SET INFORMATION Number: 42077 Title: Rally Car Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 1005 Box Weight: 1720 gr Box Dimensions: 47,8 cm x 28,2 cm x 12 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 99,99 Price per Part: € 0,099 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box measures 47,8 cm x 28,2 cm x 12 cm and weighs around 1720 grams. THE FRONT The front of the box shows the Rally Car blasting through the hilly track. We could almost presume it has all wheel drive, given how the wheels are shown, but that is not true. The box states that this model is for the age of 10 till 16. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. In the lower right corner there's a image with the dimension of the model. It's 42cm long. THE BACK The back side of the box shows the functions of the main model on the left side, and also the B model, and its functions, on the right side. B model is the Buggy, which actually looks really good. In first, it seems that its red bars on the sides are part of the suspension system, which would be awesome, but they are actually just the aesthetic parts. Nevertheless, this seems like a great model! THE SIDE One of the sides shows a picture of the main model, and one of the wheels/tires combo in the actual size. We got only one piece in this set. This piece has been released in two more sets in this color, the 42084 Hook Loader and the 42078 Mack Anthem. PART LIST This set contains 1005 parts, which are shown below. THE BUILD Building the Rally Car was enjoyable and interesting, due to sheer size of the car. From the very beginning we start with the chassis and its side steps. Note that from the very start of the building you can see the final width of the car, and it's very wide! 27 studs wide! Next, we have the driven and suspended back axle. Suspension uses two of the yellow hard shock absorbers. After we connect the rear axle to the chassis, we can start with the six cylinder engine. Here, it is already connected to the driven axle. Also, two of the 1x16 links are placed, to act as a part of the roll bar system. Moving on with the front of the chassis, and the seats. Now, we can see one of the most recognizable features of this set: a beautifully designed roll bar in the cabine. Front axle. Yes, it is NOT driven. What a shame. It does have the suspension, and steering. By attaching the front axle to the chassis, and installing the front section, we can clearly see the size of the car. It is Huge! Inside details include aforementioned roll bar, two seats, fire extinguisher, and the steering wheel. In the front section we got two cooling fans. FINISHED MODEL I hereby present to you, the finished Rally Car! Isn't she a beauty? Yes, she is! But, that's where we try to find the functions. And we are disappointed. More on that a bit later. Finished model does look smooth from the headlights to the rear spoiler! Everything flows nicely! Those white flexible hoses really complete the package! Colors? Well, it is one of the main strengths of the set! Dark azure, white and red really makes it special. Clever use of the stickers make the model even better. Side view. Here, we can note three flaws. 1. Big gap around the tires. On the pictures it look worse than when the model is in front of you. You can also say that, since this is a rally car, it might need more room there for a wheels to have enough room when the (extra long) suspension work. Even with this in mind, the gaps are simply too big. 2. The car is very low to the ground, which is not always good for a rally car. 3. The inside is somewhat hollow. Basically, this model is all about the shape and size. Back of the vehicle is aggressive and thick. Nice use of the parts to achieve the curved look. Strangely, there are no stickers at the back side. It looks a bit pale. From this angle you can see how the designers managed to made nice flow with parts. The cabine is narrower than the wheels, which gives the car a more sporty and aggressive look. Front section. I like the hood, with unusual hole (intake?) in the hood. Nice shaping of the front section. Perhaps the main headlights could be better if mounted at an angle of 45 degrees, to match the oval shape of the front. Four additional headlights are a great touch. So is the windshield shape. Notice the white liftarm with "Billund High Point" sticker. This liftarm is connected to the roof in a way that any accidental touch will make the liftarm move, which can be annoying when you want to lift the model by grabbing its roof. The best place to pick the model up is to hold it to its black side steps. Back section. As noted before, nice shaping. I like the fat wheels being visible. Interesting use of parts at the exhaust section. Underside shot. Yes, this is a hollow model. Leftover parts after finishing the Rally Car build. