Where are all the bricks?
xSergio74 replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, you're right about my confusion !! You give me a GREAT hint and really easy to accomodate! now, to create a portable version, things should be by far much more easy than you expect if your PC already meets my application requirements (MS framework 2.0 and correct DirectX version). Following these steps should work, assuming you have a USB memory with 128MB or more free space as U: driver and you have performed a standard application installation of my application: 1- Copy the contents of the c:\lDraw folder and subfolders into U:\ 2- Create a folder on U to store my application system files (i.e. U:\SR3DB) 3- Copy the contents of my application installation folder (usually c:\Program Files\SR3DBuilder) in U:\SR3DB (you can avoid copying the unins*.* and fulldownload.exe files ) 4- Start SR3DBuilder.exe from U:\SR3DB 5a- If prompted for choosing the part library folder, choose U:\lDraw 5b- If NOT prompted for choosing the part library folder, choose File-->Setup Directory from SR3DB menu and select U:\lDraw folder you should be able to run the application from the USB stick now. It works at first try for me!! Please also notice the following: - on any computer you run SR3DB the first time or anytime your USB stick change its associated drive letter you have to repeat step 5a - parts image loading will be tedious the first time are displayed (then will be cached) - the extension .l3b is not associated with the application - some registry entries are written while using the application - maybe some other issues -

ehm... what do you exactly mean with a portable version of the application? Sergio -

There are just 4 problems in doing it: 1. I don't have a MAC 2. I'm the only developer 3. I don't know where to start from in writing a MAC OSx application 4. I have not the time to try it 5.... Sergio -

What I'm going to say here don't want to be offensive in anyway: it is just my thought. If you (or anybody else here) retain it is inappropriate, then remove my consideration. What I mean is that I really can't understand why so many people can continue using LDD due to its great limitation either in part availability or in part assemblies. Every day i read about many tricks you have to use to connect parts that in real lego have no problem to connect. If this is a kiddy application than there should be not this problems or others, like to manually enter rotation angles !!! On the other side, if this is going to be a AFOL application, then people could expect more from it: rendering quality is not enough!! At least some animation and/or building tools for technic builders are a MUST for it. Also a mirror building feature, many, many times claimed from user is not so difficult to implement: it takes less than a month to be realized in my application and was alone to develop it. after saying that, well, anyone is free to use the tools he wants:laugh: byes and enjoy Sergio -

Help using SR 3D
xSergio74 replied to loading...'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, to add a part: - Click on the part on toolbox - move and orient the part using the mouse (left click + move to move, left click on RGB arrows to rotate) - when you find a good place for it, fix it with <Space> or <Enter> or Right-Click on yellow and blue center - you are now ready to add another copy of the same part or pick a new one from toolbox Please remember that SR3DBuilder IS NOT LDD so the interface is different, and, when you are a bit glued with it, much more powerful. Also have a quick look to the manual. Sergio (author of SR3D Builder ) -

rubber bands in sr 3d
xSergio74 replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, to add a belt to your model, operate this way: - Choose the color for your belt - Right click on first pulley and select "Belt generator option" - Right click on second pulley and again select the "Belt generator option" - The application will do the rest Remember that pulleys have to be aligned in order to the belt can be generated and that not all all part can be belted (i.e. you cannot belt two bricks). Also remember that only 2 pulley can be involved and that you can't create cross belts. Hope this can help you! Sergio (author of the application) -
HI, it is a false positive, probably because I open an hidden frame to remote execute a script that counts the visits on the site since the official web server cannot support scripts. My site and my software is 100% virus free as certified by softpedia http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/SR-3D-Builder-Clean-152209.html

Hi, my application uses near the same file format used by lDraw/MLCad lego editors, so you can use the same methods you use with them to make professional renders. As a starting information, just rename model files (or better make a copy renaming files) with extension .DAT and then follow this links: http://sr3d.spoonclan.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=42 (official SR3D Builder forum) http://www.ldraw.org/Downloads.html where you can find many useful utilities and information for POV-Ray rendering software enjoy Sergio

