fans). I think I like LEGO though, for the same reason I like engineering (and eventually became a computer programmer). I just like building things, I like the challenge involved in doing it in LEGO, and it's fun.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
fred67 replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When you support: how much would you pay? How many are you willing to buy? You cannot support it and enter "0," so you're ethically committing to buying should the set be made at the price you said you'd be willing to pay. I know most people don't care, so they just lie about it when they support, but I don't support anything I wouldn't buy, which means I see a lot of cool stuff that I don't support. I think it's dishonest to claim you'd buy something if they made it and then not follow through. -
I've been away for a while, so hadn't seen this until now. I think it looks great, especially with the changes you implemented from the suggestions. I understand not putting it on the floor, but L is such a large scale that you need width in order to get the large feel. But you can't, I get that, so my suggestions are: 1. a backdrop. 2. the haunted house is a great addition... little detail-y things, "hidden" things to find, make it interesting... someone getting a ticket, street lights (working would be really cool); one of the things I have is a "mater" truck (I have some displays, but not a full layout). 3. if you're inclined to expand, make a t section where you crossed the road over the tracks. But I wanted to repeat it's just my two cents, you've made a wonderful layout.

Nothing. I have two versions of Hogwarts Express and the Train Chase from TS3, and this is is better than both - so no complaints from except that I was not budgeting for Lone Ranger sets, as I'm trying to cut back. I multiquoted this before seeing the response, which was right on - the only problem with that is differential around curves, but by and large it probably wouldn't be so bad - all the old metal axles were like that and it wasn't a big deal. I agree, though, why don't they just use black? Is it really that difficult? Is there no call for black? It seems like it would be one of the most popular colors for those kinds of pieces. Thumbs up to TLG, though - as I said, this is the best movie-licensed train so far.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Golden Minifigure Discussion
fred67 replied to TrumpetKing's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I am kind of a completist... but I'm going to "pretend" like they didn't do this. I do not consider it one of the series 10 figures, and if I get all 16 (and I am currently resorting to just buying it by the box, anyway), I will consider it complete. If I get one on my box, then cool - if not, so be it. I've stopped caring when they do these things because it only leads to disappointment.- 87 replies

Collectible Minifigures Trading Suggestion
fred67 replied to Donut's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just so you know, it's a lot easier when you can put the link to your CMF post in your update posts; it's a common mistake to say things like "on page 6," but you know people can adjust the number of posts they see on any given page, so it's not the same for everybody. If you can't put the link, saying "it's post #" is at least easier (the number in the upper right of each post). In fact, if you're using a decent web browser, if you right click on the number you can easily copy the link location to paste it into your post. In addition, I know I'd appreciate it if people would put their country in their profile. I know people want to be anonymous, but that's stretching it - and you need to say in your CMF listing anyway, otherwise you'll just be inundated with people asking. And while I'm ranting... it would be cool to somehow remove posts that haven't been edited in some time. I know this is a forum and not a trading shop, but it's kind of annoying how many have abandoned their posts (no pun intended) - and I'm just thinking out loud here; I don't have a great suggestion. If I had time I'd write my own site for minifigure trading. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
fred67 replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I buy a box now, as I don't have time to get all the ones I want standing in the LEGO store and feeling up packets. Given that, I'm really disappointed at the new distribution in series 9, and hope they don't presume to know what people will want. From my perspective, they got some of them right, but some of them wrong. They shouldn't try to out guess us; if they did some kind of target audience market research to come up with the ratios, I'd like to hear about it. The Bee Girl looks awesome. If there's a gold figure in each box, that'd be fine with me, as it guarantees I'll get one, and I think at that rate that most AFOLs will be able to get one. If they just throw out "X" number of them randomly, then I'm not happy. With all the tens of thousands of dollars I spent on LEGO in the past decade, and I've never gotten a single one of these "chasers," it's kind of annoying. Of course, this will fall on deaf ears at TLG - the simple fact is that doing things like that increases sales. Period. We can whine and complain all we want, but it works, and we will keep buying.- 1,076 replies

There's a few interrelated reasons - it's expensive, and I already have interests in too many other LEGO themes. As a result, I do play with PF a lot, but have not bought mindstorms. If I did not have interests in any other themes, I might be willing to spend the money - but I can only justify spending so much on LEGO, and mindstorms would mean missing out on a LOT of other LEGO.

Collectible Minifigures Trading Suggestion
fred67 replied to Donut's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
NEW SERIES 9 HAVES AND WANTS! Added several series 9 to trade, including the popular alien avenger and knight! Really want forest maidens and gypsies. U.S. preferred; will consider international to trade multiple figures. The full listing is here... have a lot to trade and a lot of wants... also have one of the highest straight-shooter counts on EB.
