Mmm, big little wish. Transparency slider in the preferences. I could stand for all the transparent parts to show up twice as dark. some people may prefer the way it is, hence a slider to find your individual perfect level. extra: minifig ski's don't fit on minifig feet! that's gotta be fixed. also the minifig double lightning bolt is a woefully inaccurate model. I'd like to see that individual part remodeled. note plates on skis, horrid transparency render. however hold the paint tool over an already transparent part and it's a much improved representation of the real part colors. so i'd settle for a doubled up opacity

the surface screams "pick a brick" I like the support column, nice rock formation. and the harsh planet crystalline swirls are cool

My iMac strangely had Plasq Comic Life bundled on it. that's what you want 25USD, free trial for 30 days. but before you embark on such suchery, remember the words a wise man once said: source just kidding, have fun with it. the software's pretty awesome. LEGO is awesome. Comics are awesome. Best wishes.

LDD WIP (Work In Progress)
SpiderSpaceman replied to NecroViolator's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
dang, nice detail work. my whole flickr account so far is LDD models. some LOST, a LEGO Universe inspired "darkling" sculpture, the rest is from my brainchild "The Maniac Device". which is... a hypothetical video game. -
The Tragic loss of Nnenn brings this question to the forefront.....
SpiderSpaceman replied to Omega 8's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
but aren't we talking about the wing construction? they're technic panels on that little guy. i don't think that had happened until SPIII, and is really my only problem with SPIII. I guess I shouldn't like them any less than curved slopes, and they fill out the look, but it feels cheaty btw i'm 100% in love with curve slopes -
ok I think I got mine - unrealistic, but it's a wish list right? and we still have eight 3.X's to go 1. flexible elements treads and bands like someone had said before, but also hoses and ropes, and the ability to define basic paths for one. set a start and stop connection, and any pieces/locations it has to feed through. then cycle through appropriate lengths and place into the model. 2. decal browser/creator allow loading of custom picture files in the program interface. there are plenty of skilled customizers who could set up unofficial databases. more excitingly, there could be a basic vector art mode that opens full screen when you select a surface to decorate. uses same colors as the bricks, sanctioned thicknesses, has basic shapes, curves, mirror, trim, a few appropriate greebles and textures. 3. animation say somebody builds a transformer or something, and wants to be able to display the function. you could have a pop-up timeline, like in a video editor/sound mixer, but instead of channels and clips you get a new bar for each rotation you select. Using the regular rotation tool, then setting a start and end location of rotation, move and stretch the representative strips on the timeline to control duration and order of movements. loopable, or set different actions for different keys for a more interactive view mode. that's actually probably a blatant rip-off of the adobe flash workflow (never used it or other animation software, I only brickfilm ) but it seems like the way to do it. 4. 3D mouse support / motion control support the perfect positioning solution. making the onscreen element match the orientation of a physical controller. look up "playstation move" or "logitech 3dconnexion" if you need an explanation. 5. drag and drop sorting do you want to separate animals from accessories? hair from helmets? tiles from plates? or put parts you always use for robots in a "robot parts" category? this solution lets you save several arrangements, which can be picked like one picks a palette in the filters. you can pick a model or a part to visually represent each new category in the collapse mode, or even the existing categories (what does the technic projectile have to do with any of those parts ), and drag whatever you want into each. 6. fix all connections I like putting studs in technic holes. I just do. also, some of the tool wheel parts need to fit around studs, and the wrench/screwdriver (this little guy) should be able to act as an open antistud to hard-to-access stud-width geometry like on this, this, or this. minifig parts need to connect to bricks (legs and torso don't allow for any studs or tubes but each other and the heads). things need to slide through cones. heads should be able to hit any height on the neck, bodywear should stack. I don't want nasty clip-stressing battle droid arm stacking, inside out tires, rubber band connections or anything unholy like that. just let me work the geometry as is. 7. pop assemblies there can be a keyboard shortcut to break down a selected assembly. say you just want a minifig hand. you can break it loose and toss the rest back into the parts bin. 8. portable ports I want my LEGO kicks on my smartphone. virtual model viewing at least. maybe this mini ldd could link to the sorting system, and you could have "x-pod mode": sync a small selection of pieces to play around with on the run. swap out back at home. also, LEGO Digital Designer is a program that would make me buy devices I otherwise see as worthless. put LDD in the iPad and I would launch myself via lego catapult to the apple store upon release. any of these could probably only happen with a "LDD4 Pro". say LEGO set up a team to flesh out all these ideas, and sold the result for, say the price of lego studios. $150. I would buy 12 hope I haven't irritated anyone who's trying to suggest more practical features. outlandish ideas float around in my head.

