Halloween 06: What do You Enjoy More?
ghoulrealm replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I voted combo, but all are interesting on there own except mystery, which I would combined with any of the other 3, or with archeological adventures such as Indiana Jones. Mystery is also good when it includes a "nonfictional" supernatural element, and is not nessesairly horror. Best of all would be something that combines all the catagories: A space adventure where poeple go to an alien planet, and discover ruins with a puzzle that unlocks a fantastic and monsterous beast. The alien beast has some kind of ability to alter genetics or something too.. Many scifi shows and movies allready have these combinations, so if I had to choose one, that would be it. The weirder the better. -
When I was pretty young I saw a cheesy movie called 'Basketcase'. It had a scene where the "creature" grabbed someones leg from under a bed. It made me fear the under bed for a long while. "Plot Outline: A young man carrying a big basket that contains his deformed Siamese-twin brother seeks vengeance on the doctors who separated them against their will." ____________________ More recently the movie 'Fire in the Sky'. The scenes in wich he is being dragged by the aliens and the needle probe in the eye :-X Oooo, I hate the eye poking, sticking, and surgeries. The movie 'Signs' was also quite compeling and a bit fearful to me.

Halloween 06: What has scared you the most
ghoulrealm replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If you look at it, even in a scientific way, you might want to keep an open mind about some these "paranormal" things. So many theories are revised or prooven wrong throughout history and new discoveries cause re-examination of our current scientific beliefs even now. Unless we obtain Omnipotence, you cannont disregard anything as impossible, maybe improbable but not impossible. Now as for my fear. *skull* Alien abduction, if they're real and or any kind of tourture. I also fear getting internal parasites :-X (the totally real monsters,) and my Chihuahua getting ran over, eaten, or poisoned. I've had at least 2 nightmares where she was injured and in pain. In one of them a couple of protoceratops bit off all of her feet. :-D!... oh I made myself :'-( . -
That species is known as 'Histioteuthis hoylei.' They typically have 8 arms and 2 feeding tentacles, however there are natural mutations and they can loose and regrow arms. I think we discused this issue quite thoroughly in the how to build a kraken thread. The kraken is most commonly thought of as a cephalopod, but can be anything from a giant crab, a fish the size of an islet, a sea serpent, pretty much any kind of sea monster. So I wouldn't say this moc would be out of line as a kraken, although I feel, as it is, it's much more akin to the Tremors monster or a Dune worm.

Someone called starstefan on brickshelf has has a unique version of The Fly'n Dutchman. Check it out here. As for mine, it's still on hold :-( , so no further progress yet.

This is great! I need to incorporate some of this into one of my ships.

Are you interesting in a Pirate MOC competition?
ghoulrealm replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I always enjoy a good moc competition, and no prize is neccessary for me. SuvieD tried to do the ship moc contest, which never had a good follow through yet. It was too open ended and not very clear on the prize issue( he said no prizes twice and a prize for someone once *wacko* ) Oh well, as i said I don't need a reward to participate, but I wouldn't turn one down either. Here are some suggestions for moc contest catagories; Best minifig, best fort, outpost, other land based buildings\towns, ships of different classes or sizes, senery-islands, bays, reefs, sea creatures(my favorite). feel free to suggest some more. Maybe the prize could be a personalized signature similar to the moderators, a trophy icon, or something to do with ranking when/if it is revived. -
I for one love the variety, even flesh tones. I don't see a problem here unless your'e a newbe to lego or younger and want some classic faces, but I have enough classic heads allready :-) If they are too generic it gets's kind of boring for some. I especialy like all the alien and monster faces from Star Wars and Harry Potter. *alien* Even better than that, is the specialty form heads like Doby, Jarjar, and *yoda* . Yes, I like Jarjar but only in form, not personality.

build rolling waves for your ship mocs. sort of like this
-
"Collapsing masts" catches my attention! It indicates that it is based on a wooden sailing vessel, assuming that the magnetic arm is for metalic treasures and not for moving steel bulkheads. Considering it has a mast, and the musket from the other set, we can be fairly assured it's preindustrial era. But who knows what state the wreck is in. The price of $29.99 must include the sub, some kind of poisonous creature, and the remnants of a ship. That may limit the amount of parts used for the ship.

