Heroica RPG - Quest #58: Brothers-in-Arms
Chromeknight replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Nerwen nodded at Guts' words. The meditation had stilled the bloodlust for the moment, but Reno's diabolical laughter set her teeth on edge. My lady, take this. And Master Boneparte, the raider is right, I'm sure you can think of a way to stop your brother's mad laughter. Nerwen hands Hestia the mourning star Nemo uses rum on Reno Hestia takes the mourning star from Nerwen Hestia attacks Reno, front row, mourning star Battle order > Guts uses Smelling salts on Hestia Guts Pizarro; Lifestealer Eric suggested - Pizarro; Godricsleif Eric suggested - Columbus; Godricsleif Nemo uses rum on Reno > Nerwen gives mourning star to Hestia > Hestia takes mourning star from Nerwen Hestia Reno; mourning star -
if he tries to attack Nerwen he'll get a scroll of sleep upside the head.

The blood pounded n Nerwen's ears. Reno might have a point about the way things were going in the world, but his methods might have ruined any chance for his vision to come to pass. Now, confrontation was inevitable. And there was a part of her that exulted in the coming combat. Eric, I know you do not want to strike Reno, take care of those guards with Guts please. Master Boneparte, Lady Falconer, We will pass you better weapons at an opportune time. For now, I will join you in ending Reno's deception. Nerwen strikes Reno from the back row using her Magical staff Nemo attacks Reno from the front row using the Ship in a Bottle Hestia attacks Reno from the back row using the Quill pen Battle Order Guts Columbus; Lifestealer Guts Pizarro; Lifestealer Eric suggested - Columbus; Godricsleif (front) Eric suggested - Pizarro; Godricsleif (front) Nemo Reno; Ship in a Bottle > Nerwen Reno; Magical Staff > Hestia Reno; Quill Pen -
Nerwen didn't like how I did her face the first time, so I had to do it all over again because I saved the image but not the file. I still think she looks wierd with a nose. To get the face right, I used a pre-gen'd face, added the features over it, using it as a placement guide, then deleted the pre-gen'd face from underneath

closer to 12 than 10. Sorry! Politics and honour. Consider Master Boneparte, that your brother attempted to exile you rather than simply have those Weregators slip a blade between your ribs while chained. There may come a time soon when you are faced with the same choice. Do not be less of a man than he was and take his life. Love between brothers is not a weakness. But whatever is between you needs to be sorted by you, face to face, not by guards and hired hands. For all I know, you are the Boneparte Hestia sent us to find, and I said after releasing you that you would have our help. Our help you shall have. Nerwen slips of her white cloak and clicks one end of the shackles of war around her wrist ready to snare anyone attempting to flee. Eric, I know you have a preference for the other brother, but the men themselves are almost interchangable, it is their policies that are important. However, this fight will not settle that, it will only settle which man it is we need deal with, the one we have freed from the hold of a Chiman junk on his way to exile or the one whose office we burst into and whose schemes we upset. This man is a husband and a father. I cannot in good conscience take him from them. Can you? If you stand with us, I promise you will have your opportunity to speak to his politics when the fight is done., She rattles the shackles, These will see to that. Do I have your arm beside mine? She then follows the raiders' example and drinks the mead in her satchel. Addressing the Boneparte again, I might not like all you do with your power, but as you say, that is a discussion for after. Believe me though, when I say, that when this is done, you will listen to me. So, Master Boneparte, do you need a weapon or are you ready? yes, Nerwen's speech is shading from orange to red. Yes it's deliberate. -
IIRC, Tokyo is 2 hours behind Sydney, so, yes, not so great a difference. And I post from a iPad, the keyboard is on screen, so smashing it is a really bad idea!

Blocking the Boneparte's path with her body and staff, the tip glowing a dull blue, she spoke in a low, firm voice. Master Boneparte. Stop and consider. Power is never an end in itself. It is always the means to an end. You know your brother. What is it he wants with the power of the Bonepartes? Nerwen nodded in response to each of the raiders replies. Addressing Nemo she continued My friend the Nord here wants change. The other sees reprisal if you resume the Admiral's chair. What is it you want with the power of the Bonepartes? I will next be on in about 10 hours. Scuba and Khorne both usually post in that window. Sandy often posts toward the very end of that frame, but sometimes before that. I am sure that Nerwen will have things to respond to as she speaks her decision. -
So. Nemo or Reno?

