Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
MiloNelsiano replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
The smithy I've been working on is nearing completion. Once my latest bricklink order arrives, I think I'll be able to finish it. The building structure itself is a little plain, but I think the interior is nice, as will the yard with all the equipment and Tools (I hope). Anyway I've been wanting to do some kind of collaboration with someone, so I thought it might be interesting, since my sigfig works in the smithy, if he worked on a commissioned sword that someone else's sigfig ordered, as a way to show off the build. Anyone interested? -

Before I Forget, here is my Task 1 entry: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=100076 ...and my Task 2 entry: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100264 -
Thank you all for the kind comments and encouragement! Please do. I tried to model it after ASOIAF Roberts Hammer, as depicted her by Michael Komarck on the cover of the tabletop RPG.

All in all this is a great build. Really liking so many aspects to it. My one piece of advice that I'd give would be on the carriage. With only one set of wheels so far back and such a long yoke (I think that's the right word?) between the cart and the horses it seems like something going to break. I think you need another set of wheels, maybe directly under or very near the driver. Either way this is a great from which I'm going to take inspiration.

Here is (my sigfig) Osric Farwind traveling through Avalonia , on his way to Burnby to attend a great event (possibly a wedding). Accompanying him are Cain Thornsburry who wields a large war hammer, and Jace Stone who prefers to use his bow when possible but is just as dangerous with his daggers. Both are champions of Oros and have been friends with Osric since a very young age. I almost didn't post these pictures. I'm really unsatisfied with the build. After taking the pictures it looks rushed and unfinished. What happened while building is a got frustrated with my piece count as I have too many mocs started at one time, and the majority of my pieces (pieces I really wanted to use in this build) are in another country. In the end I decided to post them anyway because it felt like a waste not to. I guess I will use this as more of an example of what I don't want my builds to look like. Also this was photographed inside because I really didn't want to risk all those trans blue pieces going everywhere outside! C&C is welcome.

Ah, ok. I posed them pretty high up so you can see (most of) their whole body, as this build was more about the figures than the (very quick) build. I've been trying to trade them away for something else because, while they're excellent figs and fairly true to the movie, you can't do much with them outside a LOTR build. Which was why I was glad to come up with a use for them (even if they still look a bit out of place).

Thanks to all for the compliments. This is a good point. I may work on a base and add a little more detail after I finish some current WIPs. I had originally built it the way you described with the exception of 3 stacked light bley round plates in exchange for the cylinders (as seen at the top). However they are currently tied up in another MOC. I've never noticed how much his torso looked like a rib cage! It does look a bit odd now. Thanks for pointing this out! What kind of protection are you thinking? A roof?

There will be a plate there eventually, along with on the grinding stone. I never have enough reddish brown tiles though so it will have to wait until my next bricklink order.

Here are the common soldiers in the land of Oros in an outpost tower overlooking Mitgardia. As the lords of Oros don't keep a family sigil or colors, the soldiers wear only Avalonian colors with plain armour. The captain wears red ribbons in his uniform to signify his rank. This was a pretty simple build. I think I should have made the tower. Little wider as it looks pretty cramped up there with 5 people. I wasn't looking forward to this task as I don't like collecting armies--I like unique figs with unique pieces. However eventually it clicked that those LOTR undead soldiers I've been trying to get rid of are mostly sand green which is one of Avalonias colors! C&C please!

You're more than welcome to use my sigfig if you'd like (he's fairly easy to build), but I get the feeling you're probably looking more for People that have been around longer than I have been. -

I just realized I have not yet posted my Task 5 in here. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99869#entry1994506 Tasks 1 and 2 are coming, just trying to finish some suitable enviroments for them. -
Quote button is still not working. I really don't understand my Computer sometimes...de Gothia, you're more than welcome to use it, please do so! Gideon, I will have to Keep an eye out for a round plate with a hole in a suitable Color. As for the Wood pieces, they will all be replaced by tiles whenever i can order some more (I go through reddish brown tiles way too fast, and most of mine are in another country currently). As for posting other ideas for similar tools, please do! I'd be very eager to see others.

