Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte present: The making of the Spanish Imperial Galleon Nuestra Señora de la Concepción Here are some of the pictures we took while building our latest ship. Most of the pictures are taken at my LEGO room, some in the garden and some in Amsterdam at Captain Green Hair's place. I've added a few words for most of the pictures so you can follow the story It all starts with the first brick: The stern under construction: First gun port: Mmmm, let's see how this looks (you see Errorist, Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte): Let's try a yellow/white mosaic for the side of the ship: Good weather? Let's build outside While watching a movie we put the ship on a shelf to see if we like what we have so far: Nah, let's change the mosaic into green/white and tweak some of the other colors: An early stern design: Ship moved from Belgium to Amsterdam for working on the decks: Here's Steven and the Captain (still in Amsterdam): Back in Belgium (my place) - rigging time!!!: Let's try to make a sail: Ready with needle and wire to attach a sail: Et voila, the first sail is attached: Barbecue time: Making more sails with a full stomach (notice the Klingon flag? ) : Making one tick wire for the anchor by combining many wires. Our experiment to iron a printed flag onto canvas: And we liked the result a lot: Finishing the ship (you see Bonaparte and Captain Green Hair working as a team): And here's the end result: More pictures of the finished ship are here.

I would really like a new Armada (Petition idea)
Bonaparte replied to Governor Wes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Like you I'm a fanatic Imperial Armada fan. However, we recently did a huge fan survey and delivered a detailed report to TLG (including the request for the return of the mighty Armada). So, now is not the best time to have another petition. -
Report about new Western sets addressed to TLG
Bonaparte replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm not an American as I live in Europe and I'm for sure interested in Wild West. You could bring the same argument for castle as there are no castles or medieval history in the US. Yet, castle is very popular in the US. Indians, cowboys and wild west are so well known all over the globe that their location doesn't really matter IMO. -
Oh, didn't know that was you. You're so lucking winning that amazing set!

I'm drooling over those amazing prizes Seems like a very fun and cozy event!

Spanish Imperial Galleon - Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion
Bonaparte replied to Bonaparte's topic in Pirate MOCs
Yes, such a brick might do the trick. It would be a very useful part, too bad it doesn't exist. No, that's just for the show, the rudder doesn't really work. It's only in one Bellvile set: -

I'm not sure I understand, let's have a look from a different angle. Is the issue also visible here or was it the angle in which the other pic was taken? They are kinda at the same height, but the one is angled (because of the sloping of the side of the ship) and the inverted slope is not. That indeed creates the effect you describe from some viewing angles. If we started the inverted slope one plate higher we'd have avoided this. Valid point! That's something I would have preferred different, but we couldn't find a better solution. I'd really have to check it on the ship to see it better, but it's still in our garden house in my foto-shoot setup (and it's raining). I'll let the Captain comment on this one -

Reading this article really makes me dream and hope for the return of Western. Next to Pirates (and in particular the mighty Imperial Armada which I just love ) comes Western for me. I do own the amazing Legoredo fortress with those cool Union minifigs and I'm planning to buy some more of the old Western sets. But, as suggested in the article, I'd love to see a Mexican like Western theme with a Mexican Cantina, Hacienda, Spanish Mission, Spanish-style Fort. That would all go very well with my Favorite all time sub-theme, the Imperial Armada. Both Copmike and myself will make sure this report gets into the right hands! Thanks Klaus-Dieter and TheBrickster for making the time to write this very professional report. -
Spanish Imperial Galleon - Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion

Thanks to SlyOwl our ship is now sailing in the Carribean. Thanks a lot SlyOwl for making the pic with the background! Jup, the checker pattern is for sure one of my favorite details in the ship. It worked out the way we hoped it would. I'm the lucky one, but as soon as I die the ship goes to Captain Green Hair -
Absolutely stunning MOC. The way you've added the micro-scale ship (I guess it would have been a Caravel or Galleon) gives the MOC an extra dimension. Also I like how you've managed to make the beach and vegetation so very realistic (love the banana tree!). Next to all that, it must be great to be welcome by an Islander women with big... a big friendly smile . Last but not least I like the historic aspect of this MOC, reviving history with LEGO is a very important aspect of myself being into LEGO. Soon I'll share a new ship which could be the macro-version of the ship in your MOC!

