It's the CCBS though, so changing sizes is going to be far easier.

They blow the Nuva and Phantoka/Mistake-a out of the water, that I'm sure about. They're different in some points compared to the Mata, some things I like despite being a little odd (the new Miru, Gali's azure..), others I'm not yet sure about (Gali's...everything else, Lewa's keetorange, Pohatu's silver if it is really silver, the torso mechanism). But they're fully articulated and they have very few real problems, so there's a very high chance I'm going to like these guys more than the original Toa.One thing I'm psyched about is that we're finally getting a building system common to all the sets, so no more akward Inika towering over the Metru and Mata/Nuva (2007 onwards things were a bit more varied, but it wasn't a real solution for me). All Toa are finally going to be at the same height (roughly), as it is in-story.

I don't see how much trouble some pronouns can bring. Let Caboose do as he wishes, it's not that he's forcing others to call Onua female.

My two cents on the mask question: I'd say masculine masks (like the ones typically worn by Earth or Stone Toa) don't work on females, but feminine ones can work on more androgynous males, like Air Toa. I'd argue though, that most early Kanohi were quite genderless, except maybe the Hau. Later we got more bulky and masculine ones, like the Kanohi Nuva, the Avokhii, etc.. Is Water Protector using dark blue shells? Please let it be so. On the display they looked transparent but this is a case where I prefer the..pre-preliminary pic to be the right one.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Shakar replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Are these due for a October release? I thought it was September like the other years and so I was bummed I couldn't find them. Now I feel a bit dumb, heh.- 1,109 replies

That's going a bit overboard, but I do agree his colour scheme needs some work. I liked the subtleness of tr. purple (transparent colours are very muted most of the time) a lot more than the bright, bold lilac. Of course this might change given the early state of these sets bar Lewa and the Fire fellows. But the gold is going to stay, and I'm not sure if Iike it (especially since it clashes with his silver shoulder pads), I think I'll replace it with silver (it's going to be a problem if the chest sticker uses gold, though..).And colours aside, I used to be ok with him being bulky, but now that I see him better I'd say he's TOO bulky: Hulk chest, massive shoulder pads and bulky limb armour? That's MOC-like in the designer's dedication to make him as ripped as possible. It doesn't help his torso looks really short (there isn't even a torso shell, just a silver shoulder shell- great recolour BTW- half covered by the chest piece). Add the fact I have some..ideas for Onua, and that body build might not even suit him anymore. And, someone probably pointed it out already, but have you seen that GIGANTIC pillar behind Lewa? The other backgrounds were generic enough they could be Wahi regions, but that thing makes it clear that jungle is not Le-Wahi. Oh what the heck, why is it that I always end up starting a new page?

And, more proof that these pics are older than the display shot and some colours are going to change: the spiders in the sets without background are all grey, while we know there are three different colours (GitD, bright blue and..silver?). And sorry Grima, I didn't see your post. I'll reply tomorrow, going to bed now..

