Hi, the error is generally risen when you have chosen a destination folder for the Part Library different from the default c:\lDraw and you already have the c:\lDraw folder on your HD. To fix the problem, use the <File>.<Setup Directories> option to choose the correct folder you install the part library to. If you can't remember it, search your hard disk for the "Conns" folder. Its parent folder is the correct one! Hope this can help you Sergio

Hi, most probably the problem is due to the fact I'm using MS DirectX instead of OpenGL library for my application graphics. Moreover, the shaders have been rewritten to allow back-face-lighting. This way VMWare emulation is not capable to emulate the graphic device needed by the application. Mac world is not in my work so I really don't know how to help you... Sergio

Hi, Happy you finally like it. About your questions: - The save function will be implemented for sure. What you got is just a patch to test the new rotation mode. - You can actually regulate the tube length size by using QAWS keys to make it short or long, but you still can't fix the length and move the ending part. It will possible when I implement flexible axles and tube animation. Have to wait for this... - Complex tubes have to be generate by parts. If you create a single tube by a compound curve, then you will not be able to set the tension of each segment causing the whole tube to be shorter o longer. That is not safe when you need a tube that needs to be "near" other parts. Anyway it maybe in a next release that modifying the position of a joint between two tubes both of them will follow the new position (not so easy to do!!) enjoy building Sergio

Hi, You should find a program group named SR 3D Builder, and under it the application itself with the uninstall utility. If not, you probably missed something. Try reinstall it. Also read the common problem/solution in the official forum. Sergio Hi again, due to the high number of requests, I have added the ability to change some User Interface parameters: using the View. Preferences.User Interface options you can now: - Switch between my Rotation model style and the most classical rotation model that allows only rotation around Y plane or around the horizon line - Invert the zoom mouse wheel direction - Invert the Y plane tilting Download the new executable (and overwrite the existing one) from the following link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GQUL5NYR Sergio

Part library are officially updated 2 or 3 times in a year from lDraw. Anyway, nearly daily some new parts are added to the unofficial parts database. My application cannot detect it, but at any new release it includes all newly available parts you can find at lDraw. About camera controls, in my opinion are not that bad. You probably are used with LDD and the difference is noticeable. I don't say one is better than the other: simply they are different. When I use LDD i find that its camera control is not good for me, starting with the fact you cannot define your own a model rotation center! That's a lack for me, but I say for me. Many LDD users don't care about it, but for me is a problem, like the fact that it is not so easy to add a brick 'under' another... but this is just my opinion... byes Sergio

The latest version 0.5.5.3 of the application has just been released and is available for download from http://staff.polito.it/sergio.reano/ Here is a list of changes: Added - Flex tube connection support for many parts including pneumatic. Please note that pneumatics is still not implemented as animation functionality. Also composed pneumatic parts do not have connections snap resulting in difficult assembly. Wait for next release... - Flex Add-And-Continue capabilities to create long and complex flex parts Fixed - Editing of flex parts is now more stable and comfortable. Anyway AVOID mixing selection with Flexs - Even better initial/termination in flexible parts - Some issues in steering system when multi steers driven by a single axle - Added an internal defined part for ribbed hose avoiding errors when updating unofficial parts library Any comment is welcome Sergio

LDD 4.0 to be released in September
xSergio74 replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, about gear animation like real life model there is at least one application that is already offering that functionality from more than one year. It works with gears, racks, differential, universal joint and many other parts. You can build working steering system and many other mechanism. Have a try with SR 3D builder. -

Hi, Maybe many of you still don't know deeply the UI, since the manual is still far from being complete. I want to say that you can set the rotation center of your model to whatever part inside your model. Just hover on it, right click and select "set rotation center" option. If nothing is selected, model rotates around your selected rotation center, otherwise it will rotate around your first selected or adding part. Here is a link to a new video I just upload to youtube to show what I'm working on: flex parts enjoy... and wait Sergio

Hi, I don't know if you have tried latest 0.5.1.4 version of the application. It has some enhancement in the UI even if the camera control is still not what you expect. As author of the program I don't find its control so bad after you get used with. It's better than LDD when part of the model get out of view and you cannot add the part where you need! The keyboard parts movement on the grid will be abandoned since now everything can be controlled just with the mouse of touchpad (except for PGUP/PGDOWN) and the AutoOrienting feature work correctly... The application purpose is not to create paper instructions. Anyway you can add building step to your model and pause loading on step (or on brick if you prefer) in order to show model construction steps while loading. byes Sergio