I really like the shooting pieces especially the new 'torpedo' shape, however the functional part on the end should be light trans-blue so it looks more like a trail of bubbles. Seems that many AFOL do not care for those shooting things, but kids extreamly enjoy projectiles. -
One of the names doesn't match up with the description. *wacko* For instance; Mantax- is most likely manta as in 'manta ray' and in latin manto means to stay, or wait. This name corresponds more closely to the Pridak description. Pridak- not sure where this is derived, possibly 'predator'. Takadox- not sure of this one either. It sounds like japanese/latin *wacko* Kalmah- is likely calamari, another name for squid. this matches the description Carapar- is likely carapace as in a crabs exoskeleton. this also matches the description. Barakki- the group title, is quite similar to barracuda. ________________________ Anyway, the line is sounding better all the time.

My fingers are crossed for a complete set of hull pieces (a bow, stern, and at least 1 midsection). Please, oh please be a classic hull!
-
My name originates from the gameboy and nes games of Gargoyle's Quest. It's a spinoff of the more popular Ghost 'n Goblins. It's the name of the world in which these games are set. Oddly enough, I never beat any of the games except one on the Super Nintendo called Demon's Crest. The title is not in common use as a screen name, and since I mostly concentrate on monsters or the paranormal I tend to stick with it.

Yes sir. It has my attention all right. The crab is looking pretty good so far, except for the legs. The peices they used don't appeal to me, as legs. I have a few alternatives in mind, if they don't change the design. They may not be too useful to pirate mocing, but's it's getting closer. It also depends on how much subsurface marine elements you can incorporate into your pirate mocings. As for the subs, they are cool but not much use for pirates. The best element on them is the trident for some kind of mythical Neptune moc or statues and figureheads.

I'm not a big fan of yellow, but the sub designs are awesome. The shooting thingies don't bother me, but they scare my dog :-D. I'm really glad they used brick built beast. Some of the best official Lego brick beast yet, if they acually release them as is. Does the shark look familiar to anyone? I wouldn't say they stole my design, because it's significantly different, but also somewhat similar. *y* It looks like a blue trident insignia on the helmets, neat! They used green piraka minifig spines for seaweed, also cool! -
Nope. I like the face better as a pirate, still not particularly fond of pacthes on any themes. And I still don't like the helmet at all, unless you can come up with a cool alternative for that as well.
-
I think I can give you something to look forward to. I have a moc that I've started. It's a silver mine using prisoners for labor and mine carts. I still need the work out a shaft and add some more equipment for atmosphere. Don't get too excited though. It might be a little while before it's finished.
-
I choose ninja. The style just appeals to me a bit more than European castles.
-
What happened with the ship hulls you had ordered? This was my last creation but it was being fished by a viking not a pirate.
-
Huh? This armor and helmet or this armor and helmet ,but everything in the new viking speckled black armor colors. The dark green knight is the closest official minifig design to what I would want. Something like the moc I made for the magnificent knight's contest is what I'm getting at here. The helmet is a lighter color from the armor but close. It would be awesome if all the armors helmets and weapons came in that color or silver.

Ok. let's say someone resized the images to print them. Why don't you upload the resized images to brckshelf to make it even easier for everyone else? I could figure something out but don't have a printer to test my efforts. Even so, I wanted a tattered sail pattern for my ghost ship, so I resized the image to mach up with an intact sail up against the computer screen and traced it onto paper. It wasn't perfect, but being a tattered design it didn't matter much. I was matching the holes diameter to get the right dimensions. My screen resolution was at 1024x768

:-D I didn't even consider that! Now that you gave me the idea, I will probably use all the Bull figs heads as pirates. I like patches better for pirates than anything, but not real big on them in general.