White backgrounds, eh? We're back to 2006. :P Anyway, not sure of what to think. The sets with backgrounds look final (once again, Lewa and Tahu are the most finalized ones, oh well- at least Fire Defender joins the crew), but the others don't. In fact they look like they're at an even earlier stage, on par with the new Ninjago sets (seriously, check those!). The Earth sets clearly had tr. purple bones in the display, whereas they're just lilac here. And I was pretty sure Pohatu was tan, that colour was way different than the silver bits on sets like Gali or Stone Defender....but if he's silver I'll be ok with it. For now, I'm judging the sets this way: The great: Kopaka and Tahu, they look top notch. Well, Kopaka's staff and lower legs are pretty awful, and Tahu's silver feet must disappear (just....why?) but still- those masks! These two are the ones closest to their classic forms and are awesome sets in general. Love Kopaka's big shoulder pads on top, Breakout Bulk style. The good: Onua and Pohatu. Onua is MASSIVE and has a clever weapon design. Pohatu's mask is similar to the old Kakama, he looks good and has nice colours. The Bohrok eyes are a neat surprise. Also, I do really like the Skull Spiders- very simple yet creepy (better than their Lord, actually) The "not awful, but I'll wait for better pics": Gali and Lewa. I'm totally ok with Gali's colours (azure shells! At last!) but that recycled weapon and that mask look pretty bad. The weapon might change though (see paragraph at the end of the post). Looks like she has shoulder pads built in a way similar to Kopaka's (I wonder if that hints at a new torso piece or not). And now Lewa, my favourite Toa. Since he's pretty much finalized, looks like I'll have to accept him the way he is (thethingsidoforlove.jpg). The secondary colour is an easy fix, and in any case I appreciate the fact we're getting more keetorange shells (since I have a keetorange MOC in the works, this is way more than welcome in my book). Now for the big issue, the Miru: I can't help but feel a bit trolled to see what is probably my favourite mask ever revamped in a way that looks absolutely nothing like the original form....but I can't lie, that mask does look really cool. It's a mix of alien tech and tribal looks rolled into one, which pretty much describes 2001. And, it looks pretty youthful, which fits Lewa. It's very likely it will grow on me (it already is). The meh: I still can't bring myself to be interested in the Protectors (guess it's official now). And the LoSS's legs are Technic? Awful, I'll probably get one copy for parts and that's it. Nice print though (I can finally easily make a character with eyes on their chest!). And in general, the random use of Technic annoys me- the weapons should look clean, they look MOCish this way. Second, it's official, the boring and fat 2.0 torso is back yet again (seriously come on). Finally, the biggest one.. looks like there are going to be functions. If they dont't ruin the poseability or the looks (yeah, keep on dreaming Shakar) I might keep them. The bad: we still don't know if the Defenders use the same mask or not. And It doesn't help only one got the final box..privilege. But I'm losing hope. King Vultraz the Master of Shadows confirmed for Big Bad. Late 2015 to 2018 is going to be all about alternate dimensions, with side stories told via online serials. Finally, II'd like to point out something that might give you an idea on just how preliminary these sets are. 70221 from the new Chima sets (and those pics look waay more finalized than BIONICLE and Ninjago) uses a new hooked piece on the vehicle wings, which looks VERY similar to the blade display!Gali used on the bottom tip of her weapon. I think it's very likely the final Gali set is going to use that piece, for two reasons: 1) That is totally a part made for constraction sets, and no BIONICLE set uses it in the pics. 2) For now, she and Kopaka are the only Toa without a unique weapon piece. I think both are getting one in the final sets. Kopaka's use of the Guurahk staff is just way too random (something I'd expect to see in a Matoran set, not on a Toa).

What Leewan said. It's one thing to say that some elements are going to change, of course they will, most Toa and probably even the Defenders don't have their final mask finalized and most Toa are missing their chest print (like back in 2012 with the summer Heroes). But look at past years' preliminary images (any Lego theme really), and you will find they also have the power to destro- ahem, and you'll see that aside from a few details that aren't done yet (which usually amount to, surprise, new moulds and printed elements) the sets don't change much. Gone are the days when we'd get really early prototypes like the Nuva with silver masks and Bohrok shields, Pewku the Magnificient Green Crab or Takanuva the Toa of Gold Legs. These days, due to one reason or another, we get near-to-final or even final shots of the sets. Pohatu is going to stay tan (that is tan, compare him to Kopaka) and Gali's going to stay titanium metallic. Saying that the pic is 100% to be trusted is naive and incorrect (because some stuff is obviously going to change, we know that), but saying that discussing on a large picture that shows most of the sets' details is futile is a pretty extreme thing to do. He does! He has tr. purple on his foreleg bones and on his shoulder shells. I don't get the Krana joke though. Check his right leg bone. I can't see the colour on his left leg but I guess it's hidden by the shells. More proof, the Defenders share their colour scheme with the Toa of their element (well, aside from the gold armour), and the Ice Defender definitely has tr. light blue bones on her/his legs.

