  1. INTRODUCTION Starting with the 42010 - Off-road Racer and 42011 - Race Car in 2013, TLG released two sets in the first half of each year, using a pull-back motor. The pull-back motor allows the model to be pulled back, followed by forward motion. Usually there's no apparent relation between the two set, other than the ability to combine them into an alternate build. This year there seems to some sort of racing scene going on, between 42072: WHACK! and 42073: BASH, two of the very similar racing machines. Makes you wonder who will be victorious, the green or the red racer. Let's find out! Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42073 Title: BASH! Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 139 Box Weight: 299 gr Box Dimensions: 26,0 cm x 13,8 cm x 6,9 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 19,99 Price per Part: € 0,143 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box has the same dimensions as previous year's pullback motor sets. The weight of the box is approximately 299 grams. Looking at the box, it seems our racer is in a middle of a fierce race. We can see it on track covered with dirt, with audience cheering. Dominant colors are red a,d black, and, as in a case with its lime green competitor, it has a striking effect! FRONT SIDE In the lower left corner there is "pullback" marking. In the lower right corner there's a visual explanation of the model's function, more on that later. BACK SIDE The alternate model, the "WHACK! 'N' BASH!", is a combined build with 42072: WHACK!, which you can see on the upper part of the backside. The double rear-wheeled rugged formula one/truck/jeep type racer seems to be cool enough to give it a go. It seems we get two ejecting sections on this vehicle: cabin, and engine. One of the sides shows a picture of the main model, with a visual explanation of the pullback mechanism, and ejecting engine. One of the sides also shows picture of the main model, and one of the panels with sticker in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 1 Instructions Booklet 1 Sticker Sheet 2 Technic Liftarms 2 Tires 56 x 26 Balloon 2 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLET The instruction booklet for the main model. Unfortunately no booklet for the combined model. Instructions can be downloaded for free on official Lego site. EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet shows red/blue/black details: presumably sponsors, racing number and fuel cap on side panels, and engine cover on 1x4 tile. LIFTARMS Two liftarms haven't been sealed in plastic bags. TIRES Two bigger tires (of the four tires) haven't been sealed in plastic bags. Those are Tire 56 x 26 Balloon. BAGS Two bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. PULLBACK MOTOR Pullback motor is placed in the biggest bag, and is a core part of this model. TIRES This pullback racer is a bit different than lime green one in a way that it has different looking tires on front and back. At the front of the vehicle there are smaller 43.2mm D. x 26mm Balloon Small tires. They do appear in 26 other sets. At the back of the vehicle there are bigger 56 x 26 Balloon tires. They do appear in 40 other sets. I very much like this setup: bigger tires at the back, and smaller on the front. I makes it look pretty different than 42072: WHACK!. Nice. Finally, all four tires together: PART LIST This set contains 139 parts, shown below. THE BUILD Since it's a small model, I will skip the building steps. I hereby present the finished 42073: BASH!. Red is really working here. I like how it kinda leans forward, i.e. its visual center of mass is toward the front. I think it looks more muscular that way, and more aggressive than 42072. Almost like red Batmobile. There are three stickers, which add some flashy details to the model. The model looks good without stickers, too, but I think it needs them more than 42072. Looking from this angle, we can notice flames right next to the engine, tires are spot on. The chassis is pretty basic, sporting the pullback motor in the rear axle. LEFTOVER PARTS A few common leftover parts. FUNCTIONS PULLBACK By winding up the Pullback motor, i.e. pulling the model backwards and releasing the model, you can achieve pretty good speed. If there is not enough space in front of the race car, you could easily hit the wall or some other obstacle... Which may actually be what designer had in mind all along...as the other function is... CRASH Second function is shown on the box. In front of the model there is a mechanism, in a form of red 2x4 L liftarm, which allows the engine to eject when the model hits the obstacle. Even at high speed crash, the engine does not eject itself too high, so there is no danger of engine hitting the young racer. SUMMARY Worthy competitor to 42072: WHACK!. Works great. Does it look good? Yes, it does. I like it more than 42072. Mainly for its more aggressive and tougher look. And for its tires! SCORE How do I grade the red guy in this year's duo. 7 DESIGN Looks like a muscle car. With rugged tires. Kinda like Nolan's Batmobile. Nuff said. 6 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Nothing out of the ordinary. 