I did that! Mostly I just added a deck over the gun deck with dingy, 2 aft stairways, more decore in the captain's cabin, blue flamed lanterns and skeleton crew. It was smashed :'-( , but I'll rebuild it sometime.

I think the thing that puts me off about large ships with brick built hulls is the blockyness or step like morphology. The 'junk hybrid' has a good horizontal curve but the verticle curve is still too far recessed at each step. It's just my personal preference to use smaller ships also. Not that extra long and\or large ships don't look as realistic or designed poorly, but just not to my liking. I would say my favorite type of ships are carracks and at a lego hull piece scale (standard or wide) That sometimes flavors my opinion more than anything when I review other mocs as well.

Why doesn't the catalog have a map of Europe? you all got my hopes up and then buried them deep under Denmark :'-( just wanted to bring us back on the "real" topic. X-D

It sounds like something that Power Rangers would call a monster of theirs, but this is closer to original classical manticore-- Those are pretty good for bionicle creations and did anyone notice These mocs? They are more humanoid but some of the best I've seen, and also by an asian person. Speaking of asian, I did a search for my mocs once and I must have impressed the Japanese comunity because a couple of them were listed on the Lego-Bingo site. It was funny :-D and flatering :-$

I am not going to call this China man a liar but...

Gee, thanks for making me feel old as dirt since LEGO only started making Minifigs within my lifetime :-P and with sites like ebay and Bricklink it's totally possible ;-) I'm the same age as Deinonychus (unless he's over 65 million years old :-D ), and I easily have about half of all different types of minifigs without even trying to collect them! His accomplishment is definately noteworthy, but far from impossible. -
you could also incorporate a yard (for a sprit sail) to help hide the additional support.

Sprit1 or sprit2 Am I getting closer?

Who are all the Pirate Lego fans on this board?

I was trying to expand my horizons and posted a few comments in city theme's divers discusion, but the best I could come up with was "As for divers, the only value in them is what I can salvage for the pirate theme. All the underwater scenery was cool." :-D -
just to be clear we are talking about this piece like this Right? If so the top has a stud and will connect to the bottom of another top mast, but it's unstable due to the length.

Thats a very difficult question for me, because almost every moc has favorable and unfavorable elements. Even on my mocs, I never feel they are quite finished and are constantly changing. And the different styles of building all have merit and objectionable aspects. I honestly believe in this and not trying to be affable. Please don't make me choose *wacko*

I did a search and found some marionettes that I can appreciate> A more realistic skeleton A less realistic but a style I like and a little girl thats not all clowned up
-
I your'e truly asking, I'll explaine what I dislike about marionettes. I geuss it just comes down to artistic style of the puppet. Everyone I've seen is carved wood and looks like it was finished rather quickly (just enough to distinguish a different character) They at least need to remove all of the squarishness of the wood piece it was so obviously made from and most don't even have a hinged mouth (as this one did) I have a similar problem with Halloween masks and Dia dos Mortos decorations. They usually look rather cheap, and it's not any more difficult to make a more morphologically accurate looking skull or face. And the few marionettes in wich have some effort put into them, tend to look like Lady Elaine Fairchilde from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood :-X :-X :-X Perhaps they're that way for the comic effect, but that's about as funny as a mime... sarcasm |-/

:-D :-D X-D Thats funny, but true! I wouldnt say I hate city theme, although it's a bit mundane for my taste. :-P - Good luck with your "sim city!"

Well, I'm not working on that ship for a while so if anyone else is interested, go for it, and feel free to utilize my techniques on your build if you like. Thanks for new link pics Admiral Starwind. *y* I'll use it when I continue my work.

This is is exactly the sort of post that the pirate community sub-forum is all about. As of now, I believe it should be in community forum. I don't think it really fits in anywhere else. Maybe this "The Officer's Mess" if was available to all. This intire issue may just be the down side of a ranking system. The puppeteer is very good at what he does. *y* But I never liked marionettes. *n*

You don't see many junks around, so I'll take whatever I can get. Even if it turns out to be a bad plot, I'm always more interested in the settings and soundtracks anyway.

If I had that baseplate, I would do something very much like this. *y* The color is perfect for forts within the Spanish Main. I would definatly add a roof. You could get away with large flat black plate or two, and place a few 1x1 round plates along the top of the wall for easy removal.
-
I'ld name it something that corresponds specifally to the color scheme such as 'The Bloody Abyss'
-
I try to incorperate creatures into mocs wherever possible. As for boating that is a little to far removed unless you have access to a period restoration(that would be nice, but extreamly rare, especially since I live in the midwest USA :-( )

You have some very nice works here. It's near if not exceeding some professional works I've seen. I love paleontology, but not just dinosaurs. Are you interested in other prehistoric life or just dinos? Also, most of your work is in profile. You could try some different angles if your up to the challenge. My forte is sculpture of mostly dinosaurs and prehistoric life. If I ever get around taking the photos, I'll post some of those.

That's why I didn't vote yet. It already has enough divisions to incompas large range of various content. Since Phes added "Pirate and Colonial History" sub-forum, I think we have all our bases covered here. Now that I've had time to contemplate, I will have to go with 'no'. The only community type piratical related content not covered that I can forsee is personal boating, nautical experiences and maybe marine biology. And is that worth it's own sub-forum?

The fact that the hats were not removable was as big a gripe as the figure design alone. I wanted to remove the hats from day one, but believe it or not, I wanted the figures intact! Maybe my little brother could play with them. The hats are a bit big, but still reasonably in scale for my taste. Looks like I'll be cuttin' up figs tonight. No big loss for me or my brother. He's 6, and If I recall even he said he didn't care for em.

I will! I love junks *y* I was wondering where that was being used, but only just glanced at it on the page. Here are some of the junks I've already built, if you haven't seen them yet. No! Did that happen in the movie?
-
Maybe if it was specifically nonlego, but real pirates, natical and time peroid related material. If it's in a pirate forum it should remain piratical. All the " life in general, like music, sports etc...." should probably remain in community, unless it's inspirational to your life as a pirate.

All other new 2007 sets (including new theme)

Great whites are typically about 20 feet long, athough the largest recorded was 37 feet long, if I'm not mistaken. I've recently moced up a shark more to that scale in relation to a minifig... He's a great white in scale but his teeth make him look more like a mako shark. :-/ oh well, I just wanted to try something different from the obvious tooth piece. Now more on topic... When I first seen the Aqua Raiders I was really excited *y* I immediately assumed that names meant animals, but on second thought they are most likely submarine names as in Aqua Zone theme. I'm keeping fingers crossed for creatures and a classic pirate hull for the ship wreck *sweet* And for the rest, they maybe nice for parts, but thats it for me.