Pohatu and the Stone Defender DO have tr. yellow bones, actually. I didn't realize it until someone pointed it out. Every Toa has transparent elements, except Tahu and Lewa.

I would absolutely love to see a team of Toa antagonists (I have one in my canon). I love grey characters like the OoMN members. But we'll never see one: for marketing reasons Lego has to make clearly evil looking prominent villains (spikes, fangs, claws, non humanoid builds..).

Even if they're a team, I'd still find incredibly boring. Given how much the final gold mask has changed from the one we knew (unless it turns out they're separate ones, as the TTV guys suggested), I think the theory I and others wrote about the finalized Defenders' changing their mask is a bit more solid now.If they all have the same mask, I don't see myself buying more than 2 of these guys. I really like all weapons. It was a needed change: Lewa, Kopaka and Tahu used proper weapons, but Gali, Onua and especially Pohatu did not- those "weapons" made sense only because they worked with the swinging arm function and the "knock the mask off" mini-game. Most of the weapons are related to the Toa' previous versions anyway, except I guess Onua (but it was about time we got a proper hammer!).And I think Gali in general looks great. While I'm not quite sure about her new colours yet (still..no less weird than when Pohatu became orange and Lewa became lime, I guess), I think she's the best Gali since 2001 if not the best one. Gali Nuva was ok but her mask was awful like the other Nuva masks (except the Miru and Akaku), and I like to think that "Gali" Mistika does not exist. 2015!Gali has a weapon that neatly mixes together her past ones (axe-like blades on one end, a hook on the other), doesn't look like a deformed ape and has a mask (the gold one at least, likely the final one) that looks strikingly similar to the Kaukau in MoL and in the 2003 game. Unlike with Gali Nuva and...that thing from 2008, I'd have no troubles if someone told me the figure represents a female character. I'm not that surprised though, Breez was a step in the right direction and the CCBS makes tweaking a character's body build a lot easier. And yeah, I love the new Hau. It's hugely similar to the classic one (you really can't mistake it for anything else), yet it has a more square and elongated shape that makes it look more mature, fitting for the new Tahu's bigger body. I imagine this is similar to what the designers were planning to do with the Phantoka/Mistika, before the focus groups shot their ideas down. It's subtle, but her limb bones are a slightly different shade than her shells and mask. I think she has tr. light blue bones like Water Defender, Kopaka and Ice D., while her shells are solid medium azure (like the Beasts and Thornaxx). First off, SWEET drawings! Not only they look cool, but also fairly accurate from what I can see. I don't see the earpads myself, but I think it's just a decoration, I'm sure the axle connection is going to be kept. As for the spiders, check the gold mask on LoSS- it has 4 handle bars for the claws/legs to attach, so I don't think there are any other pieces.

Gali, Pohatu and Onua clearly use 2.0 feet so I assume the other 3 do as well. The Defenders use small Beast feet. At this point I hope we get a new foot piece in summer (a shoe-like one, not a bestial one like that of the Beasts).. Which somehow reminds me, isn't it odd that the Toa' hands, aside from Pohatu, are silver (Lewa, Gali, Tahu on the box art) or black (Tahu on the stand art, Kopaka, Onua)? Seems like a wasted opportunity for new hand colours, like, oh, gold. Even weirder, Tahu and Lewa seem to have silver feet. Maybe it's another quirk limited to the preliminary sets?

Not neccessarily, the LoSS is a non-humanoid so he has different proportions. I think there's not going to be a huge size different among the 15/20 Euro sets. And not related to the price topic, but I just realized that Onua has freaking HUGE silver shoulder pads. Not sure if they're a new piece of the same used for his hammer. Anyway, they blended in so I didn't notice them until now. Onua is going to be a really big guy..for me.

LoSS is a deal at 15 Euro IMO. He's what the Visorak should've been: much more similar to a IRL spider and way scarier. I'm even tempted to buy 2... The Defenders seem a bit expensive at 10 Euro (that's the price of the Toa Inika but hey, price inflaction), but we'll see.