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS This model has the following features: Steering via Hand of God. By pushing the model, we put the V6 engine in motion. Suspension on all four wheels. Openable doors, hood and trunk/side spoilers. Now, lets see the functions as shown in the instructions booklet. STEERING Works smooth, but poor range of motion. Steering knob on the top of the cabine steers the front wheels. I would prefer a bit more direct/faster turning speed. Also, there are two limiters installed in the front axle, which prevent the wheels from steering all the way. Openables Hood, doors and trunk can be opened to reveal (hollow) interior. Note that the doors are connected to the car with only one pin. Trunk has a interesting way of revealing the engine bay. Namely, when you open the trunk, you also open the side panels, via levers connected cleverly to the trunk. Perhaps it is really needed, as the engine itself is pretty deep inside, toward the middle of the vehicle. UNDER THE HOOD Not much to see. Naked front axle, and two fans. ENGINE BAY Much better than under the hood. We can see the engine, roll bars, suspension, and exhaust system. SUSPENSION This is how it looks when we push down the model. Suspension travel is okay. The model touches the ground when the suspension is at its lowest point, which combined with the low clearance, could indeed be a problem on a speedy hill race. DETAILS SUMMARY Nice, big set, but seems a bit unfinished in some areas. It is most probably meant to be like this. For relatively low number of pieces/price, you get pretty big set, with very nice look. Some would say it is meant for modifications. I would say it is way too simple. It might be a very interesting rally car after few user-made modifications, but we could say that for other sets as well. For a car of this size, we could at least get an all wheel drive system and a gearbox, not to mention new pieces for these functions, or even functions not yet seen on a Lego car. Good: Great looking and big vehicle, sporting very attractive colors. Aggressive shape. Nice roll bar inside. Bad: Hollow body, lack of "proper" functions, like AWD and the gearbox. Very close to the ground/hits the ground when the suspension is in its lowest point. Very simple suspension. Same old engine. At the end, the model is what it is: a fully playable, big, beautiful car! If you can get over its lack of advanced functions, or if you are into the modding, don't miss this set! SCORE So how do I grade this set? 8 DESIGN Beautifully designed. 6 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Not very exciting, but its sheer size makes it interesting. 6 FEATURES Present functions work smoothly, but this set (and its users) just screams for more! 6 PLAYABILITY If you take this model as it is, you will have lots of fun. Otherwise, you will miss some functions. 9 PARTS Want dark azure? Panels in all shape and sizes? You got it! 7 VALUE FOR MONEY Good value for the package. Final score - 7.0 Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

[REVIEW] 42076: Hovercraft
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed. Connection points are too weak. Easily visible on this picture (on the left side of it): Tan pins actually holds the propeller's housing, while the white connectors transmits the power to them (and provide some additional, but weak, support). -

My book was perfect. No folding or any signs of damage. Check out the review pic. How about the sticker sheet? They probably gave you another axle to compensate for the ripped book . -

[REVIEW] 42076: Hovercraft
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Guys, as an afol, I somewhat agree with you, but I also have to consider this set as a kids/teens toy. Now, I am not saying that is an excuse for some of the set's issues mentioned in the review. Also, I had to take into the account my two young assistants (8 and 13), who provided their feedback (for this set and for all the sets so far). They have a lot of Lego sets at their home, and they like this Hovercraft (they hate the slow ramp). And they are not even a boat fans, they prefer construction machines and race cars. Without their opinion, the set would get a bit lower score, but I would still keep it in a neighborhood of 6.5 - 7. -
INTRODUCTION Nautical vessels aren't new to LEGO Technic. Back in 1996 TLG released the 8223 Hydrofoil 7, no studless yet, of course! After that, the company released a number of Harbour sets in the Technic theme, a total of 10 of them so far, actually! Some of these sets have decent size, the biggest brick built one was the 8824 Supply Ship, from 1992, containing around 580 parts. The biggest ever was the 2017 42064 Ocean Explorer, with over 1300 parts. Three of these Harbor Sets contained the infamous Technic Figures. Let's see how this new Harbor vessel lives up to the expectations. Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42076 Title: Hovercraft Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 1020 Box Weight: 1376 gr Box Dimensions: 47,8 cm x 28,2 cm x 7,4 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 69,99 Price per Part: € 0,069 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box measures 47,8 cm x 28,2 cm x 7,4 cm and weighs around 1376 grams. THE FRONT The front of the box shows our Hovercraft and its Truck with cargo box, docked on some inhospitable shore. The Hovercraft has lowered its ramp and the truck is driving off the Hovercraft. The box states that this model is for the age of 9 till 16. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. In the lower right corner there's a image with the dimension of the model. It's 40cm long. There is also a note stating that this "model does not float - not for use in water". THE BACK The back side of the box shows the functions of the main model on the left side, and also a B model, and its functions, on the right side. B model is a "Speedy Jet Boat", with a helicopter and a small truck with crane. THE SIDE One of the sides shows a picture of the main model, and one of the fans/turbines in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 1 Instruction Booklet 1 Sticker Sheet 8 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET The instruction booklet for the main model. Random page of the instruction booklet. Numbered bags in building STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet is neatly packed into the instruction booklet. TIRES Six + two tires are provided. Six of the 30.4 x 14 tires, released in 80 sets so far. Also, two of the 17.5mm D. x 6mm, released in 42 sets so far. BAGS A total of eight bags containing the rest of the parts. Note: the bags are listed by their size, not by the bag's number. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or interesting parts. White Liftarm 1 x 2 Thick White 1x2 Liftarm. We got two pieces in this set. So far, in this color, it has been released in this set only. White Axle and Pin Connector Hub with 1 Axle White connector with axle. We got two pieces in this set. So far, it has been released in only two sets: this one, and in 2018 31076 Daredevil Stunt Plane (contains three pieces). Axle Pin 3L with Friction Ridges Lengthwise and 1L Axle in RED This 3L Axle Pin has never been released in red before for general public and easily obtainable. This year, it was released in 8 sets in this color, and it was also released in one set in 2017, The Nutcracker (Lego 2017 Employee Exclusive). PART LIST This set contains 1020 parts, which are shown below. THE HOVERCRAFT'S TRUCK This small truck is used to haul the cargo box. The truck is very simple, has odd shape, but it also has two functions: steering, and suspension on the back axle. I don't like how it looks. It looks too futuristic, and its front part is too low to the ground, compared to the back. Back section has its own problems. Again, it has that "racer" look, and ground clearance on the back axle is very low. FUNCTIONS Steering By turning the black double bevel gear on the top of the cabine, you can steer the wheels on the front axle. Steering lock is not great, which limits playability, but it works. Here you can see it in action. Suspension Suspension is done via one light bluish gray shock absorber. Suspension travel is limited on purpose, but more than enough. When cargo box is loaded onto the truck, the suspension still can achieve its full motion. Here you can see it in action. Cargo box The box has a footprint of 5x7 studs, and fits perfectly to the truck's flatbed. Thanks to the blue half pins, it is locked in place, and can't slide off, if the driver is in a hurry. Leftover parts after building the truck. Compared with the 42084: Hook Loader I prefer the red one. It looks like a truck. And it can haul the cargo box, too. It is also red, black and gray, like the Hovercraft itself. HOVERCRAFT THE BUILD Building the Hovercraft was enjoyable and easy, interesting enough to keep you wondering about the next step. From the very beginning we start with the chassis and the driving/propellers mechanism. The model is basically hollow. By adding these eight panels, we really quickly got the main deck settled. Added mechanism for the propellers' steering/pointing. Installing the actuators' drive to power the ramp. Also added the black double bevel gears on the right, which operates both the "steering" of the propellers, and the 17.5mm D. x 6mm wheels. We actually steer the model via the wheels, but visually, all we can see is the propellers turning. Nice. (You can see the wheels on the underside shot later) Side skirt added, as well as red structure for the crane tower/bridge. FINISHED MODEL I hereby present to you, the finished Hovercraft! The set is a bit different from what we used to see in Technic, which is usually a good thing. Thanks to the smooth liftarms and panels, It does look like a real hovercraft. What I like, is the fact that the designers tried to keep axles (that power the ramp and propellers) barely visible on the deck, and keep it clean and usable. It has nice color combo, too. Black, LBG, red and white makes it a visually pleasing model. Stickers does make a difference here. Here we can see the crane, behind the cab. It is used to lift the cargo box from the truck. More on that later. Back side of the vehicle is also okay. Interesting use of parts for the propellers housing. Side view. Everything okay. Symmetrical model, side skirts really make it look oval. Underside shot. As noted before, this is a hollow model, but it has everything it needs. Leftover parts after finishing the Hovercraft build. