It's amazing what a few extra pieces can do to a model. Well done!

This is the problem that I have with hourglass torsos: A Fabuland sweater! What a great throwback to the golden age of LEGO! I know that a lot of the Eurobricks mods here are fans of Fabuland, so they'll probably want to use that torso on their own custom minifigures. Unless, of course, you don't want your custom figure to look like they have huge hips and no waistline. Look, the only thing that I'm complaining about here is the overall quality and look of the figures. This "Fabu-Fan", as she's called, doesn't even look skinny; just really squeezed in the middle. All that I'm saying is that hourglass torsos should be reserved for minifigures who they actually look right on; Wonder Woman being a prime example. Note: I got the picture of the Fabu-Fan from Brickset. I don't know if it's copyrighted, but if it is, the mods can just delete this post.

LEGO giving us the Mouth of Sauron and not the Witch-King would be like Marvel making an Ant-Man movie instead of a Deadpool movie. Wait a second...

Smaug just looks incredible. I'm still wrapping my head around how you used those gold coins.

This looks incredible. I love the way you've arranged the minifigures. -
LEGO in Film & TV: Index of Appearances
Lancethecat replied to Izzy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In The Lego Movie, a cityscape built out of LEGO bricks can be seen in Finn's basement. -
At first when I saw the Pirate Ship Ambush set, I thought that LEGO was just planning on keeping the theme going for a few more years and wanted to mix sets based on unimportant scenes with more popular sets so they wouldn't run out of material to work with by the final wave. I'm still holding onto a glimmer of hope that that's the case; it would just be weird for them to release the ship from the Minas Tirith scene but not Minas Tirith itself.

Hourglass torsos are fine on minifigures who are supposed to be wearing form-fitting outfits, like Wonder Woman and Black Widow, but if they're wearing a jacket or a sweater (the new scientist, April O'Neil), they just look stupid. When is LEGO going to realize that 'female' does not necessarily mean 'skinny'? Whoever is in charge of minifigure design probably isn't sexist, but they definitely need to rethink their approach at designing female figures. LEGO minifigures are supposed to be blocky. It's just the way they are. If LEGO really wants to make minifigures look realistic, they can just switch all of the figures in all of the themes with Friends minidolls.

A polybag with a dwarven warrior and a rocky outcropping for it to hide behind would make a great army builder to complement the Battle of the Five Armies set.

I forgot to mention Jabba! He probably counts as a bigfig as well, even if he doesn't have any feet. If we're doing Star Wars/LotR comparisons now, I'd say Jabba is the Goblin King of Star Wars (or the Goblin King is the Jabba of The Hobbit... now I'm all confused).

Licensed figures being based on concept art
Lancethecat replied to KingPixels's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think that the Attack of the Wargs set from the Hobbit line would have been a lot more successful if it had included Azog instead of Yazneg, who was originally going to be the primary antagonist in the movie. Then again, maybe the new Dol Guldur Battle (which includes Azog as an exclusive figure) wouldn't be doing as well if that were the case... -
Does anyone else think it's kind of strange that we'll receive two (or three, if Elrond gets a new print) exclusive figures in an £11.99 set? LEGO usually puts the highly-sought after exclusives (like Galadriel and the Witch-King) in bigger, more expensive sets, unless they don't plan on making them exclusive for long... maybe we'll get another Galadriel in a future LotR set?

The only bigfig that I own is the Goblin King from the Goblin King Battle set, but my favorite one is definitely the Rancor. Which one is your favorite? Are there any characters you'd like to see as bigfigs in future sets? These are all of the bigfigs from licensed sets that have been released in the past few years: Hulk (Marvel Superheroes) Green Goblin (Marvel Superheroes) Cave Troll (Lord of the Rings) Goblin King (The Hobbit) Wampa (Star Wars) Rancor (Star Wars)

Great review! This set looks incredible, and I especially love the picnic that's included, but there's just one thing that puts me off: the price. I have a LEGO convertible from the Creator line that's the same size and is $60 cheaper than this Mini Cooper.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Lancethecat replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
The first time I saw these new MIchael Bay turtles, I thought they looked repulsive, but after looking at your reviews, they've really warmed up to me. Sure, they may not look as 'clean' as the cartoon turtles, but I understand that they are supposed to emulate the CGI turtles in the new movie, which is supposed to be darker and grittier. -
Which Themes Deserve a Reboot?
Lancethecat replied to Lancethecat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LEGO proved that it could make really good modern Western sets when it released the Lone Ranger product line last year. The fact that it was tied to a movie that bombed at the box office may have hurt sales a little, so I think that a new, generic Western theme would be a lot more successful. Especially if they remade Fort Legoredo (fingers crossed!).- 438 replies

I have heard awesome things about the Spider-Cycle Chase set. Lots of people have called it their favorite set in the entire Spiderman line. Plus, it was released before the other two sets, so it will probably be retiring the soonest.

For a Super Mutant, you might want to try out Killer Croc from the older Batman theme. The zombies from the Pirates of the Caribbean line look like they might make for good Rancor minions. If you have good faith in your MOC'ing skills, try building a brown, brick-built figure with axle holes on both sides to put the Rancor's arms in. That way, you'll have a unique-looking mutant overlord that still bears some similarities to the actual Rancor.

LEGO has introduced a lot of great themes over the years, only to cancel them after one or two waves. Are there any themes that you would like to see reintroduced, but this time with updated minifigures and building techniques? Personally, I'd take Alien Conquest and Monster Fighters over permanent themes like Legends of Chima any day.

What is the best £/$ 20 superhero set
Lancethecat replied to Peasantseverywhere's topic in LEGO Licensed
You really can't go wrong with the Superman vs. Power Armour Lex set. I'm not even a big fan of Superman and I still love this set. Three exclusive figures and a variety of interesting parts, all for just $20. I imagine it will be retiring soon, so get it while you can. With a few exceptions (the Black Zero Escape is a mishmash of ugliness and the Extremis Sea Port Battle is just bland), the $20 price range for superhero sets has been solid gold so far. If you're still not sure which set to buy, just go for the one with your favorite characters in it.- 18 replies

Best/Worst designed licenced minifigure ever?

Has anyone already mentioned the Clone Wars version of Chancellor Palpatine? That figure's face is so evil that it will sear your eyeballs out if you so much as glance at it. -
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Wow, how did you find this? Is it supposed to contain every set for the entire year, or just the spring and summer sets? -
I'm missing a turtle torso too... that makes six of us! But I don't mind, though- free LEGO is free LEGO, and that's good enough for me.

Right now I'm looking for a set in the $20-$30 range. I've heard good things about the Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape and LEGO Movie Ice Cream Machine, but are there any others that deliver good value? Any theme is fine with me, as long as it isn't Chima, TMNT, or Friends. P.S. Right now I have the Unexpected Gathering and Goblin King Battle, so I might buy a LotR or Hobbit set to expand my collection.

Best/Worst designed licenced minifigure ever?
Lancethecat replied to Santaduckz's topic in LEGO Licensed
Best: Bofur and Bombur from the Hobbit line Worst: Some of the flesh-colored figures from Harry Potter a long way back had pretty awful faces, such as Ron and Hermione. Looking back at Squidward Head-stuck-in-a-pickle-jar Tentactles, it's hard to believe that he wasn't originally molded like everyone else.