I might be wrong, but I see Fire as being more versatile, while Plasma is more powerful. Also, Plasma is way hotter and melts stuff, while Fire is more about burning. Finally, Fire elementals control heat as well, which is something I don't think Plasma wielders can do. I think sneaking in one or two non-main Elements could work. The problem is that some worked (Light, Shadow, Plasma, Lightning, The Green, Iron), while others I just can't take as real elements (Gravity... Magnetism.. Sonics.. but most of all freaking Psionics). I think some secondary elements could have worked as part of the 6 elements (unlockable by experienced Toa, perhaps): Lightning is actually made of Plasma, so both could be part of the Fire element (fire is a plasma, according to some articles I've read). The Green and Iron could've been part of a Earth Toa's domain. But that would've probably been too complex and made Fire and Earth Toa overpowered compared to the others. Especially in a line where Water/Ice and Stone/Sand/Earth are treated as separate elements, even though they really aren't. But I'll stop, I've already discussed this before and I don't want to sound repetitive.

The sad thing is that Sayger's first issues looked pretty sweet, I still remember how cool the Piraka looked. But halfway through 2006 he really begun to drop the ball, and by 2007 characters were little more than stickmen. What a waste.

I'd be content with a new torso armour piece that has some character, like the Breakout torso. I'm really, really sick of the 2.0 shell- it's bland, fat looking and overused.

I can't believe I'm looking at a topic titled "Bionicle". The hype is real. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) This. We'd be lucky if a Artakha set is even sand green (though it's probably a bit more feasible with the CCBS).I think this is a new mask, but I can't think of which power it might have. What could be on par with Time, Life and Creation? I don't know. A titanic eccentric inventor with a gorgeous mask and a warhammer as a weapon sounds really cool to me. I'm just not a fan of characters without a set form I guess. And good thing you posted that Aanchir. Just look at all those details on the face and the crown, beautiful! Also, the shine effect goes over the mouth area too, so no mouth hole it seems. Looks like the sets in the leaked image are really really preliminary.

That makes sense, though I doubt that plot is going to be followed upon. I think it's more likely that Artakha gets reused in a reboot, keeping his main traits (appearance, powers, abilities, etc..) but with a somewhat different story role. That's true as well.Of course this is just speculation, since we don't even know if the new story will use Artakha. Either way I'd really like to see him some way, I find him such a cool character. It's really a pity we never got a set of him (we could've had him instead of those vehicles in 2008, dammit! /endrant).

It does really have the Kanohi look, it has lots of details unlike the fairly clean (in a mostly good way, I mean) HF and Glatorian helmets . And it changed a lot from the leaked pic version: it's far less evil, more refined, with more decorations and a noble, almost divine look. If this an indication of the quality and level of detail of the Toa masks, they're going to be amazing. Maybe the Defenders/Protectors/I'll-wait-for-the-official-name mask will change a lot as well. What I can't tell is if the updated mask has a mouth hole like the leaked pic ver or it has a mouth guard. In a rather devilish coincidence (orisit.jpg), there's a surge of energy rotating right in front of the mask's mouth area. As I said back in July, the mask featuring a mouth hole would imply the new masks attach on top like all 2009+ helmets/masks. While I like the "helmet way" better, I'd prefer the classic attachment so the old masks can be comptatible with the new sets. Of course a question remains- is this a new mask or one we already know? If it's the Ignika it's almost certainly a reboot given the mask's current conditions. I wouldn't mind if it was the Mask of Creation, but that would imply Artakha was stripped of it: since he's implied to be one of the MU's strongest characters (a "top tier", were BIONICLE be a shounen manga), he would probably be able take the mask back by himself without the help of the Toa. Certainly, it's one of the best mask design I've ever seen, and that's counting BIONICLE's 10 years (ahem, 9,5) and all the mask designs they brought. I'm getting even more excited