Another consideration: it seems that only a few people is using LDD to create technic models since the technic pin is the only technic part appearing in the top twenty Sergio -

Hi, maybe SR 3D Builder (http://staff.polito.it/sergio.reano) could be a solution for your problems. - It has and shares the same part library used by MLCad - It has a by far easier interface than MLCad even if probably LDD ones is more intuitive - It works in a full 3D environments - It allows some kinds of connections normally not allowed by LDD - It supports all parts (old and new) - It has advanced animation capabilities - It has mirror building features - It has nearly the same file format used by MLCad so you can easily create high quality images using pov-ray the same way - It has been created by me But: - it has no instruction build capabilities even if it could display model on screen and pause while loading - it requires Microsoft DirectX instead of OpenGL libraries - it runs only in windows environment (XP-Vista-Seven) Sergio

SR3d builder to LPub
xSergio74 replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, it maybe due to the fact that SR 3D Builder uses a separate folder for 'unofficial' parts. That folder need to be included in MLCad search paths to allow it to search in that additional folder. To do that, you need to change the MLCad.ini file (not needed by SR 3D builder since it natively search this folder). Please refer to documentation on this link to perform needed changes: http://www.holly-wood.it/mlcad/customizing-en.html Byes Sergio -
Hi, I cannot see the images you posted, anyway, as workaround, reset windows font size to their default and you should have no visualization problem. for the rest... I have not the time to do everything you would like but: - point 2 is not too difficult to do, maybe one day... - point 3 nothing can be done at the moment. Consider that using the 'set grid to brick' functionality you can quickly align the grid with whatever part in the model and then easily connect the part - point 4: saving your changes in instruction miner and then saving the model, causes the part will be saved in the order you specify in instruction miner - point 5: use *xxxx to search for a part number in toolbox text search HAVE a look to the manual also !! Sergio New version 0.5.6.2 with some really needed fixes for previous version about flex axles NON usability. As before, download from my website: http://staff.polito.it/sergio.reano I apologize for this. Sergio

Hi everybody I'm proud to announce my latest release of the application with some great new functionality. Here is the list of what's new: Added - The ability to switch between standard user interface with free rotation, and a more common user interface having separate X and Y rotation axis and a fixed (not selection dependant) rotation centre (see preference dialog box for switching) - Fixed length flex parts (Flex Axle, Tubes and Ribbed Hoses) Fixed - Problem when adding a rack while having a Technic Gear 24 Tooth Clutch in your model - Axle misalignement while connecting to angled connectors parts - Hidden (wrong) connection detection among gears in specific positions - Some bugs in hinges movements when parallel quad were sharing 2 rotation points (nodes) - A bug was preventing correct import of .DAT files (MLCad file format) when having submodels Changed - Group management has been totally rewritten. Now support: o Hierarchyc groups o Layered groups o Hide/Show groups available as always from http:\\staff.polito.it\sergio.reano and here is a video (a bit longer than usual, but it worth): enjoy and feedback and please, some little contribution for my hard work :col: Sergio

LDD 4 is released!
xSergio74 replied to Daedalus304's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, here are my consideration after about half an hour of testing: PROs - the new graphic is amazing - the FLEX tool is really funny, but works only on 2 or 3 parts. I didn't find how to curve the 'outer cable'. Have anyone a list of parts that can be curved? CONs - the hinge tools rotation seems no longer support deformation of quads hinge connected parts - many features are still missed like a basic mirror copy or building - many (too many) missed parts - no support for animation especially for technic models - you still have to manually rotate parts to connect them (for example to connect an axle with an axle hole) - when you want to hinge rotate a part having more than one rotating axle, you cannot choose the rotation axle - placing gears is annoying: you have to rotate then in a way their tooth don't collide before placing I'm sorry, but I still don't like it... anyway this is just my opinion Sergio -
SR3d builder to LPub
xSergio74 replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, you should have no problem at all, since .L3B file format is nearly the same as a .Dat file created with MLCad. Follow the same steps you use with MLCad to feed lPub. I never try that but I know many people are doing it. You may also have a look to this forum for further details http://www.setechnic.com/Forum/lego-ordinateur.html Sergio
