really? i see sail barge selling for almost 2 year straight now. i kinda doubt that though. i think it depends more on which sets are selling. for eg, HP castle just came on board some time in may. i know it came together with the castle sets. but it went on clearance in oct, hardly 6 mths later. the SW sets however are still selling strong. ILC, y-wing, which were available since Nov 06 and are still available at MSRP. i think it's just some of these sets don't sell and were cut off. best example: avatar vs spongebob. why is spongebob still available and yet avatar is gone? both were released approx the same time, and yet avatar was put on clearance in less than a year. but i agree with you on one thing though. retailers recycle sets. even best selling sets end after 1 year usually. target recycles at least annually. TRU recycles annually and biannually for really good sets. walmart recycles between 6 mths to a year. i can already tell that sail barge is going to be the new 4504 MF. TRU is now retailing that set for $80. it first sold in jan 06, and it is still carried in TRU stores now. this is one of those really good sets. target cut that off beginning jan 07, and walmart was like aug 06. i think the main reason for such a quick turnover here is the consumer market. everything has to have a cycle or else sales and clearance will be meaningless. what's the point of "clearance" if they just reappear next year? it creates an urgency for the consumer to buy now before it is all gone!!! there have to be an urgency that once finished they will be discontinued. so each year, manufacturers have to come up with something new. take halloween costumes or festive candies. why put on sale halloween chocolates and candies when in 2 month's time you will need them for christmas again? chocolates and candies dont expire in 2 months. it's only the packaging anyway... chocolates are still chocolates even if the wrapper is different. it's just silly. for me, being the scrooge that i am...i buy stuff a year in advance. :-P that way i get 75-90% off on most items. :-P more bang for my bucks. :-P

well, i hardly see bionicle selling. the top 25 list is dominated by SW, city and castle. haven't seen AR on clearance yet but i'm guessing it will be inevitable after christmas. :-D it's a silly theme :-D nice as yellow parts packs though. :-P

as for me, i couldn't be happier with TLC. if every theme was a hit, i would have been far sadder because... just think of the wallet. :'-( :'-( as it currently stands, i think SW 07/08 line has too many sets as it is. i'll be shopping a lot this coming holiday season. probably single-handedly rescuing the stagflating US economy! :-D :-D :-D

wow...it's a pretty cool design. the "garage" though would be excellent as a pergola. so move that car away from there and put down some tiles. ;-) good job! i love it. *y* edit: it really looks like those cape cod houses in bergen county, nj.

Brickshelf FIND: Reuse of juniorized airplane parts
natelite replied to natelite's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
well, if it is cheap, why not? :-D for eg, i bought 2 golden tower sets from target for 12.50 the other day. 500 pieces and 4 golden katanas? that's cheap for a parts pack. :-D -
fabulous. i love the snot technique with the river bank. the rope bridge is also superbly done...though it curves upwards for some reason. ;-) the red vader helmets seem odd though. most likely i'm just used to it being a SW helmet. :-P

hey buddy, it was available and was posted about a month ago. :-P

since everyone is so obsessed with individuality and uniqueness, i'm just going to use a normal lego smilie for my sig fig because i know nobody will use it. :-P how's that for back to basics eh? :-P

i'm pretty sure there's magnet in the torso as well. the adhesive isn't very strong though, and if you want to, you can pry the torso and the hips open. do it slowly or you may crack it. i pried open the queen from the vikings chess set. unfortunately the glue deformed the studs, so the parts cannot be reused other than with the original torso. just giving you my experience in case others wanted to try.

agreed with you. it's called sensationalizing news. there was an article of murdoch where he pioneered that. i don't blame him though. i blame today's society. gossip has gone mainstream. if it's not juicy, frankly no one wants to read it. the conclusion though has already been predetermined in such cases. it's a sad, sad world we live in.