Thank you all for the kind comments! Several have suggested trying the anvils from different Lego sets. Before starting in these I looked there for inspiration. I wanted to create something of my own if possible with these as a possible second option. While I think the bigger one I made is too big and I don't think I'll use it, I may play with the idea of multiple anvils, possibly with the ones mentioned by you guys. Mccoyed, I like your grindstone, and might play with that design a bit. And an index for this would be really nice, as I'm always looking for ideas on little things. I think the pirate section has a furniture building guide with some really amazing designs in it within their pinned index. Thanks again for all the compliments and advice!

As my Smithy waits for parts, I've been trying to build some tools to go with it. I'm not very good at building such things and am really struggling to get the scale right on some of them. Any and all help is appreciated! I'll start with my bellows and forge as I'm most satisfied with them compared to the rest. Since taking these photos I changed the two brown 1x2 plates to tan as I feel this is a more realistic look. While I think the forge serves its purpose I feel like it could still use something else. Next I made a couple anvils. The smaller I planned to use as the shop's sign and the second as the actual anvil. However after making it it seems enormous and I really don't think it's even close to scale. After I decided it was too big I decided to check how the smaller one scaled. While it looks much closer to me it still seems a little small. Anyone have thoughts on this? Last I have a grinding wheel. It seems way too big currently. I this I can probably come up with a little smaller design (this was loosely based from Skyrim) but I'm also not entirely sure if the piece I used as the grinding stone is the best option or not. As I said I appreciate any advice anyone can give me. Thanks!

I have another slightly silly beginner question. What's the norm on posting unfinished things for feedback before continuing? I'm currently waiting on a few more bricks to (hopefully) finish a blacksmith shop so in the meantime I've been trying to build blacksmith tools but this isn't really an area I'm good at and I'm struggling with keeping things in correct proportions I think. -

Thanks for the kind comments. Ah, the green flags. I was hoping no one would notice. That was a brick linking error on my part. They will be replaced sooner or later. -

I actually tried this but couldn't get it to look right. I'll give it another shot though, after looking closely at some more pictures. Thanks! -
Avalonia Task 5: Valley View Hall
MiloNelsiano replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks to all for the kind words and a bigger thanks for the advice. The greenery around the castle is not at all finished. Ideally I'd like some trees and rock work as well as possibly a small stream. However most of these pieces that I have are a few thousand miles away at the moment. The studs on the doors were in fact meant to look like rivets, but I can understand if they look out of place to some. For some reason tiling the top of the wall had not yet occurred to me, but I can definitely see the need for it. It will unfortunately have to wait until my next bricklink order (or longer). -

I don't know why but my Quote button is not working. Leki--I have no problem adjusting the border to allow for this. I really wanted to border Mitgardia for Story purposes, so I can understand your desire for the same. Good to have another neighbor! -
Valley View Hall is the seat of the Farwinds. The Farwinds have been Lords in the surrounding lands since shortly after Olaf Farwind landed on the shore nearby after leaving Mitgardia. The castle sits atop a high hill in the plains of Avalonia overlooking a mountain valley in Mitgardia. This is a pretty basic build for the time being. I plan to (at some point) finish the castle on all sides, and add quite a few more details. Also, please note that building with Legos is my hobby, not taking pictures of them. C&C please!

Here is Osric Farwind, son of Orys, and heir to the land of Oros. The Farwinds are a very humble family. Despite being Highborn Lords, they believe in working alongside the citizens of heir land rather than commanding them. The current Lord, Orys for example, works on the Family's farm. Osric has worked in the castle's blacksmith, smithing weapons and armour. Because of this, many other nobles look down at the Farwinds, calling them the Peasant Lords. The Farwinds' humble nature has also pevented them from keeping a family coat of arms or colors, as they believe them to be vain. More of their history will come in future builds. Their seat at Valley View Hall should be up tonight. C&C please! -

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. After marrying a mac lover, my computer skills have drastically gone down hill. However, I was able to manage in the end. I would like to name the blue highlighted area Oros. My sig fig introduction will hopefully come tomorrow, when I have decent enough lighting to take pictures.