Nerwen looked around. There was nothing to hit. The fiery rage that had been smoldering inside since she first took up the mantle of shaman had not abated. Her companions had slaughtered the pirates before she could strike them down, and now the weregators were dead, also before she could vent her anger. Once again a party of heroes stood before someone arrogantly demanding a course her more prudent thoughts labeled unwise. But it was a course that promised much in the way of satisfactorily hitting things. You know, your return will likely spark a small war. But I do not care which of them you are. As long as you promise that we will get the rewards promised by Hestia when she hired us, you have our blades. Turning to the bald raider Nerwen said. A boat? What will you do with a boat? Will you go hunting for that monster we released to topple the dark tower? Can you even sail this thing? Looking to see if Eric was ready also, she spoke to the Boneparte. Given that it was Hestia that sent us, I believe that she has a sense of what is up. We will go, but I strongly suggest we speak to her before confronting the other Boneparte. -

I take it, Scuba, since you expressed no preferences regarding loot that you don't mind much. I am tempted to give you the handbag... Taking the cloth from Guts Nerwen clears her sight, then inspects the fallen. Some of the items had a sense of power about them. Without qualm, she gathered them and considered who should be given which. Weregators wearing crocodile skin accessories. Ugh. It would be like you boys wearing monkey skins. But that bag is nice. I will take that. Since Eric already has armour, Guts you can have that, and that leaves the belt for Eric. Unless you think otherwise For-Edan*. Nerwen hears Guts' questions, they made sense. The man before them could be either brother. I understand there is politics at work within the Bonepartes. Factions and groupings vying for the ear of the Admiral. I do hope you accept that we wish to be certain what the best course of action is regarding you and your brother. *For-Edan -- North-Man in Elvish -

Nerwen grimaced as the weregator bit down. She tried to recall the weak points of such beasts. Groin? Shins? Solar-plexus? Eyes. That would do. The grimace turning to a grin, she swings again. Nerwen, front row, mourning star, Cayman You are in trouble now Dundee. He is dancing. Nerwen sees the crocs leap and rolls clear to a place where she can stand. Looking at the blue gem imbedded in the top of her staff she realises that her opponents would be able to shrug off any hits from it. Making a rueful face, she draws the mourning star, the mace she took from the undead knight in the dark temple under heroica. They would not like it's bite anymore than she liked theirs. This time, leave some for me boys! Sizing up the scarfaced weregator she swung. If you are powerful enough to upset someone then presumably you can also use that power to make money. And make enough money to buy off anyone who has been sent to do you harm. In any case, whatever deal we strike with El Capitán, I am sure this man here will gladly pay. -

To Guts she said, If a man can not make a counter offer on his person, he is not worth the price put on him. -

Nerwen laughed. Out loud. Ten thousand? Be serious! A gold coin a day is a good wage. A thousand will have you living in comfort for a year. Ten thousand would buy not only your cargo but your whole ship also. Not even one of the heads of the families would be worth that much. No. A single thousand would be a more reasonable price. Do consider it. My boys here are getting restless. Hearing the figure shout behind his gag, Nerwen nods. Oh, but where are my manners? Discussing the man like he is so much merchandise. I am sure he would have something to say about his own value. Let us hear from him. Ignoring the weregator's warning from before, knowing she was backed by two armed and edgy raiders, Nerwen pulled the gag off the prisoner. -
Ragnarok, fairy tale and witchbreed. Nope. I'm more of a doggy person myself.

Question for QMs. Where do you get your names from? Names of villains, names of NPCs, names of places (not already mentioned)?

Speaking quietly to her companions Nerwen said, I assume that is Reno Boneparte. He looks like the man we saved in the hovels. Nerwen looks around to the figure. Are you Reno? Would you like our help? She waits for the bound man to nod or shake his head. Speaking to the weregator Captain, Capitán Dundee, you might view us as stowaways or trespassers. But you would permit your ship to be visited by agents of the local authorities? Think of us as inspectors. As you know in business, there are always competing parties. Tell us the deal you made with this man's brother and we may make you a better offer. I wrote a whole post, then took a better look at the bound figure and Dundee's words and had to rewrite! -

Business Capitán. You understand. We have been sent to find Reno Boneparte. My friend here will release this bound man whilst your friend with the scar there goes and checks on your pets who were swimming around. I am afraid we had to... take steps there. Then we will see if we can do business. -

Though Nerwen knows several languages, she is unfamiliar with the weregator's speech. She can pick out three voices, however. Undoubtedly the three that were in the bar. Although unsure of how big a crew a ship like this would need, she thought it unlikely there would be too many others on board. Not wanting to risk confrontation until necessary, Nerwen signaled with her hand that they should go check out the cargo hold. I know it's a little rude just making a call like that, but I figure if either of you have something you want to say, you'll say it anyway, and we can keep rolling. -

Perhaps there is some way to use the fishing rod to throw a line across? But if you think you can make the jump cam'wethrin, you should try. Hmm, I wonder if I could make them sleep using this scroll? Nerwen uses the scroll of sleep on the crocodiles if she can.