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS This model has the following features: Steering via Hand of God. Steering knob controls both the actual wheels, and the orientation of the back propellers. By pushing the model, we put the propellers in motion. They are connected to the wheels on the ground. They wiggle left and right rapidly when being used. Lowering and lifting the ramp. Slow to lower and raise. Two small linear actuators are used for this task, operated by two small double bevel gears, one on each side of the Hovercraft. Cabin slides left and right, no mechanism for that. You need to push or pull the cabine. Crane can lower itself to pick up and lift the cargo box up. Crane is operated by one double bevel gear. Works okay, but hard to use properly. Now, lets see the functions as shown in the instructions booklet. STEERING Works smooth, nice range of motion. Operated via the black double bevel gear on the deck of the model. As noted, the same gear, when used, steers the wheels on the ground, effectively steering the whole Hovercraft, if you choose to push it. THE RAMP It needs a good deal of cranking to achieve its full range of motion. CRANE Smooth, very simple, works as intended, but hard to actually catch the cargo box, due to lack of space. CABINE SHIFTING Basically you will use this function to "catch" the cargo box with the crane. No mechanism, you move the cabine with the hand. ACTION This is how it looks when we want to pick the cargo box from the truck. You can see the lack of space between the crane tower and the truck. DETAILS Very nice design of the cabine with so little parts. Note the curved "windshield" and safety railing. Air Intakes are just spot on. Its fans are freely rotating. SUMMARY For what it is supposed to be, this set is doing great! Good: Interesting machine. Lots of (simple) functions. Strong lower bodywork. Nice overall look. Bad: Propellers do wiggle left/right a lot, when you operate them by pushing the Hovercraft, Needs a fair amount of cranking to get the ramp up/down. Crane does not have enough space to work properly. Hollow body. At the end, playable set if you are into these types of machines, and if you can get over its issues, most notably the wiggling propellers and awkward crane. SCORE So how do I grade this set? 6 DESIGN This score would be higher if there were no mentioned issues. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Just building something different, makes it interesting 7 FEATURES Again, would be higher if there were no mentioned issues. 8 PLAYABILITY Lots of functions to keep the young user occupied. 7 PARTS Good set if you are into the panels. 7 VALUE FOR MONEY Good value for the package. Final score - 7.0 Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

[REVIEW] 42075: First Responder
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you all guys. Perhaps I should have mentioned it before, but I have not read any review of any 1H sets so far, mainly to keep these reviews consistent and objective. So, I am glad to hear this review seems to have the same conclusions as other reviews. I have only used official Lego set promo videos, and the set itself. -
[REVIEW] 42075: First Responder
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This fire fighter is my favorite, too (of small sets so far, but not very fair to compare given the difference in part count and price). 42076 is coming tomorrow or on Thursday. -
INTRODUCTION For my sixth review from this year's 1H batch, we will be looking at the 42075: First Responder. In 1995 we got the 8280 Fire Engine, in 2003 the 8454: Rescue Truck, in 2006 the 8289: Fire Truck, and in 2017, the smooth looking 42068: Airport Rescue Vehicle. This year we have the "First Responder", a medium size Fire Truck/Jeep with lots of nice functions, in a very sturdy and smooth bodywork. Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42075 Title: First Responder Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 513 Box Weight: 829 gr Box Dimensions: 35,1 cm x 18,8 cm x 8,8 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 39,99 Price per Part: € 0,077 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box shows our First Responder in the middle of a street, during night, with its traffic cones set in place. FRONTSIDE The box states that this model is for the age of 9 till 16. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. BACKSIDE The backside of the box shows the functions of the A model on the left side, and also, the B model, and its functions on the right side of the box. B model is "Fire Racer". Pretty unusual vehicle, which seems it is built more as a Fire-themed hot rod/drag racer, than practical Fire Fighting vehicle. SIDE One of the sides also shows the picture of the main model, and one of the wheels in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 2 Instruction Booklet 1 Sticker Sheet 4 Wheels 5 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET The instruction booklet for the main model. The instruction booklet for the alternate model. Random page of the instruction booklet. STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet is neatly packed into the instruction booklet. TIRES Four tires are provided separately. Tire 49.5 x 20. Released in 14 sets so far. BAGS A total of five bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or interesting parts. Black Liftarm 5 x 7 Open Center Frame Finally, a 5 x 7 Open Center Liftarm Frame in black! We got one piece in this set. So far, it has been released in one more set in this color, the 42077 Rally Car Blue Pin with Friction Ridges Lengthwise and Pin Hole Blue Pin with Pin Hole, great addition for blue models. We got one piece in this set. So far, it has been released in one more set in this color, the 75533 Star Wars Bobba Fett. PART LIST This set contains 513 parts, which are shown below. THE BUILD Building the First Responder was very enjoyable, much more interesting than previous sets, which is understandable, as it has much more functions and parts. From the very beginning we start with the chassis and the steering mechanism. Front axle installed and connected to the steering mechanism. This