  1. Hoping for some new bone recolours, like orange or lime. And if the Mata colour schemes are mostly kept, I wonder if Gali will get azure as her secondary colour..they don't seem to use her light blue shade anymore, at least for constraction. This.. I don't recall seeing a clearer pic. And I certainly can't make out any details of Lewa's mask. To be fair though, since we mistook him for a Skakdi, I'd say this might be a good indication that the Miru's legendary smile is coming back.
  2. I find it rather curious no one talked about the Earth Defender who, according to the last chronicler, wears a purple mask. I think it's the reason I immediately thought of Matoran- Onepu anyone? Maybe that's what the Defenders will be. Homages to the McDonald's Matoran. That way they won't have to make new mask molds since they'd be recolours of the ones Tahu and the others wear. And mask recolours is something I'm always fine with.
  3. Jovan was black, blue and gunmetal though.. At least Lhikan was fairly obvious (the mask, the staff, the colours..). This one has nothing to do with Jovan. I think that is just a random guy really. And I guess you could consider the Rahaga as Turaga-like characters (small yet old and wise, etc..), despite the obviously different story origins. Never thought of that to be honest. I must say I kinda missed this stuff with HF. Sure, fakes don't serve any purpose, but they're fun to debunk and shows how much people are excited about upcoming sets. And the Breakout round shoulder pads do make a nice representation of the Nuva pads.
  4. How intriguing.. I never knew Turaga were called like that. In this case, these "defenders", rather than random villagers, could be the villages' champions or leaders..
  5. A rare to find polybag of a figure that only after a while was confirmed as..that character who appeared (in that form) only in a 2 year old movie. My point is, while Turaga remained as background characters, no new characters were introduced under that classificatiton. After 2004, we got LOTS of Toa and Matoran sets, but no Turaga whatsoever. No Turaga for Voya Nui (except a passing "Well, they had this Jovan guy, yes, the combo model Toa, but he died"), Mahri Nui or Karda Nui were ever mentioned. Then 2009 of course did its own thing. You could say the concept of Turaga was kind of dropped- not retconned to pretend they never existed, but close it to that. They..just..stayed..there. Some Turaga appeared in serials IIRC but that's it. Kinda like the Vahi and the Avokhii- they were a big deal during their story arcs, but they just became a background element afterwards. So I doubt that in this reboot (or at least what appears to likely be one) the concept of Turaga would be even used. Matoran have showed themselves to be perfectly suited for the leader role, so I'd say this is what we're going to get.
  6. I don't think we'll see any Turaga, ever. The last one we got was Dume, ten years ago. I always assumed most people weren't interested enough in them to buy them. I think the roles of leaders and story tellers can be fulfilled by old and wise Matoran (or Defenders, or however they'll be called) village leaders.
  7. While I'm not sure about making Onua out of all female (I guess it's probably due to how I see him as the most masculine looking one), I applaud you for working for a better gender ratio. And doing it on iconic character like the Toa Mata is quite the brave thing to do! On the MOC, she looks very organic (not as "the opposite of mechanic", I'm talking about how well the shells flow together). Pretty much how I'd rebuild Onua Mata. Using a longer claw for the middle finger is a brilliant idea. Looking at Lewa on your tumblr, he (she?) looks great! But I'd use less lime and more bright green.
  8. That's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how much it'd work. Castle/Space managed to distinguish themselves from SW/LotR (and viceversa) through subtle elements that don't exist and/or are next to impossible to pull off with constraction. The fleshie vs yellow figs divide obviously doesn't exist in constraction, and creating completely different colour schemes and patterns (licensed sets tend to use a darker, grittier colour palette) is much more harder to pull off due to the limited parts and colours of CCBS (compared to System). Chima Ultrabuilds this year sorta managed to pull it off, but that was more due to them coming out in a year where HF tried out something completely different than usual constraction (going minifig scale and almost completely dropping the elemental themes). 2012 and 2013 Ultrabuilds weren't very different than the Breakout and Brain Attack sets, aside from the heads and some printed parts. Which is probably why they weren't very successful.
  9. Since I tend to use the official story as a mere background for my MOCs and their story, I tend to change things I don't like- gender ratio being one of them. I had a female Toa of Fire in my story... now that bonkles is back I should probably try to make some MOCs out of that.
  10. I don't mind it that much really. More "Titans" mean more designs to draw inspiration from. Plus Onua is likely going to be a nice parts pack for black shells. And, thanks to the CCBS, rebuilding them into mid size figures shouldn't be hard. And I forgot about the small spiders featured in each set- if those are the Skull Spiders and the full size one is the "Lord"..that's pretty underwhelming. There's that unknown blue set, but since she doesn't seem to fit into anything I'm going to guess she's a prototype Gali.
  11. Would they do that again? Kids (and not only kids) want bad guys for their heroes to fight with. One villain to buy in multiples sounds kinda boring to me (and so it did in 2009).
  12. Yeah, now I remember. I never watched Legend Reborn so the image of Gresh creating a tornado was a pretty small one inside my head.Still, the idea of Lewa having brown in him..just too weird to me. It doesn't help that I'm not really a fan of brown. And Kopaka with gold...eh. But hey, I'm not complaining. Give me new masks and armour and I'll tweak what I don't like, as usual. Anything to get the Toa Mata back. At this point the only thing that really worries me are the masks. Mouths?
