  1. I see you're too cheap to make your banner out of obsidian :P

  2. Ridiculous good job, people! I regret skipping out on this one. Have I missed any discussion about the next build?
  3. ohhh crud i think you're right. nice.
  4. Who wants to see the lightning dragon set? Sorry if it already has been seen, but I can't recall that it was So toys r us carries this 'ninjago official guide' book, just a little kid paperback reader, and within its pages there's just art and info on the characters, locations, photos of the weapons, vehicles, and DRAGONS. excuse my awful ipod touch camera and the binding of the book (Blocking from view a skeleton helicopter lugging a caged sensei wu, the extra model included with the dragon)
  5. Insanely terrific, sir! So perfect. You've worked everything in just right The waterfall and indian camp are testaments to minimalism
  6. All I want are some popular ones people have already mentioned: Most importantly: the brethren court, for the all encompassing cast of every type of international pirate, keith, and crazy random beached ship in a tree architecture But also: Tortuga, for the drunken chaos Something with Davy and his crew (I don't say dutchman, only because I know they won't make every ship, and I'd rather the pearl. the 'organ room' someone suggested is a killer idea. They better use the atlantis crabman claw. I can't imagine the shellhead guy is the one-off fish pirate) Tia Dalma's shack for the voodoo cool (and has anyone else realized there are no black female minifigs yet? ) The pearl with more skeleton crewmen and monkey, boarding redcoats. A killer alternative would be: do make every ship, but MIDISCALE, and include a captain and two crewmen.
  7. Oh come on, where the islanders at?
  8. Yeah and I like my series 5 too It let me make my Angry Swiss Barmaid (leia hair, takeshi's face, pirate bodice, fabuland axe)
  9. On the first point, I detailed it a post above your post. I figure you juuuust missed it while typing. Here. on the second, yes, sadly.
  10. again, quoting myself: that's the issue. the matte is for the most part aok with me, it's the interplay between it and the same printing as the other figs, where the printed areas could just as well be the solid color backing or vice versa - my example: magnet set han solo very obviously has his shirt printed and shining conspicuously over the black torso, which is supposed to be the outer layer of his clothing - also seen in the Zombie, the pants are supposed to be ripped up, but the grey skin showing through floats above the texture of the pants. But also, as for the mold being to blame: look at the caveman's club, an entirely solid piece, and tell me its not a different, softer, gummier plastic. Again, I would be fine with it if it wasn't over in the printed parts causing big discrepancies. The collectible minifigures/vintage minifigures/magnet minifigures/woody are made of plastic that seems to me to have more in common with what they use for the screwdriver-hammer-drill-wrench-wrench-and-oil-can, flippers, or knives parts, than with the plastic for standard danish parts. Snake plastic over frog plastic, if it do ya. My theory on that is that the chinese factory does have a counterpart to the harder plastic - but it's not quite right- it's actually too hard and brittle for the arms and legs of minifigures, which have to be snapped together, and therefore, use the 'sprued elements' plastic throughout for uniformity. (with the exception of parts like woody's head, three eyed alien head, some CM hairs and accessories, CM arms are possibly the hard stuff, placed easily into the soft stuff of the torso ) more examples of 'classic' danish parts to compare: laptop. rat (not scabbers). clam. suitcase. backpack (all varieties) ^small because I'm doubting myself on that edit: oh forget all that, CM caveman is every bit as vibrant as my new potc figs. haha... This is why I usually stay out of these discussions I'm wishy washy between arrogant confidence and open mindedness (which in itself can be too easily swayed by wishy wash ) I have a big psychological problem with that. CMs are every bit as good as set figs.
  11. Yeah but I was talking about the Vintage minifigure line. series 5 is the one I own. with the doctor, flight attendant, stunt woman, white ninja, pirate wench - But you're absolutely right. I was unfair, they're just as good quality as collectible minifigures/ninjago spinner/magnet pack figures. I stated about the Minifigures line: so to some extent I do give them a 'free pass' because they don't come any other way. but no, I'm entirely happy with their quality. I spoke rashly of my "vintage" reproduction figs solely from memory, holding them in hand now... they're pretty friggin great
  12. the coins I received have the aesthetic of the coins on the box, but only come in the 10 denomination. they are the same gold as the gold bars whitefang shows, and they have two circle holes in the back from the mold; since they are molded individually, no sprue takes up the compromises that the molding process requires. The "LEGO" print on the back is much like that on top of the gold bars. Not proudly displayed as a design element, as on the old gold coins, but matter-of-factly, by requirement. In short, they are effectively one-sided, non-chrome coins, but the "10" on the top (only number due to a single mold that makes single coins) is styled as seen on the box.