7 FEATURES Pull-back and ejecting engine. 9 PLAYABILITY Combined with the 42072: WHACK!, kids (and I) will love it! 6 PARTS This set does not have any new parts, nor parts in new colors, except for stickers. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Pullback sets always deliver a certain value. 7,2 WHO WILL BE VICTORIOUS? We can't really measure the looks (BASH! is better looking ), but we can compare their speed and acceleration. We can easily notice that 42073: BASH! has bigger back tires. So, in theory, it should be faster. But it's not. It is slower. Having bigger tires also means the pullback motor will be less winded up, compared to 42072: WHACK!, on a same stretch of the road. And, of course, it accelerates slower. On my 8 metres tiled floor/race track, up to 3 meters (one floor tile used for winding up), the results were clear, green guy always wins. When I tried to use length of two floor tiles for winding up the motors, shape of the tires started to be a problem. Namely, big tires of 42073 have so little contact with the ground, that they spin in place after i release the model, and after they lose some of the power by spinning, the racer barely makes half the way 42072 has done. I could not find the sweet spot where it could beat the 42072. Let's see how people around the world rate them: On Brickset site, at the moment of posting this review, here are some numbers: 42072: WHACK!: 211 people own this set, and 276 want it. 42073: BASH!: 208 own this set, and 281 want it. On Bricklink site, at the moment of posting this review, here are some numbers: 42072: WHACK!: Times Sold: 6, Total Qty: 13, Total Qty for sale: 348 42073: BASH!: Times Sold: 4, Total Qty: 8, Total Qty for sale: 296 Which one is your favorite? Thank you for reading. I hope you will find it useful!
  2. They are two models, and even they are tiny, it is fair to review them separately. Combo model is in plan, indeed!
  3. Yep, it is done, just tidying it up before posting
  4. Hehe, it is quite the opposite for me. The other one (red one) is more defined as a rugged buggy, it has bigger back tires etc...but given the amount of parts, both are okay.

Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 135 Box Weight: 302 gr Box Dimensions: 26,0 cm x 13,8 cm x 6,9 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 19,99 Price per Part: € 0,148 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX The box has the same dimensions as previous year's pullback motor sets. Lime green seems very fitting for a race car, and it successfully attracts attention to the box. The weight of the box is approximately 302 grams. FRONT SIDE In the lower left corner there is "pullback" marking. In the lower right corner there's a visual explanation of the model's function, more on that later. BACK SIDE The alternate model, the "WHACK! 'N' BASH!, is a combined build with 42073: BASH!, which you can see on the upper part of the backside. EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP STICKER SHEET The sticker sheet shows lime green/black details: presumably sponsors, racing number and fuel cap on side panels, and engine cover on a tile. LIFTARMS Two liftarms haven't been sealed in plastic bags. BAGS Three bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. PULLBACK MOTOR Pullback motor is placed in the biggest bag, and is a core part of this model. TIRES 43.2 x 22 ZR Tires, also used on other Pullback sets. They do appear in 60 other sets though, so they aren't very rare. PART LIST This set contains 135 parts, shown below. THE BUILD Since it's a small model, I will skip the building steps. I hereby present the finished 42072: WHACK! I was optimistic about lime green in a racing model, and seeing it in real life does add a kick to this set. There are three stickers, which add some flashy details to the model. The model looks good without stickers, too. Looking from this angle, we can notice flames, which add a lot of character to the model. I like the exposed meaty back tires. Even at high speed crash, the engine does not eject itself too high, so there is no danger of engine hitting the young racer. SUMMARY Pullback motor? Light weight/high speed? Race car/rugged formula shape? Well, i think kids will have fun with this small racer. Does it look good? Younger racers will probably like it. I prefer something that looks a bit more defined, even though, I am aware that this set is small and has limited number of parts. I guess this it will have mixed opinions regarding its look. Its main strength is in numbers! Use its (evil) brother - 42073: BASH! and you got yourself a true drag race! Just don't forget to provide enough open space for youngsters! SCORE How do I grade the lime green guy in this year's duo. 6 DESIGN The lime green works. So do stickers. 6 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Nothing out of the ordinary. 7 FEATURES Pull-back and ejecting engine. 9 PLAYABILITY Combined with the 42073: BASH! kids will love it! 6 PARTS This set does not have any new parts, nor parts in new colors. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY Pullback sets always deliver a certain value. 7 Thank you for reading. I hope you will find it useful!
