I think the ears might be more noticeable than you're giving it credit for. It is your opinion so I don't wanna say I know better - but in my experience, waiting for some more angles pays off. I didn't like the spartan until I saw a review of him - the helmet was much better and entirely different from how i'd been seeing it. There are definitely ears on that, I thought they seemed proportional and everything. But I agree entirely on the face - should be more serene. -

I thought so too - or at least a more cobbled looking spear. the spartan spear is far too advanced in make for a tribal civilization. Haaaaaaaaahahahahahaha yes. What's your idea of an elf? I thought this was a great quality design... -

I'm a sucker. I came in wanting to give individual criticisms to each fig but I like em all too much. I do have to say I'm waiting for some of the ones that were reported in error: Painter with brush, beret, and pallete and Ballerina. Sumo: Much in the vein of the mexican wrestler fig, the sumo is just a zany fixture of pop culture (i think the appeal is combination of the aggression of a fighting sport but looking too silly to intimidate anyone), but also classical - definitely worthy of the line. I only wish they had done a fat body mold. Samurai: I know there's a lot of reuse, but li'l samurai here deserved it, more so than the ninja and explorer. Epic perfection. Native American Chief: Not sure about him. I already have the classic Chief - this one seems like the face and headdress are much cleaner than the torso design - detail discrepancy. Fisherman: I love the way he turned out to be a commercial fisherman. perfectly done, real Jaws-y - and I like that we're getting an official midlength beard  Tennis Player: Adorable. If you like any of the other female collectible figs, this girl is just your type My favorite hair returns, awesome racket. the print is outstanding. Batter: Love it lots. the shirt and hat are actually the highlights for me over the bat, but that'll come in great too. Arm the town to fight my single zombie Gorilla: I love the body. the head isn't great but it does the job. We do need a fig in a banana suit to complement don't tell me that wouldn't make a great lego fig. Racer: He's nothing special. Snowboarder: I dig her. I was worried in series 2 about the sports figs dominating the line, when we'd had an amazing variety in series one, with little theme recurrence. However the series two sports figs quickly took a place in my favorites. this is not a favorite, not nearly, but solid enough. Hula girl: A fig that needed to be, but man, a ukulele would have cinched it. Cyborg: The cyborg and the alien have way too much Lego trademark. Hardly iconic, which has been the strength of this line - very lego, yet more archetypal than specific. Neither of these figs has that, it's kind of a waste of space in this line. SCRATCH THAT, changed my mind. I love this one. that's some mean battle damage. a halfway between the spaceman and the robot is fine with me. Alien: Yeah the reuse of the squidman head is depressing. From the time I was a kid, I wanted a Lego green man - standard lego face, green eyes and antennae. that's not a tall order, is it? And I think the idea of doing a "Grey" () like everybody around here wants is just such an obvious choice. Hopefully in a later series... Pilot: Another all around winner. no new pieces but definitely not a repeat. The colors are very appealing, anyone would be proud of that mustache Rapper: Probably not even a rapper as much as a rap enthusiast, but absolutely perfect. nearly as perfect as the collectible figs series has gotten so far - he's in good company Kanye glasses, bling, and thin thin beard. mm, mm, mm. Elf: Probably a fig that was in development for Castle that didn't get to see the light of day - very glad that didn't go to waste. the print is gorgeously detailed, the ears are great , who doesn't like pointy ears? Sad that the accessories are standard - He deserved a new longbow as much as the spartan deserved a new spear. Mummy: Love the nasty green skin peeking out. If the vampire got his remake, the rest of the monsters deserve it too (cough frankenstein cough) I'm pretty sure they're 100% final. maybe not nominally, but that's very final style presentation. -
2011 Atlantis sets
SpiderSpaceman replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I agree - absolutely nothing like it. I never really liked Jawson - he's the weakest SPIII alien, in my opinion. But I love this fish monster guy. I wouldn't call him an "angler", but he's definitely something out of the deep sea. -
Sorry guys, I somehow overlooked that this was the Egypt discussion - this theme sounds awesome though. I can't wait for the winter catalog. I want some of these: could really just be this painted:

Collectable Minfigures: Worth the Hype?
SpiderSpaceman replied to Derek's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Most definitely worth the hype for me - they've already done plenty of fun figs that I've wished for but could never happen in a theme. We'd never get a 1970s disco dancer in a set. Caveman, zombie, mexican wrestler, crash test dummy: all iconic over-the-top fixtures of pop-culture. That's what appeals to me personally. -

No that's where the automation comes in - the robots make sure everything adds up at the end of the day - and hunt you down if it doesn't. Boogie boogie boogie. -

Product Review: BrickForge Centaurs
SpiderSpaceman replied to Cygnet's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
well how else are you gonna do pastel color fantasia centaurs? -
You know I'm not saying the arm marking is a problem. I'm just trying to go with a factual approach. the ones that are complained about are the ones with the markings. I was only saying "there is a difference and I know it. I'm familiar with both set minifigs and collectible minifigs, and the one's I've found in magnet sets have mostly been set figs, but not all" If we're discussing quality we need to go with facts. not just Member A: It's not so good... Member B, C, D, E: aw man. Member F: it's good! Members B, D: hooray, "A" was wrong! then the secondhand discussers go present the "good/no good" as fact everywhere. I mean if somebody had done a definite comparison, like "The collectible figs feel like the minifig backpack material" that would have helped me understand without my own experience. I can't get that from everybody violently presenting opinion as fact. My last post is a mix of opinion and fact. "arm markings are on the figs that use different plastic" is a fact

now as for a couple more parts that really can't be used: Knights Kingdom torsos, and Dino Attack (Dino 2010) dinosaurs. Castle dragon's body, head, legs. these are the "big non-geometric" variety. have a bunch of inserts and irremovable moving parts and junk. No reason to not make those brickbuilt.