Hi, happy you like it!! You requests are good, but not so easy to implement, or , better, I have not the time to do that all since I'm the only programmer!! Anyway: - Part library image resizing is not too difficult to do - The camera control is not that bad, even if I know that many of you are used with LDD and it keeps the horizon line fixed while rotating a model. It maybe I will implement it as an option in a next release - You can zoom with just the mouse wheel if you press it while rotating, as you can pan view while pressing the wheel and moving the mouse - About changing UI is not so easy at all since changing some functionality somewhere causes a probable effect overlapping with other functionality. Please take the patient to get used with the application... Now working on flex parts like tube and hose!! best regards ...and talk with your friend about SR 3D Builder Sergio

[Software] LDD Manager
xSergio74 replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, great stuff! I would like to suggest you an additional functionality: Since you are able to convert Lego Part ID to BrickLink part ID, then it would be great if you can save LDD model in .ldr file format that is compatible either with MLCad software or SR 3D Builder application. LDD has the option to export the model in .ldr format, but there are too missed parts and holes to be able to load the model in MLCad. Do you think it is possible? byes Sergio -
SR 3D Builder 0.5.1.3 released
xSergio74 replied to xSergio74's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, on the site there is a new version with just some small fixes to remove annoying interference between the 3arrowed axles, now called Displacement Caddy (D-Caddy) and other interface functionality. Also added a quick color selection: read history tab on website for details and news. If anyone has a more adequate name for that object (the 3 axle with the arrows around and the center) please let me know... Same website... Byes Sergio -
About the camera, I imagine it was on the other thread about SR 3D Builder 0.5.1.3 and not on this! I can figure out that he's talking about LDD since in my application parts connections fits exactly and automatically each others A bout importing, probably he was saying that cannot import LDD models into SR3DBuilder due to the different file formats. An finally, No, I'm not using Serious Editor. The whole application is a my creation! byes Sergio

SR 3D Builder 0.5.1.3 released
xSergio74 replied to xSergio74's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, you can try to export your model in .ldr file format from LDD and then load it from SR3DBuilder, but I cannot grant the result for 2 reasons: - Part definition in LDD is quite different from the one I'm using (compatible with lDraw/MLCad standard) - My application uses a high precise and automated part positioning. If model are not correctly build then animations will not be detected Anyway you can try Sergio Hi, after a bit of experience you will find the interface I used by far better than any other you try before. I recommend reading manual to deeply understand its functionality and flexibility Sergio -
Hi everybody, It's publish time !!!! Here is my new release of SR 3D Builder 0.5.1.3 with astonishing new functionality and interface!! Am I exaggerating? Well, let me know! Application available for free as always (even if a small contribution is welcome :D ) from http://staff.polito.it/sergio.reano Here is a video introducing new functionality: Sergio

SR 3D Builder LEGO CAD
xSergio74 replied to xSergio74's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi again, for the fans, yet another video to show even more complex functionality implemented: a gear moves a rack that move 2 combined quadbars Since images worth's more than words, here is the link for the video. You won't believe. Unlike any other 3D animation suites (for LEGO or for professional use) you need not to define anything!! Just position the parts in the model and the application will recognize the available animations. Be patient for the new version! Still need some tests!!!!! Sergio -

Hi everybody! Before continue, if anyone is bored by my posts, please let me know and I will limit to only the new releases from now on... Anyway, nearly a month is passed from my last release and now is time for some news I'm working on. I have just published a new video showing new kinematic capabilities included in next release 0.5.1.1 (STILL NOT RELEASED) http://www.youtube.com/user/xSergio74 Also I recommend to HAVE A LOOK TO MY FAVORITES LIST in my YouTube channel to understand what other are already doing with this GREAT application. I apologize for the happiness, but me myself get astonished looking to what the application can manage right now. That's all folks for now. Stay tuned for next release, hopefully mid may. Sergio -

SR 3D Builder LEGO CAD
xSergio74 replied to xSergio74's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, If you read my message, you can see that racks only support basic functionality for steering and NO hinges connections (like balljoint, amortizer, hinges or any other). Rack functionality is far from being complete. This release was anticipated due to missed part displayed in the toolbox u-joints should work right now. If they don't it should be due to a displacements error. Sergio
