If they were to include a fantasy marine element, most of the creatures, if they're not too large, could be used as ship figureheads or port town archetecture such as fountains, statues, or market icons. Anyway, I think the main reason lego sometimes steers heavily toward monsters is because fighting a creature is less risqu

well, now there is two of you; 1 regular, and 1 miniphes X-D Don't you think it's a bit ironic that you went on an advertising crusade and now that the pirate population has increased, you seemed overwelmed a bit. :-D
-
On second thought I want all those things. :-D Seriously like time cruisers\twisters with monsters but NO modern elements such as city theme. so are you saying that you don't like any of the officially released LEGO sets ??? as most of them had far more fantasy than were realistic !!! The only fantasy I'm aware of in pirate theme is the active skeleton, but it's not much of a stretch to inactivate them.

Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?

Sea monsters or real dangerous marine animals to be exact. Fantasy? Ok, I geuss so. but they need not be active in your build, in this case it could easily go either way. the skeleton is cool dead or undead *y* -
That's what I thought at first. It seems like something I would have noticed even as a kid. I'm not sure if the north american released sets/catalogs had that info. And the comics were not a priority purchase if they even were distributed in my area. I was half way through the test and wondered if it was still even asking about lego anymore :-D I figured you name them what ever you want.

Thats exactly what meant for the trunnions It looks good as is now, but I believe Admiral Starwind also wants a neck and knob on the cascable. That is where the control stick comes in, but I'm not sure exactly how to proceed with that. The should stick out of the round base but pushed half way into the barrel, however won't fit into through the top of and half way through at the same time Here is a site defining the parts of a cannon.

The sabres are almost the same length as an antenna with bottom cut off, and they don't have as rounded ends. They should work fine though. I'ld make a quick moc for you but I lack camera for now. maybe try one of a different color (if you have any) to test how it looks.

yes it was factored in allready. I was emphasizing not to forget shipping charges when evaluating savings. I presumed that you thought it may have been a better deal than it was. Some ebay sellers will give an awesome price only to jack up shipping charges unreasonably high. and is 11 worth the risk of shipping and even seller's trustworthyness if you can get it at a local store for a bit more? Not saying this person or Ebay is not usefull or untrustworthy, just that I'ld prefer a storefront buisness unless it's incredibly cheaper or only available over the internet. At least save more than 11 bucks.
-
They are your parts! Do what you want to them. I thought I'ld add a few alternatives before you "ruin" pieces. If you can pull off a well executed rounded end, it would probably look better, but I almost always regret doing such modifications.
-
somehow use a black control stick for the end, inside this piece and a black light sabre blade for the center instead of antennas. the control stick may be loose fitting but i.m.o. it's still better than cutting up antennas unless they are already damaged.
-
It's about $11 cheaper than retail, Shipping is $15 don't forget to factor that in. you can save $11 and that's someting, but not enough of a difference for me :-( also only ships to USA
-
For the center, why not use a black Harry Potter wand type piece? It's not rounded, but better than mutilating parts. And for the end, use a lever switch with the lever pushed into the barrel of the cannon.

I believe yacht to be an apopriote term for for what you are going for here. As for armements, It would likley have been gunned, unless it only sails well gaurded waters (it's your choice anyway). And for the moc work, I really like what you done here! I would just add white, dark grey, or black 1stud wide plates all along the outer edge as railing caps and try to give the sides decorative details as on this royal yacht Maybe you could use flex hose for railings (the pod racer lines used to to connect the engines to the pods)

Exo-Force here and now!For the cockroaches!
ghoulrealm replied to Kahgarak's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Arthropods need not have mechs to rule the world! In terms of numbers and biomass they have bested us. -
I don't mind the use of burps, but foliage is a is a little spares. The use of bridges is good for a quick build, though I like ApophisV and Dana's bridge better :-P It could have probably used some more aligators too. And Phes, from what I gather your lego selection is somewhat limited aside from pirate minifigs and pirate sets. If this is the case, Do you think it may have flavored your choice in keeping so firmly with TLC style of building? I sometimes will take a small box of some assorted pieces and and challenge myself to use only those. So it's not nessesaraly a bad thing and still fun, but I'll usually come back to those builds with my full assortment.

I wanted to reiterrate the reference site of POTC ship pics In case you'ld like to make comparisons to the model. and show the reaper figurehead before it's obscured by to much other details. Enjoy!

Has POTC crossed the line? Should Lego follow?
ghoulrealm replied to SirScottLego's topic in LEGO Pirates
It seems to remain tied in any thread. Monsters will win eventually! *skull* or ye be cursed :-D -
Sorry, Brick Miner but I for one will not be limited to TLC's protocol and building style. Regardless of POTC I will use any excuse to add monsters and ghost in any theme. For me, thats the element that is truely fun. There is still plenty of realistic mocs being made although I'll admit not many are islander. If you'ld like to use POTC as a moc template you can always filter out the paranormal aspects. The Dauntless, Port Royal, even the Black Pearl if you replace the sails with intact sails. I'm not watching Dead Man's Chest until the DVD release so I don't have much of a clue to it's realism yet. I know that the Flying Duthman is fantastical, obviously!

!? back to divers, I think science is great in real life but as a lego theme is kind of boring *sad* It is too close to city theme or too close to modern times for my taste. just use the senery and almost nothing else. Maybe I shouldn't even be posting within in this subforum! :-P I'll just go back to pirates now *pirate*
-
I tend to steer away from islanders.. it is a good addition to the theme for variety, but my least favorite. I can see some potential for good islander mocs though, like Easter island, Robinson Caruso, and maybe something like Skull Island from King Kong. I don't always like going direct from popular media but they are convenient inspirational starting points.

Maybe the pirates retrofitted the ship to hold more booty *pirate*
-
mech color scheme: white and light (bluish or old) gray! I don't have many light grey and would rather not do whites :-X for a mecha Besides that, I really don't care for mechs that much 'yawn' Let's have more pirate, castle, and spaceship related contest *y*
-
This ship is really cool *y* I love the colors and stern architecture and the arches over the portholes. That figurehead is awesome too, I looks a scandinavian dragon or gothic gargoyle. *skull* I don't believe the stern is too high but I do think you should raise the forecastle to balance it out a bit.
-
I can't wait for a purple version with clikits all over X-D I would say that ship is a "Pinque"

Hazas all around to all the *knight* contestants! This was really fun! I *wub* these contests, because it brings out the best in people. I do wish there was a few more entries, but it was a decent turnout.
