  1. I'm really glad you liked the photography, because my setup is actually very basic. It's also usually my least favorite step of the process. I usually try to take all my pictures on my balcony which faces to the west, so on a nice rainy or cloudy day it's the perfect lighting (at least it has been, with the chain seasons it hasn't worked quite as nicely as there is a large building that's starting to block the sun more as the sun sets farther to the south). As for a backdrop, I usually just use printer paper underneath, and taped to the wall behind as well. Afterwards I just use GIMP, which if I remember right you reccomended for me! About as simple as it gets, but unfortunately only works if the weather, and apparently also seasons, cooperate. I'm not sure about LugBulk, as I haven't yet been able to participate (hoping to next year however!), but I bought all of my sand green masonry bricks at the pick a brick wall in Lego Land Germany.
  2. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback! Thanks! I definitely tried to cover the gaps, but did the best I could (trying to get that roof just right probably took up almost half of the total build time put into this one). After looking at the pictures a while ago I had an idea that might have worked to cover them, but this build has long been taken apart. I might try it again sometime though! Thank you. I was certainly trying to show every step, though to be fair I did leave out the process of separating and cleaning the grain (I had planned to put that process where the well was built, but it just didn't look right, as the process required very specific looking baskets). Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
  3. I think the ruins look just fine. Fallen over bricks just like you'd expect to find. Looking forward to the next chapter!
  4. Great build with lots of fun details! Those snowy pods and that wagon look great. However I'm not a big fan of the beard as snow, it just doesn't quite look natural to me.
  5. Great stonework, and a nice little monument there. Good to see you building here again!
  6. I'm not entirely sure, but Kaliphlin's titles have an explanation on their first page: I don't think ours is quite the same, as all of the residing lords of Avalonia have been here longer than a year, but I don't think any have been overly active in Book II. I'm guessing participation in Avalonia's tasks is involved, but I haven't read an explanation that I can remember.
  7. Welcome, Deez. Always nice to see new members. I'm looking forward to seeing some builds and learning a little more about the Master of the Flame! Hinckley, I'm looking forward to seeing your first two challenge entries. Another chapter for Osric is up!
  8. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Osric arrived at a small farmhouse in a high mountain valley. The valley was a flat area full of melting snow and dead grass. The house had a stone fence in front with an open gate. As he approached, he started to feel uneasy. As he walked through the gate he saw the farmer and his wife laying dead on the yard, only skeletal remains laying inside untouched clothes. The couple looked to have been in the middle of their daily chores when they were killed—the man had been chopping wood, while his wife had just finished milking their cow. The cow itself laid in front of her, also just a skeleton. Osric knew he was in the right place, as the only way the people could have died and turned to skeletons before their clothes began to wear away with time was through very powerful magic. Osric fought to suppress a rage he felt coming as he saw the scene—a peaceful family trying to survive slaughtered by the hand of a criminal sorcerer looking for a place to hide. Osric called out to the house, “I have come for you, Daemeon. You have attacked people whom I serve, and others, and now you shall pay for your crimes.” Osric had done the best that he could to keep the rage out of his voice, but it was still easily detectable. A few seconds later, the door opened slowly and a man wearing a basilisk skull over his head walked out of the house and shut the door behind him. The man wielded a massive warhammer that looked to be too heavy for the man to swing. He studied Osric a moment before speaking. “So, the Lord of Oros has sent his whelp to do his bidding. I expected you to be lost or dead somewhere in Nocturnus on your petty quest. I judge you’ve found some answers if you’re bold enough to call me by name. However, it doesn’t make a bit of difference. I now have the ancient Book of Knowledge, and with it, the secrets of recreating the ancient magics of the Druids. With enough time I’ll be able to reforge the Elemental Helm and finish what that fool Revolword failed to do. Historica will be mine!” Osric drew his sword and approached the sorcerer. “After today, Historica shall be free of your tyranny and destruction.” Daemeon then swung his warhammer at Osric so fast Osric barely had time to dodge it. Daemeon continued a flurry of attacks with such speed as though the massive weapon he held were only a broom handle. In the middle of a down-stroke, Osric caught a glimpse of a rune on the head of the hammer