you guys always say "magnets"... every magnet pack I've ever bought was a set quality batch. the one fig out of like the 4 star wars packs I got that was a tiny bit "cheap" was chewbacca, and he was still fine. now my cousin got the same pack a little later and the Vader was definitely a little off. there i could see "ok the print's a little sloppy, here's the arm imprint thing" but mine was full quality. vintage figs and the clown collectible fig (loose leg) have a good bit to be desired - even the rest of the collectibles (though I'm very satisfied with them, I can't say there wasn't a momentary "eh they're not as hard and glossy ") Oh to the original poster, I just bought the atlantis scorpion set. that seems like the result of a bunch of bad batches and "see what you can make with all these low quality parts" - but the model makes up for it

here's one piece that truly has no alternate use: oh that and: there are different degrees of specialized. I like some for some applications but not others. some I like in nothing ^ see above I think the best of them are the generally small simple ones. or even small ones with a lot of mechanical or organic detail. other than that, plainly geometric pieces are always fine by me - even if they're big chunkers. Airplane parts irritate me. On the new airliners. no tolerance for that.

Nice topic - the disparity doesn't really bother me. the dragon kingdom is the obvious aggressor. in every set they're the ones who "aren't playing nice" . normally involving kidnapping people - and when you've got a kidnapped person to rescue, you better have sufficient people to pull that off . so that makes an automatic lean toward lions. it's all about the target audience kids, design so that any one of the sets alone is worth picking up. the reason they could pull off villain only sets in Caste (fantasy) is because they're grotesque, over the top, and entirely different from the heroes. kingdoms is two warring factions but they seem to be culturally similar. A kid won't necessarily see a dragon set and think "look at that awesome architecture, look at that awesome color scheme" - though the prison tower stood out most for me and I bought it in a heartbeat That said, yeah I'd expect another wave might balance it out a bit. I'd welcome it.

LDD on PC or Mac?
SpiderSpaceman replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
See that's me, I'm not a "fanboy", what drove me to get a Mac (as a teen) was the availability of high profile creative tools. (Actually also specifically for iStopMotion. What can I say, I was caught in the "brickfilming" craze I'd never seen a legit stop motion software suite before) I'm not claiming they weren't around for windows too, or that there aren't excellent alternative programs for Windows. Then of course once i'd had it for a while and the amount of Mac-specific software I owned accumulated, I was kinda stuck buying Macs Which is fine, they're well made, pleasure to use, pretty trusty. Oh the trustiness is also a reason I got one. My family always bought the worst possible PCs, and my mom kinda brought me up on "there are too many combinations so it's hard to know what will and won't run". I figured with the single-configuration Macs: anything meant to run on them, would. Again, nowadays I know what to look for in a PC. My old Macs are still holding up well enough that I could get an up to date Windows computer and not have to worry about losing use of my accumulated software. My only gripe about the ones I currently have (a 2006 iMac and 2008 Macbook) is the lack of a real graphics card. The part of the CPU that pretends to be a graphics card is good enough for LDD, Warcraft III, Halo, Spore, Autodesk Inventor (I run Windows on it too, but not as often) - so on and so on. However it's not good enough for a lot of things that are considered pretty low end. (LEGO Universe, Team Fortress 2) Then again I'm not really a huge video gamer, and old Warcraft III really slakes the gaming urges i do have. -
Draco's other face makes me think of Peanuts characters lovin this li'l set. I'd decided this year I'd finally collect a theme in it's entirety - was going for SPIII or Atlantis originally - switched to Kingdoms . I know that sounds off topic but the point is I'd gladly collect some HP on the side - Hogwarts architecture will go along with Kingdoms juuust fiiiiiine. And those sweater uniforms on the figs are just too cool

First sneek peak at LDD 4.0
SpiderSpaceman replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
so does not enabled mean disabled or just that it hasn't joined the ranks of official features yet? because I'd assume the first and that meets me with a predicament: keep v.3 and Universe till the cows come home or get the gorgeous overhauled v.4 and love it but miss out on all my wonderful selection "Since unlocking it, I can't imagine taking a step back to the limited pallette of regular LDD." right! exactly. now the only thing that would really keep me happy here would be if old models can load into v.4 (and I'm sure they do) and you could keep both versions of the program, build in v.3 and pop it open in v.4 for tweaking and visuals so I think we just need to figure out how to keep both programs on the same computer. that shouldn't be impossible EDIT: oops, sorry superkalle. must have typed my reply without refreshing the forum so glad we can hang onto the universe palette. you never know with software updates - sometimes the devs are finicky about what stays and what's lost. glad my beloved LEGO's doing it right -

Hahaha, I was expecting to be that impatient, but I've let other things distract me. Things like college, beautiful college girls , anticipating the new iPod Touch (I do know when that comes out ), bit of gridiron, discovered an old comic book I wanna read (Legends of the Dark Claw. it's batman fused with wolverine, you can't do better ). But believe me, I can't wait either. How many days in are we? ... Haha okay: 2 down, 28 possible release dates to go: but I'll bet we get it within 2 weeks (total guess). If it's not confidential, what kinda huge project are you working on?
