  1. Can I take a turn while i'm waiting for my turn on the modular building?
  2. I also think both should be done. I think the freeform might get bossed around too much by each builder, but that could also be lots of fun "heh heh I'm gonna make this a treehouse, suckers " "heh heh heh your treehouse is now a monkey " " Aw you low-down rotten son of a.." "haha take that " " yeah guys, your monkey treehouse is a convertible now, so... " " " " " In any case, count me in to participate
  3. ah OK I get that. I knew about the spark eroded molds. Just didn't when the same stuff was being poured through it. haha right. Lapse of brain use on my part I was in a strengths of materials class over the summer and there was a design project. I really wanted to do a variation on the technic ball joint to figure out why lego has had such a hassle getting it right, but I didn't know if that would be acceptable to the professor as a real engineering application. Plus it's kind of a cyclic loading thing and I'd assume there's very much a spike in the stress at the moment the ball pops out and in. Anyway, it's more involved than the basic scenarios of that course for sure. But thickening helps out, and since fracture happens at the thinnest point, not skimping on the plastic, not tapering the socket all makes sense anyway, I always just make myself look stupider with lazy analysis carry on, smart people.
  4. I dunno if the parts are gonna be the hard glossy plastic or the ben 10 plastic but the ben 10 joints (same socket) on meltdown have been popped together and apart with wild abandon since i saw that statement and it seems really darn promising not to start a quality war and I don't even really know if there are different plastics but you know what I mean - the core structural elements of bionicle have always been rigid and glossy while the armors and masks (rahkshi onward) had a bit of softness to them. but if it takes using that to make the ball joints not crack it's more than a worthy application
  5. Where's the flex tool image from? That's the short version of the chain, right? I know I don't have that in LDD...
  6. yes first thing I checked about the new dog when digital designer updated: bricks sit flush on either side. no outward angling like on the pig. Puppy mecha time
  7. Now that exact angles can be entered, we may be in luck for some really nasty connections There are some really tricky ones, and ones that just need a tweak. I'm gonna kick off the topic with some baby ones, and suggest some harder ones for people to scout out. Obviously, feel free to solve/suggest any connections you want. Today: Atlantis helmet & Turkey assembly Atlantis Helmet Place visor 89159 on helmet 2446 AS IS Angle the helmet back 30 degrees. Now place the hinge tool on the visor itself. The angle should be what you just entered. Set it to 0. Select the visor with the single selection tool. It now fits atlantis helmet 87754 perfectly in the current orientation Turkey The magic angle is once again 30 degrees, but this is simpler as it does not need an extra piece to orient the parts correctly Place leg 33057 on turkey 33048 as far as it goes, like this Hinge the leg 30 degrees (check direction by using the wheel). Select the leg and push it fully into the side of the turkey. Repeat for the other side. Now my suggestions, and yes they're much much trickier, and I am a slacker Minifig, two hand holding positions for: Spear 4497 (or other straight pole) Handlebars 30031 Jackhammer 30228 Go bold and make the future of virtual building megablokkin' awesome.
  8. the larger palm leaf doesn't have holes through the stem
  9. Probably inconsequential as I doubt many of us are using these, but the large rock and lava monsters only take arms on one side of the body. Also, the flame rows, that are meant to embed specifically in the lava monster's back, absolutely will not. To clarify: the parts know where I'm trying to put them. but they stay see through as if there's a collision skis still aren't compatible EDIT: no I'm a moron, they work just fine now. Bug fixed! Here's another thing - tried the hinge tool on one end of the flex enabled rope (both ends connected to a plate, making the part an approximate U shape.) the end alone was highlighted, as I expected, but when I budged the rotation wheel, the program crashed
  10. Wow, silly me - wig #8 is Dastan's. It's a little low res but that's it.
  11. sorry, accidentally posted in the bugs topic aaaand I thought that was going to combine with my last post.. I need a break from all this
  12. So I think my favorite part name that is now displayed in the program is "Engine - Turbo megablocks." EDIT: haha, i never knew that was automatic. short for assembly
  13. haha yeah, yikes. that's quite a footprint Thanks a ton though, this is gonna be great to look over That cylinder is definitely something I've never ever seen before EDIT: oh yeah but it's just a subpart. so I don't know. could it be the midsection of a pneumatic tank in current or past technic sets? i'm not familiar enough with it and I didn't even notice the new trapdoor! at a glance I would have assumed they were 30041 and 30042, but you're right - they've eliminated some bulkiness, added some connection points and standardized the pins. loving it.
  14. yeah I immediately dialed it back to the minimum settings I'm not too disconcerted about it sorry to hear about your card Most minor nitpick: it kind of irritates me that coming back from a search opens all your dividers. just a little kink in the workflow
  15. also the new graphics are gorgeous. and I am going to commandeer my brother's new computer to see them in seriousness, I love that we have so many metallic tones now - and the flex tool is absolutely astounding for the 4 pieces it works on. and I like that we've got nearly all prince of persia parts, though dastan hair is a glaring omission and the ostrich isn't quite satisfactory between lack of seperate head and coloring options. The wrist blade is actually labeled "wolverine" "invert selection" is cool - you can select everything but oh my gosh - degrees in the hinge tool haha sorry. looks like I'm repeating some of you guys we got a lot of the parts we asked for. cowboy hat's finally here...
  16. not to mention quite a generous little batch of currently unreleased parts Kalle, mine just says "287" and 4.0.20
  17. Well dude the LU creation lab gallery is pretty robust, you can link a selection of files to any models you put on there, LXFs included oh, haha. gotcha. I got caught up in the misunderstandings too. it's weird though, what I can and can't load from the older older versions, all things I know I started making at the same time, but probably made changes to some in a later middle version - and I can still open those by keeping them alive thusly, the other's no such luck. so if you're gonna worry about any of your stuff make sure you save what 1.X and 2.X models you're lucky enough to be able to.
  18. Aaaaaamen brother I am so stoked to use all these new parts, you wouldn't believe it. this topic has kinda become a hotbed of opinions furiously presented as facts. well said all around.
  19. wait... what set does that happen in? EDIT: nah I found it. the portal. I guess the set just outshone that detail
  20. Thanks, Superkalle - for the link and the luck. I should pull through fine, just gotta catch up a bit over the week. I love all the physical phenomena that contradict the expected. Its like the LDD bugs of real life
  21. Great news! That was sooner than I expected. Sadly it can't be my top Friday priority because the day's quite packed. Taking a Thermodynamics exam and hoping to catch MUSE perform at a music fest in New Orleans. so I'll probably be downloading when I wake up Saturday afternoon I'm thrilled that y'all could move it out so quickly. I'll save most of the congratulations for after I've tried it out
  22. That's super cool. Nice texture work, and yeah, that black on black is doing magic, gives you a perfect 'die-cast hot wheels' look. and I really like the dome bricks as reactors
  23. gorgeous model!