Spanish Imperial Galleon - Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion

Credit for the lamp designs goes to Captain Blackmoor. We liked them so much we wouldn't want our ship to be without them. That's still for another project I'm working on and which has a lot more dark red as this one. But I did replace some dark red parts in this one also to get rid of color inconsistencies. As a matter of fact, I have thrown away a bag of inconsistent reddish brown parts while building this ship. After we'd build the hull, one evening I replaced all the reddish brown parts with color mismatch. Annoying job, bad LEGO company! -

I'll be honest and confess most of this ship was build while drinking beers or suffering from the effects of drinking too much beer We both are quite open to the idea's of each other and most of the time we agreed rather fast for most decisions. Initially we both had different idea's about the color scheme in the side of the ship, so we've trial several versions to see what looks best. We first did the mosaic with yellow/white but that didn't work out well, especially looking at it from a distance, so we moved to the green/white (which was CGH's original idea). We had a lot of fun building this together, it took a bit longer because we sometimes had to wait for many weeks before finding another suitable date. I'll also post some of the construction pictures in the near future. -
90d Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte present: The Spanish Imperial Galleon Nuestra Señora de la Concepción Constructed partly in the world famous Amsterdam shipyards of Captain Green Hair and partly in the shipyards of Bonaparte near Antwerp, we are proud to present this international project. We started planning the ship beginning of 2009 at which time we begun buying bricks. As we've used a lot of rare colors it took a bit of time and a many Bricklink orders. All sails and flags are made out of real canvas (no paper) and many meters of rope were consumed for the rigging. On some occasions we enjoyed the assistance of Errorist (a Eurobricks member) and Steven (a friend of Bonaparte). Thanks for looking and for your feedback

Yes, that's the one. In the mean time I've been doing some seaching on BL and I think I've found it.

On Brickshelf people will have the same problem as the loading time of the pictures will be very long. Our forum software will resize big pictures, but if first needs to download the full sized pictures. So in my case that takes a few minutes. With this tool you can resize them all very quickly on your PC. Next you can put them in a zip-file and upload them all as one file to Brickshelf (Brickshelf will automatically unzip them). I hope you manage to resize because your ship looks really very promising
-
This looks like a stunning ship, but before going into the details I must ask you to resize the pictures as I can hardly load these with my Internet connection. To avoid this we have set the maximum picture width on our forums to 800px. If you need help for resizing pictures, then check out our tutorials. There's one to resize individual pictures and one to resize them in batch.

This is an extremely well build MOC Svelte. I could sum up all the things I like, but that would lead us too far. The color scheme is wonderful and nothing about this creation is boring. LEGO will have a hard time doing a better job with their upcoming modular building. I'll be closely comparing it with your MOC and in all honesty tell you which one I like most.

I have been waiting for the BS gallery to go public to look at some bigger pictures and different angles. Tonight it finally went public and I've spend about 15 minutes looking at all the amazing details you've put into this. No matter which side you look at, it's all well worked out with a lot of eye for detail. I'm very impressed with this! If only I could understand how the door is constructed...

Yes you can, but you have to give the ship a non-violent mission. When it's on a peaceful mission of exploration or trade you can for sure submit it for PTV2.

Thanks Cagri for posting this! I don't know if they normally do this, but this time they shared it with the Ambassadors. Did they change something to the dark red? I'm building a MOC with a lot of Dark Red and I'm having problems finding bricks with consistent colors. Some dark red looks totally different than other dark red and it's giving me a headache. How on earth can I still buy dark red bricks on BL and expect to get the same color?

I'm fortunate having seen this extraordinary MOC at LEGO World. Will you display it at Brick Mania?

Eurobricks member Athos has started a discussion on innovative roof designs. Have you ever seen or invented a special roof technique? We like to hear all about it in this thread.

I'll be visiting the Brick Mania event organized by BeLUG. Anyone else coming?
