Whether or not to include teeth if you make an anatomically correct squid based kraken.
-
I'm not about to register to a site just for a quiz. But I can tell you my real life is more ninja-esque than piratical. I'm going back to playing my shakuhachi now :-P
-
Exactly! don't you thinks it's already gargantuan piece of hull. Bigger is not always better.
-
Those are anatomical details of real squid. most of the suckers are concentrated on the clubs.

I would have bought that set if it wasn't YELLOW. :-X Maybe dark grey or black, then it would have been awesome. As for divers, the only value in them is what I can salvage for the pirate theme. All the underwater scenery was cool.

most mature members may make many multi-masted, multi-middle, monster MOCs...mmmk

At first glance I thought this was a curve made of plates but it was just a weird illusion. I have to agree with some that the color scheme is not ideal but it is OK I geuss. I really like the stern chasers *y* I need to start adding that detail to my own ships.

Imperial Barrack and Island of punishment
ghoulrealm replied to Captain Roger's topic in Pirate MOCs
The issue I have with the hangings. is that palm leaves wouldn't be strong enough to hold a person's weight. And how is that worse for kids than anything you can do with a cutlass, cannons, guns, or piracy in general? -
I just thought I'ld mention that squid have both a beak and chitonous teeth on a tongue like structure called a radula. and most even have teeth like hooks on their sucker rings. Also note that the tentacles are really called arms. The 2 true tentacles, and only in cuttlefish and squid, are the long grasping limbs. The difference is commonly enterchangable, but if you want to be more accurate... Moluscs are the coolest *y* and some are tastey too!

I didn't notice that little quiz until after you answered, as I am new here anyway. Don't let the nonparticapation discourage you from doing that again. I was kind of thinking of some sort of game, like geuss the minifig, based on movies or famous people.

Marketing toward 3year olds is fine but I think TLC should keep in mind that that a set like this will keep a child's interest for 2-4 years max, where system sets could last a lifetime. I don't know what the overall customer demagraphihics are like but I've bought far more lego as an adult than I ever could afford or allowed as a child.

Do you have a picture of the kraken in question? There are several different versions of this creature. Some are more octopus like, others are squid like while others are completely unique. The only thing in common with them all is tentacles here are some examples lord of the rings watcher mosasaurus head one with humanoid features just the tentacles nautiliod like octopus like and Architeuthis I assume you want something out of "Dead Mans Chest," but I haven't seen it nor can I find any kraken pics from that movie.

This is definately an improvement over the original design. The "real" cannons alone is an upgrade. At the same time it looks remarkably similar to the original. Is the refit going to be a complete redesign or to make it even more system-esque?

I finally separated the bow pieces! I had to completely mutilate the two tabs from the top. I used an exacto knive and had to remove the entire tab before the two sections would even budge. I used the butterknife more for gaining leverage in the seems, as it was useless pertaining to the tabs. you might want to add a list of available hull midsections as it may be the deciding factor in your modifications. All I'm aware of is red, brown, and white. That will severely limit possibilities too larger ship designs. And people, don't forget the Viking longship has wide brown midsections. *y*

I love the cockpit design! The overall design is superb! I don't normaly like mounted turrets but you pulled this one off well. The only thing I don't care for is the missile batteries.

I've made some alterations to the giant fiddler crab I've added a couple of dark red arms for a fuller abdomen. and a black tip to the fixed finger claw here is a better ventral view ____________________________________________________________ When oo7 mentioned the sentry bot set it sparked an idea to moc a swimming crab with some of that set's pieces... Let me know if the picture posting is a little "overboard' or if these kind of mocs are more apropriate in another subforum. I have a walrus and a whale in the works, so you can cross them off the list soon :-)

This is the figurehead of the Rose (the reference linked ship) And this is my lego rendition the arms were moved out of place while attaching it to the bow, but you get the idea If you have something else in mind, post a pic and I'ld love to try and build something :-)

I'm not a fan of transformers ,but your paint job is a big improvement *y*

Your'e right, it is too far off topic, but I didn't feel it was worth it's own thread. Since is it was already straying way off, I went with the flow.

I liked the red samurai so much I made my own *sweet* here's how I did it first be willing to sacrafice a green goblin mask. I used a box knive, a lot of patience, and an extrenely careful hand to get the lines by etching over and over again. I keep ecthing until I get through the plastic. Then filed the cut edge to even things out. The hard part is over *sweet* For coloring both the green mask and dark grey armor I just used a red "sharpie" marker. the color matches almost exactly to Lego's dark red. Then finaly I stuck a bit of polymer clay the the minifig head and attached the mask. I don't normaly like mutalating Lego, :'-) ,but this was too awesome to pass up!

I think the drumastrang has more usefull pieces, less bulky, and more pieces period.. I also like the the over all appearance of the drumassrang better than 4j as well. The only usefull parts of the 4j ship that I've found are as follows; the skull figurehead, the railings on the stern and crow's nest, the sails and flags, if you like that pattern, and the map maybe as a wallmount. 2 shrouds (it's the type of rigging) 1 yellow cup, 1 barrel, an anchor, a wench w/ string, a green parrot, and a monkey :-) I think the rest of the pieces are way too bulky or unshapely for my use *n*

I happen to love brick beast, unless they use bionicle *n* They should also try to go a bit smaller than the (creator series) with most of the creatures. Even the smallest brick beast is giant in minifig scale. I agree with Mister Phes on the Viking designs, but you can just use beast parts in some other way if you don't like them. I don't really like the current minifig shark or aligator 'because' they can't be used for parts.

Nah, just being corny as usual *wacko* Even if mermaids were real, they'ld have fish bottoms and would probably spawn, and if they had a fish head and human legs, that's just gross!
-
8-| It was turned off. I didn't think I was going to be needing it. It's back on now *sweet*

I don't think it's castly. Just because is has a grey upper hull? I do think the hull is too vertical, maybe add some tall sloping pieces for some more of a curvature. Perhaps the square-ish shape is a bit castle like. The feature I like the best is the inverted slopes used as hull spacers. I may have just not noticed that technique being used before, but I'll be stealing that for me own ships. >:-)