  6. Thanks guys! In about 30 minutes, (pullback) motors are gonna roar in a new topic!
  7. INTRODUCTION The smallest of the 2018 sets, is the Hook Loader. A hook lift truck is a heavy duty truck that is fitted with a hydraulic hook lift hoist system. The hydraulic hook lift hoist system allows haulers to quickly change various types of roll off containers, generally designed for the transportation of materials in the waste, recycling, scrap and demolition industries. Probably due to intricate loading mechanism, we have seen many instances of hook lift trucks being built as Lego models, both officially from Lego, in a form of LEGO Technic Container Truck (8052) ... and lots of nice models from mocers. My personal favorite, is a Hook Lift truck model, made by Jennifer Clark. Note: Most images can be clicked for hi-res versions. SET INFORMATION Number: 42084 Title: Hook Loader Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 176 Box Weight: 265 gr Box Dimensions: 15,5 cm x 13,9 cm x 6,8 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 12,95 Price per Part: € 0,073 Links: Brickset, Bricklink THE BOX Being a small set, it obviously comes in a small box. The box measures 15,5 cm x 13,9 cm x 6,8 cm which is obviously not very big. The weight of the box is approximately 265 grams. FRONTSIDE The front of the box shows our Hook Loader unloading its container, standing on rough dirt surface, with some blurred buildings in the background. The box also states that this model is for the age of 7 till 14. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. BACKSIDE The backside shows a picture of the alternate model, which is the Airport Fire Truck. The conversion arrow and the 2-in-1 are printed to clarify that the main model can be converted into a secondary model. One of the sides shows a picture of the main model, and one of the wheels in actual size. CONTENT OF THE BOX The box contains: 2 Instructions Booklet 2 Technic Panels 3 Bags INSTRUCTION BOOKLETS The instruction booklet for the main model: (both booklets came folded in the box) The instruction booklet for the alternate model: EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP PANELS Dark Bluish Gray Technic Panels haven't been sealed in plastic bags. BAGS Three bags containing the rest of the parts. HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new and/or otherwise interesting parts. Axle Pin 3L with Friction Ridges Lengthwise and 1L Axle in RED This 3L Axle Pin has never been released in red before for general public and easily obtainable. This year, it was released in 8 sets in this color, and it was also released in one set in 2017, The Nutcracker (Lego 2017 Employee Exclusive). Technic Panel Curved 3x11 in DARK BLUISH GRAY This Technic Panel 3x11 has never been released in Dark Bluish Gray before. This year, it was released in 3 sets in this color: Hook Loader, Mack Anthem and Rally Car. TIRES These 30.4 x 14 Tires aren't very rare. They appear in 79 other sets. We got four tires in this set. PART LIST This set contains 176 parts, shown below. THE BUILD The build is not very fun, and is pretty straightforward. FINISHED MODEL Here is the finished Hook Loader! Since it's a small model, i was on the fence about its look and functions. Seeing it's functions in real life takes every doubt away, they work flawlessly. More on functions later. On the other side, look is not on par with functions. Given the fact that the model has small number of parts compared to average Technic set, visual aspect of the model had to be affected. Overall, look is satisfactory if you keep in mind how basic the set is. It does look like a truck, and even has some amount of detailing like black parts to simulate windshield or grill. I don't like low ground clearance in the front, due to the steering mechanism, and back tires could be placed a bit toward the front, it would look more balanced. The