STAGECOACH HOLD-UP wild west set #6722
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was getting a slight feeling of this as well. Although I do see this design more as a western stagecoach, it did inspire me to create an 18th century royal coach. -
Apparently they just called it that because the pigmentation of the webbing between the arms reminded them of dracula's cape. Also don't mistake squids for polyps. They are molluscs just in case anyone is unaware. For that matter the Lego polyps are not especialy polyp like either, for one thing, polyps don't have teeth. But don't get me wrong, I don't mind them calling it a polyp, just don't be confused by it. I just seen a program about the Box Jellyfish wich is a polyp and contains the most potent and quick acting toxin known.

STAGECOACH HOLD-UP wild west set #6722
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The stagecoach along with the steam engine are my favorite wild west aspects from a mocing standpoint. I, like 007, do like extra details within mocs, but this coach stands quite well without them. If\when I decide to build my own I will likely use it as a base, though probably in a castle or pirate setting. It is the best stagecoach I've seen to date and the most detailed too, actually -
What is your artistic interest ???
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I, like Starwars4J, draw my inspiration mostly from nature, though usually on a smaller scale than geographical features. My astetical interest mostly encompass biological features and organic qualities. Though not always a direct appreciation of natural beauty, I also favor; Prehistoric cave paintings or petroglyphs, Native american art such as sand pianting and pottery embellishments, Japanese ink painting, and surealism when the emphasis is organic (artificial if it has hydrodynamic curvature and/or is biomechanical.) -
I think it's more a matter of protagonist vs. antagonist. The protangonist (or lead character) is not nessessarraly of good moral standing, but from their point of view, they may be within their rights. The same may hold true for the antagonist. I would hope that the inconsistancies in the stories are meant as an inspiration to induce your imagination, not to remain static to any viewpoint.

Very dynamic and interesting form, while maintaning an official set quality. I especially like the angles of the stern castle. *y*

Here is a first rough atempt at an abdomen mod, along with the inner claw and head exposed.

The Which Lego Minifg Are You Test
ghoulrealm replied to Mister Phes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
He means for you to be more specific. If your not specific enough, it's kind of pointless to post anything. A low tech good guy could encompass several different types of minifigures. Plus you can always take the test again and find out what it was. -
If they were marooned they may have made rafts. The leaves are attached not growing, and are there for shade. As for the catapult... you got me? :S
-
I don't think the use of the 'log' pieces is a particularly bad idea, but the the catapults are. The lantern is a bit big for system but also not that bad.

AQUARAIDER's creatures... brick-built ???
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
That sabastion is by CountBlockula he also calls it a crab bot. But yes I do you like the minifig hand\arm usage and the mico size. The lobster in your first post is more realistic as far as the head thorax and tail. Other than the #, the legs are worse as well as the claws. I'm also not to happy with the plate antanea. Plate usage was the main reason I didn't purchase the 4506 Deep Sea Predators esp. on the squid tentacles. The lobster's brick hinge legs remind me of a older style technic creation (too rectangular) I suppose they both have favorable and undisrable elements. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the mutated aqua raiders version for all the specialized parts and the smaller size, I also prefer the dark red and black to classic red. EDIT----I think I understand your opposing viewpoint now! because mine is this- I think it should be as much as an action figure as possible and still use small interchangable parts. perhaps Bionical at 1\4th scale. -
AQUARAIDER's creatures... brick-built ???
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
sounds to me like you want cartoon: a Sabastion or a Mr Crabs Ok, Maybe that's a an extreme interpretation. I usaully value more realism in all it's full grotesque beauty, and the scarier the better for me. I also love specialized pieces as long as they can be utilized in multiple ways. -
Davy Jones & Crew: The Production Thread
ghoulrealm replied to Lord Admiral Helden Ravensdorn's topic in Pirate MOCs
:-$ thanks for the compliment. I must point out, you can acheive a "level of detail" with sculpey equal to any compound, but the level of durability leaves much to be desired. The hat is my favorite aspect of this model thus far. If it's too tall, it's only slightly so. -
Sets containing piratical and/or complimentary elements!
ghoulrealm replied to Berry Syedow's topic in LEGO Pirates
I must have missed this topic! 8-o I can't fathom that sentence. :-D _______________________ Perhaps this spiderman set may be easily converted into a period shipyard. 4856 Spiderman Doc Ock Hideout -

Greetings from just across the dutch border...
ghoulrealm replied to Holodoc's topic in Hello! My name is...
Welcome, Holodoc. It's good to see another StarTrek fan here. I was going to say it was a coencidence that I was playing a Voyager episode while I browse this topic, except I'm almost always playing some Star Trek episode or movie. -
It may wipe off, but still think it stains a little. I don't see myself disassembling this moc anytime soon anyhow. :)

AQUARAIDER's creatures... brick-built ???
ghoulrealm replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This find locks good. I like the head and tail fins better but thats all. The large rectangular shape of the legs and anteana looks as inorganic as a bionicle part. Although the tail segment section is rounded it still has too squarish look to it. xenologer has a point. Even if they were bioniclized such as my moc; Much of the bionicle line does have a specialized yet artificial look, but to say the barraki armor is inorganic... It seems my lobster has had quite an impact on you, Brick Miner. ;-) -
I knew you'ld ask that! In my area the hobby stores are Hobby Lobby, Michaels Arts & Crafts Store, and they use to sell it at Walmart. I don't usually order from the internet, but you could, if you want to search for it that way. Fimo is a similar product. It requires more needing and may be more durable. However, I find that after needing it it is too viscous or at least doesn't support it's self well. The sculptuers I usually make are too small for armeture support.

when I acquired mine 4 years ago (no that's not why it's brittle,) it was about 8$ US per pound.
-
It's not that bad. It doesn't crumble. but if you have a strand as small as my davy's tentacle it with break off quite easily It should hold up well for megaliths, and here's what I would do in that case; 1. I would try to make a few glyphs in a sheet of flattened (but thicker than centimeter) soft sculpy. 2. bake the sheet and cool 3. make some balls about the size of the glyphs and press them into each glyph. 4. make a handle of the top of each ball ( a cylyndrical type structure) 5. pull them from the sheet. 6. cut off the excess from around the base of the negative mold 7. bake and cool these forms 8. use them to press glyphs into your megaliths.... and all your remaining clay as well and maybe sugar cookies too X-D
-
It could work well for megaliths. Just not very durable for anything under a centimeters/ half inch. Even if it was larger, it would likely break in two if it say... fell off a table on a hard floor.
