  1. Thanks for the comments all! Those 'mirror' pieces only come in 1x2 plates to my knowledge, so I can't replace what I have right now. As for the grey slopes, like I said above---the real Bugatti Veyron has silver scopes in the back, so they grey stays, no exceptions (unless I get my hands on metallic silver)
  2. Those examples are simple enough; If you want to avoid Bricklink, you might wanna look at CREATOR sets. For example, the 6754 Family home has a metric crapton of much need tan bricks for most MOC buildings, fair amount of windows, another crapton of 1x1 grey tiles and red roof pieces, plus a big baseplate to boot. Almost 1000 pieces for $60. Along with Bricklink and scoring jackpot on LEGO store pick-a-brick walls, I look at CREATOR sets to get some pieces.
  3. Thanks all! They definitely make the best Pizza, fo' sho :D I've definitely thought about a large pizza sign, maybe in a later upgrade hehe (Still dont know how I'd implement it)
  4. While I don't have much preference for tires (I mainly use the typical CITY tire), but black wheels are just all sorts of badass.
  5. Cafe Corner planted the idea in my head Inception-style; Green Grocer sealed it for me. A 9-year layoff all-in-all, though it was actual about 12 years ago when I started to quit with Town Jr sucking even for an 11-yr old
  6. Thanks for the comments! Good to see people still seeing what is my first big modular style MOC
  7. Whoa, my Bugatti's back from the dead (thread!) The door is made of this: -> http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/30414, then attach a 2x4 plate + tile on it
  8. Police is expected, but I'm not too hot on the Space subtheme. 2nd half of 2010 had some great great civilian sets (the twin Semi's, house, Public Transport etc) so LEGO not having civilian-themed sets to start 2011 shouldn't be surprising or disappointing either. Wonder if they'll keep 7236 around?
  9. Yep, this is from the minifig station in LEGO stores. You get 3 figs for $10 USD (steep!)
  10. So finally the rest of the CITY sets hit the colonies. Now which do I still have to buy: 3180, 3222, 8403, 8404. Yep...
  11. I picked this set up a week ago. 3221 -> $35 USD 7848 -> $40 USD Basically, a small building in a 8x16 plate and an extra (female!) minifig for an extra $5. No brainer. This is a better deal than 3221. Plus it has a blue truck. We already have lots of yellow vehicles.
  12. I build modular style nowadays. Classic's for lil' kids Just kidding. I was in a 11-year Hiatus with bricks until the Cafe Corner and Green Grocer gave me a one-two punch and harassed me back into collecting LEGO. If I never stopped collecting since my childhood days (as in, Town didn't get grossly terribad in the late 90s/early 00s) I'd probably have a big classic-style collection such that GG and CC won't make it into my ranks. Of course there are still super-detailed 'classic' style that is a cut above the normal town/CITY sets if you call it that: Town Square, Winter Shop, that Medieval market thing (in integrates well into a city theme) and I probably would have gotten those whether I'm a pure classic builder or big modular builder.
  13. There's a bunch that are sooo good. I collect and MOC buildings in big modular style, so the CITY buildings won't do much for me. But the vehicles... all of them are just about fantastic. Octan Truck, LEGO truck and its TRU brother, Public Transport (collection of vehicles basically), so hard to pick just one. So I just went with something I have 6 copies of... voted Small Car!
  14. Wow, is this set stateside yet? I am disappoint at the price, but they're so good. I didnt care much for the tram before, but now that I see it's train-track-able, my opinion of it just went up. The summer wave of CITY's so damn good.
  15. Wow @the details they were able to pack into that tight floor area. The interior bits are just great. As a town collector, I'd be stupid not to snag one of these, even if I don't fool around much with 'classic' style anymore. It's just a nice set with great/new pieces.
  16. Price/piece ratio: -Both have more than 500 pcs, but imagine the Beach House is officially $10 cheaper, and $16 cheaper if you buy it on Target. Advantage: Beach House Piece variety: -Apple Tree House gets strong points for its unique blue roof, and a good amount of light greys. But the bright green plates, well, suck. Beach House ain't all that with the yellow color, but it works fine. I'll five a slight advantage to Apple Tree House. Playability: -They're both not that playable when you compare it to other modulars or even CITY sets. ATH has a sad excuse for stairs, but the cool garage makes up for it. Outside, they have little things: BH has the grill and patio, ATH has the bball court and the lawnmover. The Apple Tree looks better than the BH's small tree. Again this goes to ATH. Appearance: -I like CREATOR houses, so I like them both lol. BH really does look like a Beach House with all its big glass windows, while the ATH is more suburban. So it depends on settings, but I declare a tie. Alternate models: -Most of the alternates between the two are fine, except for that sad 3-story apartment from BH, which is more in-line with 80s-90s town set than a CREATOR theme. ATH is clear winner. Overall I think ATH is the better model when you build it as is. But when I MOC and I need parts, I turn to BH because it's cheaper and has some pretty good parts itself.
  17. Epic all around. The street is just flat out amazing. And of course so is this MOC. Looks like something you'll see in Rodeo Drive.
  18. Nice! I like the TRU truck better than the LEGO truck (thanks to the store). The small TRU accessories and stickers is MOCfodder for me. As for the gun controversy (circle)knee-jerk, meh, don't care, really. After all there's that brown bear. Remember, black bears run away from you, brown bears run at you.
  19. I'm thinking of getting another one. One to increase my GG to 4 floors. Quite literally, it was this set, not Cafe Corner, that tore me out of LEGO obscurity and increased my inventory piece count to around 15000 in less than a year. Best big modular ever, the most pieces out of all them 4 (or 5)
  20. Probably still there. Only problem is that that particular PaB wall is about 7 hours drive away
  21. Wow, I was on a PaB wall not too long ago and didn't take a single dark grey box... and now I realize you can use it as columns Damn nice use of the pie and a great MOC!
  22. Very nice. looks and feels like a real hospital. Interesting wall technique on the back as well. If I may suggest something, you need a helipad.
  23. modular style, guys? I think the floor-by-floor building of modular system has great playability. In fact even CITY sets feature this (though they still have open backs) If this is cheap I'll get a few copies... if not cheap ($50+) then I'll only get one
  24. ^Thanks, always an honor to be blogged in Classic-Town!
  25. I like that the hull is built by bricks and pieces. I had the blue ship from 6541 so this MOC makes me a bit nostalgic as well. I hate all the bathtubs that the new CITY boats come with.