model does not have stickers, and as a simple truck/construction machine, it is probably better this way. The chassis is pretty basic, with steering system and hook lift mechanism occupying central part of the chassis. LEFTOVER PARTS A few common leftover parts. FUNCTIONS Here's a short presentation showing the model's two functions. STEERING Steering is done via the 12 Tooth Double Bevel gear at the back of the cabin, it does not have steering wheel. The gear is easily accessible. The turning radius is quite big, which slightly reduces playability. HOOK LIFT Hook Lift mechanism is operated by black 12T Double Bevel gear, marked on the animation. It turns three 8t gears, which in turn moves the hook and container. Operation is smooth, it has some friction, but that helps the hook to stop in any position. Container has "rollers" at its end, so it can glide on flat surfaces. It also has a nice trick to keep the container from sliding left-right when loaded onto the truck. Namely it has 2L liftarm at the back, which is secured on one point. When the container is loaded on the truck, the liftarm slides/drops between the chassis' main frame and keep the container stable. Being the main function of the model, the hook lift part is done very well. SUMMARY I think this is one clever small set. Its target audience, kids, will love this set. It does look like a truck, and even better, it looks like a truck that is drawn and imagined by a kid, in a good way. I have a luck that i have my young relative with me, and he is very excited about this set. His favorite part about it...the hook lift mechanism, ofc. He enjoyed filling the container with bricks and plates, and move them to other location, watching it unload etc... Be careful, though, 1x1 parts can slip through container's floor. Side plus: I enjoyed being asked to explain many things on real life trucks to him...this set clearly boosted his curiosity. SCORE 6 DESIGN Simple colors works nice. Looks like a truck, but very basic. Overall good given the amount of parts. 6 BUILDING EXPERIENCE Nothing out of the ordinary. 9 FEATURES For its size, it has two great functions. 9 PLAYABILITY Kids love it! 7 PARTS Common parts and colors, two parts in new colors. 8 VALUE FOR MONEY I would buy this set for my young relative in no time. 7,5 Hook on! Thank you for reading. Hope you will find it useful.

    911

@legophisto has finished his beautiful Porsche 911. Take a closer look at this model at Scale Modelling Forum!
  15. Let's use English on this forums. Thanks.
  16. It is not so much about messing the layout, it is more about users with slower net. It quickly adds up once there is 10 or more photos per page (which is very common for WIP topics). Yes, but you can do that for your first post, too. As noted, you can use any image hosting site and link image with proper size, many sites allow on-site resizing.
  17. Hi, welcome to EB! Nice to hear you picked up Lego after so much time! On another note, please take a look at the Guidelines. Size of the pictures need to be max 1024. Please link smaller pictures. Have fun!
  18. This model may be the very last model of our talented builder @shineyu. We hope it is not, and we also hope we will see much more vehicles like this from him. In a meantime, check this beautiful Groove mobile crane HERE.
  19. Nice. In a few days, it will hit the Frontpage!
  20. @pagicence Hi, welcome! Nice chassis you got there, hope to see the whole finished! Another note, EB's image max size is 1024. So please try to resize your photos a bit. Thanks and have fun!
  21. Hope you will sort the problems soon. About the crane, well, probably your best work so far. Grove cranes are hard to capture in bricks, but you did a great job.
  22. Check out the top three winners, and every entry here, or just click on the picture! Link is not bugged, it just works! The Tiger Pull Bug 1st