  13. Yes the US price was a lot more fair. Also, I believe the "8 or 10 gold coins" was meant to refer to the fact that what you get in the sets actually seems to vary from batch to batch. I had 10 gold coins in a bag with my gold bars, unconnected, new mold, and not chromed: same gold as the gold bars. Furthermore, none of my instructions/posters were on a cardboard backing
  14. there is a difference, I can tell it relatively easily, and usually the chinese production parts satisfy me. Usually. Actually that's not true. It's half and half. The plastic in the santa claus magnet set, which I got as a freebie from a bricklink seller (and that was awesome but it), was plastic from Hell. the plastic in the vintage minifigures series isn't much better. Toy Story's Woody - makes me want to cry, because it's full of parts that, in concept, I want so bad. In practice, the legs bend inward and have funky cracks and the arms don't fit the sockets as well as they ought. One of the legs on my collectible minifigures clown has insufficient friction. I don't remember which color leg it is, but my brother has the same fig with the same issue. On the other hand, sometimes the chinese parts are as good or better All of my star wars magnet sets had gorgeous, gorgeous figures. Truthfully, I'd still be inclined to think I got batches of danish production figures somehow. But a cousin of mine got the Vader set I got, a bit later, and his was definitely inferior, the lines of the print were grotesquely thick (printing precision issues). The only one I count as an exception in my collection is my sole Han Solo. He's definitely got that duller softer plastic and the shine of his printing makes it blatantly obvious. Most of the individually bagged printed parts satisfy. The benefits outweigh the slight plastic difference, they're usually entirely decorative, and actually I'll say it, A+ quality. exceptions: Buzz Lightyear's suit (gritty), the three eyed alien head (actually feels too hard and brittle - though I've never put it through any abuse). Even those parts I fully accept into my collection happily. because they're just way too much fun to neglect. A total aside, beg pardon: buzz needed to have more generic molds. Not generic as in dull, but creative generic, multi-use. Say, something with an aquanauts helmet level of beautiful lego detail and connections, that could carry into new space themes. And Buzz did not need his own head shape, come on. Even the construct-a-Buzz would have been better served with a giant knight's kingdom figure head. Buzz was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw those sets. Further aside: squidward did need his own head shape back on topic: Rock monsters kick butt. Collectible Minifigures are untouchable paragons of beauty and charming zaniness. free pass forever  annnd I forgot what the 'better' was but I think I did have a concrete example
  15. not so minor IMO. Clawdette is a sexy mama, a perfect spy villain, and my favorite of the henchme.. henchpersons. She's top tier, up with gold tooth, breakjaw, and fire arm (the only one not a homage to a bond villain, but still awesome). Dyna-mite (along with Dollar Bill, and probably Slimeface/D. Zaster) is horribly designed in comparison. I dunno, it's catwoman vs harley quinn. Some people like harley quinn. I will never accept her to my list of decent essential batman characters. please don't kill me.
  16. cough Childbearing hips cough no I'm loving it. you can't talk them into adding that double cup to pick a brick, can you? I'm not qualified to hop into lugbulk and no-one's selling any on bricklink. I can only get one per $13 set. not meaning to whine, but I want to be able to build something awesome like that
  17. trust me, there's nothing to regret in buying it it's pretty terrific
  18. Haha, don't mind me, I'm a goober; yeah - it's a POTC set, and a great one - but it totally evoked the scene of the initial encounter with the ewoks for me. Also, though this had no bearing on this idea, just food for thought: it's one of about 4 tree/rock formation sets this year that could really coexist, save for the figs- this one, the actual ewok one, the smallest harry potter set (forbidden forest duel), and the kingdoms royal carriage. I'm being too lazy to look up names and set #s And nitpicking, it's a Islander-POTC fig
  19. Not sure - I think you'll find the answer sooner than I can tell you - again, throwing that in my easter basket Though I suppose... I could pop it open and reseal it - for the good of the many... EDIT: 10 coins 3 bars. 2 apples. the coins are strange: all "10"s (raised in a rougher, perhaps piratey font MORE EDIT: see box art for depiction of font. other than that, they're sadly not the same as shown), not off of a sprue, plastic C3PO kinda gold rather than chrome (guess it works well inside the set for color coherency) and two little circle indents on the backside from molding I guess. Gold bar is part 99563 if you care, no part ID marked on the coin And jumping back into the discussion: I want that little hat jack set SO. BADLY.
  20. Toys R Us, waaaay south of you, I'm afraid - right around New Orleans
  21. Not to mention something I just realized - there could be an official Keith Richards minifigure in the future! Anyway, I've got my sets. (one opened, one for easter) My socks have been rocked. The builds and the figures are crazy great having fun trolling the star wars forum: Ewoks.
  22. So I bought that new endor set, put it together, and it's really sweet - BUT: It inexplicably came with the wrong figures! what is this garbage? But not to worry, I have stand ins for all the correct figures! Yub nub! Always thinkin with my stomach... But Master Luke, what cursed medallion? I couldn't possibl- whooooaaah! Dammit Chewie, I'm a smuggler, not a dinner The fixed set, HUZZAH!: ¡Vivan los piratas!
  23. Anakin is 110% perfect, dooku too the others feel a little off with the spacing...
  24. Are they backless? I hadn't thought about it but I've never seen the back view Also, holy smokes - raw-jaw was my fave when i thought he was just a warthog (and terrific red parts pack), but he's a tree swinging warthog-ape hybrid... I think I'm gonna be getting about 3 of him