that looked identical to the one than had been on the chain of the enchanted forest giant so long ago. He hoped that if he could swing his sword into the rune, the dispelling potion he received from Gregor would be able to destroy or at least weaken the weapon. Osric continued to dance out of the way of the massive hammer until it slammed into the ground in front of him and he saw an opportunity to strike. Osric brought his sword down onto the head of the hammer as quickly as he could just as Daemeon was raising it for another strike. The blade met the rune, and the entire head of the hammer fell away from the handle in a fizzing smoke. Daemeon looked surprised for half a second before raising his off-hand, lifting and throwing Osric across the yard with an unseen force. As Osric landed on the hard ground near the open gate of the fence, he heard Daemeon performing a chant. Osric got to his knees and threw his shield up as quickly as he could as he heard Daemeon finish his chant with a shout. The last thing Osric saw above his shield before he had brought it up in front of his face was a ghostly figure flying towards him with a large scythe. The figure flew into the shield that Osric had found in the Drow tunnels, and the shield and figure alike turned into dust before Osric’s eyes. Feeling exposed without having a shield, Osric lunged toward his foe. As he drew near he could see that the spell had drained the sorcerer, as though he had thrown all his remaining energy into summoning the figure that flew at him. As Osric thrust his sword into the man’s neck, his thoughts went to the farmer and his wife, and how they were probably killed by the same spell that would have taken his life had he not found the magic shield. He continued to think of them as he watched the man’s life fade away. Though it wouldn’t be enough for the farmer and his wife, Daemeon was dead, and their justice delivered. Once the fight was finished, Osric entered the house. Within, he found a book in the midst of hundreds of pieces of parchment with hand scribbled notes. He took the book and a shovel he found near the door before returning outside. He dug graves for the farmer and his wife next to the house and covered the graves with stones from their fence. He left Daemeon where he fell, to be found by the wolves that hunted and scavenged across Mitgardia. He took the book and left, wondering if he should destroy the book before or after he returned to his father. Well this didn't turn out quite as well as I had hoped, but I'm definitely pleased with certain parts of it. This is the first build I did for this story that I photographed without natural lighting, and I'm not sure I like how it turned out. If I get a decent chance I'll try again with natural lighting, but it's getting a lot harder with the changing seasons. Anyway, I was a little worried someone might not like that I'm creating a super powerful artifact, but I'm thinking that since it will be destroyed, and ultimately won't change any lore at all, it will be OK. Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed the story. Comments and Criticism are more than welcome!
  9. First of all, the image uploader is not for members to use. Ten posts will not give you that ability, but it will open the ability to send pms. Rather than using the image uploader you should upload them to an image hosting website such as Flickr, and from there deep link them onto eurobricks. There are plenty of posts in the Help section of Eurobricks that explain this and how it is done. You might also be misunderstanding the word post. You do not need to post ten of your own topics, you can post in other topics as well. Hopefully that helps!
  10. Awesome looking wolf! I really like the style of this build, and I'm really looking forward to reading more journal entries!
  11. Very nice build. I was quite excited to see you join avalonia after you had finished your modular castle, and then a little disappointed when you disappeared after that, but it's great to see you back. Both builds look great, and I really like all the little details everywhere, but I'd like to see an overall shot of the second. Your wife's storytelling is also great! Looking forward to more!
  12. Great build. I see so many Inspiring details that make me want to try. I think when I'm finished with my current story I'm going to try this style of house again. More of this stuff please!
  13. Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm glad you liked the flail design, feel free to use it. I actually used it earlier in my CMF series. And I'm glad some of you are enjoying the story. Hopefully I'll get the next chapter figured out soon, but since it's the climax of the story, I might take a little longer on it.
  14. Very lovely scene here, with lots of action and fun details to go around. A little more story would be nice though!
  15. Very neat little build. I also had this explorian set way back as a kid. the snow looks great here.
  16. Well since you're asking, mine is pretty simple to be honest, gimli's head, your figures hair, reddish brown cape, dark bley legs and plain armor. You can probably figure it out fairly easy by looking at my sig.