is how it looks like when we turn the steering knob at this stage. Back driven axle with suspension. Back axle installed and connected to the driveshaft that goes straight to the front of the vehicle. Added most of the structural beams. Note how well the beams are connected to each other. It provides for very sturdy bodywork. Tan double bevel gear at the front will connect the driveshaft and the fake 2-cylinder engine. FINISHED MODEL I hereby present to you, the First Responder! The set is very well designed. It does look like a proper, capable all terrain vehicle. I really do like red here! Combined with white, dark gray and blue lights, it results in a great color scheme. Looking at the stickers, they are not overused. Back side of the vehicle is also done very well. I do not like low clearance of the back axle. From side, no complaints, except the front fender seems unfinished, as it is secured only on one side. Underside shot. Neatly packed and symmetrical model. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS This model has the following features: Steering via Hand of God Openable hood, doors, side cargo panels, and floodlight Fake 2-cylinder engine, powered by back axle. Working front winch Working suspension on the back axle Now, lets see the functions as shown in the instructions booklet. STEERING Works smooth, not very large turning angle of the wheels, but playable enough. Operated via the black double bevel gear on the roof of the model. OPENABLES Hood, doors, side cargo panels, can be opened. SUSPENSION ON THE BACK AXLE Very decent suspension travel, works smooth. WINCH Has some friction on purpose, operated by black double bevel gear. FLOODLIGHT ON THE ROOF Packed between the two back panels. Has good height when erected. DETAILS Under the hood is the engine, nicely packed. By opening the side panels, we can see the various equipment for emergency situations, like the fire extinguisher and an axe. And two orange traffic cones. SUMMARY For this parts count, this is a great set! Lots of functions and openable sections, very strong bodywork, and nice overall look. Very playable. If you are lacking fire fighting vehicle in your collection, this might just be it! SCORE So how do I grade this set? 9 DESIGN Very well designed. Front fender and low ground clearance would be the only drawbacks. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Straightforward, interesting build. 9 FEATURES PACKED with smooth working functions. 8 PLAYABILITY Every collection needs at least one fire fighting vehicle. 7 PARTS If you like red, you will be satisfied. New frame in black and blue pin with hole, but nothing more. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Good value for the package! 8 Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

[REVIEW] 42074: Racing Yacht
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fully agree. I wish they included the keel and rudder part that goes bellow the water line (in a way that we could put it as a option, if and when we want). That way we could have both playability and nice realistically looking/display model, at the expense of few more (larger) parts/panels. -
INTRODUCTION So far, we have seen 8 nautical vehicles in Lego Technic. This year, we got two more! First one is 42074 Racing Yacht, and the second one is 42076 Hovercraft. From Wikipedia: Ok, now, lets quickly cover the main sections of the typical small sailboat. Picture borrowed from: http://www.frugal-mariner.com As we can see, our 42074: Racing Yacht has most of the parts in place. It has Main sail, Headsail or Jib, Mast and Boom, Rudder and even Shrouds printed on a sails. Two things are off: it does not have a keel, and it seems its rudder is above water level. I guess both of these compromises were necessary to achieve better usability of the set, i.e. rolling it on a floor. Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42074 Title: Racing Yacht Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 330 Box Weight: 592 gr Box Dimensions: 26 cm x 28 cm x 5,5 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 29,99 Price per Part: € 0,05 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box shows our Racing Yacht sailing on the water near a city. It also seems it is ahead of two other smaller boats. The box is taller than wide. The weight of the box is approximately 325 grams. FRONT SIDE The box states that this model is for the age of 8 till 14. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. A model is a sailboat, while the B model is a catamaran. We can also see a note stating: "Model does not float. Not for use in water". BACKSIDE The backside shows the sailboat and alternative model - catamaran, and their functions. More on that later. One of the sides shows picture of the steering wheel in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 2 Instruction Booklets (A- and B-model) 1 Sticker Sheet 1 Sail Set (Main Sail and Jib) 4 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET A-MODEL The instruction booklet for the main model. INSTRUCTION BOOKLET B-MODEL Noteworthy is the inclusion of an additional booklet for the B-model. EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP STICKER SHEET One look at the sticker sheets and it's obvious these stickers will give the model its final and slick shape. BAGS Four bags containing all the parts for the model. The only unbagged part in this set is a sail and jib combo. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new or highlighted parts. Plastic Sails (sheet of two) with Waves and Technic Gears Pattern. The Sail and Jib combo is exclusive for this set. Dark Azure Technic, Panel Fairing # 5 Long Smooth, Side A and B This Panels (side A) (side B) has never been released in Dark Azure. This year, we can obtain two pieces of each side (A and B) piece from this set, and one piece of each side (A and B) from 42077 Rally Car set. All the new parts in Dark Azure color PART LIST Our boat consists of 330 parts. Here's the complete part list. THE BUILD The build is pretty straightforward, and interesting. From very early on, you will get to install first of the two functions. The picture below shows the model halfway of the build. You can see the steering mechanism and sliding steering wheel. Sliding road wheels are also installed. Here we can see a sail handling mechanism. Its function is to slide the main boom and main sail to one of the sides. It can be operated from both sides of the boat. Both mechanism installed onto the hull Panels installed, she is almost seaworthy. The finished model looks quite good. Of course, much of the visual identity comes from the colorful sails, and complimenting stickers. The rear of the vehicle looks okay too. One can criticize that it looks unfinished. or overexposed. And it does. Overall shape of the hull is nice, it does resemble a boat hull, with exception from the front part (Bow), which looks a bit off. Of course, achieving such a complex shape using only panels and liftarms is very hard. We can not expect something in a line of big brick-built ship MOCs. Profile view. The next picture shows the underside of the boat. As you can see, everything here is centered around road wheels. This set is clearly meant to be pushed on the floor. Also, it can't stand fully upright very easily. PARTS LEFT FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS This model has the following features: Steering Sail Handling STEERING The steering wheel actually steers the rudder, which is a plus. Steering wheels is a realistically positioned and relatively easy to reach. Here you can see how it works. SAIL HANDLING By turning one of the cranks on either side of the boats, a mechanism activates the arm which moves the boom and thus, the whole main sail is moved. Cranks are somewhat hard to reach, and you definitely can't use the single crank to achieve a full range of movement of the sail. Here is how it looks in motion Functions for the B model are the same: Steering Sail Handling SUMMARY Besides the somewhat unfinished feel of the back section, there are no real downsides to this model. I like the looks and color scheme. It also it contains various unique parts. It even features a interesting sail handling mechanism and working steering wheel to operate the rudder. The set comes with printed instructions for the B-model, so it's basically a real 2-in-1 set. For around 30 euros you really can't go wrong with this set. Given the price, this also makes for a perfect gift for a boat lover! SCORE How do I grade her. 7 DESIGN Dark azure and yellow work great together in this set. And it does look like a real racing sailboat. Different than our usual Technic set. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Fun to build. 7 FEATURES Working steering wheel and sail handling mechanism on a relatively small set. 6 PLAYABILITY A bit inconvenient to push it around since it does not have a real steering, but playable enough. Controls not easily reachable. May be a bit hard to mix with your average Technic sets. 8 PARTS Lots of parts in new (rare) colors. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Totally worth the money, if you are into boats. 7,2 Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

[REVIEW] 42071: Dozer Compactor

INTRODUCTION From Wikipedia: A compactor is a machine or mechanism used to reduce the size of material such as waste material or bio mass through compaction. A trash compactor is often used by a home or business to reduce the volume of trash it produces. A baler-wrapper compactor is often used for making compact and wrapped bales in order to improve logistics. Normally powered by hydraulics, compactors take many shapes and sizes. In landfill sites for example, a large tractor (typically a converted front end loader with some variant of a bulldozer blade attached) with spiked steel wheels called a landfill compactor is used to drive over waste deposited by waste collection vehicles. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MACHINE I had been working for some time for our State Waste Management company, and one of my tasks included periodic visits to our city landfill for data collecting/analyzing work. I was there just in a moment when they got a brand new Cat Soil Compactor, this is the actual one: I was so excited about it, that I spent my next few lunch breaks there, inspecting the machine, though no one understood why I did that. Since I did not actually work on the landfill-part of the company, i could not even thought of asking the manager to let me try it under his supervision, even though I had some experience in operating machinery. But it was, and still is, a very capable machine, and it was a pleasure watching it working. Anyway, was very happy to see this particular machine in the review batch! Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42071 Title: Dozer Compactor Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 171 Box Weight: 325 gr Box Dimensions: 26,0 cm x 13,8 cm x 6,9 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 19,99 Price per Part: € 0,116 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box has the same dimensions as pullback motor sets. The weight of the box is approximately 325 grams. Looking at the box, we can see the dozer on a quarry-like environment, ready to scratch that blade pushing the rocks. Dominant colors are blue and orange, with dark bluish gray. FRONT SIDE The box states that this model is for the age of 8 till 14. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. BACK SIDE The alternate model, the "Articulated Truck", is a flatbed, low cabine truck, with flatbed unloading mechanism. One of the sides also shows picture of the main model, and one of the sprockets in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 2 Instructions Booklet 1 Sticker Sheet 4 Wheel Hard Plastic with Small Cleats 3 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET The instruction booklet for the main model. Nice editing on the main booklet. Not so nice on the alternative model. Angle of the truck is just bad compared to the ground. EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet shows blue/orange decals, a total of 8 of them. WHEELS HARD PLASTIC WITH SMALL CLEATS Four of these wheels haven't been sealed in plastic bags. BAGS Three bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. PANEL 5x11 Panel Plate 5 x 11 x 1 in dark bluish grey. This is the first time we got this part in this color. We got one in this set. This part appears only in two sets, Dozer Compactor (1x) and Mack Anthem (11x). Otherwise, this part appeared in 60 sets so far. TECHNIC TREAD SPROCKET WHEEL SMALL Small Sprocket appeared in 34 sets so far, but Dozer Compactor is the only set in which we got blue sprockets. Four of them! INTERESTING PARTS Small Turntable, always nice to have one more of this little guys. This set contains one small turntable. And, Axle Connector 3L, we get one in this set. umm...TIRES? This set contains four of Dark Bluish Gray Wheel Hard Plastic with Small Cleats. They appeared in 15 sets, in black, DBG and orange color. PART LIST This set contains 171 parts, shown below. THE BUILD Building is actually interesting, obviously it is better thought out than first three sets. Since it's a small model, just a bit larger than pullback motor sets, I will skip the building steps. I hereby present the finished Dozer Compactor. After three smallest sets, I think we have a nice looking set! Compared to those three, this one does look realistic. Proportions are okay (i would like it to have a bit longer engine cover at the back), and functions work smooth, with nice range of motion. Grey, orange and blue works nicely together, and combined with orange stickers at the back, provide for a visually pleasing model. I like all the details in and around the cabine. Underside view. LEFTOVER PARTS A few common leftover parts. FUNCTIONS Instruction Booklet shows us two functions of the model: Steering and Blade operation. STEERING Steering is done via 3L connector, placed above the engine cover. It is easily accessible and provide smooth operation. Since you will most likely hold the "exhaust pipe" and push the model, when you try to steer, you will basically slide the whole front part of the model left and right, instead of articulating it at the middle. That is because all the weight is at the back, from your hand on the exhaust pipe. Range of motion/steering is shown on the animation bellow, and it seems very adequate. BLADE Second function is blade operation. It is done via 12T double bevel gear just in front of the cabine. It is easily accessible, but not as much as the steering. Range of motion is great, as shown on the animation. SUMMARY Best set of the first four! Looks great, and has nice functions that work smoothly. Wheels happily rolls on most surfaces, but will roll poorly on a parquet and smooth tiles, and wont roll at all on a flat table. Younger builders will enjoy the mechanisms inside and how they translate to actual functions. Older builders will enjoy its realistic look and functions, in a pretty small package of 171 parts! If you have to choose from one of four smallest sets in 1H 2018, take this one! SCORE How do I grade this machine. 8 DESIGN For such a small set consisting of only 171 parts, this is an excellent model. 7 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Certainly not boring, clever usage of parts. 8 FEATURES Steering and blade function. 8 PLAYABILITY Two functions great for playing, but can only push. Can't load and unload materials as a bucket could. 7 PARTS Two parts in new color. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY If you like construction machines, consider this set! 7,7

[REVIEW] 42073: BASH!
Milan replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You're welcome! Very true. Will do just that. I have a small park outside my building, hopefully it have some nice flat-ish surface for me to test these two. I was also thinking about the idea to make them all wheel drive via chain, or rubber band, or via two Pullback motors, and to test them outside on a rough terrain once. This specific test would be unofficial, ofc. -
