  1. Couldn't agree more, as a young child I also wanted toys that represented the real world at it's best...
  2. Marco, your models look impressive! The 656 and 424 are 2 of my favourite models and you captured the looks perfectly. Do you happen to know if they were used for international transport?
  3. I like it !!! It would blend it perfectly with the farm theme from a few years back.
  4. I'm not a huge fan of Norh American based locomotives/trains, but from my point of view set 60052 was way more refrishing than this one. Besides the BNSF loco 10 years ago and the maersk train last year LEGO has never produced a widely available, powered American styled diesel. The cattle wagon sure is a bit basic, but at least it was something completely new for LEGO. To bad LEGO did not see this as a chance to produce a simple city traktor or small farm, oh well. The other 2 cars are indeed plain flat beds, but the load/cargo is a great add-on for the whole LEGO city, now we just have an other helicopter, whoohoo...
  5. With some minor adjustments the Jeep will look spot on, and, after some bricklinking, I'm sure I will be able to add a JP1 Jeep to the fleet. Also, the dilophosaurus looks excellent!
  6. If the cargo train comes with the blue crane and remains a sub 100 euro set, I will buy... For the parts. The more I look at it, the more is dislike it. To me, this train is proof of a lack of inspiration and, tbh, bad and lazy design. The flatbeds aren't much more than a train base plate + standard axle and boogie and no more than 10 bricks attached on top. The freight it is carrying is even less overwhelming, ok, de rail digger makes sense, but a helicopter? I know some trains transport them, hence, airplanes, tanks and other rare loads are transported by rail, but it makes no sense adding this to a train set.
  7. If this set was just the engine + 3 coal hoppers and a crane people would be more excited than they are now. I don't like it, sorry LEGO...
  8. I know this thread shouldn't become a wishlist, but hey, it's still fun to talk about things we'd like to see LEGO produce. Playmobil has had a safari/zoo theme for euhm, forever, so I don't really understand why LEGO doesn't give it a go. They already have a lot of animal molds they could use and even the old elefant mold looks good IMHO. Just make it a 5 set theme and see how it goes from there.
  9. This looks outstanding! Well done.
  10. Hi again Just a quick question, what is the part number for the wheels you used? Thanks !
  11. I just bought 31026 today and build it this evening (approx 90 min building time). It was on discount (60 euro) in a local toy shop, and for a 1000 piece set that's a very good deal. It was a fun build with some nice building techniques but, even better, it is a great parts bin for MOCs, esp. for windows (36) and doors (5) and 2 hatches. I'm going to have a look around to see if I could find them even cheaper and if I do, buy some more.
  12. Very nice build! I always look forward seeing your new creations, even tough they are mocs, they look like a more detailed city set and blend in well with the existing city line. It's a shame LEGO does not put this level of detail in smaller sets.
  13. I have to agree, the sets from the '90 were very nice. But it is not fair to compare these already, we have no idea what exactly is included, not do we know what minifigs we are getting. Furthermore, I have a feeling that not every set was shown in the pictures. We need a closer/more detailed look on the subs/boat/heli before we can say much more about them. I think I will only be getting the ship and, if there is a submarine set, I'll get of if the sub looks realistic.
  14. When working on such a restricted area, IMHO it's more fun building a shunting yard...
  15. The city square does look nice, but way to expensive at 180 euro. Like mentioned by other, this set should be divided in three, they'll set a lot more I think. The divers theme... well, I just it. I don't need the helicopter, hence, I don't even understand why a divers team needs such a large rescue helicopter, but the subs, expedition vessel and sunken ship look great. I like the fact that they chose a cargo carrier/fishing boat as a wreck and not an old wooden (pirate) ship. The sunken ship seems to give a lot of useful part for mocing a second ship. Also, if this is a sub 100 euro set, that'll be great! On a side note, I like the palmtrees like used on the pirate display.
  16. The fourth one from the middle row is NOT a Jeep but a Mercedes G Lang ;)
  17. I know, but the colors from the friends theme do not always go well together with the city line.
  18. That's indeed what a lot of people do, but, the trouble with the creator buildings is that it is always some kind of family home. You always end up with: city line: policestations firestations railwaystation a port (which almost only consists out off a crane and dock) creator line: family homes (in many forms) Why not make a decent: post office bakeshop coffeeshop pizzaria clinic veterinarian's house/clinic a farm an airport with control tower and one or 2 gates + check in pharmacy docter's house They could do all kinds of building that have the same level of detail as their vehicles or creator houses, I don't see why they don't do this. Yes, I know, we can moc all of these, but for kids (and their parents who don't always do mocs) it could be nice to have something else than a little buidling smaller than a truck. This all sounds so negative and by no means do I want to say LEGO doesn't do an effort, but I think they don't focus enough an every-day life.
  19. I never bought any of those sets (town/city square) for the reasons stated above. You just end up getting a bunch of vehicles and some small building. LEGO should really put some focus on city buildings instead of vehicles.
  20. Wasn't there a gap between the super chief and the bnsf? I know they aren't officially creator sets, but still, I tend to see them as such.
  21. That's what struck me too, normaly I always buy the cheap, entry level set just to 'get a feel of the new theme'.
  22. If you already have 9V track and a 9V engine, just go on from there. Don't let the difficulty of adding a PF (or even 9V) motor to the locomotive bother you, very often you can add the motor (PF or 9V) to a piece of rolling stock, a carriage or a tender. I too had to start from scratch, I had a bunch of 12V stuff (grey track, center rail pick up) that IMHO was not offering enough detail. I chose (in 2009) to go for a combination of 9V and PF. I only use metal 9V track. Often, I bought a complete 9V set from ebay, kept the motor and track, and sold the remaining parts. I took some time, but I has cost me a fraction of the cost from just buying 9V track and motors.
  23. I'm very curious. With such high prices it better be good.
  24. Is is just me or is 29,99£ for the cheapest set a lot of money? I'm used to LEGO selling some intro set (or even of poly bag) for 10£... Just to give people a taste of a new theme/line... Hope they are worth it (high brick count), I don't want to pay for a license only.