well palette updates are a little more common than new +.1 versions. maybe twice a year? like when we had space factory and then hot rod factory? can't really remember. there are about three things I want in LDD before I die : Hoses. glow-in-the-dark/light-switch mode. animation. that's it none of those around for a long time, I promise you. I saw a video where lego universe is supposed to let you animate your models, but you know. This is a tool (probably should say a toy.. and nothing wrong with that ), that's a game. loving the second one! I've been avoiding black because now it's possible to build something substantial in another color, but to each his own. good on ya, especially for so soon.

nah, the artoo leg has been in belleville dollhouse sets. there are some pieces they designed for license sets but decided might have uses in other sets, and avoided licensing the parts, all of R2D2 was original parts debuting in him (i think) but have been used everywhere since. even the baby dragon from harry potter isn't a licensed part, and shows up in that Kingdoms impulse set oh alright. I'd missed that post. Truthfully, I'd have been happy to trade them just for that telescope piece. the two pieces I was surprised to not see in your mod, just due to how limitless and up to date it seemed, were that piece, and the new plume/flame. still waiting on the new flame Oh I'm satisfied, and I understand that they didn't expect the parts to be publicly seen. If this is really linked to the lego universe part library, I know there'll be updates. But seeing the Minifigures head prints got me excited, and it's just a shame parts were withdrawn that I was having fun playing around with, especially when they have more uses now. oh and I thought I saw the suspension parts... you talking about the old technic one that was in the wild west jailbreak set?

well there are actually some minor things I'm really missing from Bojan's Mod: all the molded minifig series parts! sure, we have the pompoms, but we've our lost caveman hair, clown hair, nurse hair, ray gun, short bar. the accessories are the kind of thing I'd like to experimentally throw in with a full assortment of parts. you can build some crazy stuff around that little ray gun.

I don't know if it's appropriate to say in this topic, but I want the boba molds so bad I wonder if they're doing a mandolorian CW battle pack next year. doesn't seem unlikely... and for boba himself, hopefully in a magnet set early next year? of course I should just get this so I don't miss out on the carbonite

Same here, I was thrilled when I got a first look - back in february I guess the only thing bugging me is the gateway to the red castle. looks way too face-ish for me. the bars make a kind of toothy space, window eyes. red under the windows is like an exaggerated cheek blush and the axes are vaguely mustachey. hope I haven't ruined it for anyone , but I have trouble seeing past it. edit: ok no, the red is like a sunburned cheekbone line, the brown block under the axes like a pug nose. the top of the wall is bart simpson hair. I like the details. little torches around and all

Plans for LDD
SpiderSpaceman replied to Scorpion's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Keep in mind that as far as virtual building goes, all the parts stay in the program, once you turn off the palette filter. for being able to order or not, yeah it's a pain to lose them. wow those are some essentials... It'd be awesome to have a dedicated "all parts, all colors" palette (for both mac and pc versions). they had that before the original lego factory contest.. then the major new version came out and we haven't had anything like it since (till the mod) and all I know about the Universe parts is that Ldraw has a list of them to polish up. -
Oh, you mean you don't know what you want. no I'm kidding, but listen to the brainéd man. at the very least stop motion pro is a necessity. make smooth animation with that (in scenes or shots), then drop those into any video editor at all.

haha looks like I only have a backwards, and it's a very abstract 6 piece polybag. 7276:

my first thoughts when those were introduced were "Why couldn't this happen for the batman line? "

good to know, I hope I can find this somewhere, and it's not something that we'll never figure out how it was distributed.

