making LDD design a reality
Herky replied to Herky's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
ok, um to be honest, I am not sure what you mean, I just started using it and putting it together, so I might be a bit lost to this...when you say LDD provides a list of bricks when you generate the building instructions...how do you generate those? Sorry, I am one of those who just did it, didn't really stop to read instructions...but I like what I did so wanted to try to build it for real. I do not see a way to generate the instructions. thanks so much for helping -
I am new at this, designed something (only 95 bricks) in LDD, is there a way to print out a list of the bricks I used so I can go to the PAB wall and try to actually create my design? I am having trouble trying to figure out how to tell what to go buy, was fun to create but I actually want to do it now. Just not sure how or where in LDD I can figure that out. Thanks to anyone for the help on this.

I wouldn't say it is out of the question, the Hobbit Hole has 6 minifigs and it is at half the price point of a modular building. But if you are going to get a delivery van in there, you would have me smiling to get fewer minifigures. I am just tired of waiting like everyone else, think I saw this was a January release? Maybe they will do 2 next year, this and then near end of year, will replace Pet Shop.

Not sure how this makes sense that we can show the instructions but no pics of the boxes...in any case, thanks for this, I had tried to show my kids the pics, only to wait and now they saw them. Appreciate the views of the instructions at least.

these are sweet, saw the Beluga's in Chicago at Shedd Aquarium, beautiful creatures, you did a fantastic job...are they solid or hollow? How big are these? Would love to be able to make one of these myself, my kids are always wondering why TLG doesn't come out with a line like this similar to the Architecture line. Animals done like yours show this can be done right and I think they would be a money maker, TLG needs to hit this site and see the amazing builds.

Appreciate reading the thoughts of where this will go, I for one would be excited to get any of your ideas, my only contribution since it is a Parisian restaurant, and it was sort of mentioned before is a bit of an homage to Ratatouille to just stick a rat in there somewhere, out back maybe, just as a bit of a humorous tilt. Really excited to get it though, for us that did not get Cafe Corner or Green Grocer or Market Street (kicking myself and don't have the $500-600 to add it now) adding this piece will make the street a much better place. I would like to see more than a waiter and chef though, give it maybe 8 minifigs, 4 customers and 4 employees.

BOOK REVIEW: Beautiful Lego by Mike Doyle
Herky replied to Blakbird's topic in General LEGO Discussion
wow, checked out his site and pics, amazing work, can't imagine the time and money to do all this, labor of love, the victorian house is very cool, just feels like you are seeing it decay, very talented guy -
As good as the Rambo is, I think the Dali is even better, just a nice job making it look so right to the weirdness of Dali. It really looks like it is dripping...great creativity.

hey Kris, welcome, saw and posted about your station, great looking build, I know where Santa Claus IN is as well, not too far from Louisville, you seem to already know the site pretty well...really like your modular "street" and train you have above as well
-
very cool, I am wondering why TLG doesn't release a station, it would make total sense for the collector base, I like the use of green space too, plus your brick wall leading into the white picket fence is great, can't imagine 10K bricks in total, great job!
-
that is very cool, I thought maybe I was going to see a guy in a black hat ready to fight crime, but this is way better, just an excellent use of the mirror effect, I see how you connected it but did you have trouble with it not tipping over? I think it is great how you get the 2 walls to support it.

wow, I was looking at this with my daughter over my shoulder, now I am in trouble, LOL, she loved it and wants me to build one, being a non creative AFOL is hazardous to my health...just an excellent job overall, every detail is a lot of fun, congrats on such a good one

MOC Architecture : The Cathedral of Strasbourg
Herky replied to DanSto's topic in Special LEGO Themes
this is great, really like the windows as well and the height to building ratio is spot on, I know TLG has their own architecture group that does designs, but I would hope they would sometimes check out sites like this to see what creativity is done by others so maybe get them thinking and while I know Cuusoo is out there too, but builds like this deserve to be made for all of us. Wonderful job -
Value of Original 1973 Instructions #730?
Herky replied to Dariusking's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have this set from when I was a kid, with the instructions...great set from back in the day, funny thing is the sets like this from the '70's do not go for much unless mint in box and even then are not bad price wise...agree with the others, for less than $5 it's not likely worth all the effort for ebay -

Where Does My Money Go To When Buying a LEGO Set?
Herky replied to Brickstarrunner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think a lot of folks gave you great info...I would only add to that to say the price per piece is probably very minimal, such as maybe 2 cents per brick. A good rule of thumb in manufacturing is that the original cost of anything you buy is likely only 25% of the purchase price...so it cost TLG 25 cents of every dollar to actually make the set, 25% goes to salaries, manufacturing maintenance, etc., 25% goes to licensing, shipping, etc and 25% is usually their profit margin. Just a guess but take a look at shoes...there is an even greater margin there, Nike makes usually 50% on every shoe that is purchased. Soda as well is even worse, you go to a store like McDonald's and get a coke for $2...the syrup and tank and straws and such...amount to 15 cents per glass, the rest is profit. -
VIP email today for Winter Village Market presale
Herky replied to Herky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
that's great news, I may end up with a few of those sets but good to know, I think the SW clone is if you buy a certain $$ point of SW items, thanks for the info on that -
I always love seeing the modular building creations of everyone...not sure I can add any more compliments other than I would buy this in a heartbeat. Great job

VIP email today for Winter Village Market presale
Herky replied to Herky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nice, yeah plan to go big in October, Sydney, the 2 winter village pieces, might get R2 or the X wing even, the points alone will end up getting the Friends ones for my kids...oh and the UN building as well -
Got an email today regarding the VIP access to purchase the winter village market but the nice thing is it did confirm that the month of October will be double points...we all knew that but with the coupon thing going on that doesn't apply to a lot of sets, I was almost beginning to wonder about that. October will be an expensive month for me, but worth it for the 2x points. Anyone else get that email?

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Herky replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Disney just pushed the 5th PotC movie back to 2016 over "Script Problems". (ie "We're terrified of making another Lone Ranger debacle") So we have an extra year to wait for new sets. Glad I wasn't the only one to read into that...I haven't seen the Lone Ranger, but heard it wasn't that bad. The media didn't like it though so it was defeated before it started. Likely not done to the true intent. In any case, I agree with the above in that TLG could produce more PotC sets if they want to keep the line going. I am a bit worried that in 2016 no one will care about PotC by then due to the long layoff in between movies. Do the licenses expire? So maybe TLG won't have the license in 2016? Wonder if TLG could maybe make a set based off of the ride even? Or wonder if they would consider doing something with Captain Hook from Peter Pan instead? -
I know when I was there last December they would not let me use VIP card at LegoLand since it is not owned by TLG, so if you mean the double points, go to the Lego Store or online.
