Great use of the robot arm as webbing!

75915: Pteranodon Capture- the Tower Takedown set was pretty poorly designed, but this set has some nice figures and a pretty reasonable price, too. 75916: Dilophosaurus Ambush- the new(ish) dinosaur and the gyrosphere make this set a definite win. 5885: Triceratops Trapper- I agree that this and the Raptor Chase set are pretty different from one another, but this set has a completely exclusive dinosaur mold and looks a lot more impressive. 5886: T-Rex Hunter- I'm giving the edge to the helicopter simply because it looks more interesting, but if we were including the Dino Attack sets in this battle, I'd vote for T-1 Typhoon vs. T-Rex. 75919: Indominus Rex Breakout- This was a close battle, but the I-Rex set wins for having an exclusive dinosaur mold and a cooler design. Overall, it looks like Jurassic World wins, but Dino puts up a pretty good fight. No report yet on how accurate the sets are to the film, but I'm planning on seeing it when it comes out next month.

Right now, the Disney Infinity Xbox 360 Starter Pack is 40% off on Amazon, and the 2.0 version is 70% off, so I think we can expect LEGO Dimensions to be steeply discounted if we wait another year or so. Then again, LEGO doesn't usually depreciate on the market as quickly as other products, but we can hope...

I kind of like stickers because they have more versatility than printed parts. I think that most of the Mixels are pretty poorly designed. I think that nowadays's sets blow older sets from the 80's and 90's out of the water in terms of detail and design. That recent Hulkbuster Smash set looks like it was made by MegaBloks. Edit: Sorry, I meant the Hulk Lab Smash set. The Hulkbuster looks pretty good. LEGO video games are less LEGO video games and more bendy-armed minifigures walking around generically simple CG environments. Rehashed velociraptors and another Chris Pratt figure do not justify charging $50 for a boring truck. LEGO need to realize that their Ideas sets are extremely popular and stop making limited releases! Gee, I sure do have a lot of complaints, don't I...

LEGO has released two different dinosaur-based themes over the last three years: the stand-alone Dino theme in 2012 and the Jurassic World theme based on the upcoming movie. Not surprisingly, a lot of the sets in each theme are pretty similar (you can even go back further and draw comparisons to 2005's Dino Attack sets). I've put each of the sets head to head based on their price range; which ones win the battle? 5883: Tower Takedown vs. 75915: Pteranodon Capture 5884: Raptor Chase vs. 75916: Dilophosaurus Ambush 5885: Triceratops Trapper vs. 75917: Raptor Rampage 5886: T-Rex Hunter vs. 75918: T-Rex Tracker 5887: Dino Defense HQ vs. 75919: Indominus Rex Breakout

Both ships are supposed to be microscale, as if they're far off in the background. I haven't quite gotten the hang of perspective yet.

From the Diary of Captain Abraham Mayhew, July 14,1733 It has been eight days since my ship crashed upon the rocks of this desolate island. I have found an abandoned garrison stocked with supplies and weapons and am now patrolling the roof, searching for passing ships on the horizon. I raised the old pirate flag I always kept hidden in my cabin this morning in hopes that it may be noticed by a sharp-eyed sailor, but these waters are infrequently traveled and I fear I may be marooned here for some time. Luckily I have some company in a monkey I found stealing my lunch the other day. I have decided to call him Wilson, after my deceased father. It might have something to do with the fact that Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman would be hard to make into minifigures, but I would really like to see LEGO try.

Star Captain Star Captain likes to think of himself as the group's leader, but for the past few years he's become a recluse, sitting out missions in his hoverchair while the rest of the crew goes on adventures without him. He's thinking about retiring from the pirate life and becoming a construction worker, or maybe a raptor trainer. Lady Gamma Lady Gamma is the crew's chief weapons designer and war correspondent. Her habit of building guns that promptly blow up in their users' faces has labelled her as the 'Deadliest Woman in the Galaxy'. Roger the Cabin Boy Roger the Raccoon-Boy was found digging around in the galley's garbage chute. Instead of throwing him out or putting him in the dinner pot, the crew decided to adopt him as their cabin boy. While there's no doubt that he can cook a mean stew, the others wish that he would start wearing pants. GORT GORT used to be king of an entire race of tree-squids, but turned pirate once they realized he was selling them out to a paper company and ran him off the planet. The crew now uses him to store all the treasure they steal acquire. The only words he ever says are 'garble garble'; the others think he's just being weird, but the truth it that he can't speak because his mouth is full of treasure. Destructor He used to be called Steve the Sunny Space Skull, but after his planet was destroyed by the Dread Pirate Ronan, a venomous rage was unleashed inside him and he became known as Destructor. Wielding twin daggers, Destructor will obliterate everything and everyone in his path. He's a lot of fun at parties. Saurokan The Dread Pirate Ronan was infamous for extracting the life essence from innocent seamen and placing them inside robotic bodies, effectively building an army of slaves. The only remnant of their former lives as honest sailors is their penchant for wearing colorful bandannas.

