I know, it was my hammer design. But I like the use of the round tile on the end in place of the square one I used. Now I need to get some 1x1 round tiles like that!

Very nice. I really like your modification to that hammer!

MEC Category C: Bullroarer Took
MiloNelsiano replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks guys. I thought this would be a fairly unique scene, and it was always one I enjoyed in the book. The build itself turned out rather plain, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to replace any of my placeholders but I enjoyed building it nonetheless. -

2a. It Sounds like he already has a little food so shelter would be the most important in nocturnus. -
Hello. I too am a US resident living in Germany thanks to my wife. Kinda neat to meet someone else in my situation!

Just have them at different levels. As it is, they look too lined up--you could draw a straight line from the tops of all three and the line would touch all three tops. Changing the positions of two of them would make a big difference. For example, place the middle one lowest, and the far left one a little higher, positioned as the middle one is now. Hope this made sense!

I really like this build. The snow technique is perfect. I have been wanting to do a MOC of this scene for quite some time, as I think it is one of the best from the movie to include all 9 members from the fellowship. My one critique is that the icicles above Gimli and the hobbits look too patterned and regular. Otherwise, it all looks very natural.

"If you have ever seen a dragon in a pinch, you will realize that this was only poetical exaggeration applied to any hobbit, even to Old Took's great-grand-uncle Bullroarer, who was so huge (for a hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He charged the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of the Green Fields, and knocked their king Golfimbul's head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit-hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf invented at the same moment." -The Hobbit Untitled Untitled Untitled I decided to post this as-is for now, as I'm now second-guessing whether it fits the category or not (it is a scene depicted straight out of Bilbo's book, but Bilbo is not in it). Realizing that I can edit the post and pictures before the deadline is up, I decided to go ahead and post it, despite having several place-holders that will be replaced when the new Hobbit sets come out at my local store. Any and all feedback is much appreciated and desired. Also, if someone can definitely clarify if this fits the category or not, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm not really sure if this belongs here or not...but today while looking for a few figures on my CMF 12 to-find list, I bought a few, and looked at the receipt, and was only charged 1.99 Euro per figure. Has anyone else encountered this price? It seemed so odd to me, especially at a grocery store.

I'm a little intimidated by so many people entering Category C, the only one I felt able to enter at the moment, and more intimidated that you're entering as well! I look forward to seeing it. I'm really hoping the new Hobbit sets show up in my local store so I can switch out some place holders in my Cat. C entry before the deadline is up!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

I agree that Bricklink is the best option for flags. But if you're set on getting a readily available set with sand green in it to add to your brick collection, the new Hobbit set "The Lonely Mountain" has a good amount of sand green. Pretty expensive set though! -

2A. I like this idea quite a Bit!

Thanks! I'm glad a few of you liked the hammer design. Just the other day I came up with a design for a mace I don't think I've seen used before. Now I just need an idea for a new moc to use it in.

Very nice build. I'm assuming this is a much more historically accurate way of smelting iron than I showed in my recent moc. I like showing the process like this and have been working on a few different ideas to show different processes as well.

Guilds of Historica New Member Guide

Is there. Like button on here somewhere? In all seriousness, behemoth, aside from the pattern kabel mentioned, from what I've seen, what you want most out of this forum is to blow people away, stand out, be unique, be envied, etc. etc. etc. Everyone wants other people to tell them how amazing their mocs are. But the average builder like you and me are simply not able to make jaw dropping front page mocs like others (Gideon). What I've noticed is that since you cannot currently make mocs like that, you try other ways to stand out, such as wanting advanced technology that no one else has, or finding new lands on the other side of historical that no one else has been to. But if this was allowed, don't you think someone else would have done so? Book one would have been awful boring if someone had advanced firearm technology and was able to kill Revolword and all the drow he loves in a matter of minutes because someone decided they came up with the technology. The great thing about this forum, and it really is great, and the reason I joined, is that it's not just a forum. It's a community of people very willing to help you improve with your builds. That's a very big point of the forum to begin with, so people can improve their mocs. So even though regular fans of lego like you and I aren't able to build those jaw dropping mocs today, we can at least be working on techniques and developing our own individual building styles. Believe me, it's much better to be known for your own building style than to be known for turning historica into your own story. Everyone giving you criticism is doing so to help you be a part of the community. Remember that. -

If you have the pieces for it definitely do a stained glass type window under the arch in the back (if you weren't planning on it already). Also, if the large figure in the center depicts the father in your five fold religion I'd give him a beard and some hair if you have them in white. Another thing you could try with the pointed arches is to raise the front pair of arches one brick to give it a layered effect. I hope that made sense. I'm also not 100% sold on the design with the vertically striped bricks although I'm not sure what I'd replace them with. All in all not a bad start. I've been considering a temple build and like the use of white arches quite a bit. -
Avalonia Task 4 Blacksmith in Oros
MiloNelsiano replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thank you all for the feedback! I agree the base needs a little more. I was originally trying to keep it simple, as the focus of this was on the equipment, but this is probably too simple. I considered UoP but being overwhelmed coming in I thought I'd skip it for now, work on avalonian tasks and developing my characters storyline a little without getting too concerned about the rest. I will give it more consideration in the future however. I did consider this but decided not to at the last minute. I might play with it later and see how it looks. -

Blacksmith is up! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100501 -
In the land of Oros in Northern Avalonia, the lords Farwind believe that to lead his people, a lord should partake in the work he expects his followers to do. The current lord, Orys works on a local farm, while his son and heir Osric works as a blacksmith in the town of Osgard which lies below their seat at Valley View Hall. The smithy belongs to a young woman named Christine, who paints the shields, breastplates, and other armour as ordered. She inherited the shop when her father died, as both her brothers were already dead, killed by Revolword's elementals. Although a blacksmith's work is typically repairing farming and other equipment, with so much hostility happening in the lands, and especially with rumors of rising tensions in Mitgardia, many people are seeking talented blacksmiths to make armour and weapons. Today Osric is working on a commissioned sword for Lord Cassius of Burnby. Osryc starts at the smelter. Once there is enough coal in the smelter and it is burning hot enough he adds some fine quality iron ore, which was mined from an abandoned dwarvish mine running under Oros, and was discovered while hunting a group of Drow underground. (I forgot to get a picture in here of working the bellows in the smelter. ) Soon when the ore is heated with the coal, purified iron begins to run down the chute and into the bar mould. Once it has hardened, Osric picks it up from the mold to heat it once more, this time using an open furnace, with his apprentice working the bellows. Once it gets to a workable temperature Osric begins to hammer on it. Reheating often and hammering more, the sword begins to take shape. And after several hours of reheating and hammering, the sword begins to take its final form. When finished it is plunged into a barrel of water to harden the metal. The sword is then worked on the grinding wheel until razor sharp. The result is a weapon powerful enough to make even a small boy feel like a bold warrior. I had a lot of fun building this. I had a lot of challenges that I feel I was able to overcome. The pictures are not the best, as I was continually moving pieces to get better angles at the different equipment. I'm not completely satisfied with the base, but feel like it serves its purpose for the time being. The upstairs is also furnished, but unfinished (pictures below). I hope you guys enjoyed! Bonus pictures: One last note, I'm neither a historian nor a blacksmith. If I got any part of this process wrong let me know! Thanks!