Oh sorry, my bad. I hadn't heard anything since the first pics of the train, tonka, and trash management plant. I hadn't been following the topic until it was frontpaged and i assumed this was all new material on p.49 edit: oh ok, I see the conversation now. I was just surprised no-one was proclaiming drooling over the tiny picture yet I really hope it's actual wings, but I don't really see anything behind him. With all the specialty toy story molds it'd be a shame if they overlooked new bug wings, but I see nothing at this point. I definitely love what I do see.

The only one i really like is the pizza planet truck - and I do really like it. it's figure packed, great model, of a trademark of the series. all the other models are too prefab for me, like the city farm or the airplanes with the big molded wings and cabin. too many huge pieces, too few overall, lots of empty space. and I cannot express my disgust with the purple teddy bear. That said, why oh why has no one picked up on the outstanding gem of the collection? In the limited edition set, the minifig of this muscle-y bug dude. Too cool!! edit: OK, and I'm good with the set that figure comes in too, it's got solid creator set design, a blue dumpster. and my new favorite specialty figure

that spaceman rocks, your review rocks, etc. Since we're letting you lay down the law on quality, another question it'd be cool to have a final answer on: how tough is feeling through the foil bags? Could one really not just grope for two spherical lumps in the bag? (I am talking about the pom-poms, I'm not that kind of LEGO fan ) It just still seems to me that you could definitely push the larger accessories to the corner of the bag and pinch around them. I'd be more than content with getting a spaceman over a cheerleader. especially one whose cheer is so lacking in the 'being not half bad' department Also, think there's any use in me checking my Toys R Us already? They were getting ready for the Prince of Persia shipment last week, and that seemed like some early stocking to me. Maybe the minifigs will be out early too?

10211 Grand Emporium price gone mad
SpiderSpaceman replied to Delmar's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Brother, you're my hero -
I may be about to give technic a whole lot of monetary love. or not... a bunch of sweet unopened parts is at stake. return them and get technic like I know I should? tis a dilemma. I'm actually a huge fan of the studless system, It scared me when NXT did it because I'm a RIS 1.5 man myself... but it's been growing on me for a good while. mmm. sometimes I think official sets aren't the best subject matter, there's some repetition, and some of the smaller sets are not as functional as I'd like. but I sit down with a good selection of technic elements and some graph paper and I'll have a blast I'm amazed that you are using, no offense, speech like my 2 year old cOusin. Just playing man. I really think everybody here can handle technic. I'm glad you aspire to engineering and recognize the joy of making things work, but you should "lose the attitude". The best engineers are the ones who hang tight with creativity, and creativity is the reason adults like a lego hobby.
-
A small tangentially related word of advice: There are some connections that can't be undone. configurations of more specialized technic pieces, you can stick one piece on another, connect a 2L rod through that assembly in another direction, and there's no way to pull it out. I have a specific example with bionicle parts but generally, there are cases where you really shouldn't put particular parts together in the first place. And never, never keep minifig trash cans and minifig racer helmets near each other. that's a tragic accident waiting to happen

Alright, I'd gone to toys-r-us yesterday to take advantage of a BO,GO 50% sale, stayed in the Lego aisle for 4 hours, ended up getting Krusty Krab Adventures Gold Tooth Getaway Venice Canal Chase Fighter plane attack I'd kinda had a policy to only, but completely collect the SPIII, Atlantis, and minifigures lines this year, but with the gaps in those collections I can't find two sets with appropriate prices for BO,GOing. Anyway, I might want to switch out the indy sets for 2 out of 8041Race Truck, 8263Snow Groomer, and 8049Tractor with Log Loader. I've just recently bought army men, buzz and woody, the skull twin chase set, and the landspeeder. Anybody else think I could use a little technic? I've got about 3 hours to decide

that was a fun review, thank you sir! I feel pretty dumb for not knowing about this set , especially because I'm realizing a bag of parts that my grandma picked up at a garage sale a while back IS this set. fun little realization of the day. when I'm entertaining the little cousins I've mainly been making more 'explorien' style builds from the parts, that and some mailbox-headed monsters. I might have to build the official model sometime... oh to be fair this set is 6 years older than I am. which brings me to a telling question of naivety: why are there visor dents in the old helmets?