  17. . I'm glad you enjoy them! I might disappoint you a little there however, as this story only has two chapters left--the climax being the next chapter (which means it might take a bit longer to complete) and then a wrap-up chapter. I definitely did enjoy writing the story though, so there's a good chance I'll do another soon!
  18. If you're into the castle theme, be sure to check out the Guilds of Historica subforum, and join a side! It's great fun for everyone!
  19. I can understand that feeling, and thinking your builds are "unworthy" as I felt it before joining as well. But honestly, that exactly why people should join. The focus of GoHis not about producing superior MOCs. Not at all. The focus, and reason why (as I understand it) GoH was started was for people to improve their building abilities. Later today when I'm on my desktop I can share some of my first MOCs to compare with my more recent ones. Not only the builds have drastically improved, but also my photography (though neither is perfect yet). So many people here are really willing to help you to improve, which is why I love GoH so much--not because of the amazing MOCs (they're nice too), but because of the great community. You have to start somewhere, and it doesn't matter how nice your MOC is. You will receive feedback, and if you take the feedback into consideration in your next MOC, you will improve, and figure out something else you can do better. It can be a long process, but I've found it to be worthwhile. Give it a shot!
  20. You weren't pushy. I was only joking. I had just finished the photo editing and taking a break before writing the story when I read your post. I'm actually really glad you enjoy the story. There's sometimes when inpost a chapter and I wonder if anyone actually reads it, so it's really good to know someone does!
  21. Just for you, Windusky. Chapter 15
  22. Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 The report that Osric had received led him deep into the Mountains of Mitgardia. He was eventually forced to leave his horse behind as he continued through several steep and narrow stretches through Odin’s Pass. As he began to get closer to where Cain and Jace claimed the sorcerer was hiding out, he saw a towering figure in black armor standing on a bridge with an enormous flail and shield. The man spoke in a raspy voice, “No one is to cross. Turn around the way you came.” “I seek the sorcerer and enchanter Daemeon. He has led attacks on the land I serve and I’ve come to bring him to justice,” Osric answered. The man laughed, and replied, “You’re welcome to try to bring him to justice, but you’ll have to bring me in first!” With that the man began to swing the flail around his head. Osric trusted his skills in battle, but the man looked to be impenetrable. The massive man was swinging the large flail with such force that he had no chance of blocking a blow, as it would send him falling to his death over the narrow bridge. The man’s armor was too heavy, and his shield too large to have a chance at penetrating, should he get past the flail. Maybe, he thought, if I can get him off balance I can get him to fall over the bridge. As he approached the man he studied the flail and paid attention to the timing of his swing. When he got just close enough, he waited for the flail to go by before he lunged forward. The man tried to bring the flail down on him with all his might, shattering the bridge timbers below. Osric got by just in time to throw his shoulder into the man’s stomach. The blow, combined with his swing shifted his weight awkwardly, and the man stumbled backwards a step. Osric swung left and then right for the man’s helm. While the blows did not penetrate the armor, the disoriented the man, and his next step backwards was slightly sideways, and the man’s leg was against the low rail on the bridge. Osric kicked the man in the stomach with all his strength, with caused the man to stumble once again. However, when he tried to take a step backwards to regain his balance, his foot struck the solid rail, and he tipped over the rail backwards. Osric watched him fall until he passed through a thick fog that hung over the mountains, and a few seconds later he heard a loud clang as the man struck the rock below. Osric stopped a few minutes on the bridge to meditate before continuing. He expected the massive man to be Daemeon’s last defense, and that he would find the sorcerer very soon. Osric pulled the dispelling potion that he received form Gregor from his pack and applied it to his blade. He remembered all he had gone through to get to his point, and felt the feeling once again that he was being guided. He stood once again and continued across the bridge with a confidence he had never felt before. He somehow knew he could not fail at his task. Everytime I try to do a Mitgardia build, I seriously overestimate my supply of white pieces. I would have preferred more snow in this build, but ran out of appropriate pieces. I hope you enjoy it anyway. Thanks for looking!
  23. Amazing, one-of-a-kind landscape. I hope we'll see more of this kind of landscape during the Nocturnus Challenge!
  24. Thanks for the tip Rick, I will be trying it out soon!
  25. Nice little build here. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the story.