sorry, not trying to be mean here but i just couldn't make any sense of what you wrote. :-/ if you want to rant, it's not the place. i'm not sure where you got your facts from, and your comment on whopper, matthews, shrum, youtube... umm, is any of these facts? i don't even know who these people are. it's a known fact bush only watches fox news. it's a known fact murdoch is a neocon. it's a known fact wsj was bought by murdoch's empire. i don't know how you can look at that clip and say with a straight face that it's news. it's almost like a GOP advertisement. news takes views from both sides. commentators stay neutral. it's hardly neutral when they mocked the teachers to begin with. edit: besides, anyone who have kids or have to work with kids knows kids have their favorite toys or parts in the lego example. it's almost human nature to want to own stuff. and it's natural for teachers or care keepers to make sure everyone shares especially when the school paid for it because everyone has a right to use them. it has nothing to do with socialism or capitalism. it's typical of fox news to just politicize everything. it's not political to begin with as someone said earlier. there has to be some amount of civil law otherwise what's to prevent you from hogging the roads with your hummer h3 claiming "i have a bigger car so that gives me more rights to drive on the road." it's just absurd. everyone, even pedestrian has rights on the road. you don't own it exclusively. if the school owns the lego bricks, and the school is public and paid for by taxpayer's money, how can kids claim private ownership over them? is it fair to your children if they were barred from playing with them because of other bullies? i think the teachers are right in stepping in. there has to be some civility in school.

Selling my HUGE collection of boxed Space
natelite replied to DJ Force's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
wow...you kept your sets and boxes really well. my beta 1 command center is all worned out. :-P -
awesome job. i'm not sure about parts count but it doesn't seem to be materially more than the $15 sets. maybe slightly higher at $25?? but you sure showed TLC how it should be done. i always believe that a cheap set can be done right. if you add some smaller details to it and spec out the back, i think it is on par with kwi-chang's masterpieces. X-D edit: i saw how you did the cockpit. that's a fantastic job. thoroughly encased, with levers and controls. detailed yet sturdy. *y* TLC should take a page on cockpit construction from your book. *y*

fox news is owned by the murdoch clan, a huge neocon. it's the only news network that GW Bush views. is it any wonder then that the so called "news" is also so right-winged? *wacko* *wacko* just you wait...WSJ is gonna go right too. they were just bought out by murdoch. :-/ there goes the last bastian of professional journalism.

please don't steal posts. i know you're energized, but give ppl credit where credit is due. other than that, i'm cool.

Official Speed Racer Licensed Product in 2008
natelite replied to ColdBricks's topic in LEGO Licensed
i for one am glad we have a crappy theme next year. phew... am i the only one with a limit to my spending? :-D seems like most of you have a bottomless wallet or something... "stop asking for good themes!!!" :-D :-D :-D opps... i gotta go bonk myself on the head too for asking for a 5000+ pieces UCS castle (or dunamis or was that gylman...who's the castle freak?? )... lol SW, IJ, castle, city. so far so good. good themes off! :-P -
hmm, he stole your pictures, he stole your id, he posted like he is you. could it be your little brother? :-P light humor aside... WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??? okay...now that i got that off my chest, i can move on.... :-D :-D

we prefer TLG because TLC stands for tender loving care. ;-) or tomato lettuce and cabbage, whichever one comes first. ;-) while expanding the SW universe is fine, my wallet can't keep up. they should slow down a little. :-P i already limited my purchase to only the lines i want (only 3 lines for 2007 vs in 2006 where i was dabbling in almost anything lego) and even at this rate, i'm coming close to dangerously bankrupting myself. :-P TLC is on steroids for 2007/08.

hmm, i checked ebay recently and it seems the chrome gold c-3p0 is falling in price. you can get from bl for $150 or from ebay too for $150. some of those on auction stated that they were distributed in the san diego comic con. if that's the case, i would expect lots more than 10,000. anyone who attended SDCC know if everyone got one or they were raffled away or something?

well, in this day and age, you can go dutch ya know. ;-) TGFWL. thank god for women's lib!!!

some of you may know stikfas, the 3" super articulate dummy. well, here's brickfas, the lego version. pretty good techniques i must say. but what do i know? i'm just an amateur. :-P not sure how sturdy the construction is. if it is as sturdy as the original stikfas, then i must say it's pretty good. *y*