  13. So we're getting 13 sets (possibly more if Aanchir is right on his intuition- Takanuva is missing afterall..)? That's awesome. I agree the "Defenders" might be elemental entities. Lord of Skull Spiders sounds weird- he's the last set of the list, so he might be a larger set. Still, that poses a lot of questions.. is he the leader of the Skull Spiders? Are the Skull Spiders those black spiders we saw in the leaked pic? Is he the main villain of the wave/story arc/theme? If so, how do the Defenders come into play? Maybe they're small sets? But then where are the villains? Just seeing a list with names like "Lewa" or "Kopaka" is enough to make me excited, though. I think they are. The Toa Phantoka are generally well liked (though Pohatu was of course rather divisive due to his colours), while Toa Mistika are almost universally disliked, expect maybe Onua (due to his mask and more creative weapon).LOL, nevermind... the last chronicler's post makes my post moot. I'll edit this later with my thoughts. So I was right, the Defenders are small sets. The Toa seem to subtly follow their Mata forms, which is great. And, I forgot to add this but tlc's post seems to confirm it: I'm worried that Lewa, since he's called the "Master of the Jungle", might have been changed to be a plant elemental. Remember there was a lot confusion ever since 2001 about the element of green sets? Which is why, in Lego's attempt at reboot we all know as Bara Magna, green sets were given a plant/jungle theme instead. Heck even Ogrum, in a year where villains were element-themed, had a plant theme. Now that the new Lewa seems to feature brown, looks like they might have done the same this time... I can't say I'm happy, Lewa is my favourite Toa Mata, but at least it shouldn't be hard to replace brown with lime..hopefully.
  14. Maxilos is a special case- it was a large scale set so designers could come up with a more complex torso system. I'm talking about full waist articulation to be directly integrated into the CCBS- with all the opportunities of modularity and resizability (think medium and large versions of the torso) that would bring. But I agree, I doubt we're getting something this big next year. Since we were talking about poseable fingers, I simply added that those and waist articulation are the two last benchmarks in terms of articulation constraction figures have yet to reach. Other major benchmarks I recognize were head/neck and knee articulation (reached in 2003 by the Rahkshi), elbow ariculation (Nidhiki in 2004, I think), better arm/shoulder articulation (Piraka in 2006). I'm not even sure if Lego plans to do that anyway. But then again, long before 2011, I thought the same about one absurd idea some MOCers proposed: a fully customizeable frame with special shell pieces to build a figure exactly how you want it to be? Really cool idea, but I'm not sure if Lego could ever bring themselves to completely drop BIONICLE's building system and produce such a huge plethora of parts...right? Right?
  15. Nice tidbit, too bad its canonicity will end up being ambiguous as usual. I guess some might find this a bit too strong to read, so I'll spoiler tag it just to be safe: It seems the victim itself is turned into a Beast in Lego's version though. I guess both I and Lego were somewhat inspired by the Aliens we all know and love.
  16. I meant full waist articulation, yes. The main problem seems like it'd be the upper torso falling down (which is what many people complained getting on Pridak, though I personally never got that issue), yes. That would require a completely new upper torso and waist pieces, one of them ending in a ball joint and the other incorporating a high friction socket joint into them (basically like the friction joint extenders 2012 introduced). That's what I'd do. Nice Matoran, Aanchir! The arms seem a bit too stiff to me though. Maybe you should add the shortest bone between those and the shoulders? Also, I'd remove the robot arms on his feet- the toes on the foot piece (Jaw Beast's feet are spot on BTW) are enough IMO.
  17. I wouldn't call them CCBS hands since they've been around since the Glatorian (HF just perfected them) but yeah, I agree. I wrote something about that in the HF topic. The clunky hands on the Summer Beasts just confirm that we need new hands with poseable fingers. Really, fingers and waist articulation are the last two major steps dividing the constraction sets from perfection.
  18. @Gata I know, it just seemed like a really weird and random thing to do : P
  19. Man, the art of the instructions mini comics is so cool. The Beasts just look fantastic. Edit: holy crap I just realized. On the usual "Regroup the pieces for a better build experience" page, the minifig kid is building a Hero with red 4M shells and a red 2.0 torso shell. Which are pieces that do not exist. What?
  20. Yes, I agree! The XT4 torso seemed almost tailored for that but they never followed on that. I'd love to see some Matoran or small mook villains like the Bohrok Va.
  21. Great news. Here's hoping there's a good balance between small and mid size set (small sets can really shine, see the Breakout villains) and one more Titan.
  22. Not necessarily, we've been getting 7-8 sets per wave since the Summer Breakout wave (10 and 8 in 2012, 8 and 7 in 2013 and the same in 2014).Of course, it was in a year when Lego begun to severly cut the budget for HF, only to get worse in 2013 and 2014. Also, HF's debut wave had a whopping 14 sets. So BIONICLE might get a big wave as well, only to drop to 7-10 depending on how much Lego decides to invest on it compared to HF.
  23. Meh, I'll just revamp Takanuva into a Toa-size character. Good thing that it's pretty easy to do with the CCBS. The blue character being a Toa of Lightning definitely makes sense. Especially becuase it ties into the hereos/villains balance: Tahu+Takanuva+Blue toa+one of the sets on the top row = 4 good guys Spider+Skakdi+one of the sets on the top row = 3 villains.
  24. Yeah, that is what I was talking about. The pieces that use two small pins to connect.
  25. IMHO, specialized armour pieces were one of Bionicle's most annoying things and would be the downfall of CCBS. I say keep it is as it is- keep the plain shells, while introducing new two-pins add-on that have a certain personality while still being versatile enough.