LEGO Dimensions: Your Thoughts?
Lancethecat replied to Lancethecat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sorry ... could you please delete this topic then? -
Just today, LEGO released information on their latest major product development: LEGO Dimensions. It's a lot like Skylanders and Disney Infinity (in fact, it's exactly like Skylanders and Disney Infinity) in that you buy a starter pack which contains the main video game and several figures on stands which can be placed on a "portal" to unlock in-game characters and items. You can also buy seperate, cheaper packs which just contain figures. You can read more about it over on HothBricks. Here are some random musings I have: - You can finally buy Marty McFly's pink hoverboard. - We now know that LEGO owns the Wizard of Oz license, so we may be seeing more Oz figures or even sets in the future. - The microbuild vehicles look pretty cool, except for maybe Legolas's arrow launcher. - The Unikitty figure has a new face print! - The Starter Pack costs $100, so this entire lineup is basically dead to me now. Considering all the other things I could spend $100 on, another LEGO video game with some open-world playability and a few minifigures just seems overpriced. What are your thoughts? Do you think LEGO Dimensions is going to be successful? Are you planning on getting it?

Are we allowed to have more than two brick-built characters in our crew?

This looks amazing... have you thought about putting it on LEGO Ideas? The modular design makes it looks pretty set-friendly.

Just got my figures yesterday. Thanks again, CopMike! -
Great MOC! If you're looking for a more accurate torso for old Bilbo, the red torso from the goblin in the 2002 Harry Potter Gringotts Bank set works great.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
Lancethecat replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is hands-down going to be the best year for LEGO Marvel. Here's why: Hulkbuster for only $30?!? And it includes the Hulk? I am not joking when I say that this is the biggest steal of a deal I've ever seen in the past four years. Ant-Man's giant LEGO brick/screw catapult is just awesome. We finally get a comic-style Green Goblin figure. That $12.99 Carnage set more than makes up for last year's Spider-Trike monstrosity. -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
Lancethecat replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm guessing/hoping that the Ant-Man set will include Ant-Man, Hank Pym, and Yellowjacket, along with a small section of the lab with shrinking chamber and possibly an exploding feature, plus a giant ant for the Ant-Man figure to ride on. An Ant-Man microfigure would probably require a new mold, so the minifigure can be used in both his normal and shrunken state. -
Sets from other themes to go with Superheroes
Lancethecat replied to Zilcho's topic in LEGO Licensed
Detective's Office looks a lot like something that would fit right into an old superhero serial such as The Adventures of Superman or Batman. A lot of superhero stories often have the villain attacking the Town Hall, so that could work too. Do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets count as Superheroes sets? Those could work well too, especially if you need villain vehicles. -
Unbroken or Battle of the Five Armies
Lancethecat replied to Lancethecat's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Sorry... I didn't know if there was a topic that could fit this question. The Hobbit seems like it would be the most cinematic (the destruction of Lake-Town would look really eye-popping on the big screen), but Jackson's Hobbit movies have so far been a mixed bag for me, with things like Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug mixed up with things like the elf/dwarf love triangle subplot and Radagast's bunny sled. Unbroken sounds really interesting, but I've heard it wasn't as good as people expected it to be. The Imitation Game is by far the most well-received of the movies, but I don't think it would make much difference if I saw it in theaters or at home. -
I'm going to the movies this weekend, and I'm still not sure which movie I'm going to see. My top two choices right now are Unbroken (based on the true story of Olympic runner/World War II survivor Louis Zamperini) and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies (based on the last third of the beloved fantasy novel), but I've also heard that The Imitation Game is really good. Any recommendations?

The main reason why I have doubts that Bain is going to be a promotional DVD minifigure is that non-LEGO fans buying the DVD will have no clue who the character is supposed to be. They won't look at the minifigure and say, "Hey, that's Bard's son! I remember him from the movies!". They'll say, "Since when was Ron Weasley in The Hobbit? Is there some kind of fan-fiction crossover I don't know about?". Bilbo and Legolas are both very recognizable characters, but Bain looks nothing like he does in the movies, so there's no way for Warner Bros. to market this promotion. Giant worms? That sounds more like something from an 80's space novel than a Tolkien adaptation.
-
Are we 100% sure that Bain really is going to be included with the next DVD release? Did it say so where you got the picture, just2good?
-
The least they could have done was fix Bain by giving him a more accurate hairpiece (maybe Luke Skywalker's hair in brown). An Old Bilbo figure would have made a lot more sense, but it's pretty easy to make one yourself: you just need Balin's head and a hobbit hairpiece painted grey. The goblin from the old Gringotts Bank set has a pretty accurate torso.

Are the reviews for the 2013 and 2014 Hobbit sets going to be placed here anytime soon? P.S. Thanks again for the list; it's really helpful.
